Guys, I am creating a razorguy for merc game.
I've never been much into the numbers nor I have the knowledge of the books. I'd probably be happy with slightly modified pre-gen (covert ops specialist or street samurai), but I don't want to be a liability in the optimized team.

so this are assumptions:
- human or elf
- close combat -> razors and small automatics, ambidextrous, smartlink
- chipped -> max Init passes possible
- good flexible armor -> dermal plating, but can be anything else
- muscle replacement possible not must, but I'd like to be able to shred to pieces a typical opponent in one combat round
- cybereyes, for smartlinks and night operations
- inflitration skills

I'd need several Build points left to flesh out skills (I will double as secondary combat medic)

on the negatives - there will be addiction to combat stimulants, and a contact for getting them, I could be SINner or criminal SINner, anyway proffesional soldier, and I could be really bad with hacking or driving or heavy weaponry

Anyone?
Sorry for a small delay ;)

a lot of that stuff, (had razors and dermal armor) are about permanence and stealth.  Not something a merc has to worry about.  (body armor is standard.) Also, I always advise against bringing a knife to a gun fight.

that's true. But even though we're mercs we are a special platoon, I imagine that we need some kind of infiltrator for some of the tasks, that may come. And there is no such skills around, and I'll double as a medic on standard occasions.

plus I am not neglecting automatics so there is always additional firepower on short and mid-range.

still if you think he'll be useless, I'll switch to drone master or heavy weapon specialist (launchers, machine guns style)

To be honest, creating a merc with the appropriate ranged combat ability and tactical mindset who just also happens to be good at close combat is a good secondary field to have.  I wouldn't make it their primary, or if I did, I'd make it so that their "secondary" ranged ability is quite good.  Good enough to take the fight to others when at range.  Their specialty at infiltration and silent take-down is a good one to have to round out a group.
There is no overkill.

Only "Open fire" and "I need to reload."
