That sounds great. I am a bit desperat right now.

This happened to me from version 5.187 and on to 5.190.
I cannot tell you when the file were last oppened, because even though Chummer chrashes, the file still registeret, that it was oppened today.  But the files were created 5+ months ago.

I can forward you one of the files, if you like. It happens with severel different ones.

..having a bit of difficulty opening an older (Create Mode) file.  When trying to open in release .189 or even .187,  I get the following error:

"There is no Unicode byte order mark  Cannot switch to Unicode"

Where is this set in the file and Is there some kind of hack I can do on my end to fix this?

Make a backup copy of the file. Open the file in a text editor. The first line should be

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>

change it to

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

save the file.

That worked for me.

Is anyone else having a problem opening pdf's from within Chummer? The last few nightly releases I have used have not let me, most recent version is Chummer5 (5.191.25). Every time I try to open a pdf Acrobat opens just fine but then it tells me "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found."

I've checked the file and can open it directly without a problem. I've checked the file path in the Chummer sourcebook options and its correct. I even have an earlier version, Chummer5 (5.178.0), which I tried using and that one works just fine.

Help?

I changed how the options for PDFs work a while back to support... something, I can't remember now. Foxit was being stupid, I think. Anyway, what PDF Parameter settings are you using, and what aplication?

Ah! I didn't think about the parameter setting. I've never messed with that setting so didn't give it a thought. That did it. It was set on Web Browser. I changed it to Acrobat-style and it worked fine. Thanks!

I cna't seem to select some of the qualities. Fame and dependants are both in the XML, but don't show up when I run the program, even with the proper book selected

At a guess, you have the rule to hide qualities prohibited by missions enabled.

Having an issue adding the Dog mentor spirit quality. I get a "enter value for Mentor Spirit", I entered "Dog", then I got "Enter value for Enhanced Senses". I entered "Vision", then Chummer froze. I had to open my task manager to close it after waiting for an hour to see if it would unfreeze on its own.

I'm using Chummer 5 Nightly Version 5.191.31, and trying to make a PhysAd.

Oh lovely, the forums decided to load for once. That's a fun change.

The Improvement system doesn't really play nice when adding multiple powers with the same name, currently it adds the first power, detects that you have that power, and tries to make it free again. The freezing you experienced is linked to that, in that there's technically a forced value but it's not coded to expect it, so there's technically another dialog window behind the Chummer window. If you pressed Enter it would've closed the window and restored normal behaviour. Unfortunately nothing much that can be done about it until I implement the powers rebuild, but that's run into some technical issues related to qi foci.

Anyway, Chummer 5.192 is now available. Big things are in the works, but the major notes for this version are that all of the relevant errata from Run Faster has been included, Book of the Lost's (admittedly minimal) content has been added with the exception of the alternate Raven mentor spirit, and a bunch of weird bugs have been fixed.
The one major important change you'll need to take note of is that by default, Chummer now does not show items over your maximum availability limit unless you have the Restricted Gear quality. If you can't find cyberware that's normally above the limit but reduced by Grade, you may need to reselect the category or use the Search textbox, due to the way the filtering works. You can disable this behaviour by disabling the relevant option in the Character and Printing tab of the Options window.

Fixed an issue loading characters with lifestyle qualities that have been renamed.
Added functionality for Working for the People/Man to automatically exchange Karma for Nuyen.
Fixed the career mode weapons list stretching outside the visible area.
Fixed behaviour of the Enable Special Attribute improvement in the Improvement creation form to work properly.
Fixed an issue tyhat prevented lifestyle qualities like Extra Secure from working. Fixes #1506
Fixed behaviour of the Free checkbox when selecting armour and gear in create mode.
Fixed an issue with calculation of attributes when using the optional rule to treat Metatype Attribute Values as 1.
Added a house rule to spend Karma on Attributes before Priority Points.
Fixed the rounding behaviour of the MaxArmor property to prevent crashing for drones with 0 BOD/Armor.
Fixed an issue with the Stun Condition Monitor that caused it not to update properly.
Fixed behaviour of custom improvements to refresh Skill Pools on toggle.
Fixed an issue with the house-rule for cyberleg movement causing the movement rate to show as 0 if the character has no cyberlegs.
Fixed an interaction between the Enhanced Accuracy power and multiple instances of the Exotic weapon skills.
Fixed an incorrect doubling of costs for modifications attached to Vintage weapons.
Redesigned the Select Armor and Select Weapon forms to make the item browser more visible.
Fixed behaviour of the ArmorRating attribute to properly account for High-Fashion Armor Clothing.
Applied a filter to the JSON Export to properly save files as JSON.
Added a warning message when loading an XML file if duplicate IDs exist.
Fixed a stack overflow when selecting vehicle mods.
When creating a new knowledge skill, the Type combobox will attempt to populate automatically.
Data Changes:
Fixed incorrect reach for the Frying Pan and Chair improvised weapons. Fixes #1483.
Fixed incorrect bonuses for the Dracoform qualities that prevented them from being added.
Fixed incorrect costing for the Workshop vehicle modfication.

Today I tried both the new stable and new nightly, and on each of them when I tried to update options it would crash.  That is, it would tell me that option changes are only saved on re-load, I'd accept that, it would bring up the usual box to allow Chummer to make changes to the system, then once I accepted that would give me an error box.  I did do the submit report thing on the first crash, didn't bother on the subsequent ones.  The program would launch again from scratch, but the options would be unchanged, so I'd go around the circle again (I was trying to see what the alternate Raven mentor spirit was like, so updating options to support Arcana was the point of the exercise)

Sadly I hadn't bothered to back up my old version of Chummer!

(if it matters, this was on a windows 7 machine)

Alternate Raven isn't included currently, because I don't know what the mechanics behind an alternate (if any) are supposed to be.

Most likely culprit for your options not saving properly is that one of the dropdowns didn't load a default value properly. Usually it's the default sheet that's been left as null. Beyond that, I'd need to see the actual error.
