Actually, I would prefer if she didn't.    I figure taking a full action to carefully shift away the hatch would give you enough positive pool modifiers to get you up to a point where you could buy a success.  It would be really silly to have you make a roll where you have a chance to fail, or worse yet, critically glitch.
