Title: Into the Chaos - recruitment thread.
Post by: gilga on <08-19-15/0355:50>
In Seattle, there is something new in the air, a sense of chaos. Life in the Barrens are difficult as is but this is something new. The northern Barrens neighborhoods bordering Bellevue are being abandoned. Rumors of  an imminent Shedim invasion spark the air. It is getting more and more common to spot walking dead bodies in the streets during the nights. Sometimes these are drugging homeless people, or passed out drunks into the sewers.  Fear does not stay inside the Barrens, during the last month there were three different attacks on Bellevue. The rich pack some serious firepower to protect from ‘SINless scum’ and these attacks were easily repelled. However, they received very high media coverage and the sight of walking dead bodies coming from the Barrens is alarming to all. The media is full of videos that show these bodies hopelessly trying to cross the Bellevue barrier with no regard for personal safety. These videos and conspiracy theories around them  are spreading like a wildfire in all parts of the city.

Everybody are talking about the recent crisis, many enhance the panic for their own financial interests. Knight Errants demands a massive increase in budget to keep maintaining the peace.  Rightwing politicians demand airstrikes over the Barrens. Drone and security companies like Ares, Horizon and the rest are bombarding the matrix with aggressive advertising campaigns showing these dead bodies and urging people to get more security.  These feed an ever growing public interest in this phenomena. Inside the Barrens things look grim.  The new diaspora ignites a new generation of gang struggles and battles over territory and control of resources become common. The barrens are already crowded and there is no room for everyone. Rumors of Shedim makes the inhabitants extremely suspicious and paranoid. People barricade themselves in rundown buildings, stockpiling firearms and ammo.  Many desperate people will  do anything... anything in the world to just get as far from the barrens as they possibly can.

Hi!
I am looking for a core of active players to play and write this story with me.
The idea is to start with multiple parallel solo or duet milk runs. These are made to give us a feeling of the world, the different powers that populate it, the characters and their personality, flesh contacts, important NPC's and locations of interests.
After some milk runs that will essentially be very short (depending on post rate of course) I want to converge to a big run to get to the bottom of the situation and either exploit and benefit from it or bring things back to normal.

I am a bit new to Shadowrun and this will be my first time as GM - but I had some positive experiences and I hope that I can keep it interesting for everybody. One thing I do want however is commitment, I want everyone to post once a day (much more is also welcome), if you are going on vacation or lost interest, or can't post from any other reason do not leave me hanging in there respect me and my efforts and respect your fellow players.  My other rule is no graphic descriptions of torture or violence, be polite to other players even if your character is not.

I want to establish a core of 4-6 dedicated players that do not have to always run together.
Especially in the first phase of the game where you will be doing short milk runs.

Ambitious, I like it. But don't be surprised if those milkruns take much longer to resolve than you expect - it always takes longer.

That said: I'd like to take part, both as player and - if you need it - as support if you have GM troubles.

Most important: Are there any special restrictions or additions to the character generation (sum2ten, karma, etc.)?

Well it is not as if I am in any hurry to 'finish' - I like the atmosphere even if we are not going to the bottom of it.  Standard generation rules are fine, priority, sum2ten, karmagen and life modules.

I have some suggestions as to how I envision the world.

1. SIN's and legality of weapons will be a big issues every time you leave the Barrens. I'll do my best to make carrying illegal items and big firearms a hassle outside of the barrens. That include cyberware and bioware. If you have illegal cyberware you have no legal way to be in any civilized area and the more paranoid and scared they become, the more security will be tight.

2. In times of chaos people will be extremely suspicious and superstitious - background count will be higher due to the fear base of (2 in the barrens and 1 in the rest of the city). Also, 'geek the mage' is not a tactic, it is what every street rat knows even if they never met a mage. Obvious magic in the street will make the local gangers hostile and coming in with guns blazing.

3. Expect everyone that is more than a homeless or a burnout addict to be armed, dangerous and suspicious.

4. Lifestyle - I prefer that you live int he Barrens - this is not a must but as the story will focus on the Barrens it will make a lot of connection.

I do not plan to GM in the classic way - there will be plot and leads to follow but I will try to leave a lot of room to populate the world with stories, people contacts, locations and organizations. (That I will eventually reclaim control off).

Hello, I'm a person who recently got into Shadowrun and wanted to see if I could join. Should I post my character information here?

Roxxy, Disco Queen Technomancer

So, the basic concept I wanted to try and do was a Troll technomancer with the soul of a fiesty disco queen. I'm still trying to figure out sprites and gear, so i'll update this when I get the chance.

Okay, also don't forget backstory, contacts and so on, this is the important stuff.

In terms of fluff, here's what I've come up with.

Roxxy is a large female troll with the soul of a disco queen. On the outside, she looks like a normal unemployed troll in the barrnes. However, inside the matrix, she'll usually be rocking her disco suit and roller blades, riding around as she wreaks havoc on systems and such. Her distinctive fro and smooth moves make her standout, and every moment with her is a party.

Roxxy used to be the manager of a failing discotheque. While pop simstars became all the rage, disco was sadly left behind, but Roxxy refused to let it go. Unfortunately, while browsing her extensive disco collection on the system, she unfortunately was hit with a very large dose of freakout from Crash 2.0. This in turn opened her eyes to the possibliities of disco. Disco was forever, and with her newfound powers, she is determined to bring disco under the spotlight once more.

The concept is a technomancer that focuses on destroying information and replacing it with funk and groove. Some would consider her a terrorist, but in reality she just wants to spread the love, man. However, due to her distinctive and eccentric, paranoid nature, she easily stands out in systems. On the outside she looks normal enough for a troll with a large orange afro.

Contacts
---

Jerry Ruger [Pawn Broker] C4/L2
Jerry is the orkish owner of a pawn shop down the street and is often Roxxy's go-to for second-hand BTL's in the past. He used to be a frequent patron of the discotheque before it closed down, but he enjoys Roxxy stopping by every now and then. He, like Roxxy, is also a connoisseur of blues and funk.

Tsamina Romanov [Street Doc] C4/L2
Tsamina is a neighbor of Roxxy who is often charged with the task of fixing up Roxxy after she returns from some of her exploits. She's not as into disco as her friend, but she's smart enough to know not to say it out loud and usually tolerates the loud music coming out from her room. She's been genuinely concerned for Roxxy, but remains silent.

So, here's the completed sheet. Let me know if I need to change anything.

Ok, since this sounds like a job for fearless idiots:

Meet Kynos - ex-military, ex-husband and ex-tremely dead inside. As an idealistic young idiot he went to join the armed forces to defend the fatherland (or what was left of it). 20 years later and countless invasive surgeries later he is only a shell of his former self. Between deployment in foreign countries, a failed marriage and massive injuries, at some point he stopped to care. Something broke inside him, his life and that of others stopped to be of great importance.
The only time he feels alive is when he is back on a mission, feeling the adrenaline coursing through his veins.

This is precisely the reason why he hasn't left the Barrens where he ended up a few years prior after Europe became to hot: Here is action to be had, here he can feel alive every day until he dies...

Arty is a young woman who lives at the edge of the Barrens, in the old Kingsgate Community on the shitty side of the 405.  She makes a living by acting as a courier for various groups and gangs in the Barrens and into Seattle proper.  She has earned a decent reputation as someone who can take a small physical object and get it to the appropriate person in a timely manner.

Berserker
Those who follow the path of Berserker love fighting just for the sake of fighting, be it with words, fists, or spells. He is the greatest of all warriors, capable of wading into battle without fear, and he will wage his war singlehandedly if necessary.
Advantages
All: +2 dice for Composure tests.
Magician: +2 dice for Physical-type Combat spells, preparations and rituals
Disadvantages
Berserker’s followers have very short fuses. Whenever someone strongly disagrees with you (gamemaster’s discretion), you must pass a Charisma + Willpower (3) Test to keep from striking out against the offender. If the test fails, the attack can be in any form you choose (fist, spell, etc.), but it must have the intent to cause damage.
Character Bio
Maxwell Rhodes was born on December 13th 2050 in Dallas Texas.  An unfulfilled life of SIN-less poverty spent in war-torn cities had turned the hopeful youth into a psychotic murderer.  Every year was the same to him during that period.  His time spent scavenging in slums and ghettos made up the bulk of his existence.  Gritty sands and bitter bile are what he had to sup on in order to survive.  A sprawl life with no chance of a better tomorrow, made worse by the fact that every one of his blood relatives were slowly dying off as the years rolled by.  This didn't stop until he was the last one to his name.  All alone.  Doomed to die and be forgotten.

One night Maxwell had a dream.  A dream of a scorched battlefield littered with mangled corpses, scenes of fire and death painted this nightmare.  Amidst the field was a lone figure slowly wading through the carnage clad completely in armor and carrying a bright burning sword.  The knight armored in black turned to face the frightened Maxwell and spoke thus.  "FOLLOW THE BLACK PATH AND FIND GLORY OR DIE IN OBSCURITY."  Feverishly the man snaps out his dream to find himself back home in his current hovel.  Except, something was different now.  Something strange and almost eldritch.  Maxwell had Awakened.

With his new found powers, Maxwell had risen out of his stagnant state and quickly made a name for himself as Sovereign.  However, he did so by following the dark example of his unseen, unnamed patron.  To which he simply referred to as The Black Knight.  Because he never knew what to call that nameless warrior other than how he looked.  A foul reputation clung to him because of this.  For what good could be said of a man whose deepest desire is to merely watch the world burn and finds his truest purpose amidst nothing but strife?
I've just returned to Shadowrun after a twenty year hiatus and am catching up to 5th Ed (I last played 2nd Ed).  I have a human mouse adept in mind but will need a few days to develop in 5th Ed style.  If you can give a girl a few days to get her act together, I'll toss my beret in the ring. :-)

I've got an orkish former punk band drummer turned rigger after a stint in prison. He's the skinniest ork you've ever met and he knows the streets he grew up in like the back of his hand. His name is Duckdown and I'd love to throw him in as half of a shadowrunner duo for a milk run or two to see how things pan out.

Still got room? If so, I'll post a concept and backstory and all. Can I be with Jack Spade?

I am game for working with Mercy Merchant. We've been in PM contact and will share what we come up with when we're done character developing.

I have another question.  Our esteemed GM said the following early on...

My mouse adept was marked by her mentor spirit en utero, meaning before she was even born.  I'll explain the full details in her bio, but suffice for now that her pregnant mother and a bunch of peeps she and her husband led through the Hell of Bug City 2055 survived by making a deal with Mouse.  She was born on Oct 1, 2055 just outside the blast zone underneath Mercy Hospital right as the barrier went up and the bomb went off.  Her prehensile tail, ears, distinctive dentition, etc. are some serious obvious and difficult to hide marks of being different (read freak and probably magic touched).  In the environment you describe, can I negotiate for more negative attribute karma than just the 5 that comes from a distinctive attribute?  Her tail, ears, and teeth seem to be a LOT more problematic in your game than a visible Ancients tattoo.  My avatar image currently is what she looks like, so you can see exactly what I mean.

Finally, I hope we don't lose Mulcarn.  If I'm not mistaken, he's our only mage!
Title: Re: Into the Chaos - recruitment thread.
Post by: gilga on <08-20-15/0922:33>
Well I see no reason to, unless I am not understanding it right. Being looked like a mouse may give negative modifiers when dealing with people - people often treat changelings as freaks. But unless she uses obvious magic like fireballs, spirits and so on she shouldn't get the reaction of people with torches screaming mage, starting to crowd the place.

I will not give more than 2 dice negative social modifier for looking like a mouse. 'Human' in SR world is a flexible concept. The penalty will be similar for not wearing the right kind of clothes for the social situation.  Coming to a formal party while 'mouse' will be like a formal party with street cloths.  But like a big ancients tattoo - people will remember seeing a mouse lady in a crime scene. Just like distinctive style.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos - recruitment thread.
Post by: gilga on <08-20-15/0924:20>
it should be alright. I already planned 3 simple runs to begin with each with 2-3 runners.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos - recruitment thread.
Post by: Bartleby on <08-20-15/0925:31>
So, are we being assigned partners? I'm just wondering who's gonna willingly partner up with a heavily goblinized disco diva. No amount of Snickers can cure that.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos - recruitment thread.
Post by: gilga on <08-20-15/0935:24>
I will pick 3 players to recieve a mission and they'll have to assemble their teams. But I do want that the 3 different runs will cover all the runners.

Your disco queen is not the only goblinized person, about 10-15% are orc and trolls. She does fit in in certain places especially in the Barrens. (or at least she does not fit in because of her personality rather then genetics. - up to you.)

So who ever want to pick his run bodies coordinate it OOC. if you are unassigned I'll write you up to one of the runs.

For reference.
Here is a map of SR Seattle I extended it and the run locations are already marked - but nevermind that all in good times.  Feel free for asking me permission to update and add your homes, friends contact homes stuff like that. We will assume the unrealistic but very convinient assumption that Seattle 2075 have the same buildings as current day seattle and just their usages are different.
(basically players that likes to can have their own layers with personal places.).

Post by: gilga on <08-20-15/1045:26>
Purchase and eviction yes. It will be the run of Mercy and SY. Mafia wants to expand its influence into the Barrens.
I'd be happy if you do specify where they are and just write that neighborhood as you like it to be. Within reason of the general area. It is not a must off course.

Well, then I'd guess Roxxy would live in the Barrens close to the district hall where Roxxy can occasionally wreak havoc on some databases every now and then when she feels she needs to inform the higher-ups the wonders that is 70s music.

Name: Justin "Serge" Feron
Meta-type: Human
Ethnicity: Half Caucasion / Half Cherokee
Age: 30
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 175 lbs.
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Brown

Sheet: Serge - Medic and Pistoleer (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8XkQp9M7IKbUHNTY1RNTlowTGM/view?usp=sharing)

He lives and runs a small clinic in what used to be an old animal hospital near the edge to just outside Touristville to help take care of the Redmond residents (the "obscure/difficult to find" mainly applies to those who don't know Redmond areas very well).

He has something of a "deal with the devil" with a gang boss he's friendly with to keep his home/clinic and the general neighborhood around it 'safer' than the rest of Redmond--security at the cost of providing medical services for the gang.

His girlfriend is a pharmacy technician in Bellevue, and she helps make sure the clinic is stocked with decent medicines.

All4BigGuns, we should coordinate our selves to know each other, I am building a similar background.  There is no logical reason we wouldn't have crossed paths, maybe sent some business each other's way.  I will post the intro for my character in the other game I ran him in to give you an idea.

"There is a neighborhood in the Redmond Barrens that nobody talks about.  Actually there are a lot of places in the Barrens that no one talks about, but this part of the Barrens doesn't get talked about because the people that live there want to keep it secret.  The reason they keep it a secret is because the people that live there don't want the world to know that life in this little part of one of the worst hellholes on earth is not really all that bad, it is kind of an oasis in the brutality around it.  In fact the folks that live there call it the Oasis.  It is near enough to Touristville that you can still hear sirens most nights, but a little too deep into the district for the slummers and thrill seekers to risk making the attempt.  The Oasis is not really any better off than the area around it, there is crime and desperation, and rundown buildings, but the folks here care a little more and actually look out for each other when they can.  It is the kind of place that a married Mafia lieutenant can stow the dime piece he keeps on the side with his illegitimate kid if he likes her.  Where a Shadowrunner can have his brother's family move to after the brother takes a bullet for him.

One of the reasons that the Oasis exists is the Harris Clinic, a place where locals can do for real care.  One of the reasons that the thin, awkward looking young man walking out of the Clinic knows he can safely walk these streets without fear is that his name is Devon Harris, he is the son of Dr Maxwell Harris, the founder of the clinic.

Devon knows that after the 12 hour shift he just finished that he really should just go home and sleep, but he also knows that he is going to the 'other' clinic a few blocks away to check on the razorgirl's new mod and spend a few more hours going over rituals in his Lab.  He pops his last Caff-Tab and cracks a new pack, walking a little faster so that he might sleep in his real bed tonight."

Honestly, I got the idea for the location of the home/clinic after zooming in on the map and seeing a modern day animal hospital. Seeing as such a place in a large city like that will be pretty big, there'd probably be room for both to run a practice out of it and still have room to accommodate his home (and in the future, they could possibly share the costs of the lifestyle the home functions under as roommates--not yet as the lifestyle is currently paid up for a few months).

Opening sequence with the Mouse adept could be amusing, and I would be enthused to begin with Mercy Merchant, if groups of 3 can work out.  Otherwise, I am good for whatever.

I'll do my best to have the character ready tonight so that we can do the pre-meeting event tomorrow evening, hopefully before our first run starts.

So lets do 4 teams.

What I remember now is

2. Mercy Merchant , Shaman_Yuri, Jayde Moon

5 more players to split into 2 teams.

@Jayde Moon - I want you to take into account that your monowhip focus is visible from the astral even when it is turned off and that it is a forbidden item. That means that going to places with magical security and assensing the focus will be spotted automatically. It will take assensing to determine that it is a weapon focus - but 'there is somthing there' will be free for everyone that looks into the astral. It is only on the physical world that it is hidden.

Yup.  I expect there to be shenanigans.

That said, there are a few points that I should make sure make sense to you before I assume them:

Conceptually, this is a 'go around the obstacle' character.  So, she won't go through checkpoints, she'll try to find a way around them.  Climb over buildings, go the long way, jump from rooftop to rooftop.  It's how she makes her living, smuggling small goods back and forth.  So she tries to mitigate the times she'll even be looked at by security or KE or whoever.

She isn't licensed for a Weapon Foci, regardless of the type of weapon it is.  If someone spots it (at least until she gets that fake license), that's trouble.  She'll either need to bolt or fight.

But if they can't see that it's a foci or whatever, she'll try to fast talk them into thinking it's just a small billy stick.  A six inch mini-club for self defense.  The whip retracts into the handle, so it's not a completely unplausible story, by my interpretation.

So yes, I expect it to be a challenge to just cruise around unmolested with a weapon foci monofilament whip.  The fun will be in navigating those obstacles and getting around with it.

All of that said, if you feel this is outside of the spirit of what you are going for, let me know!  I am not tied to it being a weapon focus and can certainly spend that money on mo-different stuff!

Monowhip is solid very difficult to detect you will be in hell if they do detect it but the chances are that you'll have to use it to be detected.  I only noted it because it seem to be your only combat option and you might end up in places where there is magical security.

My mouse adept's bio.  Note, I leave her real name out of the bio because she hoards that knowledge carefully.  Those who know her call her Minnie.  Yes, Minnie Mouse.  She was given the name when she joined the Finnigan Family and it's stuck ever since.
On October 1st, 2055, Petra Kreidich, a pharmacist, gave birth to a healthy baby girl at Mercy Hospital in Chicago where Petra had worked for a few years.  The event was witnessed by her surgeon husband, Peter, and was supervised by a good friend of theirs, an OB/GYN who practiced at the same facility.  New mom and dad were well established and loved each other.  All sounds normal, right?  Boring? A waste of pixels, right?

Wrong, chummers!

Left out of the simple facts was that the birth occurred in a laundry storage room in the hospital’s sub-basement.  No power, no water, and sewage backing up from nearby drains.  The stench was unbearable.  The floors inside were teeming with mice and grotesque and voracious half-human insect spirits skittered across the grounds and careened through the air outside.  Several dozen shooters stationed at broken windows and a handful of mages on the helipad performed their last ditch effort at great risk to fend off the unholy assault which seemed certain to overwhelm the defenders within hours if not minutes and leave helpless the thousand odd huddled and starving civilians, mostly women and children, praying for deliverance deep inside the besieged steel and concrete structure.  It seemed to all metahumanity present like the End of Times, and the freakish baby’s arrival complete with fuzzy mouse ears and pink, wiry tail seemed to complete the image.

And then drek got even weirder.  Just as the new baby bellowed out her first lusty cry, an opaque dome appeared just to the west of the hospital and the insect spirit attack just…stopped.  The bugs keeled over, seemingly smited by the hand of God.  Fliers dropped from the sky.  The exhausted defenders hailed it as a miracle and together they gave thanks to Mouse, the totem spirit who had extended its protection to the hospital and the motley metahumans within.  Mother and child were celebrated for their role in the late August astral pact which had made the unlikely defense possible.

Eventually, though, autumn turned to bitter cold Chicago winter and the insects remained asleep.  With the threat apparently gone, emaciated throngs left the burnt out refuge that had been their home for four months and went on with their lives.  Peter, Petra, and their marked baby girl were left to try and return to normal, finally fleeing the CZ and, in Peter’s case at least, resuming to a profitable practice.

But what is normal when you’ve just given birth to a beautiful baby…mouse?

Answer?  Not much.

Taking the baby to social functions was a disaster.  Even restaurants were possible only with the newborn confined to a covered basinet, making nursing a challenge of blankets covering not only breast but baby as well.  Petra quickly found few other moms were interested in sharing time with her.  No day care, or later pre-school would take the child.  She was too human for the few reputable facilities catering to orks and trolls, and not human enough for those with elf, dwarf, and human clients. By the time the little girl was six, Petra and Peter had reluctantly accepted that home schooling was their only option.  That same year, Petra and Peter were gifted with fraternal twins – perfectly normal human boy and girl.  These kids could have a normal life, and give back normal to their beleaguered parents, if not for one problem.

Little mouse girl.

When little mouse was eight years old, a solution was provided by a friend of an acquaintance who knew someone in the mafia.  The Finnigan Family of Seattle promised a life for the child where she would be among people who accepted her increasingly strange abilities and would find her exotic appearance desirable.  It didn’t take must convincing.  Without a tear, and only a little guilt, Petra saw her daughter off to Seattle and what she was told would be a life of new horizons for her little mouse girl.  Lingering guilt led Petra to fly out to the Pacific Northwest twice over the next year to check in on her child, and what she saw left her feeling it had been the right decision.  Her little mouse was getting educated in a classroom, albeit a small one.  She had friends her own age – not many, but friends nonetheless.  She seemed happy.  Petra was able to turn her back on this chapter in her life and never worried again for her first born whom she would happily never see again.

But it was all a ruse.

Yes, little mouse’s appearance was “desirable” to some people.

Sick people.

People who shouldn’t be allowed to spend time alone with tweeners in a bedroom.

From the age of eight until very recently, the mafia provided a home…a family…for little mouse.  In return, though, once it was certain her mother wasn’t coming back again she was expected to earn her supper lying down.  The scars from the experience aren’t visible, but are grotesque nonetheless and will never fully heal.  Still, the mafia did accept her, and she has friends there.  When her adept powers developed at the age of twelve, they helped her train and channel them…although only after she ‘accidentally’ shredded a particularly vile but well-connected bedpartner.  She knows she owes the Finnigan’s her life, but from now on she will pay them back on HER terms, not theirs.  She’s a big mouse now, and she’ll make her own way thank you very much.
Alright, thought about it some more and realized I could get what I wanted out of the weapon foci by going a different route.  So still Monofilamented, but added Unarmed and a Qi Foci instead of a Weapon Foci.  This also freed up some nuyen for fake licenses (yay).

My young lady Minnie has lived a hard but sheltered life with the Seattle Mafia.  My ignorance will be hers and I'll just make it part of the game.  She's going to be mostly clueless how to survive in the harsh real world, and she and I will learn with each other.  Hopefully my troll roomie and my partner with the unsavory feline friend will get some laughs as I make a fool of myself with my UCAS SIN and registered awakened abilties...   ::)

== Description ==
Skinniest ork you've ever seen, but he sure is pretty. Or rather, he would be if he weren't trying so hard to be ugly. He keeps his hair long and straight, but never washes it, so it stays ratty. He's got tattoos in Or'zet surrounding the port of his datajack that say "Truth is Freedom" and a nasty "get back" scowl on his face whenever he has to deal with "squares". Dresses in simple street clothes; jeans, pullover shirts with band names or anti-corporate slogans on them, and black combat boots. ALWAYS the combat boots. He's got a strong chin, high cheek bones, and large tusks.

== Background ==
Orks don't live near as long as the rest of you, so we live harder. We dance harder, we fight harder, we sleep harder, we dream harder, we love harder. It's that last one that's the most powerful, man. Love, duuuuuude, love. Love's how the ugliest smeltery worker you ever seen ended up pairing with the raging fire of a woman that is my mother. She's 46 now, older than most of us get, and the proud mother of 11 daughters and 6 sons. I still got three brothers out there somewhere. They're all grown and moved on, i think one of em joined the army or went to jail or something. I'm not really sure. Sisters, i got two left out there. As rough as life is for everyone, it's even rougher for us, and rougher still for our women. I can't even imagine what trolls have to go through. damn. can't even imagine... Anyway, my sisters Agatha and Theresa still live in town. I'm pretty sure neither of them are officially members of a gang, but they hang out with those guys ALOT. Agatha's 13 years old. She's an adult. I don't really give a shit what SHE does, but Theresa is still just a kid. She should at least TRY to go to school. At least till she hated it so much, she started acting out and getting into fights to get out of it. That's what i did. That's what you're supposed to do. That's like, what school is for, right man?

I used to be an angry little trog, y'know?

I was really into using my hands as a kid. I wanted to climb with em, and build stuff with em, and beat people up with em, and i got pretty good at doin all that stuff. But then, there was that one day. My mother was living with my late sister Monica's father at the time. I think his name was Terrance or Jessica or something. Probably not Jessica. Anyways, he played hardcore beebop jazz saxophone and me and him really got along well, unlike most of my mothers partners. He was a crazy guy, always tellin jokes, bouncin around, fidgeting with his fingers, come to think of it, that trog was probably a cokehead. Fraaaaaag. I always wondered why mom threw him out while she was pregnant. Ok, anyways, he comes home from a gig one night, late as shit, and he brings with him, into our living room, this nice lookin drumset. It was the shiniest thing I'd seen in my entire life, and long after my siblings had finished fighting over it and lost interest, i just kept banging on that thing for years. Nowadays, I'm just the best drummer in the plex. It aint no big deal, chummer.

I used to rock with El Chupacabracadabra. I don't know what bullshit the label made em change the name to. I don't listen to that pop drek, but you've probably heard em. I was the only ork in the group, and no one really understood the struggle but me, so once i started writing songs for em, we stared blowin up. Eventually, the type of guy i am got to be too much of a liability for em. See, in the music biz, you gotta be able to lie to people's faces and pretend to be stupid. That's how you get that nuyen. You make what the teeny-boppers wanna hear. Something to keep the little corp kids from realizing THEY are what's wrong with the world. Either that or tell the ghetto kids that they matter and not to sell drugs. I wouldnt do it. When i write a song, it's the chip truth. So, they got a record contract and replaced me with some dandelion eater. Changed the name and fired our dwarf manager, too. Name was T-Ball. Solid guy. Kindof a dork, but he was always straight with us. Dude always had our backs and they did him like that? Did me like that? Buncha squishes, with their frakkin squish bullshit.

I kinda lost my temper. I don't like to dwell on the old stupid days, but lets just say, some property was damaged, some charges were pressed, and i got arrested. Good thing T-Ball still liked me. He didn't have the connections to get the charges dropped, but he got em lessened and my time reduced. I did 8 months for destruction of private property and criminal mischief. I was lucky. They coulda got me for grand theft auto and attempted murder if they really wanted to be dicks about it. I'da probably died in there if they'da hit me with that. Prison turned out to not be so bad. It mellowed me out a lot. And not just cause i started smoking a LOT more zen. I also did a lot of soul searching and a lot of writing. If i could sing, I'd have an entire album ready to record.

When i got out, T-Ball tried to get me legal work, but between my new criminal SIN, my race, and the new pastime i'd picked up in jail, that never panned out. It dawned on me about five months after i got out that i was gonna have to make money on my own. I mean, shit, I was gonna be 20 years old in four months. Almost over the hill, maaaaan. It's time I started actin responsibly. I'd met a few people who did a few things playing with 'chupa around town for all that time. Seemed like it was time to make some calls. I been in the shadows for about two years now, and I know my days are numbered.

== Concept ==
Mad at the system, too smart for his own good, can't keep his mouth shut, ork from the streets. Reads too much to get fooled by the bullshit
Or maybe one of those in #3 wants to join is in #2?  That still leaves us with three groups and keeps things a little easier for our wonderful GM, but evens it out a bit.  Just a thought.

Here is my basic character.  Most of the stuff is in but can be massaged if the GM needs me to do that.  I went with the Trust Fund high lifestyle and have added a special room for Minnie.  Comments and constructive criticism are welcome as I have only been playing for a few months.  If the group is going to include Jade Moon's, do you want to live with us as well?  I can change a couple of things and add another human-sized space.

Background Story
The Troll baby’s future did not seem too bright at his birth.  His mother was a prostitute, working at the Splintered Eye, a brothel that is located in the Ork Underground and caters exclusively to Orks and Trolls.  His father was any one of the random Trolls that paid money for the services of the girls there.  Life in the Underground is harsh and violent and the life expectancy of a newborn there is frequently measured in days.  Only an extremely high birth rate allows the Trolls and Orks to multiply as they do.

The boy’s mother was indentured to an arm of the Finnigan family, one of the larger Mafia families, and had little time to raise a boy while trying to pay off her owed time.  Once he started walking, she lost what little interest she ever had in him.  Fortunately, the boy fell under the protection of two rather large Orks who took him under their wing and showed him the way of street life in the Underground.  And while not pretty and definitely not safe, the Underground provided him with the sort of street hard know sort of life that would see him in good stead later.

He disappeared from the brother entirely at the age of 6 years old, moving in with his two friends.  To survive, these Orks did odd jobs, usually for one gang or another but most frequently for an old human by the name of Vinnie Martelli.  Vinnie was a sometime bookie and loan shark and worked for the Finnigans.  He had always worked for the Finnigans.  How he ended up surviving in the Underground was a mystery to almost anyone who knew him, but there he was, living out of a storefront shop with a walkup living area above it.  He seemed to know everyone and everyone knew him, and everyone left him alone.

He provided the boys with a place to live and some spending money and they repaid him by doing all he asked of them.  He used the two Ork boys as his runners.  They made weekly runs to the Underground entrance to deliver a bag of credsticks to a Finnigan representative.  They also made daily runs to pick up money owed to Vinnie.  The boys were large for Orks, and had little trouble collecting, in fact most debts were paid without having to call in anyone else.  The young Troll was huge for his age and just added to the intimidation factor.  Vinnie took to calling them his three musketeers, a reference from an old tri-vid about three boon companions who ran together.  He gave the Troll the name Athos as he could tell that he was going to be the largest and strongest.

When Athos was twelve, Vinnie made the score of a lifetime by taking a huge risk in accepting a very large bet from the Banditos gang on the championship Blood Bowl match.  He covered the bet with Finnigan money and won.  Given the size of the stake, Vinnie sent his regular enforces to accompany the boys when they made the collection run.  The Banditos were quite upset and not in a paying mood.  Things turned ugly quickly and a firefight ensued.  The three boys were unarmed and their guards were heavily outmanned.  During the shootout, Athos took a bullet in the head and fell unconscious.

When he came to he saw his Ork friends dead on the floor, along with all three of the escort.  He had bled so much from the wound to his head that the gangers had thought him dead as well.  Hearing laughter and talking from the next room, he remained prone so as not to give himself away.  He overheard several men talking, bragging about how they had pulled one over on the old man.  One raised the issue of revenge from the Finnigans but he was laughed down.  “No one will even remember the Finnigans after today.  Today is the day that the Triad takes the Underground from those top-siders and shows then that they cannot just come in here and do as they please.”  More laughter followed.

Athos picked up a handgun from one of his dead escort and stumbled into the other room.  He knew enough about guns to know how they work and what to do to make them go boom.  A Troll and three Orks were sitting around a table, sorting credsticks.  Athos aimed at the forehead of the Troll and pulled the trigger three times, hitting the target twice and sending the Troll backwards over his chair.  Turning the gun on the other three, Athos continued to fire before they could react to the unexpected threat.  Many shots were wasted on air, but enough connected that all three died before getting a shot off.  He heard a noise from where the Troll had fallen and went over to finish him.  Even badly wounded, the Troll spat blood at Athos.  “You have betrayed your own kind for a human gang.  Well it will not make a difference.  Your old man and all others like him are marked and will not survive the day.”  He coughed up blood and laughed as Athos replied.  “I am loyal to my friends and the Finnigans.”  He carefully aimed at the Trolls right eye and pulled the trigger, sending the bullet into what passed as his brain.

Athos swept the credsticks on the table into a bag and left the ganger building.  He was not able to drive the car so took off at a run for Vinnie’s storefront.  He arrived to find the already broken window completely shattered and blood on the front stoop.  He stepped over a Bandito body just inside the entrance and saw another lying against the far wall of the shop.  Hearing voices from the rear, Athos carefully pushed past the curtain separating the front from the rear and saw two Banditos standing over a prone Vinnie.  One was pointing a gun at the old human.  “Your time is over, human scum.  The Finnigans are finished here.  What was that you said?  I cannot hear you.  As he raised the gun to fire it, Athos shot the Ork several times in the back before killing his partner as well.

Vinnie looked up; his breath ragged and spots of blood in the froth from his mouth.  He nodded to Athos.  “Good lad.  Take my person comm and contact Gordo.  Top of the address list.  Must warn others.”  He fumbled for his ‘link but his muscles failed to complete the action, the device dropping from dead fingers.  Athos dropped to his knees to make sure that he was dead then grabbed the comm and hit the dial for Gordo.  He gave the warning and was told to remain where he was.  With the adrenaline rush past, Athos sat against the wall; noticing that he had not been quite as lucky as he had thought and had taken three bullets to the body during the firefight and was losing blood.  He fought to remain conscious and on watch over the family assets in the shop.

Athos barely noticed when the human accompanied by four large Trolls entered the shop.  He managed to stammer out the course of events before finally allowing himself to collapse into unconsciousness.  He woke up in a hospital bed with a Troll bodyguard standing at the door to his room.  The medicine kicked in and he fell asleep again.  When he woke he saw a human sitting in a chair watching him.  The man asked how he was doing and told him that his actions had saved many lives.  Some were lost, but the back of the Banditos was broken and the Finnigan family was firmly in control of their former territory.

“We want to bring you into the family for real.  You have been on the fringe, but you have displayed great loyalty and ability, especially for one so young.  Congratulations, kid, welcome to the family.”

Athos was provided with medical care and the first of several cyber and bio enhancements.  He was mentored by an older Troll who steered him through training.  Years passed and he was given greater responsibilities and even more training.  He was rewarded with better jobs and more pay.  He was 20 when he first saw Minnie.  She was about 8 and was just about the most exotic person he had ever seen.  Four years later he saw her again, this time in the back seat of his car.  He was on bodyguard duty for one of the escort girls and he saw her waiting for him as he pulled the car up and opened the door for her.  She was even more beautiful than he remembered and his heart was lost.  Of course he was just the bodyguard and she the fancy escort.  Over the next few years he was assigned as her escort many times.  After all, as a Troll, he would never be able to take advantage of the increasingly valuable mouse girl, as she was called behind her back.

After two years, Athos worked up the courage to speak to her and found that she was easy to talk to.  They became friends, or as close to friends as anyone could be in this business.  Three years after, Athos was moved to a different position in the family and was not able to see Minnie as often, although he was able to arrange to run into her on occasion.  But he was on a track to eventually be a made man in the Finnigan family. The next step in gaining recognition and higher rank within the family.

A cat and a mouse living under the same roof.  Sounds like the makings for a really great cartoon or something.   :P

Jerry Rules, Tom Droolz!  8)

And yes, I totally endorse the idea  ;D ...although I suspect Jade's character won't be interested and I respect that.  Cats will always do their own thing and she seems the loner type.  The heck with dragons, never, ever trust a cat!  ;)

Sweet! I feel like we're gonna need it.

Oh, and by the way... Did anyone else take the "small unit tactics" skill?

How do you fall on gimping cyberlimbs  (i.e. physical limit and movement speed)?

How do you feel about looting? I.e changing device ownership vs. too much trouble to balance rewards.

And I guess, is the game still open?
Title: Re: Into the Chaos - recruitment thread.
Post by: gilga on <08-23-15/0947:41>
1. cyberlimbs do not effect physical limit (but they have their own physical limit that is often quite high).
2. Changing device ownership is very difficult in my world.
3. Yes but once one of the runs finishes, 3 parallel is enough for me.

I've got a 4 limbs and torso cyber brute and a hardware tech specializing in device theft... minor drone work too.  Both have Yakuza affiliations. Any interest or too much trouble?

I don't like that concept very much, I am sorry. I do not want to introduce device theft to the game, and part of my game is to be able to deny that you've been involved in something. Police lineups and memory checks are things I intend to have. Playing a character that appears very unusual is a significant drawback in my game.

Since Gilga asked me to,

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3Eilie-VuHFdEZZREhMVUNPc3M (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3Eilie-VuHFdEZZREhMVUNPc3M)

Nyx was born in Ireland in 1990 a spike baby. Her parents rather confused by her elongated ears had them touched up when she was a young child. Much to there surprise only 20 years later the awakening happened. Soon after she dropped out of university and joined up with a local gang that was eventually absorbed into the IRA. Drifting from mission to mission never really exceeding at much her time to shine came when the cyberdeck was invented, turning into a prominent hacker she blasted through firewalls and disabled security for her team until the fateful day of the IRA bombing of the SAS base. Shocked that she had actually participated in both the construction and infiltration of said bomb into the base she decided to distance herself from her fellows and found a cushy job as a security spider at a tech company for just short of a decade. Pulled back in by her good friend Dubstep and a lust for the good old days she joined up before getting ambushed by Z Squad a paramilitary arm of the british government. On the run with only the very hasty fall back plan of bail to the UCAS, find shamus, and get revenge she finds herself in Chicago a decker with combat experience to spare. Recently returning from missions both in the CAS and Chicago dealing with both toxic shamans and the Zone, and running a river in Tennessee. She returned and underwent surgery for both bioware and cybernetics. Taking a little time to herself she is now ready to get back in the game, one step closer to avenging her friends and family. After all hell hath no fury like a pissed off shadowrunner.

OOC: Hello everyone! My characters name is spitfire and I will try my best to play to her strengths and weaknesses, though she is one tough cookie she does have a softer side and the regret of one fateful night still hangs over her. The only note I have regarding her background is she keeps the fact she is a elf to herself its easier that way. After all if everyone thinks your a young human you can get away with so much more. I hope you guys enjoyed my intro I would ofcorse play her in first person during posts this was just a overall briefing of sorts, cant wait to play!

Welcome.

Interesting character, but how did you manage to have body and logic both at 6? Is your augmentation list missing a cerebral booster?
Title: Re: Into the Chaos - recruitment thread.
Post by: Spitfire on <09-10-15/2002:02>
Oh no I started with character creation with a logic of six and just added one to body so I remembered for the plastic bone lacing, from what I gathered from the rules your body literally gets tougher so you can take more punishment, its like buying body attribute but with money, I might be wrong though, if not, its 5 as the base, and effectively six from the bone lacing.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos - recruitment thread.
Post by: Jayde Moon on <09-10-15/2010:38>
Bone Lacing only adds a point to Body for the purposes of soaking damage.  You do not actually have that additional point of Body (so it doesn't factor into your Physical Limit calculation, for example).
Title: Re: Into the Chaos - recruitment thread.
Post by: Spitfire on <09-10-15/2051:51>
So how does that work.... If you get a point for damage soaking, does that apply to your total health? or just rolls for when you take damage? aka a extra dice to soak, or is it just for all intents and purposes another point of body that just kinda floats there till you get shot at?

Edit: I changed it back to five for simplicity, updated it on google drive as well, Ill just have to remember to add that extra dice when I roll for body rolls. I do know for a fact it ups your physical damage, that's why all my melee weapons do +3 instead of +2
Title: Re: Into the Chaos - recruitment thread.
Post by: obidancer on <09-10-15/2258:28>
Actually it ups your unarmed damage, not the damage of of weapons I believe.
Spitfire would do STR+1 with her fists but still STR+2 with her combat knife.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos - recruitment thread.
Post by: Spitfire on <09-10-15/2307:16>
That makes sense and I assume since the cyberblade uses unarmed it would get the bonus?
