Title: [Recruitment] First-Time GM Seeks Runners

So, I plan on running SR4A in meatspace soon, but I wanted a bit of practice before I do.

So, I was thinking of running something similar to jonathanc's Limited Engagement - no expectation to continue on past finishing this run, but should we all click, then we can see how things go.

I'd rather K.I.S.S. but if you wish to use anything outside of Core Books, jut let me know what book it comes from (if possible, with a page reference), and I'll yay or nay it.

As space seem to get snapped up like gold-dust on here, I'll simply ask for a brief character summation now, then a character sheet as soon as you are able:

Your a first time GM, and I am a first time runner for 4e.

I am waiting on my book for now, but I woud like to get in a game. I used to do PBP things all the time when I had an office job, but now that I am back in school I find I have some time left over. I have been playing table top's for about 10-12 years now so I am not green by any means, I just haven't played much Shadowrun.

The reason I am also doing this now, is because a few friends of mine elected me to be the GM, so I wanted to practice a bit from a character standpoint. So if they have any questions or things I can relate a bit.

TL:DR - Exspecting my book in about 2-3 days, if you want me you got me. I'll probably play more of a Combat oriented role, maybe more infultrator then anything.

I'm similar to Parttime as well.

Books come in this week, played 2nd and 3rd ED a lot. I've got some PBP RP under my belt, but none of it actually using dice, so that would be new.

I do have a live online game coming up soon, and wouldn't mind getting in some board RP early, and would help pass the time when it gets slow at work.

I generally do face/sniper classes, but been wanting to try out a face/mage that I had set up. I think she's all core rules too although I may see if I can't get a few non-core gear in (with your thumbs up) because it would fit her better.

I.am a first time runner as well, and am also about to start my first meat world game (you don't live in Maine by chance do you?) This would be perfect to get in the swing of things.

Metatype:Ork
Archetype: combat focused adept
Personality: If it doesn't work, shake it or hit it. If they won't cooperate, shake them or hit them. He's very straightforward, sometimes too much so. He isn't quick to trust, but once a friend he's a fiercely loyal one. He views his magical augmenation as a gift from his ancestors
Gear/style: keeping with his no nonsense view of the world, he is nearly always in combat gear. His two prized possessions are a family sword and his pistol from before he was a runner.
Background: Jak Urbog was born in the slums of Portland, Maine. When he was just 10 his parents were killed by gang members and he was kidnapped and brought to be bred at the underground arenas. For 15 years he fought in the arenas, but eventually pit fighting bored him and he wanted new adventure. He killed his way out of the arena when the guards resisted and disappeared into the world of shadowrunning.

I've played more than a few times, and I'm not precisely a 'noob' but I'm no expert either.

That said;

Metatype: Troll(Minotaur. I can nix this if you want SR4 core only.)
Archetype: Street samurai.
Personality: Loud, boisterous, and Russian. The good doctor has a tendency towards the bombastic actions atypical a minotaur. He harbors a level of resentment for the average sprawl ganger, and prefers professional criminals. He likes to maintain an air of civility and upper-class restraint, despite the loud nature of his metatype.
Gear/Style: Heavy augmentations and first aid/medicine support, all attached to that lovely durability that being a troll provides.
Background: Vallens Sextilius was born in Moscow, Russia. Born with a legitimate SIN, he was groomed to be a doctor in the employ of Evo. After finishing his degree, however, a contraction loophole led to him losing his position in Evo and being forced out of Russia due to medical black-listing. Seeking an employment opportunity in the Americas, he relocated to Seattle and spent some time as a first-responder for DocWagon. Here he recieved his first notable cybernetics, and swiftly became addicted to the surge of power they brought. It did not take long for his DocWagon coworkers to notice the outlandish new chrome and biotech he was sporting. After 'resigning' from there, he now works as a trauma surgeon in a Seattle clinic- working as both a Shadowrunner and a street doc to feed his augmentation addiction.

Sounds like fun!

I'm somewhat experienced with the game, and would also like an opportunity for some board play alongside a live game (hi, Reiper). I get the impression that a lot of people are confused/exasperated by the Matrix rules, but I'm pretty familiar with them, so I'd be more than happy to be the team's hacker. I'll try to have a character concept up in a few minutes.

I have never played Shadowrun in meatspace or in a Play-by-Post but I'm prepping for DMing a game myself so I like to think I have some familiarity with the rules.

I don't have a K.I.S.S. charter ready to go but I should be able to build something tomorrow if I can join.
I would prefer to play a Street Samurai but seeing as the party already has two combat specialist a third one might be excessive.
*Forgot to say that it's 3 at night where I live so that's why I can't make a character right away.*

Yeah, for sure. I've also played a game where the hacker acts as a kind of sub-GM and figures out whatever rolls are necessary to work through whatever the real GM wants to have happen - if we're using the forum diceroller, you can be sure they're not fudging the numbers :3 So that's another option. It's your game, though, so whatever you think is best!

Sure, that sound good. Make sure that each of you have a contact in common - a Fixer by the name of Jack. You can pick how many point you spend on her.

If the game isn't full already, I'd be interested in joining. Are you only allowing one of each archetype though? Because I'd be interested in playing a magician also.

I'd prefer one of each archetype. The overlap from the Sam and the Adept is fine, but two Magicians (even of different Traditions) might feel too samey in such a short game.

Here is my first draft of my character.

I tried to keep with the corebook for the most part, but I went over a littlebit in a few other sourcebooks, but tried to keep it under control. All of my spells are sourcebook only, her Tres Chis clothing isn't in the corebook, but it suits her style and doesn't have any modifiers so figured there wouldn't be a major issue with that one.

Gonna go ahead and list some of my non-core book stuff real fast, and then posting the character in spoiler tags below. I am very easy going on character adjustments, so if you notice I'm missing something major, if you think a power is too strong, or if you don't want me using a specific non-core item (or any at all) let me know and I can make the changes.

Weapons
Ceska Black Scorpion (core)
-Red dot system is GH but acts the same as a laser site +1 dice I can change it back to laser site if you prefer
-Sling its fairly self explainatory, its 1 point of RC (although not sure if it should stack with the stock though, if not keeping it on just to keep the weapon shouldered, will just mark it as uninstalled so it doesn't give the bonus),
-Folding Stock (powered), non-core, just replaced the stock stock with a folding one. I think it gives -1 conceal when its folded down.

Colt Manhunter (core)
-Again the red dot
-Low-light flashlight, non core but added it,

Fichette Security 600 (core, but I did a lot of modifications on this one)
-Red dot
-Ceramic Compounds 1 (non-core, made to help bypass security systems, I think it reduces security systems dice by 1 when looking for it)
-Electronic firing
-Concealable holster
-Hi-C Plastic rounds - to go along with the ceramic items to reduce the chances of getting caught.

The last gun is a light pistol, does crap for damage, but its designed to potentially be smuggled into security areas more easily, manhunter is a gun to use when trying to not gain too much attention (hence the silencer), and the Scorpion is my on (*$# gun.

Gear:
Backpack (non-core but no idea why it would be problematic)

The character is basically a Face/Mage.
I do have 12k left in character creation money left, so worst case scenario if I don't spend it I may add in a 1/1 contact.

I haven't worked on her background yet, but she's going to be a former Ancient gang member, left on good terms. But didn't want to dive too deep into her background until I got the thumbs up on the character.
Oh and if someone notices something blaringly obvious that I missed, let me know. Haven't played SR in about five years, and that was 3rd ed, and I was GMing then, so I havent played a character since '01.

Works for me, she's specialized into con/seduction, and manipulation/illusions with magic.

Hey guys - a quick little update on my behalf. Guess what I got in the mail today!? MY very own Shadowrun 4E Book!

So I am glancing at it now, some history has changed the the "essence" is still there. I shouldn't have a problem at least whipping up a character no problem. I said before that I wanted to be a bit of a infultrator type, I guess thats more Street Sam. But looks like theres been a rising intrest in this game. So my two questions are this:

1) Am I playing in this first set of character running? Or because I didn't know definites before am I out for now. (Fine either way, I understand.)

2) If I am one of the first then what is my position. I really don't mind. I could also be a Rigger because I don't think anyone said that. I would just have to build one, and I never had done that position before so that might be fun.

All and all its up to WTF, so just shoot me a heads up.

2 Will you use the "Maximum Armor Modifications" rules from Arsenal p.44?

I might go crazy and give him wired reflexes, i dunno. And of course, I'll give him grenades. Let it never be said that the SURGE elf street sammy forgot the wonders of Chunky Salsa and Flashbangs.

1. Yes. It's a pretty good rule, but note that also means high-strength NPCs have the same advantage.
2. Also yes, to prevent you from buying a totally indestructible suit. Unless I state otherwise, or you have a decent reason for there being so much in one piece, etc.

== Background ==
Bruiser is a straightforward Ork, sometimes too straightforward. Although he doesn't often lie, he does know the value of saying nothing. Bruiser grew up in the slums of Portland, Maine, and when he was 12 his parents were murdered by a local gang and he was sold into slavery to be bred as an underworld pit fighter. During his three year training, he noticed that most of the fights involved two people beating on each other mostly using melee weapons, so he studied Krav Maga and learned to disarm his opponents with greater ease. after his training he entered the ring at just 15. He fought for five years with great success and became to be known as Bruiser for using his fists almost exclusively in melee bouts. Despite his success, being a slave meant he saw little of the purses as they were instead handed to his "owner". Eventually he grew tired of being a wind-up toy for some rich stiff, and decided to leave. When the guards resisted his attempts, he simply killed them without remorse and disappeared for a short while. He eventually showed up in Portland again and found every member responsible for his imprisonment and killed them too. After he was done, he went back to his family's old apartment and found the family heirloom that had been locked away and abandoned after his family was torn apart. After that he didn't have anywhere else to be so he disappeared into the world of shadow running. His specialty is enforcement, guard duty, and general wetwork that doesn't involve stealth.[/spoiler]

This quality allows a character to possess an Edge attribute one point higher than his metatype max. (This doesn't actually increase Edge, just increases the cap)

Bad Luck -20BP
Whenever the character uses Edge roll 1D6. On a result of 1, the Edge is spent but has the opposite effect. Ex: Gain additional dice instead subtracts from the dice pool. Attempting to go first causes you to go last, etc

Mainly got rid of the machine pistol, with only six dice she was never hitting anything with it anyways, moved her stats around just a tad bit. Gave her a P offensive spell, and modded her armor a little bit.
And added fake SINs and Licenses.

Feel free to give me some critiques, haven't done a caster in a long time.

Well I'm not an Expert when it comes to Shadowrun do I do have four things to say.

1 Why don't you have a Silencer of some sort on your Fichetti Security 600? It looks like a infiltration-gun to me and pooping of loud shots is kind of counterproductive when you try to be sneaky. Also Why do you have a Powered Folding Stock on the Fichetti? It's a SA weapon so you only need a RC of 1.

2 I'd buy helmet to wear along with your Synergist Short Jacket to use if you know you are going into a combat situation and looks don't mater.

3 I prefer to have two comlinks one for runs and one linked to my fake SIN. It would suck to get traced via the comlink you used on a run while you are looking for a club on it right?

4 If you are using BP to build you character it's generally smarter to wait until you start playing to pick up specializations. They only cost 2 karma so they are a good way to quickly improve when you star playing. However this is a P-B-P of undetermined duration so that general recommendation might not hold true for this character.

1.  I'll double check the Fichette, Not sure how I put the folding stock on it, may have hit ok instead of cancel, will fix that tonight. I'll add the silencer tonight too.

3. I've been making too many character's lately, she was supposed to have 3 links, (2 usables and a dispostable). Will fix that tonight too.
4. Yeah the main reason I put in so many specialities is the undetermined duration. Normally, I'd avoid using it unless its intrigal to the character's background or specialty (ie a sniper)

Name is Steel-Storm (A bit cheesy I know) and I would say he's focused on dealing ranged damage be he has some infiltration and wilderness skills.

I haven't come up with much of a back-story beyond him leaving the Scandinavian Union after he was involved in some bad shit in the Haparanda Anomaly Zone. I'm obviously be willing to change things to fit into what ever you are planing wtf.

Redid my caster, same concept

Added her background, got rid of her extra weapons. She only thing non SR core is her form fitting body armor, and her tres chic clothing. She's still not a combat magic powerhouse, but can do some major support.

Her warhawk is kept in its holster at the small of her back, under her jacket.

== Background ==
Leah was born into a political family in Denver. Even though her powers began to manifest at an early age, they kept them quiet so that it did not hurt the family's public image. She watched as both her mother and father manipulated people to pass bills. When she was 14, a rival politician had her family assassinated. One of her families bodyguards, Jeremy, was able to get her out of the house during the attack, and smuggled her out of Denver, settling in Seattle. He helped raise her with his girlfriend, a Seattle stripper named Jazze Belle, She spent many days in the back rooms of the clubs while Jeremy was attempting to find out who had her family killed. One day, he never returned, his wereabouts are still unknown to this day.

The Ancients took great interest in Leah, and initiated her into their folds when she was 16. For the next six years, she was a part of the gang. She eventually left the gang under good terms to go out on her own.

Redid my caster, same concept

Added her background, got rid of her extra weapons. She only thing non SR core is her form fitting body armor, and her tres chic clothing. She's still not a combat magic powerhouse, but can do some major support.

== Background ==
Leah was born into a political family in Denver. Even though her powers began to manifest at an early age, they kept them quiet so that it did not hurt the family's public image. She watched as both her mother and father manipulated people to pass bills. When she was 14, a rival politician had her family assassinated. One of her families bodyguards, Jeremy, was able to get her out of the house during the attack, and smuggled her out of Denver, settling in Seattle. He helped raise her with his girlfriend, a Seattle stripper named Jazze Belle, She spent many days in the back rooms of the clubs while Jeremy was attempting to find out who had her family killed. One day, he never returned, his wereabouts are still unknown to this day.

The Ancients took great interest in Leah, and initiated her into their folds when she was 16. For the next six years, she was a part of the gang. She eventually left the gang under good terms to go out on her own.

I'm not an expert when it comes to mages so I really can't comment on that part but I do have some things to say. Why do you have a Ammo Skip System on your Warhawk? I don't really see the point of it especially seeing as wtf asked for K.I.S.S. characters. You should have some Earbuds so you can have a Sound Link and try to sneak in a Subvocal  Microphone because silent communications will be handy at some point.

Also a comment on your back-story. Why exactly would Leahs magical talent be a bad thing for her family image? Not saying that her back-story is bad it would just be nice with a bit more info on that point.

Ammo skip is so I can swap from Stick n Shock to Reg ammo (will be loaded 3/3).

I just see magic as something that a politician wouldn't want to be made public, especially in the late 50's.

Well drekk I just realized that maybe I should write up a back story and what not for Sten Klinga, so here goes.

Gonna be using the 3 edition book Shadows of Europe for information about the Scandinavian Union, if any part of what I write here in blatantly non-canonical let me know.

Archetype/Race

Personality
Sten is clam, collected, professional willing to let other do the talking and let him eliminate any problem in need of a more permanent solution.


Background
Sten grew up in the rougher part of the Scandinavian city Stockholm where he learned to keep his eyes open, his steppes quiet and his knife ready. Sten looked set to end up dead in a backstreet gutter after a gang fight when fate (or blind-luck) intervened. When Sten was 13 years old he was involved in a massive showdown between two street-gangs that resulted several death. The judge presiding was sett to throw the book at the youths that where apprehended when a representative of the security company TYR approached the judge with a suggestion to enroll the kids not directly involved with any of the killings in a TYR backed "social improvement program" that acted as a recruitment-center for the company. Sten excelled in the program and after several years of training he was assigned to one of TYRs special paramilitary task-forces.

In the year 2069 Stens life to a sharp turn ones again. During a cover-operation in the Haparand Magical Anomaly Zone Stens entire unis was whipped-out. Sten walked out of the HMAZ without any memories of the operation and the month of preparation that presided it. When Sten made his way back to civilization he realized that he was  the only survivor of a botched operation and that TYR is pinning the blame on him. Realizing that he lacked the contacts and street-smarts to dodge TYR in their own home-turf for any amount of time he quickly contacted the Vory boss in Kalix to bought safe passage out of the Scandinavian Union for most of his gear and money.

Sten has only recently arrival in [City where we will be running] but he has established a solid working relationship with a fixer that goes by the name of Jack..

Looks/Particular Gear/Style
Sten has a broad flat face with a big potato nose in the middle. He keeps his short blond hair in a backslick.
He is tall and quite fit but by far not the most muscual orc you have ever seen.
When he isn't expecting trouble he wears dark suites with a fedora, purple scarf and synth-pleader gloves.
