Where can I get that free preview?  I found the quick start rules but not anything else.

William Gibson, author of Neuromancer, which started the whole Cyberpunk genre.
JRR Tolkien wrote the Lord or the Ring Trilogy

Oh I get it lol. I know who Tolkien is!  I'd have to be under a rock to not know lol

So would the general community recommend this then?  Also, can anyone explain what normal gameplay may look like?  Be as detailed as possible if you can :)

Can I recommend that you take a look at the play by post forum here? There are a handful of SR5 games going, and they can be pretty illuminating.

Aliens, alpha centauri, obsession with voodoo, AI as Loa. No one is innocent.
There's always one PC who just can't go with the flow.  They have to have something that sets them apart.  Something blatantly obvious to everyone who plays with them.

Looking around on the forums, I notice quite a few games online.  Does Shadowrun lend itself more to being played online or is it equally played at a physical location too?

Dumb question, probably  8)

It's actually not a particularly online friendly system, we're just a dedicated lot.

In my opinion its much better as a tabletop game.

Fair enough, thanks a lot!  Why doesn't it make a very good tabletop game though?  Just curious.

I was saying it DOES make a good tabletop game actually.

The issue it runs into online is that there's a lot of resisted rolling. In an asynchronous (like a play by post game) environment that can result in a lot of stretch, whereas at a table it's relatively quick.

That was a typo.  I meant why wasn't it a good online game, which you just answered :P

Honestly? Don't. Get the free Preview Omnibus and Quickstarter rules, and play the free Quickstarter adventure. Then see if you like the dynamics it provides.
Way to go Michael! Now CGL is going to go under, because you lost this one sale. It'll have a domino effect causing the entire  world economy to collapse and sending us back to the stone age. All because you couldn't seal the deal...

But that is good advice.

He just didn't go with the hard sell, he's slowly reeling him in.

I know there's been some post around but maybe a few suggestions for movies and TV shows to watch that can give a vague idea of what the game world is like, similar to how LOTR would portray an epic Pathfinder/D&D game.

Johnny Nmeonic is one that is always brought up I know.

Leverage can show how a team of varried talents similar to a team in shadowrun can work together.

There's plenty more I know I'm just drawing a blank right now.
