Title: Piloting Using VR vs Jumped In
Post by: firebug on <03-13-17/1929:05>
A small thing I noticed was that the chart on page 201 of the core book says you get a +2 bonus to Handling when piloting in VR...  Does this stack with the bonuses from a Control Rig?  If it does, then jeeze, that's quite a bit.  If not, it's just odd that a R1 Control Rig gives less handling than just basic VR control does.

No, but VR piloting isn't better than a rating 1 control rig. Remember, each rating of your control rig gives +1 die, +1 Handling AND decreases the threshold of any tests by 1 to a minimum of 1.

I would say, yes it applies. You're in VR when you jump in. If you're using Hot Sim you'd also get the +2 to all matrix actions, which includes vehicle tests.

p. 266 VR and Rigging:
Quote
When you’re jumped into a vehicle or other device, you’re
in Virtual Reality mode
. The control rig allows you to treat
Vehicle actions the same way you treat Matrix actions, so
any bonus you get to Matrix actions also apply to Vehicle
actions when you’re jumped in; this includes Vehicle Con-
trol Tests, Gunnery Tests, and Sensor Tests.
Just like in the Matrix, you have the option of using
cold-sim or hot-sim while rigging. If you’re using cold-
sim, you get +2D6 to your Initiative (3D6 total), and any
biofeedback  damage  you  take  is  Stun.  If  you’re  using
hot-sim,  you  get  +3D6  (4D6  total)  Initiative  dice,  and
a +1 dice pool bonus that applies to all Matrix test (in-
cluding Vehicle actions), but all biofeedback damage is
Physical damage.

Oddly enough it says +1 here, but in the Matrix section it says +2, and this one seems to refer to that rule. So I'd say +2 applies and this is a typo here.

Also remember Handling is only the Limit in a handling environment, so that +2 isn't a dicepool bonus or anything. So it's not really that crazy

Somewhere Aaron (I think) said that the hot-sim +2 stacked with the jumped-in +1. I'm on my phone atm and can't find the quote easily.

I kind of remember that. Its buried in the Errata/FAQ thread Aaron started at the release of 5e before he went dark and stopped answering there.
