Are you ready to risk everything?

The Sixth World. One of the most enduring RPG settings ever created, with shadows growing deeper and darker in its latest edition. Dominated by enormous, world-striding megacorporations strangling metahumanity in their clutches, by 2080 most of the planet has surrendered to these corporate overlords.

But from the darkest shadows, defiance flickers in people known as shadowrunners. They risk everything—wrestling magical energies, channeling them into power; putting their minds against the electronic void of the Matrix; trading flesh and blood for chrome and steel.
Stand up, join them, and dare to risk it all!

Shadowrun, Sixth World builds on Shadowrun’s amazingly successful legacy, becoming easier to learn and play while still providing role-playing depth. Welcome to the marquee event of the game’s 30th Anniversary year!

It all starts with the Shadowrun, Sixth World Beginner Box, releasing in June. Here’s an exclusive look at the box’s cover art and contents:

Take your first step into the shadows with a new novella, “The Frame Job, Part 1: Yu” available today (https://store.catalystgamelabs.com/products/shadowrun-the-frame-job-part-1-yu).  Written by Dylan Birtolo, this exciting new fiction—which ties into the characters from the Shadowrun, Sixth World Beginner Box—is the first installment in a cycle of novellas releasing over the next few months.

Hrm. The Rigger Dossier intrigues me.

Possible that 6E will see Rigger rules early in the cycle for once?

The Shadowrun, Sixth World Beginner Box includes four character dossiers; the Rigger dossier is a fifth one along the same lines, intended for web-release.

I can only hope that this edition finally allows the priority system and progressive costs for advancement die an ignominious death and they are never seen again.

They have already confirmed the priority system, sorry to disapoint (although personally I like it, so I'm happy)

The SCN broadcast last night also said, without going into details, that the priority system doesn't punish playing a metahuman. So there's some kind of change, probably.

I am quite excited as a lot of this is stuff I have been asking/begging for, this is feeling like a dream come true. I really wish I could buy the CRB asap instead of having others play with the beginner's box before me, why not release both at the same time?

Really it's the combo of the two that leads to a lot of the stupid.  If building during Priority has increasing costs with roughly the same kind of curve that post-chargen advancement has then you won't see skills of 6 and 1 across the board.  Or, heaven forbid, they just use the same resource and costs for chargen and advancement.

I actually like the Priority system.  I just wish whoever put it together for 5th edition had gotten the math less loppysided.

OK, I'll give you that one. Priority System on its own isn't that bad, though I prefer 4E's point buy, since it allowed for greater customization. But the progressive costs for advancement have always meant that what you had after chargen was pretty much always going to be the absolute best you were ever going to be, unless you were lucky enough to get into a long-running group, or took the same character to a bunch of Missions events.

You do realize you've been misinterpreting the costs for advancement, right? Going from 6 to 7 in an active skill is 14 karma, not 56 karma.

Doesn't that mean that 7E will be coming out at GenCon then? :P

Going from 0 to 7 is 56 Karma.  That's progressives costs.  Wow, years later and nothing has changed.

Quite looking forward to what this will bring!

@Cubby - can you confirm the artist who did the cover of the box set?

I fail to see the problem here. If you want to be good at something, be good at it right out of chargen so you don't have to spend dozens of karma to achieve a decent dicepool for it.

Well...that Sixth World shirt is pretty cool...

My problem is my awesome t-shirt collection is really big now, I've wanted to stop expanding it... But what is one more shirt...I guess...

It used to be that the Rigger book was the last of the extended core books, signalling the end of the edition. SR4 had no Rigger book, except an April's Fools joke related to this. SR5 it came out sooner, SR6 they're joking it's immediately ending because there's a Rigger thing coming out. :P In truth it's simply a fifth character to add to the 4 in the Beginner Box.

Meanwhile, Technomancers now have to wait the longest for a detailed book.

Oh, so I may wish to revise my idea of using one for a hacker/rigger then? Shoot, looks like I'll need to go for the cyberware equivalents then.

Nah, don't worry. It's just that the full-detailed-TM book was late. And with Riggers basically the detailed vehicle-mod rules and lots of options such as Humanoid drones will take a while to come out, but you can already rig using the core.
