== Description ==
a 24 year old, japanese woman of average build and looks.
easily able to blend into the crowd, she prefers a course of action that doesnt involve a fight, but when pushed, will defend herself vigourously.
Her english speaking skills arent that great and her traditional japanese manners mean she is quite formal and staid in social situations. whilst not the most charismatic of people, she is warm and friendly to those who get to know her.
she has an interest in modern pop music, and frequently listens to elven pop acts.

== Background ==
human adept: 24 year old female. Japanese descent. Served national service in IJA at 18. expressed during service,
she found could  tap into an inner reservoir of strength that allowed her to jump and run great distances when came under fire. She has been classified as an awakened adept, and her powers allow her to focus her magic into improving her physical output.
She moved to the UCAS with her father shortly after finishing her compulsory service, under a corporate transfer scheme. Kyoko Father worked at Renraku labs, but was laid off after his project was canceled just on the brink of a major breakthrough. He died under mysterious circumstances at work and no further information was forthcoming from Renraku. The same day, her temporary contract with the company was terminated without explanation, and she found herself mourning, skint and alone in a strange city.
Unable to find legitimate work with the Renraku black mark on her employment record, she had to turn to illicit means of paying her bills, including the use of her gymnastics talents and military signals training.
Her talents earned her respect in the shadows for getting things done, and she now works as a courier for a black market weapons dealer and free-lances on the side.


== Concept ==
free-runner, who served time as a signals officer in the IJA, picking up skills in jamming, communications and intercepting data.

Description
Cuco is an average sized man, rounding out at 5' 9" with a slightly slimmer build than average.  He's 22 years old, has green eyes, and a handlebar mustache that he curls up at the ends.  His black hair is kept long enough to comb back, but when he goes out on a run it's usually tucked under his dark brown and archaically looking steeple hat with an exaggerated rim.

Background
Cuco was born in Seattle from Caribbean League immigrants.  As such, he's fluent in both English and Spanish.  Growing up, Cuco was always getting into trouble due to his mischievous nature.  Having lived in the grey area that was still very much the outskirts of the Redmond Barrens and not quite the safer areas of the rest of Seattle, Cuco naturally had to learn to use a weapon for self defense from the occasional gangers along with the usual underground procedures for obtaining a fake SIN in order to move around the city. 

The day after Cuco's 21st birthday, his life going no where fast, he woke up in an alleyway after a night of drinking and celebrating.  He had a cut over one of his eyes and several bruises on his face and body.  He had blacked out and must have been assaulted.  After trying to get his thoughts together in the lonely alley for short time, he noticed that his clothes weren't ripped due to the attack but rather... burnt.  Holes with seared edges were scattered across his shirt and pants but his body had not a single mark of being damaged by fire. 

Holy shit...

A quick look at his genitals put a now hyperventilating Cuco at ease.  He gathered himself and headed straight home...

I'll have to research what the hell could have caused... uggghhhh... ok one thing at time... aspirin... and coffee... maybe another beer too...

Concept
Cuco has recently learned that he is an awakened individual.  A little more than a year has passed since he awoke in that alley.  One thing might set Cuco apart, however, from pre conceived notions of what magicians are supposed to be... and that is that Cuco is a terrible magician. Not only does he lack formal training but he sucks at spell slinging in general.  He usually tries to rely on his baton or his shooting skills to see him through a tight spot because his magic is usually limited to cheap parlor tricks and burning the eyelashes off of whatever girl he's trying to take back home on a given night. 

My concept for Cuco is that of a comedic relief noob spellslinger who will probably get himself and the team in more trouble than its worth due to his spells.  His mentor spirit is trickster so expect him to pull pranks on you guys and bring in humor at inappropriate times.  I am most certainly NOT going for "bad ass" when it comes to Cuco.  I have an idea of the way that I'd like him to evolve, but that'll depend largely on the situations that our GM puts him in.  I expect Cuco's magical prowess to grow through this campaign as opposed to just starting out as a magical specialist.  I've never played a mage before so any clarifications on mechanics that I might get wrong would be appreciated.

Looking forward to playing in this game.
 I will be running an elven female character Alexi Senatasia  goes by Alex, Alex was classically trained in the art of influence by her family and had an inside track into the corporate world. Being an elf that was rasied in Tir tangiere definitely had some advantages. Her Family was solidily placed in the corporate world, both as top notch negotiators.  She had learned at an early age how to manipulate and negotiate terms in her favor Hand had even received an internship for Bluehaven Corp. However, she quickly learned that in the corp. world their are others will equal or better skills and seeing the corporate career ladder and the certainty it provided quickly added up to being boring. she was at the Bar inferno talking to an old school aquaintance Devon Engleslde about the disillusion of it all. How it seems everything is prearrange with no room to free style anything anymore and it was here that the ideal and suggestion for her to just disappear was given to her. To completely vanish from the world, the ideal appealed to her and she was given an early century novel to read "Atlas shrugged" and so in the following weeks she put together a plan then on the 3rd day of June at her cubical she decided it was time to go off the grid and see what type of life she could make for herself and quickly scribed a note " Who is John Gault?" although she didn't really figure anyone would make the connection.

It seems there are a lot of overlaps between JDA's character and the one i'm working on (almost complete, gear and background need a few more touches). I was considering a different build also, so i just wanted to ask our GM, what's his take on custom magical traditions. I'd possibly work with the following, and the magician is already done (just need to adjust a few things, as previous version used CHA*3 free contact points).

I like custom things, it makes people unique.  Plus there is plenty of lore where people believe spirits are dead people.  Nothing that I've seen to prove one way or another so it may even open up some philosophical debates in game.  Go ahead with the water/beast switch.

Since you and Gustovness have some previous history together, would the two of you be interested in having your characters know each other previously to help smooth over the initial team introduction?  It might be a little confusing to start with what I have planned out and it may just help things along.  I don't mean as in good friends or anything, just that your paths have crossed a time or two in the past and you might even remember each other's alias if you stop to think about it for a minute.

And the background for Puppeteer, the elven magician.
Michael was born in 2033 to elven father Daloren and human mother Jane. His father had a small gift and curio shop in Puyalup that has luckily seen enough customers to provide for the family. His father was a dreamer and a magic-nut, always pursuing some hazy goal. His mother was the restraint on these. The little Mike grew up between these two worlds, one full of stories and dreams, the other rational but caring.
Things got better and worse at the same time when in 2039 his mother died because of an untreated infection and it became clear that Mike had magical talents. His father decided that he has to give every opportunity to the boy so Mike went to a school for gifted young people, where he excelled when it came to the denizens of the metaplanes. After a few years he continued learning under an elven priest who gave him belief and purpuse beside knowledge.
In the crash of '64 his father was on a business trip, unfortunately in Boston. He lost his life during the riots. This was more than one shock for Mike because some "businessman" approached him after inheritance was taken care of and have shown him some contracts, according to which he owed them a lot of nuyen. His father accumulated this debt to be able to pay for his schools. These people were from the Ciarnello family and "persuaded" him to work off the debt by using some of his skills for them.
From then on, Mike had to accept a steady job of making fetishes for the Mob and teaching people they told to, as well as some "extra" work in the shadows. Still he wasnt able to completely pay off the debt as he pursued some dreams - not as far-fetched as those of his father but still costly.

Alex is an Elvin female 5’11 weighs 146 with blue eyes. She will always appear to be dress for the occasion. People always remark at how calm she always is, but her close associates can see the storm that rages in her eyes and have witnessed first hand her passive aggressiveness temper . Even in conversation you can note that she is has a warm, inviting sprit and will be quick to engage herself into the conversation. It is here that her element of being in control and calculating really comes to front. Alex is confident that she can take any conversation and guide it to a means that suit’s her interest, as well as very ambitious to succeed. Two traits that the corporate world has no doubt taken noticed of with the training in negotiations that they’ve provided her. Having had a taste of the corporate life and its rules and rigors she has developed a great distaste of, what she sees as a preordained life that goes from one routine to another.
 Seeking liberation from the life that she was destine to live she began to developed “escapes” from predictability and soon found herself attracted to gambling. It didn’t matter the game (be it poker, horse’s or sporting events), she simply loved the unpredictability of the human spirit and began to seek this escape as much as she could. This habit has been rewarding at times and costly and embarrassing at other times, as there can be wagers that don’t just involve Nuyen. It is odd to but when it comes to gambling the feeling of not having control of an outcome is exciting.
However, this soon proved to not be enough of an escape from the routines of life. It was only while visiting a friend at a bar, (watching a game that she had a bet on) that the notion of running the shadows entered her mind and the liberation that that would bring. She thought about the freedom of choosing her own course and making the nuyen that she felt she was entitled to. These thoughts were furthered advanced in her reading of “Atlas Shrugged” and she wonder why is she wasting her talents to benefit a corporation that in reality just bores the shit out her.

 Did it become clear that Mike had magical talents because of his mother's untreated infection?  That isn't how I read it but I thought I should ask for clarity.

The way I see it, gambling as knowledge would apply to what you know (shocking revelation, I know) and how you would apply it to situations.  Gambling as a skill would have to be something physical as in you know how to throw dice just the right way or shuffle cards in your hand.  This way seems like it would overlap with the palming skill.  So yeah, I'd treat it as knowledge.  Your changes are fine with me.




  • Ren is not part of any group either and he met Cuco on a matrix node that's dedicated to self instruction for spell slingers.  Other than meeting up a few times for soykaf in meatspace and practicing their craft, they've never actually gone on a run together.  Their fixer reaches out to one of them and agrees to let them bring a friend along who might contribute to the team. Big surprise when the other finds out that they're also a shadowrunner...

I'm not too thrilled about Gustovness having a link to the mob, I prefer if it was something more benign.  Maybe he happened to be at the right place at the right time or maybe helped a mobster's mother cross the street or something so that the introduction was done without him knowing of any mob connections.  Or you could just drop the whole thing all together.  Up to you guys.




In other news, I've decided to drop the house rule of Skill X2 max hits for now.  The more I think about solutions the more complex it gets so I'm just going to let it go for now.  I still like the concept but I' going to have to come up with something more elegant to try out sometime.

I've got a few last minute thoughts to bring together, work out some problems, and I think we're ready to start.  If you guys have any last minute changes you have until at least tomorrow evening, assuming I can figure out everything by then hopefully I'll be able to put up the first IC post.  Also, I've got two of the background rewards figured out, I'll spend some time tonight to figure out the other two.  You will all receive them in game.  No, at no point will I ever explain what they are or why.  *Evil GM cackle*

You guys need to figure out what gear you would typically have on you at a random time of day while not on a run and let me know what they are.  If it is not reasonable that your character would be walking around downtown in broad daylight with an Uzi and 500ft of stealth rope, please don't include such things.  *Evil GM ca.... Ok, so Ren's character is an instructor for the mob.  Let's just say I met Ren on the matrix and whatever little bit of interaction we've had has been purely social, non professional, and with no ties to the Mafia.

Cuco would walk around town with his lined long coat and extendable baton on any given day.  He has an amiable relationship with the local gangs, despite not being associated with them, so there really isn't any need for him to pack his pistol with him if he's running simple everyday errands inside his own neighborhood (groceries, soykaf shop, visiting friends, etc.)

His large and open yet modestly furnished studio apartment keeps his pistol in a small safe bolted into the floor under a small trap door with a rug thrown over it in the middle of the living area.  He only goes out with this on him when he plans on going out and getting drunk, doing a job, or leaving the relative security of his neighborhood.  He also keeps an armor vest in this safe...

For when it's too God damned hot for that jacket...

His steeple hat and staff are not enchanted, but he keeps them on display in his apartment when he's not on a run, staff up on the wall horizontally mounted and hat on a burnt mannequin.

If I gave a shit about people thinking I looked ridiculous with this hat on, I would have shaved off THE CAPTAIN a long time ago too...

For everyday trips out of the house (nipping down to the shops, grabbing a soykaf etc) flea will be wearing her normal clothing, (AR enhance set to graphic equalizer mode + displaying track information of her current music choice), she will have her contacts in, her headphones on (streaming her music from her meta link (wireless on, broadcasting fake sin)) and will also have her bomber jacket on (chemical protection needed against the acid rain, and insulation needed because it can get bloody cold on that bike on a windy day!). she will be wearing a cap to cover the nanopaste trodes she uses to interface to her kit and give her some protection against unwanted prying eyes.
she doesnt live in the best part of town so tends to keep her crusader in the concealable holster in the bomber jacket just in case (wireless off).
if she has taken her bike out, she will also have her helmet, and tends to keep this in a satchel bag about her person when not wearing it. she always has her set of gecko tape gloves with her in case she fancies taking the scenic route home!
on high pollen count days she will also have anti-histamines (from medkit supplies) with her.
when out training she just wears light gym clothes and gecko tape gloves. she will have her survival knife strapped to her ankle, under trouser leg for concealment and her metalink piping music into her headphones + broadcasting fake sin. she will have contacts in as well for the AR overlays of the GPS feed and lap timing compared to her personal bests from her metalink.

she tools up fully for each job, but her day to day gear is fairly relaxed. Flea's running gear is hidden behind a loose panel in her wardrobes and under loose floorboards in the bedroom.
her flat is a fairly modest studio apartment on the 3rd floor of a fairly modest apartment block. the neighbours tend to keep themselves to themselves, but flea usually gets a "hello" from the old japanese lady down the hall if they cross paths on the way to/from the laundry room.
Her bike is parked in the underground car park in her reserved space and its security system is linked to her home node, which is a fairly basic model but has access to her music files and favourite trid feeds and comes with a basic MSP package. The building has a contract with lonestar, though geoff the night guard could do with putting in a few more hours at the gym! the security is average for the style of building, all apartments are fitted with basic maglocks of typical contsruction.
Her flat is decorated with AR paint, set to resemble swaying palm trees on the beach most days, occasionally being swapped out for a mountain top scene to change things up.
Kyoko's furniture is all the cheap stuff from the bargain line at kong wal-mart, but it all matches and is comfy enough for her needs.
she would love to get a bigger place some day, but for the time being, this suits her and is close enough to the barren's markets that she can free-run to/from "work" and she has an intimate knowledge of the local rooftops/alleys in case of any drama.

Hey mate, unless I've missed it, you haven't got a camera to be able to use your empathy software (sensor software requires an appropriate sensor to function). Micro-cameras are cheap and can be incorporated/hidden in items so might be worth a look

Glasses are vision enhancers, not sensors so that won't work unfortunately. You need a camera for emapthy/weapon watcher/lie detector/vehicle recognition etc, and you'd need a microphone for noise analysis software and the like. Easy fix is to add a microcam to your clothing/armour but johnson might get twitchy at the meet if he knows you've got a camera pointed at him :-)

The rating of a camera just indicates its capacity, not its device rating.  You can throw any ol' microcamera in your glasses or wherever else, then run the empathy software on your commlink.  The empathy rating will cap at your commlink's system/response rating.

Alex being a new to running will almost always have her Chameleon suit on as well as her activesofts, knowsofts and a trama patch with her. The activesofts and knowsofts are kept in a concealable waterproof container. As a good luck piece.
At least thats what she calls it, she'll carry a deck of cards on her.She doesn't carry any weapons with her, unless she's going to a meet then she'll carry the predator in it's concealable holster. She will not have the grenades unless otherwise stated.

JDA, to roll you can use this format:

If you are using edge, then the rule of 6 will apply in which case you can write:

Quick note:  Your chest did not feel tight, you just had to work harder to breath.  When you removed your helmet it got easier.  You can edit your post to reflect this if you like.

While reading your descriptions and saying you used the helmet when riding the motorcycle, is this a full face helmet or open?

Ah, that's interesting then! Its an open helmet with deployable/retractable clear visor. Visor has image link functionality for AR motorcycle controls, sat nav, commlink AR feeds etc and range finder.
it also doubles up as her running helmet as it has integrated kit like the GPS for navigation through dead spots in the barrens, flashlight for when it gets dark and range finder for calculating distances she needs to climb/jump/fall.

As for rolls, tell me about it! Hopefully just getting my crappy rolls out of the way now, be rolling like a ninja soon! :-)

From the center of the room it is approximately 10 feet to the wall.  The ceiling is about 15 to the top, the light hangs 2 feet below that.

As an elf you have low light vision (maybe thermo, can't remember). My helmet torch would cast enough light for you to see by, so doing some perception (observe in detail simple action) would be good, we need to know what is making that whirring noise. i've not got much armour on and i would imagine being adhered to the roof would particularly impact my reaction for defence rolls (at least a -2 for being prone equivalent i think). might not be the best call in the end but at least i get to shoot back at the blighted drone before i go down :-)

Sorry JDA, I was rereading the OOC posts and I realized that I completely missed your question about the legend to automatically pop up in posts.

In the top section of each page there is a series of links:

Home  Help  Search  Profile  My Messages  Members  Logout

Mouse over  "Profile" then click "Forum Profile"

The second last section will have a box for your forum signature.  This is where you will put anything you want to show up on every forum post you make.  For example, you could write "AffreuxLex sure is sexy."  Alternatively, you can put in a legend.  This is what I have in my own:

You can tell the spirit to do what you want and you can elaborate within spoiler tags what you actually expect to happen because you share a special bond with the spirit and therefore it is reasonable to assume that it would have a deeper understanding of your commands, however I will do the actual actions and rolling for the spirit.

It allows;GM to give you information about the item without just saying "they appear to be dice" :-)
You'd roll:  intuition + perception + active search bonus (3) + visual enhancement rating (if any on your character)
More hits = more information about the item from the GM

def good place to start would be some glasses/contacts with R3 vision enhancement and whatever else floats your boat.

I'd like to ask the driver if they can provide some sort of drain foci as well.  As was made apparent earlier when Ren helped me out with the drain calculations, I can't quite get my head wrapped around how it works yet... So I don't really know how the drain foci would work for that matter either (I'm assuming they absorb drain so I don't have to? Right?) Also, I have no idea how much things like these cost nor how rare they are or if obtaining one is more complicated then walking into your local talismonger shop and picking one out.

I figure I'd learn this little bit on the fly and have it sink in just in time for 5th edition to come and change it up again in their attempt to "rebalance magic a bit." :P

I've been told it is possible that there is no such thing as a drain focus.  I haven't had an opportunity to look yet but I will.  If there isn't then there is now!  When the focus is active, it adds dice to your drain roll based on it's rating.

Csjarrat:  225 nuyen is fine per suit.  It is a business suit but nothing fancy.

Gustovness:  No roll is needed to find a corp mage suit.  As you said, common knowledge or incredibly easy matrix search.  Although... A roll on a search just to check for a glitch could be fun... no... don't do that actually.  Things are about to get convoluted enough with out adding silly things like that.

I'm at work at the moment and was about to do an IC post but there are some secret GM-y rolls to do and I don't have my special notes with me.  Check back tonight for an update which is going to be either very mundane or excitingly interesting depending on how those rolls go.  Hopefully the other two will get a chance to post before then.

Perhaps Puppeteer is able to accept that whether he participates or not, these people will die.  Just because he is participating in the run, doesn't mean he has to be the one doing the killings.  He might be opposed to what is happening but by being there, perhaps he can at least be of some assistance to the departing souls and maybe help make their transition easier and less painful.  If he doesn't go, with so many people dying, there are surely going to be at least a few not able to cope with it.  Angry and recently dead spirits are no laughing matter.

This is just some food for thought.  It's completely up to you how you want to play through it and I will adjust the story accordingly.  I much prefer a story based around the characters over characters being dragged through a story.  In my runs, players are always allowed to tell a Johnson "No." without being magically forced into the run anyway.  This is why I love RPGs, anything is and should be possible.  Hell, for all I care you four can hijack the plane and live out mundane lives in the Caribbean.  If you give me posts like "Puppeteer walks down isle 4 and browses through the watermelons."  I will give you posts like "You sort through the watermelons and rap on each one lightly.  (4d6.hits(5) → [1,3,4,3] = (0))  You find that they are all over ripe and unacceptable."
