Title: My most favoritest gun
Post by: Lysanderz on <01-21-16/1711:59>
So I find myself in recent days infinitely missing the Izom Aphrodite. It's an SMG, it's a Grenade Launcher, it's a whole lot of fun in a package. Has anyone played with the numbers to make it 5th acceptable?

I'd give the Aphrodite a statline of Acc 5, DV 8p, Ap -, Mode BF/FA, RC 1(2), Ammo 40(c), Avail 8F, Cost 1,600¥. Standard upgrades are Electronic Firing and Folding Stock. The GL is SS, has 1(m) ammo capacity and has all ranges reduced by 20%, except the minimum range. However, to balance it a little I'd put the Avail at 11-12F.

Forget the Aphrodite. I want the Yamaha Sakura Fubuki back. Burst fire with SA recoil, oodles of ammo, all in a Light Pistol package. Always had one for my characters that weren't focused primarily on firearms combat. Never needed to reload during a fight, ever.

It was the signature weapon for my ambidextrous gun bunny Death Blossom.

That is the official character conversion, but it doesn't convert gear, nor does it give suggestions on how to convert gear.

Dear Loyal Customers,
We here at Ares Macrotechnology strive to ensure that our products are at the bleeding edge of technology.
That being said, we are currently developing a new line of longarms that will rock the entire market.
However, at this time we here at Ares Macrotechnology can only provide what is currently on sale: the celebrated Ares Alpha.
This rifle has been the choice rifle for countless soldiers, security personnel, private military companies (such as Knight Errant and Firewatch), and for some of the most daring shadowrunners on the planet.
Time and time again, this rifle has proven to be the most qualified rifle for standard combat, wherever and however that may take place.
Although there are many restrictions on the Alpha, we here at Area Macrotechnology strive daily to make this quality firearm available to a wider crowd of responsible people.
Despite these restrictions and what other people may say about 'concealability' and other details, this rifle is still the best on the market.
It's in the name: Alpha

Please take time to consider all the advantages of Ares equipment.
-Damian Knight, CEO and President of Ares Macrotechnology

Catalyst really needs to come up with a sheet of arms converted from 4e to 5e for all of the supplements.  As to my favorite I just give my characters a plain old Ares Predator.  For heavy fire power the AK 97.  If you have to absolutely kill everybody in a room except no substitute for the good old fashioned Kalashnikov.

Actually, the Ares Alpha is a better option, better damage, ACC, recoil reduction (not mod based), and comes with a grenade launcher.

Not sure about a conversion, but if was anything like the new Izom Artemis from Street Lethal I can see why you liked it. I am really liking the artemis especially with the mods I added. Found it in Chummer along with several other goodies from there and had to go get the book. Love the design too.

Praetorian is back but it now looks ugly as sin. I much preferred its Gun Heaven 2 look, where the bayonet was neatly integrated as a slashing weapon. Not the ugly flintlock+bayonet style. My new favourite is the Cavalier Champion: Nastiest Heavy Pistol around, at only +1 Concealability and requiring you to keep a bunch of bullets at hand to quickly reload it.

Having a pistol belt with four Cavaliers is also a neat way to use this gun. Works especially well with quickdraw holsters  ;)

I'm traditionalist so the Savalette Guardian. Not as good as the Ruger, but it's reliably solid in every edition it's been released in.

...my Missions version of Leela has one. Still the nastiest "handgun" out there at 10P...and with EXEX rounds....

The 3E version of the character also used it.

Not subtle at all though (however she loves things that go "WHOOOOOSH-BOOOOOM!")

...and for my Bushido Cowgirl adept KK, Nothing better than pair of a Ruger Super Warhawks, particularly loaded with handload EXEX  Big, intimidating, and puts very big holes in what she hits.

With the ambidexterity quality she fires them alternately each pass (saves having to reload as quickly) while her pool (specialised in Revolvers and enhanced by smartlinks and an adept power) allows her to split her attacks and usually put couple mooks in a world of hurt in the same action.

The Tingler does take a little work to get that accuracy up, but man, it goes to 11. :D  Two shots is a bummer, so just buy two (or more) and avoid reloading during combat.

...though not actually a gun, an Ares Silverlight Pistol Crossbow with Static Shaft S&S bolts is probably the best to stun a target into oblivion: starts at 12 S(e) - 5, and it can hold 4 shots.  Give it a smartlink and custom grip and you can crank the accuracy up to 9 (10 if you use the Enhanced Accuracy: Bows adept power). A little expensive for the ammo  (20 bolts @ 1,000¥) but can be very effective.

Yeah, but with that sucker 1-2 shots is worth an entire clip of APDS in other weapons. And you can load other types of bolts, as well.

yes, but its almost totally silent, which makes it a great assassin's weapon...

(the only sound would be from the string vibrating after a shot, and you wouldn't hear that at all beyond a few feet...)

Note to self: Build some fancy non-sniperrifle assassin NPCs.

IMO, Crossbow and bow assassin builds are too few. Everyone concentrates on the "big boomsticks", forgetting that a silencer only gives a modifier to hear the weapon, and doesn't make it actually silent :P

But the Bow and the Crossbow are silent to start with, can do good damage (especially on a surprise hit!), can be used to deliver a small payload through special heads (great to poison, or explode a target), and when you get right down to it, are no larger then a sniper rifle anyways. And did I mention they can fit many of the nifty mods that your average sniper can handle?

...other than using injection bolts, the DV of the weapon itself is too low to have much of an effect.

Also a "grazing shot" with S&S still scores a "hit" at base damage. The one advantage of bolts over arrows is that there is no "rating" for crossbow bolts. Yeah it's still more expensive than bullets, but the trade off, it is pretty much silent.

I find it an excellent weapon for Neo Tokyo. It's not a firearm and with S&S or Narcojet, does not do lethal damage, but still can take a target "down" pretty quick.

Where it really can get  nasty is when bolts are imbued with preparations (we have an alchemist in our Missions group that does this).

...one other bang bang I've come to like is the Auto Assault 16.  32 round drum and automatic fire makes this a very formidable weapon.  Load it with EXEX Handload slug ammo and the base DV is up there with an assault cannon (16) but in a more "portable form with burst/autofire capability.

Chicago Kid has one outfitted with both an internal smartlink and custom grip as well as full recoil comp mods.  With her adept Enhanced Accuracy power she has an accuracy of 8 with so even a couple net hits can take someone down (she named  it "Red Cloud").

Thematically it's still the Colt Manhunter, 2050s version, 2070s version or otherwise. It may not have quite the bells and whistles, and it's not the Savalette (but then, I kind of wish the Savalette had some situational drawbacks) but damn if it isn't a nice hunk of iron. ever since I first ran into it in the Street Sam Catalogue for SR2, I've liked the looks.

The fact that it's the weapon of choice for Dirk Montgomery (and I have a soft spot for the character and Nigel's work in general) helps too.

I’d second this choice. Cannot beat a classic even if it was overpriced.
The years I played 3rd and before it got reintroduced in sr5 I kept converting it back into the game.
The Colt Manhunter had style, looked massive as a force to be reckoned yet.

Minor note, Crossbow's don't technically have a Rating so minor GM buy in on the max rating Static Shafts needed.  I can see a GM ruling that the Crossbow pistol doesn't have the same kick as a "Trollbow".
Title: Re: My most favoritest gun
Post by: kyoto kid on <01-23-19/0309:40>
...however it is the Static Shaft/S&S combo head that delivers the "punch" not the kinetic energy of the weapon itself.

Bolts don't have rating as the DV of a crossbow is based on the size/type like a firearm, not the character's strength.

...and these bolts are not cheap  10 Static Shaft/S&S bolts are 500¥.  Pretty expensive ammo compared to most bullets (save for Depleted Uranium rounds).

Hammerli Gemini.  Legal with license, concealable enough for any Gunbunny, affordable to boot.  11P (with a Complex Action) -3 AP +1 Concealability, Acc up to 8 w/ Personalized Grip and Smartlink.  1500 Nuyen with Smartlink and Grip, plus whatever you spend on Recoil comp and other bells and whistles.

Or the HK Urban Combat.  No License, but MAD Proof so who cares.  Mind you "Can't accept further Modifications" and "Special Modifications" are kinda contra indicated   :P  RAW it theoretically works as Special Modifications is a quality but YMMV.

I wouldn't go with an unconcealable and Illegal weapon for my Special Modification quality.  One or the other I can work with.

Fichetti Executive Action.

“Manage your danger with Executive Action!”

Light pistol that can Burst Fire and a default ammo capacity of 18 makes it a highly concealable auto-fire weapon that uses the pistol skill.

Base Accuracy of 6, 9 with smartlink and custom grip.

Base 7p damage is better than most machine pistols.

Cheap (only costs $1800 nuyen for rating 6 ceramic components to make it madproof).

Legal.

He’s referring to Special Modifications and Prototype Materials which allows you to change any weapon statistic, including damage type twice, actually three times if you have both qualities.
Each quality costs 5 karma at creation so for a total of 15 karma you can add up 3 damage, 6 accuracy, 400% ammo, 6 reach, -6 concealability etc.

Not sure if that’s worth it or even the 30 karma it would cost later

Post chargen it's admittedly pricey to go all in.  But remember those qualities are restricted to mundanes... so Karma is something they have much more freedom to spend than magicians!

I could see a niche for them in chargen for sure.  You're pushing a gun into performance that if otherwise were available at all, would certainly have a higher availability code than 12.  Of course that's an advantage of that's of temporally limited value... but a lasting advantage would be the ability to take a relatively unremarkable gun and giving it quite remarkable performance.  Maybe you can't get a sniper rifle in to wherever you need to go but you perhaps could get a shotgun.  A shotgun with a sniper rifle's accuracy!  Or a pistol that hits like a rifle.

...and it has to be 30 days after the "dead tree", not the PDF version is released.

Cause we gonna need some ruling on No Future before those qualities go live.

Well given SRM's general stance of "No Crafting" it's not hard to predict what the ruling on qualities that relate to crafting will end up being.

No love for the Colt America L36?  It has the best combo of damage and accuracy in the Light Pistol category.  You can get accuracy up to 10 with a personalized grip and internal smartgun modification.  Or, use ceramic/plasteel components and still have a 8 accuracy (with personalized grip).  All that before adding bonuses from Special Modifications.  Great for a gunslinger adept throwing tons of dice at a foe...

...they did accept Handload Ammunition, assigning a +25% markup to the base ammo price.

No THANK YOU!

I love the Fichetti E.A.

It's my social infiltrator's weapon of choice and modded to hell and back.

Must say after seeing your...enthusiasm for this particular toy, I went back and took another look at it, played about with some loadouts and... you're right, it's really rather fun for a light pistol. May throw a couple into the kit for when characters have to be subtle.

...yeah those qualities sound pretty good, however, I don't believe BtB is legal for Missions yet.

Good News: the FAQ is out so BtB is legal.

Bad News: both Prototype Materials and Special Modifications are disallowed for missions.

...bugger, thank you.  Thought they could have done as with Handload Ammo and assign a set markup for purchasing such weapons.

Or like the Restricted Gear quality, just allow it for one time weapon purchase with a markup in cost.  5 Karma effectively is 10,000¥ (after chargen, 10 = 20,000¥).

Would so love to have an Auto Assault 16 with a 10 accuracy.  Nothin' says lovin' like an auto fire drum fed shotgun.

I've found myself running through ideas for guns that aren't the obvious choices. The vagabond caught my eye, but mechanically it just sits in my "does this gun do enough things well to counteract the fact it's by no means the best at any single one of them" zone. Got to be some use to an SA revolver.
