Title: ED-209
Post by: aimlessfreak on <02-22-11/0422:39>
So the guy who got me started playing Shadowrun always wanted to make the ED-209 but couldn't under the rules, this was using the Rigger 2 book.
Just wondering if anyone had any ideas.

Small vehicle (maybe a horseman)
Convert to walker
Add arms
Mod to you limits (dont forget the matrix stats)

Enjoy you battlemech (without the need for you to be a brain in a jar)

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too short to be a proper 'Mech.

Regular 'Mech: *SQUISH*...."ewwww, anyone got anything to scrape this off with?"

It would be a Proto at best...or a hyped up Battle Armor. But what is your definition of "proper"; not Lyran is it?

I only started this cause i thought of my friend, now I'm thinking that maybe there might an underground mini-mech fight league, kinda like battle bots but you know with guns

Unfortunately Walker Mode only works on stuff of up to Body 10, so no Ares Citymaster mecha conversions for a proper battlemech. But the ED 209 wasn't very big by my recollection, so something like a small car or enclosed bike going walker mode with mechanical arms would do you good.

A bike transforming into a battlesuit ala robotech cyclones. There is some history behind FASA properties ripping off robotech in need of repeating. ;)

If any of the old devs are on-board CGL, I'd hope they got a sense of humor over that debacle. I miss sooo that look for the Marauder tho.

Let us have a moment of silence for our loss.

My group came up with "The Horsemen of the Apocalypse", which were ED-209s they could ride around in.

I took one look at them and said, "No.  No.  Hell no.  No.  Not at all.  Forget it."

"So, maybe..."

"NO!"

"OK."

Sad part is, by the rules, it was legal.

Luckily, he thought about it, and realized that one "Car Jacking" would cripple his character.

Too expensive.  Even for a starting character with max money, almost all of it is dumped into that one item.

Also, it's very obvious, and not subtle in the least.  If it were cheaper, a go-gang would love it!

I'll have to check on the price, if I still have the break down, but IIRC, it was close to 200,000 Nuyen.

Well...  You could get something like ED-209 with this:

Base frame: Hyundai Shin-Hyung (10 Slots)
Walker mode (-2 slots)
Armor 20 (-1 slot)
Reinforced, fixed, remote mount (-3 slots)
Rigger Adaptation (-1 slot)
Normal, flexible, remote mount (-2 slots)
Fuzzy Logic (-1 slot)

Handling: +3
Accel: 10/22
Speed: 80
Pilot: 1
Body: 10
Armor: 20
Sensor: 1

All availabilities at this point are 12 or less.  Cost is 37,500.  Add in a few weapons, some software upgrades, sensors, and you are ready to go after Robocop.  I'm thinking a GE Vanquisher Autocannon in the reinforced mount and maybe something like a LAW, or grenade launcher in the standard mount.  The autocannon would take a rest. item quality (avail 20F), so ostensibly you could get this entire setup at character generation for between 60 and 70k depending on how much you invested in weapons, sensors, and program upgrades.
