Title: Texicon 2011 Fort Worth, Texas May 20th - 22nd
Post by: nimrod_funk on <03-03-11/1802:07>
If your interested I think Texicon needs some Shadowrun games. The Shadowrun Commandos (or what they're called now) won't be there it looks like and it would be cool to have some Shadowrun Games out there pimping out the game. I've got lots of 28mm scaled maps you can borrow (miniatures not provided) if anyone is interested in GMing some events.

At the very least come by and we can make a pub crawl out of it at some of the fun pubs in Fort Worth.

If you can get any GMs, feel free to contact me and I can hook you up with the CMP exclusive Convention Mission adventures.

I'm likely to be one, just FYI.  I just contacted the con admin types and we're hashing out a few details.

If I could get prize support and some PDF's I could run. I've not run any games in a while but ran for the Commando's on SR3 and left the organization around 2005 or so. I've only got the main SR4 book. If there's interest in providing price support and someone could lend me some PDF's or books I could see about maybe running some games. It's been a while but it would be something different. Otherwise I'll just be running miniatures games. My only issue is that I've not kept up with the new books. That's about as far as I can go.

Last campaign I ran was in Boston after the crash and the tac-nuke went off in the Financial District. Players were just suit types who lost everything including they're sins. So they started off as newbie thugs and went out on what ever direction they liked. It was kind of cool to have a game that took place in the radioactive ruins of central Boston.

Like I said I've not played in a long time.

I'd be happy to run something at the con. I have tons of copy, but if there is something Convention specific you'd like done I'm happy to do that as well.

As far as running it's totally open. You can run a mission if you'd like or you can use a game you designed. It's totally up to you. The only prereq's are that you'll need pregened characters/character sheets. Other than that it's totally up to you. I send you a message with suggestions but they're ONLY suggestions. Really the above is the only prereq. I'd go to www.texicon.net and seee what sessions are open.

Who to contact:

The Roleplaying game Manager or "Magnate" Rollin Kearley roleplaying@texicon.net
If Rollin for some reason doesn't respond in a timely manner (Possibly personal emergencies) I'd contact the con chair directly (Greg Pitts) or message me:  epaminondas123@verizon.net or the Owner: karl@texicon.net

Rollin should give a snappy response though.

Rollin was plenty fast getting back in touch with me.  I'll be running a little Shadowrun on Friday and Saturday (that 2-6 slot), just an FYI.   ;D

That's good. He ummmm never responded to some emails I sent so I just wanted to check.

Thanks for the update!

You would do well to get on Critias's game(s). He was my favorite player and second-favorite GM (third if I include myself).

I have both of Critias' sessions free and now simply have to decide if I'm going to register for the Friday or the Saturday game.

There may -- may! -- be a second Shadowrun freelancer able to hang out, chatter away at one of my panels, and sit in on a game or two.  Details are being hammered out, schedules and travel plans are being checked, etc, etc...but it might make for a cool bonus, again.

They still aren't listed on the seminar page, but I've got it on good authority (well, from the convention organizer) that I am still slated for my "Freelancing:  How I got into it, how it works, blah blah blah" sort of seminars, from 1:00-2:00 (just prior to my game sessions) on Friday and Saturday.

So is it still possible to get in to one of the Shadowrun games at Texicon? I'd like to play, but would even be willing to run if necessary. I've been trying to get a group started at the Metroplex Roleplaying Group meetup, but it has been dead for players.

I still need to register, but I will be visiting Critias during Texicon. So I will probably be there in some capacity.

That's up to the Texicon organizer guys (I don't know what their policy is on full games, on ticket purchasing, etc).  I know Gencon has 'generic tickets' that can be used at an event to try and wheedle in to an empty seat and still get to play, but as this is my first experience with Texicon at all, I'm not sure if the same holds true.

Speaking for myself (running both the Ancient Pawns sessions), I'm fine with an extra player showing up at my game.  What I don't know is what the convention organizers feel about that sort of thing, what their standing policy on sold-out games is, etc, etc...and since I'm basically just a guest in their house, it's ultimately up to them, not me.

I had vague plans to make it to this but instead I get to install some Windows 2008 DCs to replace our 2003 ones.

Damn, I wish I could be at this one, but time and budget do not allow....

Budget wouldn't be a problem if it was to make this happen.

I believe there are still tickets available for the Texicon games for those who are attending. Email karl@texicon.net for the registration for games. He can tell you if a game is filled or not.

I think if you want to come and walk around the convention and take a look that's free. If you want to game though you probably need to buy a pass (one day). I'd email one of the con owners so so you don't have an altercation. It's a small convention and not alot of money is free so ever badge counts. Having it at the hotel isn't cheap. karl@texicon.net  would be the judge for badges and what the official rules are for playing in games al-a-carte. Rusty may be able to get a comp badge but that's entire Karl and Kevin's discrestion.

Rusty's events are on the web site for his speaking engagements. I've been busy building the terrain for the Doctor Who and Future Wars games I'm running. I'm thinking about getting out of work early and working a half day or taking that Friday off so I can game? Not sure yet?

Cheers,

If anyone has any problems or questions about the convention message me for a more complete answer. If you drink please keep in mind that there's a pub down the street and after my games are over Saturday we could make a visit for a few pints. I and Jamie will be hitting it probably Saturday night. It's not a matter of if but when.

I'm still waiting to hear on getting into Rusty's Ancient Pawns game on Friday (or Saturday, but preferably Friday), but I'm in no hurry.

Did you register to be at the con or are you going to be in one of the panels as a speaker? Message me the full info. and I'll see what I can find. As far as open slots go I doubt they'll be taken. You should be fine there. It's going to depend more on if your a con guest or not. If that's the issue I'd email karl@texicon.net. If your trying to find out how many seats are open I can ask and publish that. If your not a guest at the con that's really out of my hands as Karl and Kevin Pajak would have to make that decision as they're the owners. (Karl@texicon.net or Kevin@texicon.net).

I'm still kind of fuzzy on the details and what your needing?

I wanted to send out a public thanks to Fortinbras, Critias, Crimsondude. I didnt' get to play in Critias' game due to being stuck at work Friday. It was good meeting you and thanks for coming out and spending all the time.  Thanks to Crimsondude for coming down and making a appearance. I was especially pleased and enjoyed Fortinbras game. It was quick, well thought out, dirty and very gritty. I liked the street level nature of the game. I kept thinking BTL's, BTL's not even thinking there was anything magically based going on. I enjoy a surprise, maybe though I would have picked up on more if it wasn't 2am and I had some sleep but an enjoyable game none the less. Also haven't heard the word "brownstone" since I moved down here from Boston. Very cool. Had fun and Fortinbras should submit some adventures for possible publishing in Missions. Maybe you'll have a career in TV when Chuck grows a few inches. I'm sure he'll call you back in that case! (:>)

Cheers,

Brian Guarnieri

Hey, a good time was had by all!  I wish I'd had a little more time to actually hang out and enjoy Texicon, as it was I was just scrambling to run my stuff then get outta there (to previously planned stuff).  It was a lot of fun to meet a few new folks, introduce some new players to Shadowrun in a couple sessions, and all that.  It was cool to meet you and Fortinbras, even if it was just briefly.

My favorite moment was when a brand new SR player realized that his Street Samurai had just dropped five baddies in three seconds.  It was a fun "woah" moment for him as the last of the dice went clattering, and he grinned at just what a terribly dangerous murder machine he was playing.

I had a great time meeting some fun and interesting people. I got to play a sit-down SR game with Critias, which was as fun as I imagined. Nothing like playing a fight on a moving vehicle. I also got to play the BT RPG (Critias taught me the mini game back at his house), which was awesome. Though I did have to make a quick judgement call at one point and knowing OOC that it was pretty stupid, but not knowing so in the heat of combat, it wasn't the right one. However, that's what happens. Like Critias said, we would have spent more time but we had other obligations. That said, it has been neat to meet some other forumers, and I hope to come back to the DFW area soon.
