Title: Origins 2014 June 11-15 Columbus Ohio
Post by: KarmaInferno on <03-25-14/2349:52>
It appears the Origins 2014 Shadowrun Mission event schedule is finished:

http://criticalglitch.com/?page_id=478

You can preregister for entry badges at

http://originsgamefair.com/registration/register-for-origins/

but event registration hasn't started yet.

And... can it be? A Shadowrun schedule at Origins that mostly matches the play slot times of the other living campaigns running there? I won't have to sacrifice playing two other events to play one SRM event, or two SRM events to play some other event? Hallelujah!

Last year this schedule was tested out and it seemed to be a huge hit with the players and the GM's so here is to hoping it stays for the long haul.  As some one who ran 3 all day events last year it was nice to have that break to get food and just reset my brain I know I could not have run the same volume if it was a back to back slots.

Thanks for that!

Hopefully next year the breaks are extended by half an hour to match the slot layout of most of the other living campaign events? Plus a lil extra time to eat/get to next location/whatever is nice, especially if the previous event runs long.

By the way, any clues as to what this "Shadowrun Live" event is about?

Shadowrun Live is the Shadowrun LARP.

There are other living campaign events besides Shadowrun?  As long as I schedule the events at Origins, we will keep the one hour break between to allow the other necessary activities required for sustaining life and sanity.

I have a couple of questions.  First, I'm checking the Origins list for Missions and I only see 2 being ran multiple times as SRM, what is the CMP?  Also there is a Shadowrun Larp?  Where can I find the rules and is there any more info about it?
Title: Re: Origins 2014 June 11-15 Columbus Ohio

The SRMs are the main season, whereas CMPs are convention mission packs, normally only playable at conventions. Sprawl Wilds (SR4/SR5), Firing Line (same) and Elven Blood (SR4) are all CMPs. The ones on that schedule are SR5 ones.

Post by: Spectral Force on <04-25-14/1045:38>
So the CMP's are SRM approved then?
Title: Re: Origins 2014 June 11-15 Columbus Ohio
Post by: Michael Chandra on <04-25-14/1050:00>
Yes, they are. Currently I think we have 22 legal missions for Season 5 characters: The 2013 CMPs, the 2014 CMPs (which I think are debuting now?), the two rewritten&released former-CMP books and the 6 SRM-5A missions, of which only one has been released outside conventions yet.

I've already been running Sprawl Wilds and Firing Line at my local game store as SRM5 approved, I only 1 more left that I'm scheduled to run tomorrow.  i was looking to actually play at Origins with my Missions character, but I wasn't sure if I could do the CMP's and still have a legal character.  I'm hoping after Origins or at Origins that I can acquire the new SRM releases to run.

Yes CMP's are Shaodwrun Missions legal, as long as they are the season 5 versions.

To date we have

6 SRM's from 2013
8 CMPs form 2013
4 CMPs from firing Line
4 CMPS from Sprawl Wild
1 Welcome to the Sixth World

That means walking into Origins 2014 on Wednesday at noon you could have played 25 legal games (plus the Shadowrun Live at Origins, & Gencon)

Origins 2014 releases 8 new CMP's

As for the question on ShadowrunLive stop by the game hall and you can get a copy of the rules.

Forgive me for asking this, but does anyone yet know if Crossfire is going to make it to Origins?  I see in the Crossfire thread that everyone is hoping that it will, but I'm wondering if that's on anyone's radar in this thread.

Looks like the gaming master schedule grid is up!

No event registration yet, but folks can start planning I guess.

http://originsgamefair.com/events/games/

Question, "6879 CMP 2014-08 Company Men 4:  Demolition Run" is listed as running at 8 PM Sat night. All the other events in the evening start at 6 pm. is this an error?

As long as I schedule the events at Origins, we will keep the one hour break between to allow the other necessary activities required for sustaining life and sanity.

Heh, I meant making the breaks LONGER in the future, so the events run at 8 am / 1:30 pm / 7 pm instead of 8 am / 1 pm / 6 pm. Not a huge deal, but it would help player scheduling. Thanks for all the hard work!

We will have some Crossfire demo kits with us, but nothing official is planned for Origins.

6879 is supposed to be at 1800 (6PM).  This is supposed to be corrected in the next revision of the grid.  If it's not, please let me know so I can get it corrected.

Here's how much fun I'm planning for Origins...

CMP 2014-01      Boundless Mercy 1: Recon                    Wednesday, noon
CMP 2014-02      Boundless Mercy 2: Search                   Wednesday, 5pm
CMP 2014-03      Boundless Mercy 3: Recover                 Thursday, 8am
CMP 2010-01      Manhunt (only 1 time slot)                   Thursday, 1pm
CMP 2014-05      Company Men 1: Silence is Golden       Thursday, 6pm
CMP 2014-06      Company Men 2: A Night’s Work           Friday, 8 am
CMP 2014-04      Boundless Mercy 4: Destroy                  Friday, 1pm
CMP 2010-02      Carbon Copy (only 1 time slot)             Friday, 6pm
CMP 2014-08      Company Men 4: Demolition Run          Saturday, 8am
CMP 2014-07      Company Men 3: Run Out the Guns      Saturday, 1pm
CMP 2010-03      Ashes (only 1 time slot)                       Saturday, 6pm
CMP 2010-04      Humanitarian Aid (only 1 time slot)       Sunday, 10am

I've never been to Origins, but I've bought my ticket.  How do I register for games so I can make sure I get into the schedule above.  I think any change to this schedule means I'll have to do something twice or not play.  NOOOOOO!!

Thanks for any help/guidance you can give me.

Justkelly,

We have to wait till GAMA puts the origins event registration online. Worse case if you get locked out buy generics and bring them to the Shadowrun room, we did not turn a single player away last year and we intended to repeat that this year.

Just a note for folks that like me that had difficulty finding it - the Shadowrun Live event is called "Abandoned Assets" and is under the LARP section, not Roleplaying, and is event #2617.

I would be running a similar itinerary like that. This will also be my first time to Origins and I plan to get as much gaming in as possible, especially if I can get older mods in.

I know the tendency will be wanting to play every minute you're there, but it's not a bad idea to schedule at leat one slot "off".

It'll give you some time to refresh yourself and visit the rest of the  convention.

There's a lot going on - Origins occupies several city blocks and it would be a shame if ya'll spent the entire convention cooped up in one tiny function room. The dealer room itself is large enough to take a couple of hours just to browse through, even longer if you stop to participate in various demos being run by game companies.

I would like to thank the Catalyst Team for putting on a great show at Origins. It was my first time attending the event and to participate and be part of what was voted Best RPG of the Convention was thrilling.

I would like to thank all the GMs and players I sat along side. I learned a lot and hopefully I will be able to attend next year and possibly GenCon (next year).

It was an incredible show, and I'm glad y'all had fun. :)

All told we shattered all previous Origins Attendance records, with an increase of 30% in the number of players we ran this weekend (813, not including all the folks who ran through the interactive demo and the quick play demos), and we even beat out our Gen Con 2012 attendance numbers with that.  Incredible.

You guys are awesome.  On behalf of all of us on the Missions design/writing crew (ANd I'm sure Ray and the GMs wouldn't mind my saying this on their behalf as well), thanks for coming out.

How many tickets were sold vs events filled in 2013?

How many tickets were sold vs events filled in 2014?

It seemed like you guys added A LOT of tables in 2014 and the overflow was still pretty substantial.

Last question. I know in 2013 no one got turned away, were you able to hold true to that?

Sandra and I were fortunate enough to have tickets for every thing but 1 event and i know almost every table we played at seated 8 players and went pretty smooth.

From an e-mail Ray Rigel sent to the agents on Tuesday, some of the stats you're looking for:
Quote
Here are our final numbers to share with anyone and everyone (or put on your resume):
- Scheduled events:  77; actually ran:  123; 60% more than scheduled
- Anticipated players (to include LARP):  580; actual players (to include LARP):  831; 43% more than anticipated
- Improvement over Origins 2013 (to include LARP): 34% more players; (without LARP:  31% more players)
- Total players:  831 (without LARP:  813)
*These numbers do not include the Interactive Demo or Quick Play area

I'm not aware of anyone being turned away unless they showed up late or didn't have tickets; Ray, Rob V. or one of the room captains would know. I do know quite a few GMs deliberately hung around in case they were needed to pick up the overflow.

Title: Re: Origins 2014 June 11-15 Columbus Ohio
Post by: justkelly on <06-19-14/1723:39>
Ticket purchases were capped at 7. With the massive amount of extra players, tables were asked if they would allow an eighth player. Every table I was at said yes if asked to include an 8th.

Post by: KarmaInferno on <06-19-14/1727:47>
None of the tables I was at had more than 7, the GM being the 8th body.

And I would like to apologize for for the... intensity of my Hammer Adept, Viktor. He got some teams into a little trouble. At least things turned out all right.

"You know, this encounter was written with at least three ways you could have talked your way through. None of which involved property destruction."

I don't have the numbers in front of me exactly but here is what I know from my conversations with Ray who will pip in at some point with hard numbers.

As far as I know we held to our no one turned away though it is a bit of a fog so many games, if we did it was strictly because they showed up late.

We did over the course of the weekend end up seating a few tables of 8, when you had just that 1 lone straggler looking for a game as long as the other players at the table where ok with it.

Thanks to everyone for providing much of the information already!

As to 2013:

I scheduled 60 events and expected 402 players.  We ended up running 117 events and had 621 players.

To compare one year further back, 2012 had 53 events and had 292 players.

I made a conservative increase in number of events for 2014, not sure if the huge turnout in 2013 would repeat.  With the increase to 7 tickets per table and 25% more events, it was very conservative.  However, Floating GMs and awesome volunteers made the difference!

I set a hard cap of 7 per table because 8 sometimes gets unwieldy, but as mentioned, we often had 2-3 players left over after filling pick up tables and asked tables for permission to add an 8th player.  I want to thank those tables that agreed as it helped us keep our promise to turn no one away.

Unfortunately, there were some instances where players would show up quite late and we had to ask them to come back or play at the Quick Play area.

Due to the amazing fan response, I will once again increase the number of events at Origins 2015, still with the tickets set at 7 per table.  I will have Floating GMs available if the turnout proves greater than the increase can handle.

I have to say this again as ive said it a few times.

I was very impressed with how organized, polite, and knowledgeable the GM's were. There may have been a few inconsistency between tables (I don't think "matrix stuff" was run the same way twice all weekend) but the games flowed they made sure to keep every one involved and entertained.

We will be back for sure next year.

And to be fair.. I still dont understand "Matrix Stuff" 100% my self having never been involved with it prior to rolling up toon.. (Didnt even start with a deck a u didnt need one in 4th lol)

Ray, it sounds like you did a great job with Origins. Thank you for all your hard work and efforts.

Thanks for the praise, but it is really the GMs that deserve all the praise!  Without them, there would be no (or very limited) Shadowrun played at Origins.  They are truly a marvelous team of individuals who work exceptionally hard to provide a fun experience for the players.  I know many of them travel long distances, take valuable vacation time off work, get stuck in rooms of four (sometimes happily), and spend 32 (or more) hours entertaining and managing tables of seven very different personalities over and over.

Having been a Shadowrun GM at conventions for quite some time, I can understand some of the stress and aggravations that come with any convention, so I just try to make their life as easy as possible so they can focus on making sure they and the players have fun.

Thank you, once again, Shadowrun GMs and players for the opportunity to serve you!
