Yeah, going for the car would probably take some edge. :(

And I'm not sure why anyone's surprised. You go to battle with the weapons you have, and Sam's...well, his immediate reaction to almost everything is to lie as brazenly as possible. ;D (I mean, we all know what would have happened if Con had been the one to notice the cop, right? :-\ )

Not surprised, just forgotten how good you are at this stuff.  And that's some great writing I must add.

Hrm, it doesn't  look like Sam's getting out of this one easily. He (naturally) doesn't have a fake SIN that would indicate that he's a local here, much less one that's hooked up to the name that he gave the cop. He can rely on his glibness to delay/distract the cop, but given Crossbow's repeatedly bringing up the identification issue, it seems that his 9 hits on the con aren't going to be enough to shut down that line of inquiry.

I don't remember, have we picked up any credsticks that Sam could try to bribe the guy with? Or, does anyone have a better idea (read: less likely to end up with Sam in the slammer)  of what I should do next? :)

I think the only thing that would get that cop to let the ID thing go would be to be called on another, more urgent matter.

Okay, to be clear, while you have kinda dug yourself a hole, it is not unheard of to have a legitimate SIN that has not been updated to a current job, especially with a move involved, though there is probably a ticket or a fine involved.  That said, this activity will certainly compromise any fake ID you give him, so it should be abandoned after its use in this scenario.  Likewise, O'Conner's ID that he used to rent the car should probably be abandoned as well, along with the car, once Torley let's him know that the cop is checking the cars on the street.

The good news is that aside from that you are likely to be in the clear time-wise, as long Torley can disentangle himself from the officer and you guys don't mind walking home...at least part of the way through the I-10 zone that runs adjacent to the club  :)

BTW tic-tic...sorry got in a habit there ;)

By the way, your nine hits bought you out of a shoot out with a Military Grade HRT, probably with magical back-up.  Remember, the "cops" in the unincorporated areas of LA are actually PCC Federal forces.

Whew!  Good job Sam.  Snow does not mind walking a bit if we can find the fragging chip.

We can probably "borrow" one of the bar people's car anyways.

I'm not sure I follow; this may just be my not having much experience with this side of ShadowRun. I was under the impression that Sam's fake SIN (yes, he only has one at the moment) lists him as a UCAS citizen living in Seattle, and so would not be useful when trying to pass him off as someone living in LA. That's why I had him give a fake name*--I thought that his fake SIN was worse than useless in this situation, and so didn't want any searches from an overly-curious cop getting attached somehow to his Seattle SIN.

If that's not the case--if his fake SIN would have been usable here--Sam would not have used an alias when trying to bluff the cop. I hate to ask for permission to "retcon" the conversation, but this is something Sam would have known that I, apparently, did not.

I'm willing to play with it either way, though the fake name route is, as you noted, a deeper hole that Sam's likely to be stuck in. GM's ruling?

* Of course, Sam isn't his real name, either.

Okay, so here is the deal on this, the reason most runners DON'T interact with cops is because they either don't have SINs or the fact that any interaction with them is a test of whatever fake they have.  Having a SIN lets you be a respectable person that can interact legally with society and not get harassed.  If you have broken the law, or are attached to some kind of criminal enterprise, that kind of stuff follows you around.  What I said before applies to those people.

Now, I did assume you had a fake ID you could abandon when I made my previous post, the fact that you don't presents a problem.

If you are going to make a habit of doing this I would suggest that you invest is some disposable IDs :)  In the mean time, where you go from here is up to you, but know that if you decide to give him a fake ID, it will be attached to this situation.

Are (fake) licences attached to (fake) SINs? Can I have a licence transferred from one SIN to another?

I was afraid of that. On an unrelated topic, is there any stealable items of real value in the office?

Depends on your definition of real value.  There are a few pictures of what you assume is Steve with various persons of interest, C-class celebs, a sim-porn star, what not.  The decor of the office tends towards shiny stuff, but it is of the Pier 1 Import level of quality as opposed to say, Tiffany's level.  You could probably recreate the look, including the trophies and the furniture, for maybe 1000 nuyen back home.  The recording equipment might have some value for a collector, or somebody working a similar scam, but it would be barely worth the effort, and again, you would be taking evidence that would be slamdunk conviction otherwise.

By the way, someone asked about the camera, the footage is basically peeping tom stuff, different girls changing clothes, though there is footage of who you assume is Steve and one the strippers downstairs getting busy, she looks like she would rather be somewhere else and he is playing to the camera when she isn't looking.

Torley can easily keep the cop busy outside, but if he is going to try and leave him without showing ID I am going to need another roll, the detective is not expected on site for at least half and hour.  After about 20 more minutes, Sammy finds a grainy peepshow of Daee, a neo-metal rapper that she remembers called Whyte Knight and a couple of others doing the deed.

What is your plan to leave?

Lucky break, well done Thvor! If this coincides with the people upstairs finding the footage, I think this might have just bought us a few minutes to get away from the scene.
