Ahoi-hoi!

I'm new to the game and forums and looking for some character creation advice.  My first Shadowrun character is sorted, he's a human hermetic mage and mostly hands-off when it comes to direct combat (i.e. he slings spells from a distance).

The campaign for my second character is for is inspired in part by the Danger of Side Jobs short story in the 5th edition book, with the party being a (former?) go-gang.  I want this guy to be right in the heart of the (physical) action, and a have a few short character concept notes:

  • Inspiration: "rock ape" - as untidy, less skilled drivers are known in motorsport.
  • This guy is probably an orc (or even troll?) go-ganger, heavy on melee combat and indiscriminate guns (shotguns, autos spraying lots o' dead-lead).
  • The one thing he really loves is his ride. It ain't necessarily a Harley but he likes his bikes like he likes his guns, and his music: big, loud and angry.
  • He's a failed combat biker, who blew his big break and wiped out in a big way (mech limb/s?) and now gets his thrills where he can.

I'm looking for opinions and advice on the best way to build such a Shadowrunner.  Maybe a bikes-specialised rigger?

well for sure you'll want a decent reaction stat with some decent skills in pilot ground, probably a specialisation in bikes too for the extra dice.
if you want him to be really really good biker, then adept or rigger is best way to build him, but looks like you just want him to be slightly better than the average and worse than the best.
tbh, there are a number of ways you could build this guy, but to me from your description you basically want a street sam who can ride a bit better than most.
dead easy to do!!

How about an adept with improved ability? Also, what about a former member of the Spikes Troll go gang, or a current hanger on?

It's hard to beat an adept specialized in driving for sheer ability. What you give up is the ability to control drones and the advantages that brings.

...probably a specialisation in bikes too for the extra dice.

Why go that far down? Just grab the Wheeled specialization listed in the skill.

That'll work :-)
