Tell me whatcha think. I've been working on this guy for several days and have a good idea about who he is, but I still need to write down his backstory and appearance and all that stuff.
In combat hopefully he'll be hard to hit.
-
I'm curious how you came up with you magic attribute. It looks like you bought it to level 5 and you have 2 essence of bioware so that would reduce it to a rating of 3 or am I missing something on the character sheet?

Thanks. You just made me realize I have 10 more points than I thought.
Okay this is how I did it. Let me know if I'm wrong.
I used two points of essence, reducing it to four. Since magic is tied in with essence, my magic can only be increased to 4, Costing me 30 points. Did I miss something? I'm new to Adepts.
Were you talking about the extra 10 BP I had on Attributes? I moved it to Skills.
-
You got the order wrong. You have to buy Magic first, and then reduce it from Essence loss, so to get Magic 4 with 2 points of Essence lost you'd have to buy Magic 6.
-
Actually, it's easier to buy the Magic before the Essence. The maximum of the Magic attribute is equal to his Essence. If you bought four points of Magic, then got the Bioware, it would reduce your Essence to four and reduce your Magic to two. To get a Magic 4 with the Bioware, you'd have to max out your Magic at 6 first, then reduce it by the Essence cost.
Edit: Ninja'd as I was uploading Doc's Kitteh image. ;)
-
Thanks guys. I'll have to sac some skills, but I should be able to fix this.
-

Well, it's fitting that we are in a Ninja's thread ;D
-
There. Fixed. Anything else?
-
Hate to be the rain on your parade, but doesn't Magic 6 cost 65 BP (maximum point costs 25, not 10)?
-
Cryky... How am I gonna get 15 more points off? Athletics can go... for 10, Throwing weapons taken down to 2, and Instruct Specialization removed.
I'm a 399 points, plus knowledge skills. Can I do anything with 1 BP?
-
Boost a connection?
*edit* Oh... doesn't have any...
-
My commlink is a piece of @#$%. Or did you mean Contacts? He doesn't have any right now.
Could I put it in a knowledge skill?
-

Uhm, yeah, contacts. Damn yankee lingo soft glitches...
No, you need two BP for an additional Knowledge Skill Point.
-
Aren't knowledge skill specializations only one BP?
Edit: Damnit.... No. No they are not. This sucks. Is it just wasted BP?
-
Hold on *checks* Indeed you are right, they are 2 BP, too. So yeah, one single BP is pretty useless if you are maxed out on money BP and dont have contacts...
-
2 BP each.
So I guess I have a wasted 1 BP. :-\
Anything else?
-
How much of your 250,000¥ did you actually spend?
-
Every Nuyen
-
Synaptic Booster 2 alone costs a fortune...
No contacts is a pretty rough stand to start with, but if you're ok with it...
-
I don't have a whole lot of choice. I've already stripped him down to what I feel is necessary for him to be the character I want him to start as. Having no contacts is also acceptable in relation to his story and personality.
And yes. My Bioware cost me an arm and a leg. That's why it looks like my gear is modest, but I've spent 250,000
-
Does it have to be BP gen?
-
You can always get 5,000¥ more resources for one point. That could be gear, or even gives you one more month of Middle Lifestyle.

He's already maxed out on money points.

What do you mean?

If you can get your hands on the Runners Companion you could try out Karma Gen, it tends to bring out more... well rounded characters.
-
I'll check it out. Is it the kinda thing where I would need GM permission? I don't want to make so him that some GMs wont let me use him.
Edit: I don't know. It looks really complicated and time-consuming. This character is supposed to be pretty specialized. He's just a little underdeveloped outside of combat right now. Mostly because of the cost of being a Magic-user AND having Bioware. The first Karma I earn will start to remedy that.
-
Karma Gen lets you spend more than BP Gen, so yeah, your GM would have to aprove (depends a lot on the char you are making, but most of the time you get a character worth 500 to 550 BP).

Yeah, this guy is 400. If I made him 500 then I wouldn't have any problems with BP. :)
He's probly for the play-by-post section of the forums, so making him standard, since I don't know what game or GM he will be involved with, is probably a good idea.
Might be writing some short fiction about him too.
(I don't have people to play with where I live.)
-
Most people I know tend to use Karma Gen, because it gives you better flexibility in creating characters. If you use it, be sure to get the errata (attributes cost x5, not x3).
-
Just a heads up, but you might also wanna know that Ronin (as a street name) has been established in canon material with a character (one of Kensons, I think?) that's showed up in at least one novel and sourcebook.
It's always been a name that makes sense for a Shadowrun character (given the Japanese culture-baggage in the game, and the meaning of the word), but if you find a GM that's particularly knowledgeable of existing NPC types, he might have some fun with a few misunderstandings when folks hear you go by Ronin, etc, etc.
-
It suits him so well. Damn. Well thanks for the heads up. I'll see if I can find anything else.
-
Just add something. Like... Black Ronin, or something like that :)
-
A good suggestion. Can't use Red Ronin though, for obvious reasons. Gonna take me a while to think of something I'm happy with.
-
Shadow Ronin?
-
Actually, Ronin was Michael Bishop, the Protagonist of Tower of Babel. During the Renraku Arcology situation, his 'personality', along with Maegera/Morgan was absorbed into Deus. Deus then scattered his pieces throughout his drones. Ronin and Maegera were able to 'turn' some of Deus' agents. During Crash 2.0, Maegera and Ronin were able to break free from Deus, helping to stop his plans. After the crash, all three are gone.
-
Well if that's someone who is well known I guess I really do need to change.
Some name ideas:
Red Shadow
Guardian
Red Dragon
Saber
Warrior
Kami
Hellion
None of them are as good as Ronin, I think. If you have suggestions or opinions I wouldn't mind hearing them.
-
Shadow Warrior comes to mind

Said character would never live down the quotes from Shadow Warrior (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0234704/quotes) at our table...
-

Well, no. You don't need to do anything. If you like the name, you like the name.

Exactly, just because *that* Ronin existed doesn't mean that there aren't twenty other Street Sams calling themselves Ronin as well. In fact, you could have some fun with it, by getting the reputations confused. You might get a call on a hacking job (Ronin was modified by Deus to be the first Otaku over 18), or something similar.
-
Right. I mean, it's not a "grrr, no, you can't do that!" sort of situation. I just brought it up as something to be aware of, is all. It could be something that resolves itself in-game, even. Heck, anyone else remember the Sticks/Styx silliness?
-
Oh ghosts, I got Jack Daniels stocks up by 2 bucks just to get over that...
-
But is this other Ronin really well known?
-
But is this other Ronin really well known?
On Shadowland, yes. But he might not be as well known to Fixers.
For example, I'm sure (almost) everyone here knows Bruce Campbell and can name at least three movies he's been in. But if you go to producers of blockbuster hits for the studios, they might say Bruce who? (Lamentable, but true...)
-
Evil Dead
Evil Dead 2
Army of Darkness
Sure, I see your point. I'm a sucker for originality anyways ...At least as much originality as you can find in a codename these days. I'll probly end up going with something not used by famous characters. Lol
Doc Chaos, if I had to play with someone like Shadow Warrior I would go insane.
-
Somewhere out there must be a table for streep rep penalties for certain nicknames, starting with everything that has "Shadow" in it ;) And honestly, there must be at least several dozen runners out there calling themselves "Ronin", as it's pretty obvious.

Yeah... if only there were a list or something of all the known handles used on Shadowland/Jackpoint.
That'd be really cool. (http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=58.0)
(And yes, I'm still in the process of the next update. It's worth it though.)
