I've seen a website called Roll20(http://www.roll20.net/) referenced in several places around the boards and often along with complaints about the video chat system. Looking for reviews online I've found much of the same along with a few other drawbacks that make it seem like it's probably a bit of a hassle for Shadowrun. I was wondering if some people would like to share their experiences with roll20.
Mostly I was wondering if anyone has used Infrno(http://www.infrno.net/) or Tabletop Forge(http://tabletopforge.com/). I haven't been able to find any real reviews on these and Tabletop Forge looks quite promising based on their website.
The biggest thing I'm personally looking for is the video chat with multiple people but I'm not one of those fancy-pants rich types who can afford premium Skype. And I'm cheap. And a part of the internet generation so I feel entitled to free everything. Mostly I'm just po'. (As my girlfriend likes to say. See, because we can't afford the 'or' at the end and whatnot.)
Well I have used roll20 and I have used infrno. If you use the old table on ifrno the chat works just fine. You can see people and hear them on there, but you oddly enough won't find many people there that actually use cams. On roll20 I can't use their voice or cams because since patch 11 on flash, it uses more processing power than my laptop can manage, so the whole thing crashes out.
That said, between the two, I prefer roll20.net. The tabletop is much, much more advanced allowing you things like fog of war, actual player handouts, measuring tools to show how far one token is from the next. Then other things like snapping tokens into the grid and the 3d dice. However, sometimes the 3d dice can sort of hang and take forever to show your actual roll. Oh yes and the dice can be rolled to show hits as opposed to just totals.
If you're just looking for a tabletop and video conference, I say inferno. Even on my laptop I can use their old table and see/hear just fine. The new table uses the flash thing and it crashes out on me just like roll20. If you're looking for fancy GM stuff, go with roll 20 and just use skype for voice, its what 2/3rds of the games I am in do.
