Sooo many choices....
I guess it depends on the character. With that said...
I'm a huge fan of Bayonets, Additional Magazine and Melee Hardening.
-
I like the Ares Predator CW - particularly if you take the suggested errata of including the RC from Electronic Firing. It's basically a Predator IV with 1100 nuyen worth of mods, and still has 6 mod slots.
For sheer breathtaking stupidity, dual wielding monowhips in fingertip compartments. On cyber arms. Gecko tips on the monowhip weights.
-
AK-97, kill every motherslotter in the room except you, accept no substitutes!
And works great for the 'Runner on a budget! ;D
AKS-97U (AK-97 Carbine) if you want something a little bit more manageable in a cityscape to hide under your lined coat. ;)
-
I find that just about every character I make has a Ruger Thunderbolt. Dunno that anything else is so concealable, with so much punch, can be modded to be completely recoil free too.
-
why do you have red-dot AND a smartgun system? I'm pretty sure they're not compatible. :/

You can't have a laser sight but you can have a red dot
-
Well you certainly can't have the foregrip. Under-barrel weapons preclude the use of under-barrel recoil assisting accessories or mods. Pg 153 Arsenal.
A question I always ask when these threads pop up is how do you get away with packing forbidden weapons? Do you keep it stashed in the car until you need it or what? Especially something like the alpha, which is the opposite of concealable.
Anyway, my favourite loadout is an HK-227X with gas-vent 3, personalized grip, extended magazine, sling and an auto adjusting under-barrel weight and a top mounted low-light flashlight. I like to use a heavy pistol that can be modded for easy breakdown as an every day carry. Doesn't really matter much which one as they are all pretty much the same.
-
Anything with the Izom Aphrodite. Tactical grenade launcher, SMG, it's the perfect assault weapon! Smartlink it, run with it.
-
In addition to the foregrip thing, Hip-pads are for Heavy Weapons only.
As for favourite weapons setups it depends entirely on the character I'm putting together. Most, if not all, of the games I play in either disallow or heavily nerf stick-n-shock ammo, so my choices reflect this. Unless the character actively avoids combat he/she will usually have two or three pistols for various purposes and one or two other weapons like a SMG or shotgun or something. Usually at least one of the weapons is purely a stylistic choice, like having an Ares Executive Protector or a pump action shotgun with Custom Look.

Seconded. That gun is badass.
I have always felt that a SMG with underbarrel shotgun would be a nice addition to the shadowrunner's arsenal. Shock-lock rounds to open doors, full auto to down whatever's on the other side, and more compact than an assault rifle (though there are no rules for weapon bulk. Maybe there should be?)
-
Most of my characters are mages, so I usually have a Predator IV with Skinlink and a silencer as my main gun. If the situtation calls for it, I carry a skinlinked Ingram as well. I also carry a Morissey Elan for Meet-n-Greets. I always have a knife or two on me. I don't like looking like a mage or being as squishy. I tend to live longer since most thugs see the Ingram and don't think Mage very often. I leave the heavy weapons for the runners who can get the most out of them because if I am using a gun, it is because I am hiding the magic or the drek has hit the fan.

In the day and age of battery powered, inte-err-Matrix connected, caseless electronic fired guns there's something I like about a big old revolver.
Take a Ruger Super Warhawk, give it a firing selection change to go semi-auto, and slap a personalized grip and laser sight on that mofo. Less than a grand for something that can easily serve as a primary weapon for a secondary combatant like your local face, hacker, or mage. No smartlink means not having to worry about someone detecting it's node or hacking it to turn the safety on. Street legal with the appropriate license. As long as you have enough dice to hit you don't have to worry about aimed shots or compensating burstfire recoil.
Simple, efficient, cheap, powerful.
My other fave is the Praetor. Get the version with electronic firing, mod it with gas vent 3 and a suppressor, and top mount a smartgun system. You've got a smexy stealthy little gun with 5 recoil comp that won't be running out of ammo any time soon.
-
Have to say, I love my machine pistols as a side arm for anyone with the automatics skill.
I like the powered folding stock, personalised grip, smartgun, skinlink setup. Leaves plenty of slots free for flavouring.
Very concealable, legal and the BF/FA makes it a nice platform for getting a lot of specialist ammo downrange quickly.
Super warhawk with magnifying scope + laser has made a few appearances on low BP characters too. Take aim, fire. Take aim, fire: two bloody huge holes in something :-)

I love the Warhawk too. I roll a similar setup, but with Smartgun and Skinlink for most characters. To make it even more impressive looking, I add the Increased Cylinder mod as well. Even with the Smartgun it doesn't go above 6R, which means with a good fake licence you can openly carry it.

Does he know "drunken boxing Kung-Fu"? ;)

Maybe. Certainly knows "Drunken Wageslave Info Pumping". ;)

Vehicles. Ideally stolen ones, because you avoid the pain of knocking out those dents and getting rid of those bulletholes.

When the going gets tough, use an armored car as a weapon. ;D

Hate to say it, but I think the Red Dot sight and the smart link are probably incompatible due to the fact that in the write up for the Red Dot sight it is listed as "Vintage" and that it was the Precursor to the smartlink system... which means it falls into the realm of GM fait. If you GM says you can do it, fly at it.

SR4 would have to be my current primary:
Ruger Super Warhawk
+Internal Smartgun system
+Ammo skip system
+Improved Range Finder (as soon as I have the cash to fit it)
+Increased Cylinder
+Fire Selection SA
+Personalised Grip
Loaded with 4 SnS, 2 APDS, 2 Ex-Ex
3 speed loaders tricked out with 8 SnS, 8 APDS, 8 Ex-Ex (make sure you know which is which).

Q: I'm just getting back into Shadowrun after about a decade hiatus, so be gentle. ; )
I saw these mods (and drooled) posted and was curious if they are options for SR5.
Colt Government 2066 x2
+Smartgun System, Internal
+Chameleon Coating
+Electronic Firing
+Silencer
+Skinlink
Really interested in the Chameleon Coating and the Skinlink.
Thanks!
-
The gun mods for SR5 will likely be in the forthcoming Run and Gun supplement. Smartgun and silencer are in the base book but the others aren't.
I personally wouldn't expect Skinlink to return.
-
Thanks for your help, Crunch! This is my first time coming into a system as it's transitioning into the next. Looking forward to all the new toys in Run and Gun!!!
-
It should be fun. The accuracy mechanic for SR5 gives an additonal opportunity for meaningful differences between guns. The buff to Single Shot also means that more off the guns included will be viable options mechanically.
Honestly I'm more excited for Run and Gun than I've been for a gun book since the Street Samurai Catalog for first edition.
If we can ger Run and Gun, Run Faster (the "players guide" that got bumped back on the release list), whatever they call the Rigger Book and the Magic book out by the end of '14 I would be really happy.
-
Ditto!
-
The best gun accessory in the new edition is APDS, now available at character generation. Agree with Crunch though, the Accuracy mechanic was a great addition to the game, giving more depth to weapon choices now.
-
i honestly love the fichetti 300. 30 round clip, built in recoil and laser sight. stick a scope (+low light/thermo etc) on it and gas vent 3 and load it with APDS. golden, cheap, accurate, concealable and powerful; whats not to love?

All of this is 4E, for the record. For my character, a hulking troll ex-black ops specialist, we has two main weapons. Don't have my character sheet on me(I'm at work), so I'll just post the general stats, not the specifics.
Regular carry is a Svalette Guardian, heavily modified with a silencer, High-power Chambering, couple other mods I forget, and a quick-draw holster. He has a license for it tied to his fake SIN(Bounty Hunter) so he can carry it everywhere. Makes enough of a crater that it keeps most trouble away.
Second weapon, and the one he uses exclusively for assassination, wetwork, and assaults, is a really heavily modified Onotari Urban Hunter called E.R.I.C.A.(Extreme Response, Interdiction, and Combat Asset). Gas Vent 2, shock pad, SmartGun(Internal), Underbarrel Grenade Launcher with Airburst Link, bayonet mount, High-Cal Chambering, Manual Easy Breakdown, and an attacheable(read not internal) bipod and silencer for sniping mode. Basically it does almost as much damage as an assault cannon, has long-rifle ranges, and he can set it up for either assault-mode or for sniping from a distance.
As to the earlier question of how people transport their weapon, the pistol is only a Restricted item, so the license covers that. Plus he has a Lined Coat to hide any additional small goodies. The battle-rifle is breaks down after a job and he has a special, really-heavily shielded(radar, wifi, airtight, etc) hidden compartment in his bike that conceals it when not in use. Basically since it's massively illegal he only uses it for activities that are also massively illegal.
But boy does it splatter people when he needs it to.

A newbe question: Doesn't the foregrip mean that you have 2 use two hands? This question assumes that two were bought to use at the same time and one isn't a backup in case of jams.
I am going to get those knives!
-
2 hands in most situations, with the possibility to use both those guns simultaneously.
They are capable of sustaining IIRC 7 shots each without RC penalty, which means firing them both 5+3 burst with only -2 dices.
Or one in 2 hands without RC modificator
