[SR5]Tomatoes (Gnome with MMG, GenCon Edition)

I've asked for help with this guy before.  Basically a gnome who loves medium machine guns and grenades.  I named him Tomatoes because that's makes chunky salsa ;).  With GenCon Coming up, I figured I'd finally get to play him, but he needs some missions legal tweaks.  How does he look?  Tips for what to spend money on would be nice.  I had it blown on a lifestyle, but then I was thinking I needed a vehicle instead of getting on a bus with my MMG..

Does he need to be an Adept? I'm not seeing the value of it... you can get those same bonuses for 200k worth of Augmentations & less than 4 points of Essence. Could still have plenty more value going cyber with him... changing your Priorities around would get more skills & Nuyen.

@Reaver: Yeah, that's the point, I originally wanted to make a pixie with one, but I can't get their strength up enough.  Also, wouldn't an MMG, be about the same size?

Does it have to be a MMG??? That strength 8 requirement is pretty brutal for not much benefit... is a LMG or an Assault Cannon acceptable?

Current mmgs (like the m240) weight between 30 to 60 lbs (depends if they have a built in tripod or not.) And measure 46 to 78 inches long (just under 4 feet to just over 6 feet)

The ammo used in a mmg is usually the 7.62 nato, or the 7.92 warsaw which means a 100 round belt also weighs in around 10 pounds.



Most medium machine guns in history where either squad weapons over a 3 man crew (one packed the weapon, one packed the tripod and extra barrels, one carried the ammo.) Or the machine gun was mounted to a wheeled carrage and dragged to its location.

Nothing in SR rules says you can't. Lets be clear on that 😆 there is nothing really stopping you mechanics wise, as SR is not a RL combat simulator, nor does it follow silly little things like physics 😀

Physics would slap you upside the head (IRL) IF you tried this. First the weapon weights half your weight, and is bigger then you. Since 2/3 of the weapon is infront of you, (if I remember my math right) would mean you effectively have a 45 lbs weight held 3 feet in front of you.


Try this at home. Grab any HEAVY object. Now hold it at shoulder height, with a straight arm in front of you. You will either feel the shift in pressure to your lumbar spine as it is now increased the mechanical strain to your spine by a multipcative amount!

So yea, while the rules fo not say you can't, many people will give you the eye roll when mention things like this cause we see the phyics behind it, or have life experience with similar things just makes us scream "No! Nononononono! NO!"  inside our heads.

Hmm, well if you think this will make things less fun for others at the table, I should try and think of a new guy.  Just thought it would be fun/silly.

Issue is at GenCon you get a random bag.  I'll be going with some friends, but we wouldn't be a full table probably.

Well... it's impossible to hit Str 8 with a Gnome out of Chargen without Restricted Gear for Muscle Augmentation or Replacement 4. An Assault Cannon would probably be best but I did figure out something HILARIOUS using an LMG, just doesn't seem worth it to me to invest that much to get a very minor improvement.

Hint to his hilariousness is that I got him running 75mph/120kph & +10 points of Recoil Compensation.

Ares Alpha is 11F... as well as a bunch of other Assault & Submachine guns. So I've never played at Cons either but I'd have to assume (especially in a Pink Mohawk game) that Forbidden items can't be that big of a deal. Otherwise you can't have Pink Mohawk games

For the cons questions, I believe it should be ok.  It uses the Shadowrun Missions rules, which can be found by Googling "shadowrun missions faq 1.3"  it's the first result (a dropbox).  The fact that it's forbidden is the reason I got the jackrabbit.

Also, why would cyber (though with exceptional attribute, I think I could get 8 strength cyberarms right?) be more believable then adept?  I actually HAVE a strength of 8 with the powers, so I'd be a little guy as strong as most trolls.
