Title: Korea
Post by: Mirikon on <12-19-11/0856:07>
For those of you who enjoy sleep, North Korea announced Monday morning, local time, that Kim Jong Il has died. His son, Kim Jong Un appears to be the likely successor. So, there's a new leader in the world's most unstable powder keg, but one who has a chance to make a pivot without losing face or appearing weak, and if the North Korean spin machine keeps working as it always has, could still manage to look like a hero to his people by improving their lot in life. Is this likely to happen? Maybe not, but part of me really hopes it will.

Got my fingers crossed... hopefully he'll be much more easily swayed by the lure of the Dark Side... *ahem* I mean capitalistic decadence... *AHEM*... sorry, I mean by the light of reason and open dialogue... than his father.  ;)

Also, is it horrible that one of my first thoughts was someone must've pulled a Shadowrun to poison his food?

Let's keep this a purely informative thread and leave politics and everything else out of it, please.

[serious-hat]

In light of this, let me just say, as a general disclaimer to anyone that may think that my previous post is meant to contain some specific political statement, leaning, innuendo, or message, that it is not intended to have any such content, either for or against any political or religious belief system, including, but not limited to, Capitalism, Socialism, Communism, Democracy, Christianity, and Atheism.

The statement was designed with the sole intent of expressing a general feeling of cynicism towards the realities of global affairs and the nature of spin-doctoring. Also as an excuse to use the phrase "lure of the Dark Side". Any other possible interpretations are unintended and not warrantied, sponsored, backed, or endorsed by the poster.

[/serious-hat]

And yes, I really am being serious. I stand by my statement of cynicism but, given the powder-keg that anything even remotely political, I feel it's better to be safe than sorry with the disclaimers.

Don't worry, my comment wasn't directed to you or Mirikon, but a general warning to all those that will respond.

So, a Unified Korea for Homefront...  Er, Shadowrun?

Didn't, according to the official shadowrun timeline, North Korea have a classic 'nukes dont work' situation around now?  Then unity, then Imperial Japan dominion?

So, a Unified Korea for Homefront...  Er, Shadowrun?

I saw something saying Homefront missed Kim's death by less than two weeks in it's prediction. I got a laugh out of that. Too bad the game was so utterly terrible.

Needed more storyline and less FPS, and needed to be MUCH longer.  Especially as they were selling it based on the "In depth story as written by..." in the commercials, not as "Just another FPS".

Even their new MMO is story intensive. Every quest is a ME style conversation.

Yeah it's pretty much a StarFox arcade minigame with limited customization and upgrades. I don't play this part very often. But really you play SWToR for this part of the game. The main RPG part is pretty cool tho and the story arcs are nice. Far from the best MMO I've played but the experience is enjoyable. I really like that I never really feel like I'm grinding my character to get to the next zone, I just do my storyline quests and all the others I can pick up on the road and it just goes up pretty smoothly.

They could have had the decency to make a graphically updated X-wing Vs Tie Fighter style game....but nooooooo

Or actually finishing X-Wing:  Alliance and putting it out with a modern engine.

"I say, (Playername), that Chiss looks angry with you."
Option 1: I killed his mother. (Dark Side)
Option 2: Yeah, his mother was killed by a stray blaster bolt when the Imperials came after me. I tried to make amends but he didn't want my credits, so I built him a house. (Light Side)
Option 3: 'Course he is, I had sex with his mother last night.

Game Tip seen on one of the MMO loading screens:

"Press Space to do a barrel roll"

Saints Row The Third had a character say "Let's do a spin, that's always a good trick." when first encountering combat in the thing that looked like "A Helicopter that f***ed a Jet Fighter".

I almost kicked my X-Brick.

I will forever be unnerved by N. Korea until the day I find out they aren't murdering half chinese babies of escaping defectors.

Y'know, even if we do some pretty rotten things over here in the US, I don't think that compared to North Korea we can really be called the Dark Side.

Unless there's a practice in our government of very literal baby killing that I'm not aware of. And I'm not talking abortions here (there are those too of course) I'm talking the baby is already out of the womb and get stabbed with surgical scissors or suffocated in a plastic bag.

Keeping to facts and not politics.

Seems unlikely we'll be hearing much from N. Korea until they get things back inline with the new leader. BBC reported that the powers that be there said 'don't expect any changes'. Time will tell though.

Depends on how much crazy is in the family tree, or was just in the old man's history.

Perhaps. Though I'm not sure how to read the new leader. He was educated in Europe, but that doesn't mean he is educated. His few public appearances have shown him to have an air of being distant. Doesn't really matter, his uncle and the military will be in control while he is groomed for the position.

Since we're completely off-topic already, and on the off-off thread anyway:

Did it suck as much to you as it did to me?
I played it for a week, waited 2 months for some patches, tried it again for a couple of days, then gave up and went back to Civ IV.
Has it been fixed yet? I just don't have the courage to try it again... the disappointment is just too much :(

Unfortunately there's not alot of information on the whole family. They live so far outside of the mainstream society that no one even knows who the new leaders mother is; so there's no telling what kind of person the uncle is.

Civ V is great.   I perhaps played it after its round of bugs, but I have dropped many many hours into that game and still want more.
