Just got done catching up on Critical Glitch and one of the things that really got my attention from the Origins 'live'-casts was info about the LARP that was run on Saturday. (Pre-posting edit: Found it listed as 'All That Remains' in the event listings... sold out, naturally).
From the Critical Glitch casts, it seems that no one was turned away from the LARP at Origins (or from any other SR event), so will this be the intention/hope at GenCon as well?
-
Yes, there'll be the LARP at GenCon, and we won't turn anyone away who wants to play unless there are truly absurd numbers of people (and possibly not even then).
-
So if that prediction turns out wrong, will you do a little song and dance too? =)

How could I possibly one-up Street Samurai?

How could you possibly NOT?

A one-man performance of the entirety of Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime? :)

I've listened to that album enough that I could almost do that. :)

One other question for the Live crew: Do players need to have their own 'teams' or are there provisions to put solo gamers together into groups or for solo runners?
-
The latter. If you show up solo, you'll be matched up with other people.
-
Sweet. Time to take advantage of my being too lazy to actually take my huge box of old clothes to the Goodwill and start putting a costume together. ^_^
-
Heh i wish we had participated in this at origins. It sounded like a hoot afterwards.

This is actually my recommendation, even if you come with a bunch of people you know. Getting matched up with new people is a big part of the fun of playing at a giant convention. Combine it with getting to enlist the aid of strangers (who rapidly become your new friends to grief your old friends and it's good clean fun for the whole family.
I've been matched up with folks I met along the way every year and been glad that I did every time.
-
The event is set up to allow for variable team sizes. It's up to you.
-
So would it be feasible (not just possible but feasible) to attempt to solo one of these events? Not that I'd likely try it on this, my first go at LARP, but it would be a fun challenge to put together a character with a chance at it.
-
I'll be going as my bathrobe-wearing technomancer.
-
It's doable to solo, but the majority of the encounters are set up for team endeavors. If you get caught in a combat, it may very well be the end of you if you are on your own. (as your character can die in the larp.)

That depends on the particular LARP. For kicks, I tried solo'ing some of the Season 3 and 4 Missions with a pretty badass/min-maxed Technomancer, and actually did better than I thought I would/could/should. Just depends on the character and the exact scenario, y'know?
-
Soloing is certainly allowed, but bear in mind that PVP IS legal in the Shadowrun Live events!
If you have no backup, don't be surprised when another team decides to geek you on principle!
-
Some folks might take that as a challenge...

I know some people may be thinking wow I am going to this larp by myself I will not know anyone. This is a prime time and larps are a great game mechanic to get to know other players. A larp by design is a very social system it is as much player driven as it is GM designed. We set the main arches and leave the in between to the players imagination. That said all of the encounters are designed with teams in mind and though I have no doubt there are vet season 4 characters that could solo a dragon, being this is only second con for SR5 I don’t see that power level out there. The odds are greatly in the favor going alone will result in you spending the entire time being bored and having a miserable experience or stumbling in a hornets’ nest and losing an edge or worse.
Make friends be social your at a gathering of your peers.

Oh, I have every intention of going it with a team. I also have every intention of being nervous, terrified, stuttery and quite possibly struck mute with anxiety.
I also have every intention of having a blast with whatever team I find myself with.

I solo'd the LARP and it was fun! :)
