Title: What minis do you use for Shadowrun?
Post by: Grymjack on <10-01-10/1033:09>
This is just a general topic about the minis that you all use for your table top game, if any.

I wanted to know if you all use the Iron Wind Metals miniatures or if you prefer something else, and why.

Currently I find the range of minis a bit dated, after all they are the original sculpts from the 80s.

What you got?

I am loyal to IWM but I was not impressed with their Minotaurs so I went to Reaper for Usda. That's going to be Usda just over there on the left.

More often than not, star wars figured (from the d20 pre-painted line)

I'm still wishing and dreaming of the day when we'll see some solid shadowrun miniatures... I promise, I'd buy some so please make them!

Actually, i have all the sets of Shadowrun minis and Cyberpunk 2020 minis ever made. A few rifts figs. A couple of some deadlands type figs. And even the tro of 40k Orc "sonic marines" (or whatever they are called), the ones that look like Slash and Axel from GnR, as Orc rockers.
Very few of them are painted, because I suck at that.
Bad thing is I don't ever get to use them cause my group now dosen't use figs...  :(

In a pinch, Necromunda figs work just fine.  Me and all my friends are wargamers enough to the point that one of us will have something that looks cool for what we're wanting a figurine for -- between lots of cheaply-purchased commons from various collectible miniature ranges (D&D, Star Wars, Heroclix, are great to buy for silly low prices), and our assortment of actual wargames...we're like iPad.

"There's an app (err, mini) for that."

I need a new one for my rigger mystic. Anyone know of a Tom Cruise miniature?

My groups doesn't use minis.  In the past I tend to use what ever minis I have lying around (usually either Mutant Chronicles figures, or Star Wars figures).  I would love to see some plastic, pre-painted SR figures though (I don't have the time to assemble and paint IWM figures so they are out of the questions).

I don't use minis.  I usually just sketch things out on paper or use my non-six-siders to mark out where everyone is.

I'm using a pathfinder mini (http://www.miniature-giant.com/seltyiel-iconic-half-elf-eldritch-knight-Reaper-sku-60032-pr-12788.html) that I'm thinking of modding a bit actually (removing the magic bat because I don't like it). I know there isn't going to be an elf mini even remotely looking like Coderizon that's period appropriate, but at least Seltyiel has a similar face and haircut. I wish the sword was more removable so I could replace it with a whip though.

Working (slowly) on a digital painting of him.

LEGOS

And, with sites like BrickForge (http://www.brickforge.com/store/) you can make sure your mini is outfitted to match your character. With everything from Power Blades (http://www.brickforge.com/store/home.php?cat=391) and Battle Rifles (http://www.brickforge.com/store/home.php?cat=429) to Space Marien Armor (http://www.brickforge.com/store/home.php?cat=289) and Goggles (http://www.brickforge.com/store/home.php?cat=354); you can really customize your mini!

We're using them in our Pathfinder game (and since they had released the Castles line a few years ago, there's orcs, skeletons and dwarves out on the market).

I mostly just have old space, pirate, city, and old-school castle guys.  I figure that as long as everyone knows what represents who it's all good.

Miniatures are great, but more often I use dice, like D4s. Or I simply draw everything out. Ends up looking like a football play, but it works well.

I rely on my friends' mini collections if and when I use them.

To me, using minis also has negative aspects, so that's why I don't really have them. Not to mention it's hard for me to find minis I like.

I've got a buddy that's got original Shadowrun minis. Thought that was kinda cool.

As far as legos go, I bet they  would work pretty damn good. When I was younger me and my friend made a lego rpg system to allow us to battle with our legos. lol.

That reminds me, I should take some pictures of my Shadowrun minis that I painted up when I was a young(er) wastrel. I really liked my female elf sammie and Maria Mercurial minis.

I have minis for characters I don't even play and probably never will. XD I hoard them and paint them just for fun as it is.

I also anticipate one of the boys bringing a warhammer army of theirs ONE of these days. The general consensus has been against our battletech ones, unfortunately. I like my mechs. XD

I have never seen the BattleTech cartoon.  I assume it was terrible, but I may be wrong.  Unlikely as it may be.
Title: Re: What minis do you use for Shadowrun?
Post by: Critias on <10-02-10/1536:03>
It was...interesting.  They oversimplified the story quite a bit, but for the time it had pretty decent animation and solid integration of (then) cutting-edge computer visuals.  Put plainly, it was about what you're probably picturing when someone says "Battletech Saturday morning cartoon."

On a related note, my favorite thing about it was that it was eventually integrated into official Battletech canon, listed as a propaganda cartoon put out to show how valiantly the Inner Sphere fought back against the Clan threat, etc, etc.  Brilliant!   ;D

Pick up the 1st Somerset Strikers (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=64031) sourcebook. It details all the characters and stories of the entire series. The show was interesting that it was cartoon, then CGI for the BattleMech sequences, then cartoon.

Is Battletech a mini game or an rpg?

I don't remember alot about the cartoon, cuz I was a kid, but I remember it being pretty cool. Mechs are just badass.

I want to build one, but it costs so much just for the system of hydraulics it requires. I am facebook friends with a dude that built one, though. Its like 18 feet tall. something like that.

Not too fond of the RPG. XD Never bothered with it. 99% of it's played as a tabletop wargame. Think warhammer with much cheaper minis, smaller units, mechs, and a lot less dice. XD

Hi guys!

I made a conversion from a 40k ork in the last day or so. It's to represent my ugly as hell Troll sammy "Monster"

http://squinkyproductions.deviantart.com/#/d2zybkj

Seems to work good. Next time I will use a Nob body though, he isn't quite massive as I'd like.

I always kind of liked the RPG.  Complicated, weird ass rules, but interesting fun.  My friends and I had most of the various BattleTech games and mixed them up pretty well, creating some truly epic (and at times confusing) games.

A mini game I might be able to afford to play? Sweet.

Never got into Warhammer because it's so expensive to build your little armies. I'd like to try some of the 40k games some time though. My friend was telling me about Blood Bowl and some other 40k game. Sounded like alot of fun.

Well, Battletech doesn't have any claptrap about "only official minis are allowed".

Heck, at one point I think someone was selling little printed cardboard Battletech minis?

I know they made cheap plastic Battlemech minis at one point too.

Most Battletech games are played at a unit level, with one or two lances (5 mechs each) per side.

There are point buying rules to build your lances but a lot of folks I know just set a total tonnage per side.

My 4thEd box for it had printed cardboard minis.  I used a combination of those, cheap plastic ones, a couple of pewter minis, legos, those green army men, and G.I. Joes.

so, after looking at IWM i have to say thank you to whoever mentioned them here first,
as i did not know someone was still dropping metal into those old molds.
Now, i am going to have to recollect them, as i gave away most my miniatures during my youth.

Personally, i have been using a mixture of the "Chronoscope" line by Reaper, along with a few Privateer
press "Warmachine/Iron Kingdoms" mini's and "Malifaux" by Wyrd miniatures.
a few place markers,etc.
This is my first go using miniatures with Shadowrun, and so far, its worked nicely.

I also personally think Squinky's converted WH40k ork>Troll is awesomesauce.

Title: Re: What minis do you use for Shadowrun?
Post by: Usda Beph on <10-04-10/1319:07>
Generally speaking, and I don't like going here, the IWM Shadowrun line needs more veriety. There needs to be a GunSpec, Sammie, et all for all the races, & both sexes including the Surge races from Runner Companion (IIRC). once they have had time to catch on. I think a Hobgoblin bodyguard would look rather cool!

I believe that new staples of the Archtypes in the core book is a starting point.  Maybe even racial sterotypical archtypes.  Troll-tank, Elf-Mage, Human-Hacker, Dwarf Rigger, Ork-Merc

I think the larger issue is how much support do you all think that we can generate for IWM to really start exploring the line?
Title: Re: What minis do you use for Shadowrun?
Post by: Usda Beph on <10-04-10/1519:02>
Well I bet they'll be willing to do the same as they do for CBT right now. If a group of players "fund a sculpt" they will get the minis on the market. Enough stuff get funded then Iron Wind can get a feel for what the runners want and then they could begin to pad the inventory. Is it possible to get IWM to visit this forum like they do the CBT's forum? If enough noise gets made maybe new minis might start getting churned. I like your idea Grymjack! If enough of us make polite noise maybe IWM will give us some 4th ed minis.
