As the title implies i'm new to the Stats side of SR, However I'm not new to the lore and the lingo as that I've known for a while. It wasn't until I started seeing some Youtube Vids of Home games that finally convinced me to take the great plunge into the shadows. I want to make my own character and be able to play them with other runners Missions and Home Games...if there is such a thing :P

Just one problem: I do not have the Core Rule Book on me due to budgeting issues* :( HOWEVER! I was told by a wise guru here that you veteran Runners could help me out. :) If anyone can devote their time and energies to helping me make a character sheet that would be great :) Any help still in general would be great. Thank you In advance to the Shadowcommunity at large for your time and any energies you devote to helping a fellow up and coming Player :)

*I intend to remedy this soon but for now i do not have the current CRB or Core Rule Book.

Chummer is a free program that works well for Mission characters, at least from what I've heard.
I use Hero Lab, but you have to pay to get it out of demo mode, and each expansion.

As for character design, the Shadowrun system rewards specialization over jack of all trades characters.
Fill your needs for your main role, then, if you have anything left, start on a minor secondary role.
Feel free to post any build you have here, there are plenty of people that will give advice.

I would *not* recommend Chummer 5e before you haven't made a few characters by hand. It's still a bit iffy and may generate characters that are not rules compliant (although it HAS a nice button to only show you mission-legal qualities but still)

@EiraHaexa Now that you mention it I have been reading the core rulebook :) And btw thank you for all those suppliments as well But the Core Rule Book has been a REAL Help so Thank you so much Omae :)

@fseperent Seeing you brought this up, I actually notice that and I already know what my guy is. He's pretty much a Mystic Adept with skills pertaining towards the Adept side. The only reason why he's a Mystic Adept is because he knows how to throw a couple of spells (to be honest he only knows two: Healing, and Manabolt...maybe more but frankly the less here the better :P) and pretty much he is a mid to Close Quarters specialist, more the latter and a swordsman to boot.

If there is a GM in the house who can walk me through the character Creation Process that would be awesome. I have a basic and rough Idea about my character, but I really want to make him so that he can not only partake of Home Games, but in Missions to boot (In other words I don't have to carry around two sheets and I can pretty much play Shadowrun in its entirety)

ALSO! I'm looking for a crew of Runners who do Online Games AND are willing to help a newb dive into this badassery :) Thank you all in advance and see you in the shadows.

Ok, let's see

The first thing you want is your priority
For your concept I suggest:

A: Attributes - Those are the most expensive to raise later and in general high Attributes are preferable in a lot of situations
B: Skills - for your concept you'll probably want a few points to spend - maxing out is recommended since Karma costs later on are pretty prohibitive
C: Magic - you aren't interested in many magic skills and only want a few spells, so this is ideal for you
B: Human - Gaining 3 special attribute points allows you to raise your magic to 6
E: Money - you are magic man, so you aren't that gear dependend

Getting Power Points is cost intensive: 5 Karma/point and only during Char gen. So you want to max them out

Get yourself some negative qualities: Code of Honor: Warrior is pretty good if you keep non-lethal options in your repertoire or you like to attack in the open. Get some other nice quirks for the other 10 points
National SIN will cost you money and make discretion very important, but it enables you to take part in the official world without investing heavily in a fake sin

Spend 30 Karma for your power points.
Spend 10 Karma for money
Look at positive qualities you like for the other 10 points (Quick Healer is highly recommended, as is Mentor Spirit)

Skills:
You have 5 points for a skill group: I recommend taking the Stealth Group: That one has no redundancies and the skills are valuable for every shadow runner

Get one ranged and one close combat skill
You want Gymnastics and Perception
One Social Skill of your choice (Con, Intimidate or Leadership are all viable ways to interact with your environment)

Spend the rest as you see fit

Spells: Heal, Manabolt leaves you with 3 more free spells:
I recommend: Detox, Mana Barrier and Increased Reflexes or an Attribute of your choice.

Detox allows you to take drugs for various effects without suffering afterwards. Mana Barrier is effective to protect you from enemy spells, spirits and even allows you to dispel others by intersection (look into the Mana Barrier chapter).
Since you want to do close combat damage, getting Increase Strength will allow you to do enough damage to be relevant. Increase Reflexes can free up 3.5 power points that you normally would want to spend on the adept ini improvement.

A word on Ini: You want it high. Not only will you be able to take out enemies before they can hurt you, you can also spend it to go full defense so you aren't  hurt by those still around.

For gear:
Get an Armor Jacket and a Lined Coat + Helmet
Get one ranged weapon of your choice
Get a low level lifestyle
Get a low level fake SIN (R2)
Get a commlink and a Trode Net
Get a Micro Transceiver
Get a Micro Welder
Get some Pepperpunch grenades
Spend what's left on drugs or a Yamaha for transport.

...at least that's how I'd build that concept of yours ;)

I'm not going to lie Spade, this is pretty awesome for a sheet. There are somethings I may have to tweak for personal preferences but overall a bangup job. Still, I would like a GM to walk me through it and help me understand both the sheet and the stuff laid into the rule book so I don't mess something up. PM Me if any GMs are willing to help. Thank you advance Spade, this sheet looks amazing. However, again, somethings I have to tweak to fit me :P...hope that wasn't offensive :3

Loving this site already, truly as a runner I'm home :)

I guarantee you that a new player makes less mistakes with Chummer than without.  Really, Google Chummer5a, download it, run it.

Plug in the basics Jack outlined and then fill in the ticky-tacky details.  Also check out the Archetype challenge link in my Sig for other ideas.

A rating 4 SIN might be better for you than 2 rating 2 SINs. I understand the arguement for one being burned, but always carrying a sword around is going to get you "carded".
