Ever since Kill Code came out, I´m trying to come up with additional Technomancer Streams, using the existing ones as benchmarks. So far, I have general ideas for four resonant and two dissonant Streams that seem promising to offer an unique perspective to the Matrix and can serve as vehicles for interesting perks as well. The two dissonant Streams have been fleshed out the most, while the resonant streams are still in early construction. Funny how the nasty stuff tends to be more intriguing  ::)

Albeit not finished, I´ll post my humble efforts here, open for criticism and suggestions. I will try to complete them in the next couple of days ;D

Edit: Split the Streams into several replies, for shameless self-bumping better editing.

Redactors
Type: Dissonant How dare you?! This is Fake News! We are putting our live on the line to make the Matrix better for everyone!
Themes: Censorship, Filterbubbles, Iconoclasm
Description: Hate Speech. Degeneracy. Haram. Anarcho-Communist Propaganda. Dogwhistling. Fake News. Anti-Christian. Insensitive. Krypto-Fashist. Satanic. Unhealthy. Oppressive. Hurtfull. Filthy. Racist. Sexist. Bad Influence. Smut. Subversive. Violent.  Redactors have a a lot of different Buzzwords for “Stuff I don´t like”, and they will go out of their way to ensure that the Matrix gets cleaned up from it so that no one ever gets hurt anymore. Their causes of contempt are highly variable: For some Redactors, they may lean up with various socio-political agendas of all shades and levels of extremism, while others wage private wars against (sometimes weirdly specific) pet peeves, from Gay Troll Porn to violent trideo games, from a certain common grammatical error to the concept of using cilantro as a spice. Even if his/her aims seem harmless or benevolent at first, you can be sure a Redactor will find a way to overdo it, either in the means to pursue their goals or in their ever-expanding definition of inacceptable content. Despite their irrational zeal, most Redactors have an eerie talent to infiltrate social groups and slowly convince others to aid them in their conquests. Both Machiavelists and Narcissists at their core, they will often try to seize control over data hosts and chatrooms so that they can rule as powertripping Mods in their own personal bubble. Worse things might happen when they successfully climb the ladders of the cons or politics: If they can, they will try to censor reality itself, with catastrophic consequences.
Benefits: All Complex forms that affect Files are performed at a Fading Value of 2 less than normal. Redactors also receive +1 for tests in the Influence Skill Group.
Deamon: Resonance Fork: By spending an additional Free Action, Redactors can choose to affect multiple files or Devices with the same single-target Complex Form, up to Submersion Grade/2 (round up) additional targets beyond the first. For each additional target, the Fading of the Complex Form is increased by one. For sustained Complex Forms, treat the targets as being affected by a separate Complex Form each after the effect takes place. If used with the Editor Complex Form, the Redactor can also use this Deamon to make identical, Search-and-Replace like Edits to multiple Files, f.i. to censor all instances of an undesired word or image in them (Or they can simply delete them: Some Redactors are less subtle than others).
Complex Form: Shadowban. Target: File. Fading: Level -2. A more subtle alternative to deleting or censoring adverse content, this Complex Form attaches a resonant Coroutine to a file that simply makes it harder to find in the Matrix. Make a Software+Resonance[Level] VS Data Processing + Intuition of the File´s owner. The Net Hits are added to the threshold of Matrix Search Tests to find the affected File. The effect lasts for [Level] days after the next attempt by a persona to directly interact with the file in the Matrix - or forever, if the file is successfully "forgotten" because of this Complex Form.

(So yeah, basically the reddit jannie paragon  ::))

Zenobytes:
Type: Dissonant AF
Themes: Depravity, Decadence, Hedonism, Sadism
Description: Widely percieved as the most corrupted and warped even by other dissonant Technomancers, Zenobytes are the embodiment of the most extreme and immoral stimuli the Matrix has to offer: From bizarre and violent Fetishes up to Black BTLs, from Pedophilia to full-blown Snuff Pornography - Zenobytes are always on the hunt to up the ante on their own depravity. Out on their personal quest to push their physical and moral boundaries further and further, they rarely stay passive consumers, but will soon start to create and disseminate their own footage, both in the physical world and in the Matrix. In their own warped sense of “empathy”, they will also seek to subject themselves to the delicate agony they love to witness and in inflict in others, and in a form of quasi-religious apotheosis, many Zenobytes will also actively seek out, recruit and “enlighten” likeminded individuals.
Benefits: All Complex forms that affect sentient Personas are performed at a Fading Value of 2 less than normal. Zenobytes also recieve +2 dice  for Intimidation Skill Tests.
Deamon: Down the Abyss. The further Zenobytes delve into the depths of metahuman depravity and suffering, the more desensitized they become, until pain, fear and disgust are nothing more than vaguely delightfull experiences to them. They gain their Submersion Grade as Levels of the Pain Resistance Quality and also add the same number as Bonus dice to Composure Tests.
Complex Form: Snuff Surge. Target: Persona. Fading: Level. This Complex Form blast the Target with a jolt of abhorrent visuals, sounds and other stimuli puzzled together from all the footage the Zenobyte has consumed. Make Software + Resonance [Level] VS Willpower + Firewall test. If at least one net Hit is achieved, the target next has to make a Composure Test, with the Net Hits of the Complex Form as Threshold. The Threshold is further adjusted as follows: +1 if the target uses Cold VR or DNI-based AR, +2 for Hot VR, -1 for non-sapient targets, -1 for Artificial Intelligences and Sprites. Failing the Composure Test decreases the targets Willpower Attribute by an amount equal to the missing Hits for [Level] Minutes. Note that this affects all Tests using the Willpower Attribute, including Matrix Tests and further Composure Tests. If the Willpower Attribute is decreased to 0 or below, the target becomes catatonic for the duration of the effect. The effects of multiple Snuff Surges are not cumulative, only the highest penalty applies (However, it is a viable strategy to abuse the decreased mental defenses of the target for additional attacks). On a glitch, the duration becomes [Level] Hours, while on a critical glitch, additional long-lasting psychological traumata (f.i. flashbacks, shaky hands, phobias...) may arise.

Note: Group-oriented Zenobytes sometimes use Snuff Surge as recruitment tool for their twisted cause: At the Gamemaster´s discretion, targets with violent, psychopathic, and/or extreme sadomasochistic tendencies (be they open or surpressed), will instead feel a sinister fascination and lust for more instead of the Nausea effect. Likewise, the experience may trigger violent mental states, like the rage of a bear shaman.

Dreamscapers
Type: Resonant
Themes: VR, Sleep, Dreaming, Subconscious, Escapism
Description: Dreamscapers perceive the Matrix as constant, digital dream landscape and try to embrace that aspect of it to the fullest. This enables them to form a deeper subconscious connection with the VR protocolls of the Matrix, up to the point where the Dreamscapers can literally surf the Matrix in their sleep. While other Deckers and Technomancers mostly use VR as a temporary tool to gain a little Edge for their illegal activities, Dreamscapers often spend a large amount of their waking and sleeping time submerged in VR. In addition to their high affinity to VR usage, Dreamscapers have also developed a high proficiency for understanding the Dream Logic inside the Foundation, as well as a mastery in certain non-lethal Biofeedback algorithms that enable them to secretly put VR-enabled opposition to sleep.
Benefits: Dreamscapers get the +2 Dice Pool Bonus for being in Hot-Sim VR for Resonance Actions and Resistance Test against Fading as well.
Deamon: Deep Dream Algorithms. Dreamscapers get their Submersion Grade/2 (round up) as a positive dice pool modifier to perform Foundation Actions. Also, while in VR, Dreamscapers may spend a Minute of Meditation to fall into a more deeply immersed, dreamlike state. While they appear to be fully asleep for real-life onlookers, and while their neurological patterns are virtually indistinguishable from normal sleepers, their living persona stays conscious and active inside the Matrix. Treat this Dream-VR like standard Hot-Sim VR, but with the following differences:
  • Initiative Score equals Intuition+Data Processing + 2D6
  • Like in Cold-Sim-VR, all sources of Biofeedback Damage are redirected to the Stun Monitor.
  • However, once the Stun Monitor is filled up by any source, including Matrix Damage and Fading, the excess damage is transferred to the Physical Condition Monitor (or to the Overflow Monitor, if the physical Monitor is filled as well)
  • While in Dream-VR, Dreamscapers suffer no penalties from their Stun Monitor. They can also continue to operate inside the Matrix even if their Stun Monitor is filled - while physically unconscious, their resonant minds stay active.
  • The enhanced subconscious connection to the Matrix also makes it easier for the Dreamscaper to stay under the radar: While in Dream VR, the OS does not increase over time.
  • Dreamscapers leave this state by changing their interface mode or jacking out, by losing their connection to the Matrix or when going into physical Overflow. When they do, they will fall into normal metahuman slumber, until they get at least enough sleep to clear up their Stun Monitor.
  • When falling unconscious or when sleeping, Dreamscapers may spend a point of Edge to enter the Dream-VR mode and "re-awaken" inside the Matrix.
Complex Form: Nirvana. Target: VR-Enabled Persona. Fading: Level -2. This Complex Form uses a unique mixture of psychotropic biofeedback to soothe the minds of its victims and ultimately putting them to sleep. Make a Software + Resonance[Level] VS Willpower + Firewall Test against the target. The Net Hits are applied to the Stun Condition Monitor as Biofeedback Damage at the end of the current Combat round. Unlike other forms of Biofeedback, this Complex Form is quite subtle, so the target might not be aware of the attack until it is too late. The target may notice the increase in sleepiness with a successfull Perception + Intuition-Test, with the Hits of the Complex Form as a threshold. Biomonitors will notice the increased sleepiness as well, but will usually not be able to connect it to psychotropic VR effects.

Nytemares
Type: Dissonant
Themes: Nightmares, Disturbing Images
Description: The Nytemares are the corrupted brothers and sisters of the Dreamscapers. They are quite similar to their resonant counterparts, but share a twisted and nightmarish vision of the Matrix Iconography and often use their proficiency to understand and alter the foundation to reshape hosts and sometimes whole grids to fit their disturbing ideas. While their motivations are not entirely the same as those of the Zenobytes, they are easily confounded. They also tend to get along pretty well: It´s not uncommon for a coven of Zenobytes to welcome a few Nytmares as the "interior designers" for their digital pleasure dens.
Benefits: Same as the Dreamscapers
Deamon: Deep Dream Algorithms, same as the Dreamscapers
Complex Form: Snuff Surge, same as the Zenobytes

Networkers
Type: Resonant
Themes: Socializing, Networking, Connections
Description: It´s all about the right connections for these Technomancers: Networkers are Masters of Social Engineering as well as Masters of the Matrix, although many Networkers would argue that there is, in fact, no difference between the two spheres. For a Networker, hacking into a high-value host is the same a s sleazing yourself into a dinner party full of valuable new businnes partners - and vice versa. A familiar pat on the shoulder, a smile and a wink, and you´re in, like you were always part of the in-group.
Benefits: -2 Fading for Compiling Courier and Infiltration Sprites, +1 to Skills in the Influence Skill Group.
Deamon: The Social Network: As the Networkers expand their personal social cirkle, they also slowly expand the social reach of their own contacts by subconsciosly manipulating the data flow and "social connectivity" of the individuals in question. Your backyard Hardware Broker slowly turns into an insider tip for the lokal decker scene, the bars you frequent see a sudden influx in customers, even your fixer starts wondering since when he has so many assets to choose from. Increase the connection rating for all of your Connections by your Submersion Grade/2 (round up). At the Gamemasters discretion, certain extremely tech-averse and reclusive contacts may be immune to this effect.
Complex Form: Forced Handshake. Target: Host or Persona. Instant. Fading: Level -2. Sometimes, you have to use a little force to gain new "friends". Perform a Software+Resonance[Level]-Test against the targets Intuition+Firewall. If you beat the target, you get a Mark on it and your target gets a Mark on you. This also means that you will be instantly visible to the target in the Matrix, however, the Handshake is still sneaky enough to not make the target instantly notice that they have a new "friend". Hosts, IC, Agents and other non-sentient targets will accept the process without questioning, while sentient targets can notice their new Mark popping up with a Matrix Perception Test against your Sleaze Rating or when having the Diagnostics App running. Even then, they will not automatically spot the Mark you have placed on them with this Complex Form and will likely stay unalerted, especially if they have a huge number of active and pending subscriptions to monitor. You can only acquire one Mark per target by using the Forced Handshake. For more Marks, you still have to use the usual Matrix Actions.

Cyberlinguists
Type: Resonant
Themes: Language, Narration, Poetics
Description: For Cyberlinguists, everything in the Matrix boils down to language, to a point where they start to see the Virtual World as a the millions of lines of Code and Text that are openly hidden (oh, how they love them wordplays...) behind the visual metaphor. Navigating "The Narrative", as some Cyberlinguists like to call the Matrix, is a process of reading and deconstructing the walls of text and inserting yourself into the story. When a normal Matrix user is searching for a hidden Icon, a Cyberlinguist "reads between the lines" for a hidden meaning, and when a Hackers looks for a flaw in a Firewall, Cyberlinguists look for a contradiction in a finely crafted argument.
Benefits: -2 Fading on Compiling Data and Courier Sprites, +2 to any Language Skill Test.
Deamon: Semantic Web: While connected to the Matrix, Cyberlinguists gain the benefits of a Skilljack with a Rating equal to their Submersion Grade that can run Linguasofts only. Because of their deepened understanding of the hidden semantics behind the facade of the Matrix, they also get a Bonus to Matrix Perception Test equal to their Submersion Grade/2 (round up)
Complex Form: 4th Wall Breaker. Target: Special. Fading: Level -1. The effects of this Complex Form are somewhat similar to Puppeteer (Core rules, p. 242), but with a signifcant twist in the means of transfering the command: Instead of issuing it wirelessly, the Cyberlinguist instead rapidly verbalizes the resonant Code, often in a way that seems physically impossible, directly targetting and subverting audio processing of a specific target that can hear the command. This may include any devices with language control as well as Cybereears and Drones with active Microphones. Note that the target doesn´t have to be connected to the Matrix to receive the command - it´s sufficient if the Technomancer is connected to the Matrix and has spotted the device either in the Matrix or in Meatspace to target it with this Complex Form. Generally, only one device can be targetted by this complex form at the same time, but at the Gamemaster´s discretion, it may affect additional, identical targets at a cost of +1 Fading for every additional device. Devices Target´s also don´t profit from PAN protection when defending against this Complex Form.

Work in Progress

BIOSpheres
Type: Resonant (but almost radically)
Themes: Trans-Environmentalism, Holism, Biology
Description: The more "wholesome" brothers and sisters of the Technoadepts. BIOSpheres see the Emergence of Technomancy and the Resonance Realms as a first step towards a grand Singularity of all living things.  They are especially fascinated with Technocritters, and often keep them as companions.
Benefits: All Complex forms that affect Living Personas are performed at a Fading Value of 2 less than normal.  BIOSpheres also get 1 bonus die for using Skills in the Biotech Skill group and don´t suffer the usual -2 modifier when using these skills on resonant beings.
Deamon: Bioelectric Aura: Gain the Technosense Quality (Run Faster, p.114), as well as a dice pool bonus of Submersion Grade/2 (round up) for using the Technosense and for Animal Handling Tests.
Complex Form: Bonding with a Technocritter, similar to Animal Companions  for Adepts

Got a recommendation for the Cyberlinguists:
Break the language barrier: When operating in AR or VR, a Cyberlinguist can either thread a linguasoft or add half of their Resonance score to an active linguasoft or language skill (rounded up)
Note that this does not automatically identify the language, requiring a guess on the language used.

+2 for figuring out wordplay or metaphors.
+2 Etiquette when operating in AR or VR.

Good ideas here! I´d like to think that understanding wordplays and metaphors is linked to the corresponding language skills anyway, so I decided to go for a flat bonus to language skill test. Etiquette seems fitting, but I´m more inclined to save this kind of bonus for the Networker stream. Being better in different Laqnguages is already a kind of indirect bonus to social skills, and I don´t want to emphasize this aspect too much for the Cyberlinguists.

I like the idea of having a Complex Form for threading linguasofts. Maybe I can find a way to swap the ideas for the Daemon and the Complex Form...

Here's an idea for Networkers:

Benefits:
+2 Matrix search for individuals and reduce search time by half
+2 Etiquette

Deamon:
A friend of a friend:
If both you and a friend have the same contact, you can temporarily add to their Loyalty up to your Submersion Grade or the lowest Loyalty score, whichever is lower.

Complex form:
A friend in need is a friend indeed.
Fading: L-2
With this, you can hear when a contact needs help. You can get a quick glance at the situation before deciding if you want to jump in. If you do decide to get involved, you will be pointed in the direction.

Funny, I was also thinking about Modifying Connection ratings for the Daemon Perk, althoug I´d rather go with the Connection rating instead of Loyalty and a more simplified effect here. Wasn´t sure if this fitting, but the fact that you also came up with it might be sign that it´s a good idea after all  ;D

Not yet sure about the Complex Form, though. The Networkers are supposed to be the most social stream, but I also want them to have a perk that appeals to general hacking as well. Hmmm, I think I got something...

Dreamscapers

Themes: VR, Dreaming, Escapism
Description: Dreamscapers perceive the Matrix as constant, digital dream landscape and try to embrace that aspect of it to the fullest.
Benefits:  -2 Fading when in VR, gain the +2 Dice Pool Bonus for Hot-Sim VR on Resonance Actions as well.
Deamon: Deep Dream. Can use VR while sleeping or unconscious, Bonus in Foundations.
Complex Form: ?

My first thought about the Dreamscapers was that they somehow were connected to the One Hundred in one form or another, so they interpret the new Matrix very much exactly like the One Hundred formed it. So my idea for the Complex Form would be like a stronger Resonance Veil. Instead of letting "the target believe something has happened" in the Matrix, something actually happened. The Fade would be fairly high, of course, and with that you could i.e. have a device lose it's wireless functions, have a car accelerate past GridGuide guidelines, because for this device they have been changed or something like that.

I dunno, just the first thought that crossed my mind.

Antiquarians-
Interested and adept at using analog computational tech.

Basically, they use their matrix prowess to scour archival data to use and understand non-matrix enabled devices.

I just like the idea of more of a steampunk technomancer, who gets excited about junk heaps and finding old-type writers, player pianos, and animatronic puppets...

Manatechnicians -
Secret and extra risky to play, technomancers that have ways probabilistly understanding some magical phenomena. Perhaps an echo to get Astral perception that uses Computer and Resonance but gives a bigger penalty to doing anything when astral perceivng (-4 or -6 instead of -2). Can get a good sense of background count based on scouring data about reports about it. Bonuses to Arcana. And the kicker, can learn a way to lower (at least temporarily or sustained) object resistance! (great for partnering with their enchanter pals).

Futurists:
Basically technomancer diviners and perhaps luck manipulators. They analyze predictive data in Resonance algorithms to make informed predictions with great confidence.
Can get an echo that functions similar to the magic version of Divining, but uses different attributes/skills (something like an Intuition + Software test (with a base threshold) set the limit of a divining test and Resonance + Computer test make the actual prediction).
Machine sprites of this techno gets bonuses to Gremlins and Stability.
Can make an Edge + Resonance as a complex action for edge bonuses that last longer, at the cost of longer lasting negatives for a glitch/crit glitch.

Oooouh, a Stream based on a deeper connections to the One Hundred seems very intriguing   8)

That wasn´t exactly my "vision" for the Dreamscapers though. These are just meant to be Technomancers with an higher emphasis on VR usage and doing things literally "in their sleep". While deeper immersion in the Matrix might bring you closer to the One Hundred than other Technomancers, I think that there should be an even deeper layer for their actual followers. I´m thinking of a kind of advanced Stream (dissonant, resonant or something entirely different?) that is reserved for an elite group of "Apostles" to which the One Hundred reach out. Flair-wise, imagine the Technomancer Version of Occultist mediums here: Standing around with empty eyes while listening to their whispers, preaching their word, channeling their powers "from beyond"...  :P

Besides your reality-altering CF, Perks could include:

  • Improved Interaction with E-Ghosts, Monads and other "dead souls" in the Matrix
  • Better understanding into the fabric of the Matrix -> Matrix Perception Bonuses
  • Higher OS Threshould

Oooh, sounds awesome. You would only get access to it, if you were to prove yourself in the eyes of the One Hundred, so that they would grant part of their power in exchange for "survitude"? Something along those lines? Maybe even a shift in the personality of the Techno, which would provide some fun RP opportunites. :D
