The rules I'm referring to can be found on Pages 137-138 of Unwired, in the infobox The Resonance Difference. For the most part they're pretty awesome. They're also a fair bit overpowered, hence why I figured I'd ask. Flavour-wise they do actually help highlight the differences between Resonance stuff and normal Matrix stuff (being that what works on a normal target will not work so well on a Resonance target, unless one is also using the Resonance). However they provide benefits without downsides, so it might stack the deck in favour of TMs.
To clarify: I'm not actually requesting you to ahead with it, I'm asking if you were thinking of doing it. :P
And on a side note to the rules Max is referencing: That also means that some of your stuff doesn't work quite right on regular systems. But some of the other stuff works differently between the two.Not sure where you get that... Am I missing something that's not in the box on UW 137-138?

With the echoes, a TM becomes tougher/impossible to defeat with certain programs, but none of the echoes seem to have a negative effect on the TM's abilities to interact with programs/computers.
Group Contacts: Hmm... Good point. Would saying "9 maximum before applying the Group Modifiers" fix it? If not, I might just drop the restrictions... As posted earlier, it's already a 'soft' limit anyway. If you can come up with a reason why your character's got that kind of connection, the limit can be (re)moved.
Question to potential players:
How would you feel about potentially letting other players play your characters when you're unavailable for a period of time?
- Use Chummer.
- Contacts: Free Contact points equal to (Charisma + Highest Unmodified Attribute) x 1.5, round up. (Only using Charisma or Social Skills just ignores the fact that ugly but talented wrestlers or impolite but brilliant scientists can still be well connected in their own circles. Buying some contacts that actually have anything to do with your role/specialty would be appreciated.)
Warning when building your characters:
A lot depends on how the game goes but I don't have many things planned in Seattle, you'll be travelling and might be away from home for quite a while.

So we probably shouldn't deck out an expensive vehicle?

When posting your character to me, at the moment background/story might be more important than the stats.
Consider asking yourselves (and answering me) some of the questions asked on this page:
http://ingomonk.droppages.com/Creating+a+Shadowrunner/Fleshing+out+your+Character (http://ingomonk.droppages.com/Creating+a+Shadowrunner/Fleshing+out+your+Character)
(The questions from the second part will usually tell me/you more about your character than the first 20.)
No, I don't want you to answer all 40.
People, you don't have to do them!CoughSilkCough
I just posted them so you'd have an idea of what I'm looking for: some insight on who your characters are.
If you think you can do it by writing "She's a self-loathing hypocrite sociopath who thinks the rest of the world population exists only to be manipulated so they may be used as tools.", that's fine too.
Damned, choosing players is hard as hell :(
Extra points to anyone who can get me the scientific/psychological for having serious difficulties making choices!
CERTAINLY SELECTED SO FAR: (Posting this so I can't change my mind later!)
Anachronaut - P.I.G.
Chrona - Three Star
HydroRaven - Rat
I've got my reasons to pick them and I'm sticking with those. If you have questions as to why I chose these above other characters, ask me in PM's and I might explain.
Still 2 spots left.
Going to pour myself another Duvel. Maybe beer helps me make choices... or want to watch Falling Skies and return tomorrow... or fall asleep... Hmm.

Farothel... Out of curiosity, how many (at least semi-)active PbP's are you in at the moment? (By the way, do you happen to know anyone willing to run a Pathfinder game RL of PbP?)
You know I like and respect you as a player. You're also the only real magician character that signed up and I know you're among the most active players on these forums and wouldn't have a problem taking on another.
The only reason I haven't selected you already is because there's only so many games with so many player slots and I sorta want to let other people get a chance to play, too...

I'm currently in 5 that are (semi-)active. It should be possible to add another (I check the forums every day and my next holiday is forseen for March next year).
As for pathfinder, I don't know anybody at the moment, but I was planning on looking for a second RPG group in the forseable future.
Frack.
I hate this.
Since I can't get to a decision on flavor and character, I'm going to do this the pragmatic way:
Farothel: Sorry, your character interests me, I know you're an awesome player and don't doubt you can take on more games, but you need to share your toys and give other people a chance to play, too :p
MaxKojote: Sorry, but the group's got a hacker already, I'm not too fond of incredibly surged characters, too unfamiliar with TM's and feel less guilty about 'refusing' you because you're in 2 other games as well...
RHat: Sorry. Pretty much the same as MaxKojote. Already got two PC's who can act as a face and you too have got other games to play in.
3 players left, none of which are currently in PbP's.
Pragmatism to the rescue again: The group's got no magic support and while I actually think a caster's probably the easiest 'role' to leave open, having at least one character who knows a thing or two about magic seems the most useful.
So that means Spooky is in.
That leaves me with TheDarkMessiah's 'Swish' and Yogi's 'Boomer'.
Too tired to think now. Also not enough information.
Can both of you please send me some basic charsheet info?
Like what will probably be your highest and lowest attributes? What skills, gear, qualities, 'ware or powers will stand out or define the character.
Doesn't have to be anywhere near complete or accurate, I just want to know what you're thinking off.
If I can't decide tomorrow, I'll start a damned poll. :(
He asked a question, and I answered it. Though I have a feeling I know where a lot of my early Karma's going, after the first 13.
Um, I was thinking more Sorcery and Arcana. Maybe a touch more Assensing. After I get Masking.

Probably the fairest way to make the call - but consider me on call if something should happen.
Not filling me with confidence, Chrona.
Hmm...
I could wuss out and do it Chrona's way (starting a poll) :p

We both are. :)
Because of a lack of a better idea, Free Knowledge points equal to (Int + Log) x 3 seems pretty good.
Still a lot more than the zero free points karmagen gives you, no?
With so many freebies, I should probably start building some Prime Runners as opposition...
Stay with the base (INT+LOG) x3 then add the characters highest unmodified attribute.I actually had the same idea!
Foot Anchor... It should technically probably be Exotic Melee weapon, but I seriously hate that stupid skill. Second choice would probably be Unarmed Combat (Spur), imho.
But sure, Blades work.
I'm nice like that.
That said, I do kind of have a problem with their availability. 'Normal' Cyberspur is12 and Forbidden. But the Foot Anchor, which helps its owner shoot bullets easier in addition to having the exact same deadly use as the Cyberspur, has a lower availability and technically couldn't legally be prevented from being walked right up to the president? That's just silly...
I use books, my brain and notepad.
It's not uncommon. I know a lot of GMs use Daegann's, and insist their players use it.Stopped using Daegann's the second I found Chummer.
Ah thanks, well I finished making him and i have 159 karma and 10k nuyen left.................................................................. I have no idea what to use it on. I guess iwill up all skills not at 4 to 4... any other ideas?
Don't care about the price, it's the legality of having hidden weapons built inside you: it simply isFoot Anchor... It should technically probably be Exotic Melee weapon, but I seriously hate that stupid skill. Second choice would probably be Unarmed Combat (Spur), imho.

I can just give you another 8k if you like, I can spare it and buy 2000 nuyen of ammo
(Otherwise, as he was built from the foot anchors up, I'd have to scrap him and start over)
Licences:
Weapons: One per weapon category (or at least, the R-rated weapons) + one for concealed carry. (For categories, just look at the skills: pistol / automatic / rifle /...)
Bio/cyberware: One per restricted item.
Other items: One per job/cover/category. What makes a category? Let's say your SIN says you're a wildlife photographer. Then you might get away with putting chameleon gear (so the animals don't see you), shock frills (protection vs. predators), maybe even a laser microphone (find out if something's in that nest), grapple gun (to get to difficult places) and some gas (protection vs. predators) in a single license. You will have a hard time explaining why you need anti-technological or lockpicking items with the same license, though.
A drivers licence or stuff like that don't need to be bought, they're part of your (fake) SIN.

Anyone have any suggestions on contacts? Currently have 3.
Arms Dealer 3,5
Fixer 3,1
Street Doc 3,3
I have 15 free contact points or 30 karma worth to spend.
Maybe get one or two more and/or reclaim some karma back for skills and such.
Maybe a mercenary group contact that has a wide reach that would tie in with his military background.
You've been playing on this board longer than I have and never used Chummer?
I don't think I'm able to make a character without it!
If you can free up about 2.5k worth of expenditures you can recliam a point back and get a skill specialization.Cant free up any money, even had to get rid of my shotgun to afford all those licenses
I think there is an optional rule of carrying over up to 5 karma into play.
Man group contacts get real expensive real quick. a 3,2 contact with national reach, 100-1000 members limited martix presence, limited magical personnel will cost 30 karma.
Decisions decisions. Get one big contact or get 2-4 more small ones.
Doesn't matter, they'll all be dead soon anyway.
That's why you take Made Man.
Chrona, is it just me or did you start with a Rating 6 skill group? AFB at the moment but I don't think that's allowed. Otherwise seems pretty powerful, but that's okay. One thing I'm still unsure about, though, is the foot anchors. I said I'd allow Blades for them and I'm sticking with that... But I am wondering about defense with them. I'm not sure whether you can really effectively block and parry with foot anchors and you don't have an unarmed skill to defend with... No problem when wielding a blade, but without a blade your only melee defense seems to be full defense with gymnastics.
If I'm right about the skill group and considering you had so many karma you din't know what to spend it on, maybe some points in unarmed might fit?

Silence... Not sure how to say this and don't take this the wrong way -you can build your character however you want as long as it's within the rules- but are you sure that's how you want to build your character?
Your most significant skill investment seems to be in the Influence group, but the group already has two other characters labeled as (semi-)Face. If you were aiming for a detective who can walk into different places and talk to people, just buying Etiquette and maybe a few points in Con would've been enough.
For the rest of your skills... well, you just seem to be lacking focus. You bought the firearm group, melee group, tech group, stealth group, spellcasting group, conjuring group. Shadowrun really isn't that suited for that kind of thing. Specialization is key. As Tolkien so eloquently put it: "Like too little butter scraped over too much bread."
None of your skills really seem good enough to be able to rely on, your dicepools are just too low with not even a single one above ten.
My advice'd be to pick one sort of gun and stick with it, pick one kind of melee style (if you want melee) and stick with that. (If you want to fight as Drake, what skill is that? Unarmed?)Spellcasting group is useless with so little investment, if you want to cast a spell, take the spellcasting skill and forget about ritual casting... Counterspelling'd be nice, I guess.
Same with the summoning group: with that dicepool, attempting to banish or bind might wind up suicidal. If you do want to summon a spirit, why not just get summoning?
I get that understanding technology is useful, but when are you ever going to use the Software skill used for programming?
And for Power points, large part of your Adept powers are spent on a power that's very, very circumstantial, to the point that I've never seen a situation in play where it could be used. Okay, sure, my job as a GM is to build you guys a game fit for your characters, but I honestly can't say I can think of a way to make it worth that kind of expenditure without making it seem forced (or feeling forced myself, for the matter).
I... I don't know. Could be I'm missing something... But remember that your character is a 'runner. Sure, he's a detective, but he's very much a runner, too. That's the game we're playing. And that means often doing dangerous things in even more dangerous places for even more dangerous people. Picking up some clues could be helpful, certainly, but that's not everything he should be doing.
I'd strongly urge you to reconsider this build, maybe get some advice from others...
I'm not going to stop you from roleplaying, you don't need dice for that. But the moment dice need to be rolled, I'm afraid your character's greatly outclassed by the rest of the group on pretty much everything but assensing. And spellcasting, but mathematically, with 2 dice spellcasting, your chances of glitching are much higher than succeeding in a spell.
Yogi, does your character have a backstory?
Yogi, does your character have a backstory?Doesn't matter, he'll be dead soon anyway.
I should REALLY stop doing that.

Please start creating new characters for a game set in 2386.
Rat and Boomer? Did you email your chummer files?
Spooky: Nothing wrong per-se, but I'm just going to point out that there's little reason for you to buy the Analyze Magic spell and might be better off with picking another one.
The spell allows you to Assense things you can touch. You can cast it with a dicepool of 6. But you have an Assensing dicepool of 12(14), an ability which doesn't require any effort, gives no drain and works at LOS range instead of touch. Why would you ever use the Analyze Magic spell?
What changed, you dropped the Agi to 5 I see, where'd the resources go instead?
(Easier than having to re-check the whole thing)
Make sure you set it to save to backup after creation.
Licenses? Ha!
Haha!
HAHAHAHAA!
Okay. Seems to be in order.
Starting Nuyen.FYI, doesn't technically work that way. Normally, for every 100Y left at chargen, you add 1 die to the starting nuyen dicepool (with a maximum of 3 times the number of dice rolled).
Starting Nuyen ((3d6+1)*50=) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4226465/)
Result = 500 + 130 something that I had left. Will round to 630 Nuyen.
I'll ignore the email then. Does the candlelight dinner offer still stand though?

You're walking? Uhm, okay... lol.
He invitation was to be there at 9:30, by the way, not at nine. Three Star's really walking a second after that time passes?
MaxKojote seems the obvious choice. TM's tend to have decent Charisma too.
"Lovely." Spooky said, sounding a lot less pleased than he was when he'd heard there was some work, "Sounds like we're dealing straight with Laes, or people trained by the Tir Ghosts. Anyone got something we can leave here for observation while we pull back? If we're wrong, no harm, no foul. If we're right, we're clear if this is a set-up."
QuoteAlso, forgot: Need an Edge roll for Boomer.
And Xyl, Gangs and Underworld are at 4. I double-checked that one a bit ago. Laesa is more underworld than gangs, though it might be enough with a 4 in each to know the Laesa have ties with he Ancients.I know, that's why I said I had not problem with it, it fits in this setting.
@Anyone interested (MaxKojote, Mithlas, vinmun, ??): What games are you currently playing in?

He turned up the gain on his cyberears, started recording and filtering out background noise and the possible white noise generator that was in that roomThat would've probably required a Computer+Edit roll, which I know Boomer's got. But with the loss of dice from the white noise generator and the closed door, Boomer just didn't record that much more than Quinten finishing the threat to call the major's superiors and the major giving in and telling Quinten 'right this way'.They move while they talk and after a second door can't be heard anymore.

I rolled Syra's knowledge rolls now (and rolled good, so keep 'em!), but next time if there information that can be gained from for example knowledge or perception, or if initiative is needed or whatever else, instead of putting the game on pause and waiting for the result of a roll, I can just take whatever amount of dice I need from your JiC roll and immediately use the result.
I won't use them for everything, you still get to roll for most skills you actively use.
