Oookay, this hasn't gone as planed...
The team accepted the job for what amounts to 48,000-55,000 a person (after lifestyle cost) depending on how they treat the kid. They also managed to get airfare. Because he is a corp-brat they got quite a bit on his back ground and the low down on the charity event he's attending.
They immediately loaded up and headed for Tokyo. Jay-C and Woad passed themselves off as business men with Dan-O as their bodyguard returning sensitive corporate property. This was their usual MO for getting into and out of the country and worked mostly because no one wanted to stir up trouble when the corporations were involved. Shiko got in because she possessed an actual Japanese SIN. Waldo, being an AI, stayed home and waited for them to set up their Satellite Up-links.
Once in town they head for their safe house. Their local fixer daylights as a dock manager and provides them with a place made from/disguised as shipping containers (replaces their usual lifestyles with, Middle lifestyle, Easy Going Landlord, and costs them a total of 7,000 a month.) Here they gear up. Jay-C grabs his Dragonflies and his special coat (has places for the Dragonflies to launch, land, and recharge. It’s also shielded against cyber ware scanners.) Dan-O changes into his classy 1920’s mobster suit and starts playing cards with Woad. Shiko changes into her kimono and starts making calls.
Everyone’s primary weapon while in Japan is typically a Nitama Sporter as it’s explicitly legal in Japan and they managed to steal a shipment of 100 a while back, so they aren’t afraid of disposing of them. (I honestly thought they would sell them after they found their Johnson dead and realized they weren't getting paid.)
Shiko gets half a hit from one of her contacts, an employee at a hostess club who plays Pit Bunny at the local street races. She informs them of a race happening at the same time as the charity event. Waldo actually thinks to check and see if London shipped anything and figures out that London’s car has been shipped by air to Japan and has just arrived. They immediately draw a connection and the rigger gets a bright idea. Rewire the security system in London's car to fry London.
The party agrees and decides that Jay-C and Shiko can handle this one alone. Meanwhile, Woad is going to investigate the racetrack and Dan-O intends to stalk a few clubs that London may be visiting on his first night in town.
*Special Note on Dan-O* Dan-O is one of the odder builds I’ve seen for a Troll. He started the game with a Charisma of 3, Influence Skill Group 4, Kinesics 6, and Tailored Pheromones 2. He was still taking penalties for being a troll in Japan. Offensively he had Agility 4, Strength 9, Power Throw 4, and Missile Mastery. Being an Adept, he spent his other 30 BP on Type-O system and by the time of this run had geared up with Muscle Toner and Augmentation 4. I obviously wanted to know what was up with this guy. A long story short, Dan-O was a barkeep/owner who refused to pay the mob their due and lost everything to a firebomb. I’m not a fan of blending Adepts and Augs, but the character concept is amusing and has been played really well so far.
Now this is where the rigger learns it’s not a good idea to try and get cleaver when he’s A) inexperienced as a rigger and B) dealing with a rigger NPC made by the best rigger in our play group. Now when I built London’s Shin-Hyung, I built it how I would as a PC with the cash. This meant I also went through my usual MO of physically removing any wireless system from the vehicle that was not absolutely needed, and separating anything that wasn't removed from the car's controls. The car could only be controlled from a single data-jack inside the car. I then connected the termination system to a password (Answer: Honey) that was asked when one tried to access the system via the data-jack.
Taking Shiko’s Shin-Hyung, she and Jay-C made it to the Skylark building and down to its garage. They found the car and immediately used the Satellite uplink in Shiko’s car so that Waldo could hack London’s car. Unfortunately they were two stories underground and couldn’t get a connection. So they tried the old fashioned way, over the normal matrix routes. Waldo then informed them the car could not be accessed remotely as it wouldn’t respond. This annoyed Jay-C.
Jay-C: “I approach the car and start to examine it.”
Me: “From what you can see the car has Chameleon coating, a turbocharger, and tinted windows.”
Jay-C: “I try to open the door on the off chance it’s unlocked.”
Me: “And an anti-theft system…”
Jay-C: “Drek…”
Me: “Unauthorized entry… Resist 10 stun, electric half’s armor.”
He resisted four and was knocked on his back.
Shiko: “I lean over him with my arms behind my back… Wow, that looked like it hurt…”
Jay-C: “Shove it… I get back up without touching the car…”
Shiko: “I don’t see how we’re going to do this. We touch the car it zaps us. But we can’t turn off the security system unless we first get into the car.”
Jay-C: “What about underneath it? Can it zap me from underneath?”
I thought about this for a while and considered the exact wording form Arsenal before deciding that the cars frame would most likely be isolated from the shock.
Shiko: “I’ll get the Jack.”
The two carefully lifted the car using the jack and Jay-C looked under it.
Jay-C: “What do I see?”
Me: “Nothing out of the ordinary… I can tell you now that if you’re trying to access the car’s electrical system then you’re going to have a hard time reaching them from underneath. Odds are they’re sealed and tucked inside the dash or accessible only through the hood.”
Jay-C: “*Sigh* Alright… I crawl back out and pull myself up.”
Shiko: “What kind of lock is it?”
Me: “Mag-lock with a key pad.”
Shiko: “I try my sequencer without touching the car.”
We rolled the dice and the Sequencer passed.
Jay-C: “Yes, I open the door and climb in.”
Me: “You see that the manual controls have been removed and replaced with a data-jack.”
Jay-C: “I plug in…”
Me: “You’re immediately greeted by a question… Password?”
Now at this point he could have easily plugged his external com-link into the car and let Waldo take over. Instead, he tried to answered the question.
Jay-C: “Uh… OneCoolDude… enter?”
The termination system engaged and gassed him with Neuro-Stun. Shiko stepped back and let the gas dissipate before calmly pulling his lifeless body from the car. She closed the door on London’s car, placed Jay-C into her car, and drove away. Completely forgetting the jack...
I'll get back to you on Woad and Dan-O latter, I need rest.
