Intermodal container apartments. I could see these being quite the trend especially in more run down areas, or at least very low rent neighborhoods.

There was a push over here to have them as student and low-income accommodation - I've probably lived in worse places.

they use containers ( 20ft, i think) to make housing for Soldiers on bases in A country the US is deployed to. 4 high and tan, then coated in spray on insulation. so pretty.

My dad lived in something like this for 6 months in the Chilean desert, with a 55 gallon drum for an out house (that was it no actual house around it).

I have never understood why anyone would use commercial steel shipping containers for any sort of long term housing.

They are made of the absolute cheapest crap steel the manufacturer can find. As such they don't last. Most are only expected to survive a few trips on a container ship before being scrapped and melted down.
