Not exactly the "best Shadowrun", but it's worth noting that the plot of Die Hard is basically a C.L.U.E. casefile (meaning "a shadowrun that went horribly wrong for the runners because they did something incredibly stupid") that included a very lucky NPC. If I remember the movie correctly, the fatally foolish error made by Hans Gruber and company was assuming that they'd killed McClane instead of confirming their kill.
I also like to think of it as an example of why it's pointless to go full Black Trenchcoat and why you should always be ready to go Pink Mohawk; for all Gruber's detailed plotting, his plan was ruined by one thing that he didn't see coming. Sure, you might say "So what? If he'd just done a truly ludicrous amount of legwork he could've seen it coming and prepared accordingly!" You'd be right, but you'd also be missing the point entirely. He thought he'd done enough legwork, but "enough legwork" and "enough planning" are delusions brought on by the arrogance of players. No matter how much you plan, the GM can always throw an unexpected curveball at you, and when that happens all that will matter is how well you can improvise and react. And you know what else? If your GM has a brain, a spine, and good taste, they're never going to let you just waltz through the main event of a run no matter what you do for legwork.....unless they're setting you up for something horrible, but that's a different kettle of fish. What I'm getting at here is that beyond a certain point, planning and legwork are futile; shit will hit the fan and full-auto APDS from an assault rifle will be the best solution, so abandon any delusions you have that it won't turn out that way.
