SR 4 - Rigger in Space

Its a 825 karma build with 16 availibility. I'm allowed to use Core, Unwired Augmented, arsenal and companion. Negitives don't give karma up front (they give later)

So, with this guy, he basically rigs into his drone most of the time. Cept I don't know 4e's rules on rigging and the like, so I don't know what programs I need to get it to work. Anything else I should be aware of?

Concepts are great, but implementation sucks. Why not improve it?

Is this supposed to be a rigger who basically runs with the team thru a drone on the ground whilst he is in space? or is this a space setting and you want him to be a rigger?

Either way there are some pretty glaring short falls, the first one that jumps to mind is the lack of attributes. Apart from thee many 1's and 2's (infact it seems the character is more dump stat than not?) it just doesnt make sense to have so many logic linked skills and have yet have logic at 2. for instance not counting a few of the logic skills that dont really use attributes (data search and E-warfare) you are spengin a total of 208 karma to get 6's across all these pools. Whereas by pushing your logic up to 5 and your ranks in each of those skills down to 2 you would end up with pools of 7 and the total... 142 karma

Apart from anything else you need to boost those attributes. also little things like you haveing an armoured weapon mount on your drone (this is an emplacment style gun that you sit inside fire. gonna be tricky when the drone itself is basically your size) Also they have no weapons in them, you have sniper ammo but no rifle, as you mentioned you have no programs (Commad, Spoof, ECCM are all good starter options for a rigger, but its just as easy if you can afford to to go full hacker as well)

Hopefully a few helpful ideas in there.

With 4E rules, there's virtually no difference between a hacker and a rigger. Build the character to do both, grab the best commlink you can, load it up with programs, and then add in drones to round it out. I don't know why the rifle wasn't in there. Whole reason I had sniper ammo was a sniper rifle in the drone.
The setting is apparently in space.


So.. Need to raise attributes. Gm said it too this morning.

And there is a mount already in it.. Is there a way to change the weapon mount so its internal without you know, using up a whole bunch of modification space? Cause I'd like to put in a sniper rifle into the drone and a grappling gun, since I'll be in this drone most of the time.
Concepts are great, but implementation sucks. Why not improve it?

why do you have your heart set on an internal mount? given that you are putting a sniper rifle in him you would assume its going to sit far enough away that no one is going to the gun anyway? which leads to another question, if your in space is everything happening in the confines of a space station? you may not want guns but things like tazers and melee to stop you from accidently breaching a window or some such...

(Maybe if you had some more info on the overall setting this would be easier?)

Yeah, the most of the setting is some ship to ship combat, pink mohawk, dealing with aliens, and I'm a military guy. There's also Close quarters combat that could be involved too.

Mostly was wanting an internal mount cause I was gonna rig the drone up to look like some crazy dog thing, Might even have me switch to a different weapon...

I think the game is going to be like 90% on the ship. So you're right.. I should switch to a different weapon, making the internal hidden weapon mount probably more useful?

Again, if your pink mohawk'n it, why bother. Make the bot look like a dog and have the gun barrel stickin out its mouth or attached to its back as a "doggie turret" (im thinkin old skool dino riders!) And if the GM is explicitly saying its pink mohawk, i say go nuts on a sniper rifle (give it ex-ex as well for fun splattery goodness)

Now one of your biggest assets as a rigger is that you can control a bunch of different drones. It seems like you're thinkng more along the lines of a primary combatant with a robo buddy, which is totally doable and you dont need to invest all the hard yards into those pesky rigging skills. Make a Cyber Sammy, but give him a good commlink and then just have your Drone slaved to your comms. Also upgrade its dog brain (rofl) with a few things like higher pilot and autosofts and maybe some fuzzy logic. Bam, you kills things, doggie kills things, everyones happy!
