I've got a further question on this to confirm the behaviour of the magic loss.
The reduction in magic as caused by essence loss, I assume, reduces the force limit of spells and affects skills as a linked attribute.
Does it also reduce the number of adept powers that can be taken?

Eg, Start with a magic of 5, pick a variety of adept powers.
Essence drops by 2 reducing magic to 3.
Is it then required that you lose powers equivalent to 2 points?
