Question: If a Mission does not list the type of trigger a grenade has, what is the default to be used? Timed, Wireless or Motion?
-
Assume traditional (Timed)
-
Although I think most grenades do all by default now.

Thanks. :)
Lessee... It says They may come [...], [...] or [...]. So not entirely sure but "or" seems to imply you pick the type, just like you pick cased/caseless when you get a gun.

I'd chalk that up to bad editing. Turning off the wireless on your microgrenades should give you options outside of paperweight.

I assumed you configure them for what you want. Maybe so simple it requires no / a free action and no roll. Maybe requires some sort of simple armourer roll and a simple action.
-
But Kincaid, microgrenades would still come in all three flavours. So if you pick the type when buying, you simply can decide which type to use. Wireless grenades come with the benefit of being explodable whenever you want, either immediately or later, but come with the downside of being jammable. Motion is somewhat dodgeable but still hits close when it's a hand-thrown one and so still kills with ease, timed is less risky but also easier to avoid.

It just seems out of step with how the rest of wireless stuff works. You turn off your Predator's wireless, you lose some functionality but you can still fire a bullet. Turning off your microgrenades wireless should still leave you with something that explodes, albeit in a slightly different manner. I've treated grenades as having (effectively) firing modes. My guy isn't a grenade user for various reasons, so I have no dog in the fight--I just hate bricking a guy's gear just because the entire run takes place with -3 noise. (I'll draw a distinction between home games, where I expect players to make smart gear choices and SRM, where it's a nice bonus is players make smart gear choices).

Couldn't you still make the grenade explode through a wire so that you have DNI? And besides, if a player simply gets different grenades they won't face this problem. And when you go for a wireless grenade, you do so because you want it to be the most dangerous one, having the biggest downside seems rather fair to me. The bigger the benefit, the bigger the risk. And it's not as if a grenade launcher is supposed to be a primary weapon, they still got plenty of other toys they can use.

You want to be connected to the grenade with a wired direct neural interface when it explodes!? :o
Aren't datacables 1 metre as standard? What's the blast radius on a frag? ;)
-
Cyberdecks and datajacks come with a 1m-retractable cable, but you can buy normal cables for 5 nuyen per meter. So a 20m-cable costs 100 nuyen.

I was hoping you hadn't read that bit so my facetious reply could sail in unopposed.
-
It's hard to find. :P It's not even in the gear list.
-
free data cables!!

May be important in Chicago.
Noise.
