Title: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Mulcarn on <08-26-16/1417:58>
Hail and well met!  We are looking for more players to join us in surviving what could only be called a Zombie Apocalpyse.  Seattle is on the brink of collapse.  Undead roam the streets at night and terrorize the living.  Knight Errant has proven to be powerless to stop the rising tide of darkness and destruction.  Lone Star has a new contract to police the city in place of Knight Errant and martial law has been declared.  Gangs and syndicates are quick to take the opportunity of the mass chaos, leaving the city even further divided.  Many are flocking under their banners for even the slightest hope of safety while the rest either riot in the streets or lock themselves up at night.

Magic is rare, the Awakened are hunted.  Fear of magic is at an all new high because of the walking dead.  The awakened community now face persecution during these dark times.  Witch-hunts aren't uncommon with all mages and adepts being blamed for the plague of zombies that haunt the city.  (You have been forewarned Magical PCs)

Gilga will be the Game Master for this campaign, which will start on October 1st.  You are not required to have read all of the previous threads and missions in regards to this campaign.  The story of all that is happening and has happened will be explained over the course of you playing and shadowrunning.

Characters can be made with either Standard priority or Sum2Ten, but Gilga has the final say.  There will be a number of house rules that Gilga, Jack and I have created that we will enforce during the course of the campaign.  I will post these rules below once I have them all in order.  Idealistically we would like to have 2-4 more payers for this campaign.  Have Fun!  ;D

Jack_Spade - Kynos, Ex-military Soldier
Mulcarn - Sovereign, Rogue Mage
Ennui - Kernal, Special Forces Sniper
Kuirem - Wheely, Matrix Rigger
Imladir - Nyx, Drake Adept
Mercy Merchant - Nicole Monet, Ex-corporate Medic
Stuttrboy -  Shiba Ayato, Swordmaster Adept

House Rules
Alchemy House Rule

Alchemical Preparations now require (Force) drams of reagents when made and they last indefinitely.  Meaning alchemists can now stockpile alchemical preparations without fear of them going to waste.  This also means mundanes can purchase preparations from the local alchemist shop to use for whatever their magical needs would be.

Alchemical Preparations are now sold at your local talismonger for (Force x 100) nuyen and they are (Force X 2) restricted.  You need an alchemist license to have a preparation or you can choose not to have one and it'd be illegal.

Fixation House Rule

Alchemical Preparations can be infused with karma during their creation.  If this is done, then the magical effect of the preparation will sustain itself (Similar to Quickening).  For all intents and purposes, the self-sustained alchemical preparation counts as a spell and is subject to disjoining and background count.  However, unlike quickened spells, fixated alchemical preparations have a duration of 1 month.

Fixated Alchemical Preparations now count as a Focus for determining Foci Addiction.

Quickening House Rule

The maximum number of spells you can quicken is equal to you Initiate Grade.

Quickened Spells now count as a Focus for determining Foci Addiction.

Invocation House Rule

Invocation is a metamagic ritual that allows a magician to instill more power into a bound spirit.  The net hits at the completion of this ritual determines what number of effects it has on the spirit.  This ritual takes one hour per Force of the spirit and requires (Force x 25) drams of reagents to be used up in the invocation.  The test is an Opposed Binding + Magic [Force] v. spirit's Force x 2, and you must resist Drain after the attempt.  The Drain Value is equal to twice the hits (not net hits) on the spirit’s defense test, with a minimum Drain Value of 2. If the spirit’s Force is greater than your Magic rating, the Drain is Physical; otherwise it’s Stun.  If you get no net hits, the spirit is unaffected.  If you get net hits, the spirit is transformed into a great form spirit.

A magician that knows the Art of Sacrifice and Invocation may create a truly frightening entity—a great form blood spirit. During the ritual, a metahuman victim must be killed; this is required to fuel the “ascension” of the Blood Spirit.

1. Increase Force by 1.
2. Gain Banishing Resistance power (p. 194, SG)
3. Gain an additional optional power (see powers listed by spirit type p. 394, SR5)
4. Gain greater spirit power appropriate to the spirit type (p. 137, SG)
5. Gain Astral Gateway power (p. 194, SG)
6. Gain Endowment power (p. 195, SG)

Engulf House Rule

Engulf and Energy Aura no longer stack with one another.  The damage from Engulf is applied once when successfully used and again at the start of the subsequent Combat Round, and each Combat Round thereafter.

Energy Aura converts Engulf to the element of the Aura.  This means that let's say you are using Engulf - Water while you have Energy Aura - Cold, the Engulf element will be switched to Cold.

Spirits House Rule

Spirits are now immune to their respective element.  All spirits are immune to the following - (Age, Pathogens, Toxins.)  All non-toxic spirits have the weaknesses - Allergy (Pollutants, Severe.) and Allergy (Radiation, Severe.)

Air Spirits - Electrical
Earth Spirits - Acid
Fire Spirits - Fire
Water Spirits - Cold
Noxious Spirits - Pollutant
Barren Spirits - Pollutant
Sludge Spirits - Pollutant
Nuclear Spirits - Radiation
Elemental Effects
ACID DAMAGE

Acid damage is Physical.  Resist with Body + Armor + (Chemical Protection?) (Chemical Seal provides full immunity?).  In addition to its normal damage, it also reduces the rating of any Armor it hits by 1.  If the acid isn’t removed from the target (by washing it off, or because the acid is from a spell or power and evaporates into mana after the spell or power ends), then the acid continues to burn.  Each Combat Turn the base DV of the acid is decreased by 1 and damage is applied again.  The acid also continues to burn through armor reducing the target’s Armor rating by 1 until the acid is removed, neutralized, or loses all its base DV.  The Armor reduction should be applied to worn Armor first but could be applied to Armor accessories (+Armor items) if the gamemaster allows.

COLD DAMAGE

Cold damage is Physical.  Resist with Body + Armor + Insulation.  Additionally, cold damage can make armor brittle, liquids freeze, lubricants gum up, etc.  Make a simple Armor Test for anything directly hit.  If the armor gets no hits, it breaks and cannot be used as armor.  It can be repaired with the Building & Repairing rules.  In the case of a glitch, it’s destroyed irreparably.  With a critical glitch the armor breaks irreparably in a dangerous way.

ELECTRICITY DAMAGE

Electricity damage is either Physical or Stun depending on the source and/or the target.  Resist with Body + Armor + Non-conductivity.  An Electricity attack that does no damage also does not apply it's secondary effect.  You incur a -1 dice pool penalty on all actions and Defense Tests, but not Damage Resistance Tests, for 1 Combat Turn and an immediate Initiative Score reduction by 5.  These debuffs don't stack with themselves, but the length of the penalty is extended by 1 Combat Turn for each successful damaging attack while a character is affected.

Electronic equipment and drones can also be affected by Electricity damage. They never suffer Stun damage so Electricity damage is Physical when used against electronics and drones. They resist damage as usual and suffer a secondary effect if they take even a single box of damage.

The secondary effect for electronics and drones damaged by Electricity damage is shorting out or overloading. In game terms this is reflected as secondary Matrix damage equal to half the Physical damage rounded down. Vehicles can be damaged by Electricity attacks but do not suffer any secondary effects.

FIRE DAMAGE

Fire damage is Physical.  Resist with Body + Armor + Fire Resistance.  To determine if something catches fire, roll Armor + Fire Resistance - Fire Penetration.  The threshold of this test is the net hits rolled on the fire-based attack.  When something catches fire, the fire has an initial Damage Value of 3. This damage is caused at the end of each Combat Turn, and the DV increases by 1 at the start of each subsequent Combat Turn until the item is completely destroyed or the fire is put out. You can fight the fire a number of ways (water, smothering, etc.), making an Agility + Intuition Test and reducing the fire’s DV by 1 for each hit. Remember, as long as the fire is burning it can ignite any nearby flammables, including furniture, vehicles, foliage, and elves.

POLLUTANT DAMAGE

Pollutant damage is Physical.  Resist with Body + Chemical Protection (Chemical Seal provides full immunity).  If the damage is not fully resisted then make a Toxin Resistance Test (see below).

Vector: Contact or Inhalation.
Speed: Immediate
Penetration: 0
Power: (Net Hits of attack)
Effect: Anaphylactic Shock (see below)

Anaphylactic Shock: If the damage from the attack with this effect is not completely resisted, the victim enters anaphylactic shock, resulting in muscle spasms and autonomic system failure if left untreated. The victim continues to take 1 box of unresisted Physical damage each Combat Turn until death, or until the victim is treated as per Stabilization (see Stabilization, p. 209, SR5).

RADIATION DAMAGE

Radiation damage is Physical.  Resist with Body + Radiation Shielding.  Make an immediate Toxin Resistance Test with the following formula: Body + Willpower + Radiation Shielding (Chemical Protection mods and Chemical Seals do nothing for this test).

Vector: Contact
Speed: Immediate
Penetration: 0
Power: (Net Hits of attack)
Effect: Nausea (see Toxins, p. 408, SR5)
Ah, great to hear back from you.

Kynos is ready and eager to bust some heads - maybe even some of those responsible for the shit show Seattle  ;D

I didn't read the chapter one, but I'd be interested to play in this unusual setting. When you're talking about undead, I understand it's "real" zombies, and not "just" infected?

By the way, would karma creation be ok?
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Mulcarn on <08-26-16/1509:52>
You are correct, although it's both technically.  Ghouls, Vampires and Shedim make up the Undead faction of the campaign.  Create your character to deal with them accordingly.  (Don't skimp out on social skills though.  Fighting and combat is only going to be 25% of gameplay at best)

Karma creation should be fine, I don't have the final say however.

Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Imladir on <08-26-16/1651:08>
There's one exception, but otherwise I tend to make my characters more socials than anything else so it should be okay.

Noted for karma creation. It was more to know if there was some philosophical reason to not include it in the available methods, or just that Sum2Ten was meant as a "standard creation rules apply" statement ^^
I might have a concept requiring karmagen though. I'll have to think about it.

By the way, in addition to Jack's Kynos, what are the characters still active?

As far as I know it's just Kynos and Sovereign.  Both can be found here.  http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=21756.0 (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=21756.0)

Ok.
Maybe some of the others will resurface (if Gilga accepts them of course) when then see this, but I'll look into it thanks.

Post by: gilga on <08-27-16/0231:38>
Hi, Thanks for organizing it Mulcarn and yes karma gen is acceptable.

Some lessons learned from the first edition, we are still looking at an open world theme where you can generally choose what kind of work you take and with what NPCs you develop a relationship.
I'll try to be more focused in lines of plots and have less conflicting character interests. I think I kind of over did it first time.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Imladir on <08-27-16/0245:23>
Ok cool. I have a first outline, but I'm not yet satisfied by it. And since it's a bit...well...off the beaten track, I'll prepare another character, more standard too. That way when you say no to the first one, I'll have another one ready :P

No problems at all regarding the "less conflicting characters interests", that's not something I like anyway ^^

I'm also interested in this and I working on a character.

I guess I should have mentioned this before but if you're interested in playing you can post your characters here.  Even if it's just a rough draft or base outline.  Gilga, Jack and I will help you out with the process or if you have any questions.

I'm waiting on some feedback from Gilga, so no questions at this point :)

You still have spots I was trying to upload my character yesterday.  still rough around the edges though.

And I'm good, a shiny (weird) new character with a fresh "Ok" stamp of approval.

It might be because im looking at it through a smartphone but I can barely read that format.  Other than that it looks okay, what did you use to build her?  Priority or Sum2Ten or Karmagen?

Sum2Ten, with Metatype & Attributes at C, Skills and Ressources at B and Magic E.

You have ultra high Agility but extremely low Reaction and Intuition (not to mention that your ini calculation seems off)
That will severely affect your options in combat (not to mention your defense)

But especially the low Intuition will crimp your style significantly as a hacker.
Small Unit Tactics also hinge on INT (Although I welcome a second character with that knowledge skill for a bit of synergy)

Post by: Ennui on <09-01-16/0745:59>
She's not really a hacker, it's more about combat options and tactics.  But yeah I just didn't have the points spread.  I figure I'll probably use edge in combat until I get better at that stuff.

The format looks better here. https://blerg.obsidianportal.com/characters/elven-tactician

Relying on Edge is very dangerous in this campaign.
Maybe it's just Kynos' charming personality, but the opposition so far was pretty brutal. Especially the low defense might cause you some frustration.

But I get it if you want to play a certain concept - I just wanted to share some insights and experiences with a soon to be fellow player  :)
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: gilga on <09-01-16/0928:27>
I attempt to scale the opposition to challenge you, so far I am not sure I even caused Kynos to bleed. ;)
Sometimes it is difficult as well a challenge to one is a death threat to another, but I got the impression of tough opposition form more than one character.

Yeah I would say unless you are just focusing on bricking guns and cyber for your decking skills you are going to be rather underpowered in other scenarios.  I don't know what Jack means about defense though.  Do you mean Firewalls?  I think it makes for an okay Face/razorgirl with a twist, you might be spreading yourself a bit thin though.

Hey, are you still recruiting? I'm completely new in the Play-by-Post format so anything I should know before I sign?

I had this Combat Medic character for some time that I wanted to play so I guess this is a good opportunity. Build with Sum to Ten : B - Attributes; B - Skills; B - Resources; D - Human; E - Magic.

For the backstory I will try to keep it simple :

He worked as a combat medic for more than 20 years in the UCAS military. Disgusted with the growing corruption and seeing soldiers dying not to protect their country but the interests of whatever corporation was pulling the string at that time he tried to stand up. Of course he wasn't able to do anything and has to stand down for that. Through his contacts he managed to get a job in Lone Star for some years until he finally decided to stop the military life. With the recent mess he quickly realized that it's still too early for him to retire and he is back to defend his country, but this time not in the military who had let him down but from the shadows.

The character sheet is in the attachments. Tell me if there is anything wrong, I still have 14 Contact points to distribute because I'm not sure what will be useful.

@gilga

I'm not complaining (But Kynos did in fact get a nose bleed... from when the drugs stopped working  ;D ), but I'd hope that this time the characters have a chance to interact with each other for greater periods of time  ;)

@Stuttrboy
I meant defense as in "defense during a gun fight" as it was my impression that the character with high agi and boosted strength is meant to participate in meat space battles.

Like I said, I'll try to get you more of a group like runs. I think having everyone follow a different agenda was a bit too much to be sustainable.

Is there a defense skill that lets you dodge bullets?  I admit i'm new to 5th ed and so is ennui what defense do you mean?
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: gilga on <09-01-16/1019:19>
It boils down to roll Reaction + intuition Vs the attack.

There are interrupts actions that boost your defense in exchange for initiative (full defense and so forth). and there are some spells/adept powers and augmentations that give additional bonuses.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Ennui on <09-01-16/1024:23>
I figured that's what he meant.  I dont see how to tighten it up though.  I suppose I could invest in some more drugs to supplement reaction boosting with edge.  But im happy to listen to any suggestions on how to tighten her up.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Jack_Spade on <09-01-16/1233:42>
Well, for one thing, you are spending a lot of money to raise your attributes with ware, when you could instead lower your wealth and increase attributes.
If you are up for drug use, you could invest in a relatively cheap narco geneware and use medical grade Kamikaze for +3 STR +2 AGI +2 BOD +2 WIL and +2d6 Ini

@Kuirem
That's quite a lot of drugs your character has on hand... Nice  ;)
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Imladir on <09-01-16/1244:52>
Maybe move two points from agility to reaction? Your agility is very high but 4d to dodge attacks seems...low... Especially considering that in full defense, you're at 8d. If you're targeted, there's a good chance you're hit (unless we're fighting burnout addicts, but somehow I don't think that will be the case...)
Good thing is that in contrast my own character doesn't seem so bad in terms of defense, we'll just have to pair up, that way we may really have to fight addicts to keep the opposition at our level :p

Oh and there's Kuirem waiting for an answer, did his post went unnoticed?
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Kuirem on <09-01-16/1252:15>
@Jack_Spade

As a medic he has his... sources.

@Ennui

You could reduce Body and Willpower to 3 to increase Reaction and Intuition. Body/Willpower are better at odd numbers because that's where you got an extra box on your condition monitors.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Mulcarn on <09-01-16/2030:54>
@Ennui

I'd lower Body by 3 and Willpower by 1.  Those free points could be used to raise Intuition and maybe Logic to boost those decking skills.

@Jack

Could be worse, you could always get the Seven-7 gas trap in the sewers.  Kinda reminds me of playing Fallout New Vegas and on the hardest setting.

@Gilga

Having characters with their own personal goals and interests are fine as long as they don't conflict with one another.  Else the game world starts burning down, one fireball at a time.  ;)

that's the basic idea, she's a wash out of Tir Special forces.  I'm still working on the backstory.

Ok, here's mine, done with Gilga. I may change things here and there, but by and large that should be it.

... ??? ;D  Gilga is going to have a lot of fun tormenting her.  The character looks fine, an AMAZING Face with some great defensive capabilities in the form of your dragon powers.  You should have more contacts with a charisma that high.  Be prepared for Background Count making life very difficult for her though.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment

Yeah, I'm looking at how I can add the Heightened Concern power in there to alleviate the BGC issue. The QI focus has to disappear for example, in the BGC it won't activate.
As for the contacts... Sure. Can I has your karma? :D
There are more than 150 points on the drake side, so there were many sacrifices... And contacts were some of them. One way to explain this is that she just got to Seattle and didn't have the time to know many people.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Mulcarn on <09-02-16/0935:11>
Expect a BGC of 1 in most parts of Seattle, and a 2 in the Barrens for example.  With places like Glow City to be between 3-6 depending on how close you get to the nuclear reactors.  (Not that you, or anyone for that matter will be sojourning there anytime soon)  The Qi focus can be dropped entirely due to the above reasons.

@Raiderjoseph

They are.  We had one way, way back when the campaign first started.  But he left shortly after it all started.  Personally I consider them to be inferior deckers in all but one aspect (Unless thay have been errated recently) but if you want to try one out then go ahead.

@Kuirem

I'm still examining Band Aid and I don't have much of an opinion about him yet.  He looks well made on first glance.

Ill post both then see which would be least likely to die in the campaign.

Passive is a Troll Vatjob who managed to piss off Herr Brackhaus on a run gone wrong. He had to hide. Fast. And he had to go somewhere absolutely NO ONE would think to look for him. Hence the Zombie Apocolypse. So he threw away everything and managed to get to Seattle. He needs to build a new career and survive. His Bioware combined with his Dermal enhancement make him look bigger then the average Troll. Hence the distinctive style. He is a rather chill guy who is a bit sleepy most of the time. But he is nice enough when you give him a beer and/or a quiet place to rest. Doesn't talk much either.

What do you think?

Edit: Yes I know. Made revisions.

One punch troll, welcome.

If you are going with that I strongly suggest striking callus. for easy +2 to unarmed damage.
(not that you lack any).  If it is not for RP reasons, orthskin is usually better than dermal plating. Especially as it gives you upgrades (like shark skin that gives +1 reach for unarmed).

Also, you should be able to get a lot of millage from thrown weapons.

Did you take born rich or bio-compatibility?

Finally, not a 'thing' - though but I would try to go for troll A for 6 edge.

Biocompatibility. Striking calluses are on the to do list. And Id prefer the Dermal Plate for the reasons that are simply... They look cooler on him. And isn't that what really matters?
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Stuttrboy on <09-04-16/0026:53>
quick question.  Does the background count effect magic bonuses to initiative?  like would the adept power that gives +2d6 initiative  have -2 dice to the pool?
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: gilga on <09-04-16/0112:23>
No, background counts only effect skill tests that are linked in some manner to magic (so your driving skills are diminished).

I'll do, but in the mean time I have to tell you, your chara is illegal:
Restricted Gear can only be taken once in chara gen

Also, born rich doesn't do anything for you if you aren't converting more than 10 Karma into money.
Dermal Plating doesn't stack with your normal Troll armor. You have essence left, so instead of dermal plating and bone density  you could have good results with used titanium bones.

I can also tell you, that your Metalink won't cut it with the noise levels throughout the city. Mobility will be a real issue since public transport has some real issues during the zombiecalypse.

Wanted and Distinctive Style could get you into trouble really fast especially in combination with your non-existent stealth (which also isn't healthy for an unarmed combatant)

Finally, your skill selection is a bit redundant (an amazing feat considering how few skill points you have). 5 Karma would give you the Firearms Group (Pistols, Automatics, Longarms)

That's all I see for the moment. Have to look again when I'm not sleep deprived.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Kuirem on <09-04-16/1824:27>
Restricted Gear can be taken twice at chargen but the second one will have to be used after chargen.

Anyway I think there is ways to improve it : First take Prototype Transhuman instead of the second Restricted Gear (drop the Muscle Augmentation one), given your character super focus on one thing he probably came out of a tube. Honestly I would probably even drop the other Restricted Gear and just get Muscle Toner Used at Rating 3.

If you want to stay on Bone Density might as well take it to Rating 4 Used. But getting Bone Lacing (Titanium) Used is even better for even more dice to soak.

Drop that Synaptic Boosters for Synaptic Acceleration. Synaptic Boosters is not compatible with Drugs while Synaptic Acceleration is so you will get more or less the same result if you add Cram. You can even add Reaction Enhancers on top of Synaptic Acceleration.

With your current build you have 1.34 essence, you hit at 18P and soak 15 damage (not counting the jacket) all that for 466000 Nuyen. Here is what I propose :

Bone Lacing (Titanium) (Used), Dermal Plating (Rating 3), Reaction Enhancers (Rating 2) (Alphaware), Muscle Augmentation (Rating 3) (Used), Muscle Toner (Rating 3) (Used), Striking Callus (x2) (Alphaware), Synaptic Acceleration

With Prototype Transhuman we get 1.32 essence, 17P unarmed, 17 soak for 282750 Nuyen. You also lose 1 AGI.

If you don't know what to do with these extra Nuyen and want to use the Restricted Gear get yourself a Suprathyroid Gland and drop the Reaction Enhancers. It will get you to +4 in both STR and AGI combined with the Muscle Toner/Augmentation and you will get +1 BOD/REA as well. It drops you to 58450 Nuyen without couting those you get with Karma.

On a final note it's a shame not to get a Smartlink on such a heavy wared chum. +2 dice with guns is good when you can't be in melee.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Stuttrboy on <09-04-16/1935:48>
Another question.  Does prototype transhuman ignore restrictions on gear?  For instance will prototype transhuman be enough to get muscle toner 4 or would I need to use restricted gear as well?
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Raiderjoseph on <09-04-16/2250:06>
Where is the info on synaptic acceleration? And yeah I am doing an overhaul.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: gilga on <09-04-16/2312:03>
prototype transhuman gives you 1 essence for bioware, you still need restricted gear if you want t o put something exceptional there.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment

Synaptic Acceleration is a Transgenic in Chrome Flesh. It provides +1 Initiative, +1 Initiative Dice and +1 melee/ranged defense dice. Incompatible with augmentation that raise initiative but compatible with Magic, Drugs and augmentation that raise Reaction.

OK, here is my first stab at a character.  Please look at it and give me some ideas on how I went wrong and what I can do to fix it.

Simone Hastings, AKA Rocky Love, is an "Exotic Dancer and Escort" at the "All You Want" strip club and brothel in the Auburn Center Mall.  The work is not hard and the income is steady.  She is not the best=looking whore in the club, but she can dance and is energetic in her skills at entertaining clients.  The small wage and large tips allow her to pursue her real love - rigging.  She loves being the machine, whether it is her modified van or one of her drones.  She cares for her drones like they were her children.  Her birth name is Jana Varlock and she came to the Renton District strip club by a roundabout way that started when she was in the service and was assigned as part of a machinegun team.  The team was left assigned as part of a military operation against a rogue NAN tribal militia, but was left stranded when the higher command made a last minute treaty, sacrificing the team.  Jana and her teammates conducted a classical retreat by combat operation and almost made it out.....almost.  UCAS forces had to watch from their side of the border as the team was surrounded and exterminated less that 500m from safety.  Jana was evacuated to the UCAS after seven months of captivity, then court-martialed for crimes against a friendly nation.  Cashiered, she went home, but no one would have anything to do with her.  Broke and near starving, she was offered a job as a stripper and prostitute.

She changed her name to Simone Hastings and started working several nights a week, using the rest of her time taking odd jobs for various crime lords.  Her implants are courtesy of the UCAS military, as is most of her skill training.  Always a good linguist, she has learned the languages of the larger syndicates so that she could know what what was being said behind her back.  The Blood Mountain Boys is a Renton Go-Gang that is making a comeback after being decimated when KE moved into Seattle and wanted to prove a point.  Simone has undergone the skill test to become a member and proudly wears their brown and red colors.

Restricted Gear can be taken twice at chargen but the second one will have to be used after chargen.

That's factual wrong:
RF p.149
RESTRICTED GEAR
COST: 10 KARMA PER ITEM
Right place, right time, right friend, or the stars aligned. No matter the reason, the character has managed to acquire or get a line on one piece of really hard-to find gear she absolutely had to have. The character can take this quality up to three times; only one of those times can occur at character creation. Selecting it at character creation allows the character to buy a piece of gear with an Availability of up to 24 (circumventing the normal Availability limit at character creation). After character creation, taking this quality lets the character purchase one piece of gear with an Availability up to 18 during play with just a single commcall. They do, however, have to pay an extra thirty percent for the item.

After generation the quality usually isn't worth it since you can't take much money from generation to play, it's usually not worth it for expensive augmentations (with time and a good face you can get most ware delivered sooner than you could get the money for it)

@Mercy
You might want to think about that Code of Honor again. Being a rigger means needing loads of cash to replace broken gear. Giving away 50% income will be a real pain - especially with the kinds of payouts we had so far (which weren't particularly small, but not especially big either and its a long time between paydays)

Thanks for the look-over, Jack.  I had thought of that as well, but was stumbling at taking 15 negative qualities that made any more sense.  Any ideas?

What about an 8 point prejudice against the UCAS military and a 7 point flashback of the last battle when she was captured?

Loads:

Impassive (7 Karma, Hard Targets) -1 to your Social Limit
Did you just call me dumb (3 Karma, turn normal social glitches into critical ones)
EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT (5 Karma, your RCC for example)

to name a few.

Also, I'd think about raising your attributes and lowering your money. Willpower is damn important if you don't want your brain fried during rigging. STR remarkably less so. Reaction could use another point.
Bone lacing is nice if your main role is going toe to toe, but as the rigger you'd be better off with some reaction enhancers.
Cybereyes aren't so good for you either. Get a datajack (or two) instead and use Sensors with Electronic Warfare - which you are sorely lacking
The bumblebee has been nerved severely in regard to speed. You might be better off with a blimp - those are cheap to replace at least and can be outfitted with a sniper rifle, so they won't be in any immediate danger. For close in you can get an anthro drone like the sparring drone and have it wear armor - much cheaper and durable that way.

You are also lacking autosofts - especially smartsoft for an easy +2 to hit with your drones.

Edit:
Flashbacks are pretty crippling for a combat character, I wouldn't recommend them for you - especially not with that low willpower
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Mercy Merchant on <09-05-16/0330:09>
@Jack  The Bumblebee has its speed boosted to 4, is that too slow?

The RCC has EW of 6 so would that not work?

I like Emotional Attachment so will look around for a couple of others to get to 10 more.

I cannot use the autosoft whe sharing programs from the RCC, right?  So is it better to have that or maybe find a way to add it to the RCC?

I took the bone lacing because I am under the impression that I will not be staying in the van while the action is going on and was using it to help with my armor.  My experience in this campaign so far leads me to think I might need it.  Or should I plan on remaining in the van and using the drones from a distance?
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Jack_Spade on <09-05-16/0354:34>
The Bumblebee now starts with a speed of 0 (it's been nerved in Rigger 5) so you'd need to upgrade it severely (it's also very expensive, which is why I'd argue for a cheaper drone)

Bone lacing only helps you to soak damage - four dice to be precise. Getting +4 to Reaction can potentially eliminate all damage you'd receive and also helps you to be a better driver/pilot.

You can always get better external armor than the jacket (Gel Pads + Murder Armor e.g.)

So he left Germany this time because his Team whom he ran with almost out of the Vat got geeked. He felt himself as the survivor to be responsible. He tried to find new employment but without his team he doesn't have many other options but to try and find employment elsewhere. He tried to smuggle himself and ended up in Seattle due to a logistics misunderstanding...

Now he has to survive his new home.

He found a fixer amongst the shadows. And thats the start. His sole momento is a Dog tag that states his subject number from the vat.

Nicole Monet was a promising physician in the Renraku system.  She was born to mid-level corporate parents and had everything she could really ask for.  She was educated in the the right schools and given opportunities only available to a small percentage of the population.  She grew up to be a gifted surgeon and could look ahead to a lifetime of ease in the corporate structure.  She married the son of a rising corporate star and was on the list to be allowed to have her first child when everything went wrong.

Unforeseen complications on the operating table led to the unfortunate death of a senior VP and the family started looking for someone to blame and the surgeon and her team were the obvious choices.  Nicole, her assisting physician, and all three nurses became the subject of a massive medical malpractice lawsuit.  The incarceration and trial lasted seven months, during which time her husband was allowed to annul their marriage and her parents formally disowned her.  Nicole was summoned to the offices of the company president and given the news that she was to be temporarily let go.  She would be given a chance to earn a place back in the corporation through service on the streets.

It has now been three years and no advancement seems to be coming her way.  Renraku still has its claws into her, but she has used some useful contacts to set herself up as a go-to girl for the various criminal syndicates in Seattle, which gives her access to medicines and equipment she cannot get elsewhere.

OOC:  Still a work in progress.  I would like to work a bit on some contacts but do not know where to get the karma from.  Please take a look at this one and let me know if it is an improvement.

So right now we have :

What could go wrong? By the way I made my contacts :

Doc. Chapman, male Human DocWagon Medic. Connection 2; Loyalty 5. Robert Chapman served under the same division as Band Aid and they have been friends for a long time. He left the military life five years ago and signed a contract with DocWagon.

Jerry, male Elf Fixer. Connection 3; Loyalty 1. Band Aid met Jerry while he was working under Lone Star. The elf was apparently an attorney and was here to defend his unjustly accused clients (Fixers really love that one). It didn't take long for Band Aid to put two and two together and get his number just in case…

Okwuoma Nebeolisa, female Troll Street Dealer. Connection 1; Loyalty 2. Okwuoma is certainly not a good peddlar but she knows the street and where to get cheap drugs.

Maybe Nicole should have called Jerry as a lawyer during her malpractice lawsuit.  The one she was provided "at great expense" did nothing but tell her she was going to lose everything (which she did...house, husband, parents, corporate privileges, etc) and advise her to take the punishment without arguing about it or things would get even worse.  She has often wondered just how much worse things could have gotten.

Looking over the characters:

@Raiderjoseph
Titanium bones only give you resistance dice against direct damage, they don't add to body (otherwise they'd help you fight infections and poisons)
All in all you don't really need Prototype Transhuman (Unless you plan to get more ware in the future)

@Stuttrboy
Your character will be dead within six months.
Paying back your debt  of 75k Nuyen is nearly impossible. You have to pay back at least 10% interest per month, so 7500 without reducing your debt.
If you don't manage that you take 1 P damage for every 20.000 you owe, so 3 damage that you can't heal until you pay.
(Believe me: Kynos had the devil of a time to just get rid of his 20.000 debt and for that he had to follow a super yakuza around half the globe, breaking his neck so hard his head exploded)

Also, In debt replaces the ability to exchange karma for nuyen, so the 8000 aren't possible either

The Ultimax Rainforest has been nerved:
ACC DAM AP MODE RC AMMO AVAIL COST
5 11P -2 SA/BF (1) 18(C) 8R 2,800¥
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12034805/Shadowrun%20Missions%20Chicago%20FAQ%20Update%20v1.2.pdf p.19
since otherwise this weapon would be insane.

Your Ini seems off: With your ki-focus you should get +2 Reaction +2W6 Ini

Mystic armor 1 will be unusuable with the pervasive 1 point background count.

@jack_spade Thanks for the input about the money I'm making some changes that will hopefully reduce some of the cost but if gilga wants to kill my character I guess he is allowed since he's the game master.  Hopefully there will be opportunities to make some money in the game so I can keep paying on my debts.

The qi focus brings my level 2 enhanced reflexes to level 3 thus the +3 +3d6.

When I asked gilga about magic background count and dicepools he said it only effected skill checks associated with the magic, Armor and damage resistance shouldn't be affected should it?  If I could get "word of god" on this I would appreciate it so I can make any necessary changes. Also it's mystic armor 2, the 1 is the magic points spent.

You did not say Axe Medic with a shotgun.  Being out and among the criminal society has taught her that she needs to be prepared.  She takes her rolling street clinic from place to place.  Hmmmm, speaking of that I might need to to shift money about to put a shop (medical) in the van to give me the proper equipment to do that.  Otherwise it is just a van with a doctor and a medkit.  OK, I can adapt the character a bit.

Also, I hope that it is not a problem to have two medics on the team?

Ah I see, that wasn't clear to me from your write up.

In the case of In Debt its not the GM wanting to kill you, it's the quality
"Never take on more debt than you can take care of comfortably" is a lesson everyone needs to learn (IP as OP)  ;D

But again: This advice is based on past experiences - this time around it might play out quite differently (But seeing that no one in your ranks has thought to invest into negotiation skills I predict that the payout of our missions won't increase too much) ;)

@Jack  Yeah, love that Valkyrie module.  The van has one installed.

And I agree about the In Debt quality.  I know that Gilga likes it, but it takes a game with a lot of income to make that work and so far this one isn't that sort of campaign.  He says he will work with you, but that sort of violates the spirit of the negative quality.  I mean, if everyone could borrow 50000 and not have to worry about it, we all would do it.  The quality is supposed to be a negative for a reason and finding that sort of cash every month just to pay the interest is not guaranteed.  All of the other monthly cots need to be considered as well, such as lifestyle costs and repair/replacement of equipment and munitions expended.  Lots of costs inherent to this game and I just think the In Debt is a hard one to add on.  Personal opinion.

I admit I'm a bit worried about having two medics, especially since they are both oriented fighting and medic is really a secondary job anyway (with all the medkit and autodoc out there). This team is really lacking in Hacking and Magic I hope it won't be a problem. I am thinking about switching if Mercy Merchant wants to keep his/her Medic.

About the debit. I like to couple it with trust fund as it gives you some money and a roof over your head. also take into consideration that BGC effect KI foci and reduce their force. So you might want to think about it.
Also recall that you owe 50 percent more than you borrow interest rate are 10 percent monthly. The rewards are similar to before perhaps higher now that you can negotiate.

You can play a full mage if you want.  You don't have to be Mundane if you think that being magical would be more fun.  Just keep in mind that magical PCs wilk have a hard time in this campaign.  You will literally be blamed for the current state of affairs.  Also keep in mind that your Magic rating probably wont increase beyond 6.  My character has 7 due to the exceptional attribute quality and its not going any higher than that.  Mainly to keep the "Magic is rare" aspect of the campaign in order.  And if it goes any higher his shadowrunning career will probably end.

I haven't run a Decker yet but it could be a first experience, missed that we already had a Mage. I'm also building some half hacker character that could fit, especially if  Ennui has some skill. I'm working on a Rigger/Hacker that should fit well.

The character is a drake and an adept, so you can't have it much more magical than that anyway ;)
And I like it as it is. Not sure it will go that far since there are some huge deficiencies, but it should be interesting nonetheless, especially if I do it right.

My skill is enough for combat tactics and VERY basic stuff.  I'm basically focusing on bricking weapons or cyber for tactical advantages and i've been doing a rather major overhaul.  Though I think my debt is manageable with my job.  Apparently electronic witness and dayjob work quite well together.  Don't worry I will edit to protect the identities of those I work with.

I think my Way is pretty important so I could only swing a 5 point trust fun I'm not sure that would help much but I'm also more than happy to take suggestions on where to cut.  I could dump my bike  and my lifestyle if I exchange Perceptive with Trustfund 5 and shave 20k off the in debt, which would bring me down to 45K after that I'm not seeing much else...other than incresing the hours at my day job.

@Stuttrboy

You could drop your way in favor of Prototype Transhuman. Your way give you +1 PP and Prototype Transhuman will give you back one Magic so +1 PP as well. Even better is that you can pick the way later and get +1.25 PP discount instead since you will be 6 Magic. It will free you 10 Karma for your positive qualities.

It would also allow you to pick Enhanced Reflexes all with PP since it is your most important power and use the Qi Focus on Astral Perception instead which isn't a power that need to be active at all time. Foci are visible in the Astral so in a world where people hate Awakened it might be a good idea not to have it active at all time.

@Ennui

Perfect because my concept of Rigger/Hacker only has access to Sleaze action so having a secondary hacker able to Data Spike will complete nicely. I'm still working on it but I will post the sheet as soon as possible.

You having a van is probably the strongest selling point   ;D
I'll have another look at it, but from a first glance it seems to be quite alright.
The only thing I find a bit... curious is the combat axe. Your strength isn't that high and it's hardly a concealed weapon. A shock glove/fur combo and unarmed skill would give you the same damage and be much more unobtrusive.
But if your concept is a Human Medic with a Battleaxe, who am I to tell you otherwise  ;D

Yeah, I have heard that a girl who owns a van can make up for some charisma deficiencies.  Oh, and she speaks German, too.  Not a native speaker, but she should be able to understand what is being said and toss in some swear words here and there.

I went for the axe for a couple of reasons.  It has some reach, and can make a really neat cut into some ghouls.  Really no real reason, though.  But it looks good to be standing on top of a mound of ghoul corpses and leaning on a large battleaxe.

Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Kuirem on <09-07-16/0329:38>
@Mercy Merchant

The big problem of Medic in Shadowrun is that it is really a secondary role. That's something you do for maybe 1/10 of a run. Even worst is that a Medkit or Autodoc can do it pretty well and serve as a secondary medic if the main is down so having two medics is really overkill imo. But worry not, I don't mind switching around and as I said before I'm working on an other interesting concept (at least for me :P).

Now for your build as I said medic is secondary so what's your main role? Obviously Combat! And the first problem is your initiative. 10 + 1d6 is low for a main fighter, even if you add drugs on top of that. Consider some ware to increase initiative a bit, maybe Boosted Reflexes since you are a bit low on Nuyen.

Attribute could be switched around a bit. LOG 6 is overkill if you only use it for Medic (don't forget that a Medkit Rating 6 is cheap and provide +6 dice so Medicine are really not hard roll), you could go for 5 or even 4 and raise AGI to 6. WIL 5 is also a bit much considering you don't seems heavily based on drugs and don't have Drain, Biofeedback to resist. I think you've spend too much Karma into Attributes considering you have Attributes A. For example BOD 3 AGI 6 REA 5 STR 3 CHA 3 INT 5 LOG 4 WIL 3 should do the job nicely without spending karma. Buying CHA or BOD with Karma could allow you to keep your WIL 5 or raise LOG to 5 and STR to 4. STR 4 will give you 1 extra point of recoil compensation so it's not a bad idea.

Your character lack a Sneaking skill, it's risky for a Shadowrunner.

Try to get a better Commlink than the Meta Link, these things are easily bricked/hacked. Renraku Sensei is a good deal in term of Rating/Price. Transys Avalon will seriously slow down Hackers.

Don't forget that a Medkit Rating 4+ need to be carried around (hanheld case size) while a Rating 3 fits in a pocket. Since you have high Medic skills and you already got a Rating 6 in the van it might be better to switch for a Rating 3.

When I can afford it I like to add Contacts with Image Link, Low Light Vision or Image Magnification, and Flare Compensation. Then putting a Thermographic Vision + Vision Enhancement 2/3 on Glasses/Helmet. That way I'm ready for whatever light the GM throw at me. Earbuds with Select Sound Filter 1 + Audio Enhancement 2 is also nice.

Love your Van with the Rigger interface!

Until you take the penalties (such as conditions where you're often looking at a -2, again -2 if the patient is emerged or awakened, and -1 per 2 full points of essence lost) into account at least... Not that they necessarily make the rolls hard, but it's not that easy to heal enough to be really effective (even if 1P healed is better than nothing).

The main problem is that with the noise in the barrens, it would always be disconnected.

With that medic, I'd expect Kamikaze to be a given (+2 STR is great for an axe swinger), especially since you can heal up that drug damage yourself.

By the way: If you have problems to pay for a good commlink a bit of hardware skill and some electronics packs can turn any device into a commlink - an R6 medkit for example...

It's still much easier roll than Combat/Sneaking/Hacking because it's unopposed. I really don't think someone who use LOG only for Medical need 6, losing a couple of dice isn't too bad on this skill.

Only if you use the optional rules of Bandage & Bullets.

Pretty sure the core also have those rule on Medkit size :

Well for Stuttr I already mentioned using Prototype to get back to 6 Magic. The character is alright, not the strongest katana adept on the street but for that he would need to go Dwarf, Ork or Troll for more STR(it's not too hard to do btw, just switch Magic and Metatype and use all your Special Attribute to get 6 Magic, you lose some skills though).

@Ennui

For your character similar problem to Mercy, not a lot of initiative, even if you plan to run on Jazz.

Biocompatibility doesn't save you lot of Essence and that's not like that's an attribute you need a lot. It might be worth to switch for a Codeslinger (Data Spike) or an other quality.

Get some points into Hardware! Even if it is just 1 point with Karma that's a skill you can't default. Without it if you get Link-Locked you are dead meat.

Antennae is limited to x3 but given the essence cost that might be what you have.

Get a Module on your deck. Program Carrier for example is fairly cheap and incredibly useful. An Electronic Modification might also be a good idea, you could add an other module or modify a Matrix attribute (like going 5 3 2 0 since you don't use Sleaze much anyway). Instead of a Deck you can also pick an Attack Dongle on a Commlink, this is not necessarly much cheaper and you can't run program (except if you add a Program Carrier on it) but it allows you to always run at 6 Data Proc/6 Firewall.

It might be worth to mention that instead of going for a big expensive van like the GMC bulldog (especially on a character with no vehicle skill, you should get 1 point with karma there) you can pick something like a Ford Americar and put an Increased Seating body modification (from Rigger 5) to get 6 Seats on a more inconspicious vehicle. You lose some body and amor but you save some Nuyen.

I recently made a Half gunner half hacker Ork (easily switched for an Elf) a bit similar to yours as a hybrid combat/hacker maybe it can help, I will put the Character Sheet in attachment. He is build with Priority so there is definitely way to max him even more by using Sum to Ten. He is specialized in Data Spike on Persona and lot of Biofeedback damage, yeah he is not a good guy and he hates Technomancers!

@Mulcarn

That's a lot of 3! He looks pretty close to the Professional Rating 2: Corporate Security from the CRB.

I think that first aid is kind of an all or nothing skill.
First the first 3 hits are ignored, so you need to actually get 4+ hits to heal. That also means that small change in dicepool is a large change in healing power.  To make it more specialized, automatic procedures are relatively good so, well you need to be considerably better than them to justify being a medic (as opposed to... I drive the van with the medic kit.).
But I do agree that healing is not that common and that for most injuries heal spell can do the same. As long as you are okay with it, I am cool.

Mechanically if you desperately need healing: Your best bet of healing is probably a team effort, Max with improve logic a medic and some leader to help with leadership.

As much as debit goes: Take into account that one of the things that can get in the way of paying your debits is a physical injury that makes you lose an opportunity to run, or a day job that limits your chances to run in order to pay your debit.

To all you 'Day Jobbers': Day job gives money, but in the big picture it means your potential income from Shadowrunning is diminished. Overall, it is a negative quality and one of the negatives is that you'll make less money as you sometimes miss out on a job due to being unavailable.  In normal circumstances it means you make less money.  It also limits the kind of works you can take, as you cannot hide - if the Yak boss is angry about you the rest can spend a while cooling down - but the day jobber goes to work.

So work on day job if you like the concept and am open OOC to missing out on some of the runs. Do not select that negative quality as a means to earn some extra cash - the best money is picking up the phone when the fixer calls. Rewards may not be much, but still you make 5-10k within few hours of adrenaline.

A regular syndicate henchman should have like 8 of dice to shoot a gun or strike you.
(3 agility, 3 skill and smartlink)
He'll have 6 dice for most social skills - but there are modifiers like if you meat a group of them it is harder to intimidate than if you see just a lone henchman with the rest of his buddies already dead so forth.

Cooperate security should have a bit more dice to harm you, (~10?) (4 ability, 4 skill and smartlink)

Professional soldiers would have around 12.  + some augmentations.  (5 agility, 5 skill and smartlink)

So it help you to position you compared to generic opposition. If you roll 15+ dice you should feel at the level of elite forces.  Syndicates, cooperates (and the army(?!)) all have access to significantly more capable henchman. They are not the kind you just randomly encounter though.

As much as I understand the mechanics, I try to play the NPC's to their strengths for example, if the Yaks figure out that they cannot handle Kynos with their goons - they would not just send waves after waves of them. Their leader understands the limitations of his men and would hire somebody more skilled for the job...

This is by the way why you have job as Shadowrunners - usually when regular henchman cannot do something, you can. So all sort of organizations are willing to offer you what is in SR world a lucrative salary to handle business. I did send an assassin to surprise Maxwell in the middle of the night. If I remember correctly for killing 6-8 Yak henchman with his super fire spirit.  That behavior had also negative economic results with Max needing to change apartments and so forth.

For all of you in debit - a negative economic result like that complicates things even more. I attempt to make you feel that when things go badly, your characters become uncomfortable.

Corporate Security are just minimum wage rent-a-cops and mercenaries.  The guards are usually given lesser armaments on purpose because it'd be bad PR otherwise.  Good equipment or high dices wouldnt make sense because they are just your regular average joes making a living as corporate security goon.

Statwise a syndicate soldier isnt much better and is only slightly more skilled.  The big difference is that an organized crime gang has access to deadlier weapons and plain better gear overall than a big joke security guard.  Even more of a joke are street gangers who a literally limited to what they can find readily accessable on the streets.

The sample professional ratings in the CRB are okay to get a rough idea but personally I wouldn't use it and instead create my own mooks and thugs based on my interpretations.

Gilga while you are around I have some questionq. I am building a Rigger because I would like to expand the option of the team and I thought of using a Renraku Jardinero as a 'spy' drone. The idea is that most corp probably use some of them as cleaner so I paint mine the right color (or use Chameleon Coating for that) and infiltrate it into the building to spy around. My questions are :
 • Would it be usable? If in your scenario no or few buildings use cleaning drones it's a bit pointless
 • What skill + attribute would I use to not be spotted? A simple disguise? I also thought of Logic + Etiquette since the drone might look a bit out of place.
 • Would it be possible to have a hidden Drone Arm? Even a weak one. Weapon Mount have a Pop-out option that add 1 MP and cost 100xMP could I use that on an Arm?

Cleaning drones are very common, I doubt that people actually clean themselves in SR. Once you put there a weapon though it gets more dangerous. The problem is not physical observers, if you use the right kind of drone they'll just ignore it. Matrix observers may notice that the drone is not part of the cleaning application or something like that. I might require a few rolls of hacking/edit file in order to add that drone into the approved cleaning crew of a building.

(not the most secured system in the building, but still a system with central management - that is going to issue instructions for the new drone if it is fooled to think that it is a new addition to its network.)

Without fooling the matrix, you'll eventually be discovered (well risk of discovery is everything, but if you actually have your drone sleaze its way into the building - then you can just leave it there for a long time.).

Okay about arm and weapon, just remember that the less standard the drone the less sneaky it is.

@Jack_Spade

In Street Grimoire Shedim have Possession (Dead or Abandonned Vessels), I don't think a drone apply. Even if it does the Possession has to roll against the Object Resistance which is 15+ for Drones. It better be a high Force Shedim!

Anyway if you destroy the vessel wouldn't the Shedim get disrupted? Unless he has time to switch body before that happen but a Rocket can easily be a one hit kill.

@gilga

Thanks for the answers. My Rigger will have some Hacking skill as well so Edit File is definitely doable. I don't want a weapon on that Drone but I want a hidden arm. It's still possible to detect of course with a Perception test threshold 4 but who is gonna examine some cleaning drone from too close?

Drop National SIN and pick up a 1 point of Arcana and maybe the the Quick Healer quality.  +2 to all Healing and Recovery tests will never go bad.

@Ennui

APDS Rounds for your shotgun.  Nonconductivity and Fire Resistance mods on your Argentum Coat.  Get rid of your Ballistic Mask and get a custom one instead thats fitted with a gas mask and Chemical Protection.

You have the agility to comfortably default while using grenades.  Buy a few flash-bangs and High-explosive.  Maybe some frag grenades instead in case the High-explosive end being too expensive.

@Stuttrboy

If you have leftover karma and you are not sure where to spend it buy some Contacts. Chargen is the only moment you can acquire contacts that easily so it is one of the most valuable expense of karma. You can increase Loyalty/Connection of your current contacts or get new one

You could also lower your In Debt to make your life easier later (Pick Muscle Toner in Used will free some Nuyen while staying at 6 Essence).

Finally you can pick some skills at 1 with Karma. Running and Swimming are good for that with your STR you will get to throw 8 dice. Palming and Escape Artist are also worth considering. Pilot Ground Craft if you don't want to crash your Mirage as soon as you accelerate.

@Ennui

I still strongly recommend a Boosted Reflexes. That's compatible with Drugs and the problem with initiative Drugs is that you either need to go to Jazz or Kamikaze which have high Addiction and don't last super long or with Cram which will only gives you +1 + 1D6 initiative and it takes 10 minutes to kick in. Else go with Mulcarn suggestions.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Ennui on <09-08-16/0207:40>
Well with Drug resistant and pharmaceutical drugs they are at -4 addiction rating right.  Are you saying that jazz and kamikaze can add initiative dice to the boosted reflexes or are you saying I should just take different drugs instead?  I was considering customized drugs.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Kuirem on <09-08-16/0738:37>
I say that Jazz and Kamikaze can stack with the Boosted Reflexes, yes. All Initiative augmenting tech and magic are compatible with Drugs with the notable exception of Synaptic Booster.

Cram is a good alternative to Jazz but you need to take it before the trouble because of the 10 minutes speed. It last for a long time though so a single Cram is often enough for a full run. It's also pretty much impossible to become addicted to Cram so it does wonders with the Narco augmentation. Oh and it's dirt cheap, 10¥ per dose while Pharmaceutic Jazz at 150¥ can quickly make a hole in your budget. Customized Drugs since the base cost is minimum 95 or 115 for an Initiative one.

Jazz and Kamikaze are fine if you use them sporadically (e.g. in a surprise fight) but then it means that you are running on a low 6 + 1d6 initiative most of the time.

The books don't seem very clear about that.  What narco agument?  you mean drug resistant quality?

OK.  I have looked at the comments and will make another change.  I do appreciate the comments and the help as this is always the toughest part for me and it seems that I always think of something I should have done when it is too late.  Is there a drop dead date on this for character generation?

Narco makes drug effects more potent - specifically anything that augment attributes gives an additional +1 to that attribute and you take less stun damage (if the drug causes damage) or take less negative effects.  Drawback is that you are more likely addicted, but many people consider it a very powerful augmentation nonetheless. You'll need to build a character that can reliably use drug boosters without finishing a burnout addict.

The Campaign officially starts on October 1st.  So you still have about 3 weeks worth of time to finish planning and fine tuning your character till then.

Ok I can honestly says that was my hardest character to build. Trying to be good at both Hacking and Rigging and carefully balance the nuyen was tricky but I done it and I am quite satisfited with the result. So if Mercy is sticking with this Combat Medic I will rather go for this one, I really don't mind switching  ;)

For the character he has a lot of equipment and stuff and it would take too long to copy it here so I will just put the pdf in Attachments.

Antonio Ivarsson a.k.a. Wheely

Wheely is born in the Matrix. Well not literally but he has spend more time in VR or jumped in drones than in his meat body. His father was a Rigger working in a high-tech factory, the job demanded skills and was well paid, well enough to pay Antonio a lot of drone toys and for his mother to be at home. His mom had a knack for the Matrix, she wasn't a Hacker more of a "I customize my commlink inside and outside" kind. She teached Wheely a lot of stuff about hardware and software and he picked up the hacking skills later by himself.

Without surprise Wheely has something for wheeled drones and vehicle, while the other kids were playing with their flying drone he would rather stay on the ground with his Gerbil, I guess he was just earthbound.

But what is life without drama? One day the factory were his father worked was hit hard by the undead, his dad didn't survive. From there life went downhill, the Corp that owned the factory looked for a scapegoat and decided to aim for his father, before you know it most of the life insurrance and nuyen they had kept were gone in trials. Forced to move home and go live in a shanky house Wheely's mom had to find odd jobs to make ends.

Seeing all his confortable life crumbling so fast Wheely lost all confidence into the system. He dropped school and with what was left of his toys and his saved nuyen he decided to work in the Shadows to support his mother.

Wheely can do a lot of stuff but I will try to summarize his main perks.

Vulcan Liegelord

Arguably his most important piece of Gear. His RCC is tweaked to have 2 Sleaze and can run Smoke and Mirrors to go up to 7. He use it to hack, he use it to rigg. The RCC run generally into two configuration :

The other programs are more situational :

Hacker

As a Hacker Wheely lack any access to Attack action so he is really more of a stealthy hacker than anything. As much as possible he will try to not reveal to his foes that he can hack and let them believe he is a simple Rigger until the last moment. Hack on the Fly will be heavily used of course, Jump into Rigged Device is nice against enemy Riggers, Control Device is a must too for Devices without Rigger interface, Reboot and Format are good way to take down stuff sneakily.

Rigger

Wheely drives Groundcraft. Maybe he will become more versatile later but for now it will have to do.

Hyundai Equus : That's his car, his house and if he could he will probably marry it. The car is equipped with everything a Rigger can dream : Chameleon Coating, Morphing License Plate, Drone Rack… but this is not a combat vehicle. There is one camera for each side for maximum coverage and the front one is equipped with Low Light vision. There is a Automotive Mechanic tool kit in the car of course.

Most of the dashboard is replaced by an aquarium where his pet John Johnston, the Sony Goldfish, can swim. In the trunk there is a landing drone rack for his Gerbil, allowing it to have an eye on the road. As long as the trunk is open the Gerbil can climb back by itself into the rack. In the right side of the car there is a Smuggling Compartment where most of the space is occupied by a Nissan Doberman and his rack, similar to the one in the back it's build so that the Doberman can get in back as long as it is open, the room left is just enough to put an assault rifle in (or whatever of equivalent size), of course there is much more room if the Doberman is not in.

The passenger seat has a Gun Port accessible.

Evo Proletarian : This helpful Drone is in the garage to help with whatever repair the car or a drone might need.

Renraku Gerbil : The infiltration drone, with his Gecko Tips the Gerbil can really go anywhere and is equiped with all the spying sensors needed for the job.

GM-Nissan Doberman : Wheely combat drone. It features a turret mounted AK-97 and a Defiance T-250 in front. The AK is generally equiped with Gel Rounds for non-lethal take down while the T-250 has Flechette Rounds loaded in.

Renraku Jardinero : Equipped with a Vacuum cleaner this drone is ideal to clean the Garage or the Car. It also feature a Chameleon Coating used to match the color of whatever cleaning drone is used in a building so it can be sneaked in. Of course it also require the right RFID but some Matrix Perception and Edit File should do the trick.

Crossbow

Wheely like some hunting on his spare time. Even when you are not a full gunner a well placed bolt from a Heavy Crossbow with some Narcoject is surprisingly effective.

And that's it! As you can see he is not much of a fighter with only 1 fighting drone but he can do a lot of other stuff : Driver, Spy, Hacking. His car only has 4 Seats but I noticed that Mercy Van has a Rigger interface so we can use that :)

Tell me what you think about it and if you think I missed some obvious thing because there was a lot to do!

I updated the sheet in my previous post, it missed the Knowledge and the Contact name.

Von K. Lovell, 1 Connection / 3 Loyalty, Mechanic. An other car lover, they went to the same college before Wheely dropped from school. He can get some car for cheap (Dealer Connection)

Dwight, 2 Connection / 1 Loyalty, Fixer. Ex-ganger, Dwight isn't the best fixer out there but every runner need one right? And Wheely isn't really a social guy so he does with what he got.

Emotional Attachment : John Johnston, the Sony Goldfish, was Wheely first drone, offered by his father so he take care of it!

@Mercy

Don't get us wrong, Medics are good! Yes tech can do a decent job but even the best Medkit will only throw 12 dice or an average of 4 box healed. A good medic can easily throw ~16 dice or even more if he has assistance (my character has high LOG so my first investment in Karma will probably be in Biotech group) and he can also use Edge, that makes a huge difference. Plus you don't always have access to the best Medkit so if you have to heal yourself with a Rat 3 Medkit in the Street (-2) that's only 4 dice, minus whatever modifier for Awakened/Cybered. Personnaly I think your character is fine as it is, it's just that having two medic is a bit pointless.

@Kuirem

Are you sure you want to hang your heart on that goldfish? You won't be able to use your other drones:

RF p.154 Emotional Attachement
"The character has an irrational emotional attachment to a piece of gear. The character will always use this item, even if presented with a “better” option."

Although it sure would be funny to have the rigger insist we smuggle a goldfish tank into every venue we want to get info from.  ;D
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Kuirem on <09-09-16/1332:45>
Damn that's a pretty harsh penalty for -5 Karma, it was really just for the fluff. Now let's be a bit reasonnable, the Goldfish is a spying water drone so yes if someone give me a better water spying drone I will refuse to use it but it doesn't mean I can't use any other drones.

What our mighy GM says on that? If I can't use any other Drones I will find an other quality to replace this one but I liked my goldfish-in-a-tank-in-the-car idea  :'( and that's just not the same without the emotional attachement to it.

For every task that the gold fish CAN perform you use the goldfish... even if you get a better drone. If the goldfish is compromised you will go out of your way to retrieve it, even if it is dangerous and expensive. When someone walk in on you in your downtime, you are probably playing with your goldfish.

Now you remained me of 'the ill tempered sea bass from Austin powers.

Yes, he is cool. A decker and a rigger. Some small things is that he is not social - so will find it hard to deal with NPCs (not catastrophe for this one).

Some tips:

Some suggestion I'd consider the quality practice practice practice probably for 'Hacking' as it gives you an easy +1 to the limit for hack on the fly. (note that it does not raise your sleaze so spotting you is still the same, but still it is just 2 karma).

Also note that he only has body 2 - so that he is quite fragile if you could fit on him Platelet factories would increase survival if you can afford them. (you do not have to have them at chargen - just suggesting - Wheely is fine as is). Also, if it works for you - a body of 3 can give you 1 more condition box.

Your Crossbow/Archery is so low that it's redundant with your drones.  Most of the opposition will have at least 6 Defense dice to dodge so you'll be better off with those points somewhere else.

You also have tons of ammo for your drones but no Explosive or APDS Rounds to deal with high-armored targets or spirits.  I'd recommend selling a bunch of your Normal and Gel Rounds to buy some.

An unmodified Armor Jacket is nice and all but with the prevalence of Electricity damage and Toxin-based attacks you could go for some specialized protection.  Just because your drones may be on the frontline doesn't mean you can't or won't get hit.  To give you an example for reference, a ninja once showed up at my character's apartment and nearly beat him in one-on-one combat.  Even though he was only a Professional Rating 4 Grunt and my character is a Combat Mage.

A few Trauma Patches and Rating 6 Medkits will help tremendously if you invest a few point into being a medic.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Kuirem on <09-11-16/1626:44>
My character is not a fighter so if a ninja show up at my house I'm dead meat, Nonconductivity or not, even more if I give up on my only weapon skill. Hmm not sure what to do for that...

I don't plan to be a medic yet. By the time I do I will probably have the Nuyen to get a better Medkit anyway. Or I can use the Autodoc on the Van (if it's still there).

I will have to raise BOD first. By the way would you allow a character with 1 STR? Because that's the only place I can really get a point to raise BOD. I would keep my first 10 Karma to raise that asap.

The other tips are good to. I will try to tweak around. Maybe I can downgrade Control Rig to Rating 2 to free some Nuyen but it will heavily impact my driving pools.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Mulcarn on <09-11-16/1705:59>
1.  That 7 Attack pool doesn't really benefit your character in any meaningful way if you can barely even hit a street ganger or corp-sec guard.  Unless you plan on using stealth to line up at least 1 free shot before every fight.  Even then that's a very specific situation.

2.  The medic thing was merely a suggestion to use those free points with.  Anything Logic-based would be a good choice for Wheely.

3.  Sure, in fact my mage originally had 3 Body and 1 Strength.  I was forced to remake him because my laptop containing all of my sources books and chummer files was stolen.  And you don't have to raise it higher than that if you don't plan on him doing any heavy lifting or wearing heavier armor.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Kuirem on <09-11-16/1735:58>
Ok I think I found the solution, reducing Control Rig to 2 free a lot of nuyen to correct things. I switched Archery for Pistols and added a Smartlink along with a Muscle Replacement (so I have 2 STR to start with) so I throw 11 dice with my guns.

Now my problem is that I would like to use some of these Nuyen to get a good Sensor Array on my car. The rulebook says that car can support up to Rating 7 Sensors but how do I exactly upgrade them? Do I just buy a Sensor Array Rating 7 and add all my sensor on them or do I need to buy a Sensor Upgrade? The problem of the Sensor Upgrade is that it is extremely expensive and limited to 6 so it goes against the CRB, plus I feel like it is mostly to give the vehicle a better automatic sensor while I just want a good sensor to use for my character.

Unless you're dead set on punching things to death you can drop 5 points of Unarmed and pump those into Blades and pick up a nice Pole Arm or Katana for some insanely high melee damage.

Picking up 1 point of Sneaking will sync up well with your Agility.

Fraid so. I'll minmax but it interferes with the character that I can't see him as the same guy I made in my head. And I saw a punching Troll decked with Bioware. He may pick up an axe or polearm as since his team died he feels responsible and may want to hone his skills to the best he can be... BUT... Thats in his intermediate past so it wouldn't make sense for him to have come to terms with his need for growth prior to arriving in Seattle. Therefore giving him that option would break character. His Unarmed and Intimitate reflect what he chose to train in thinking thats all he'd need to train in. The 1s in all his other stats relfect that he only wanted to train in the basics because he'd thought that his body and ware would see him through. Coincidently he couldn't have prevented the deaths and he has come to terms with that but he is still mourning the loss pretty damn hard and feels like he should have gone down with them. Thus the Big Regret. He is the sole survior. Hell you can call his 1 edge all thats leftover from the failed run if you like. So yeah put simply he has a long way to evolve into a new Passive. Might even get a new street name before all this is over.

It's cool.  You don't have to change him if it goes against the concept you have in mind.  Pole Arms and battleaxes are hard to conceal anyway and you'd only be getting a minor damage upgrade for a new problem all together.  I put the suggestion out just in case you hadn't considered it yet.  I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record but you should mod your Armor with some Nonconductivity and/or Chemical Protection.

You'd be surprised how often you'll get hit with an Acid/Electricity/Pollutant/Toxin based attack.

Bio: (TL;DR version)  After his sister Kei was killed by the roaming undead he descided he wasn't taking it laying down anymore.  However to fight the fiends he has taken out a loan from a yakuza loan shark and now desperately needs to make some extra money to start paying it back, luckily he has a certain set of skills...

Ayato had always been a loner.  He often felt disconnected from everyone else and this only got worse as he began his training in Kenjutsu.  He began to see people as inferior always looking for a tougher opponent to test himself on; only those who met his standards could he respect.  The only thing that had grounded him was his sister Kei.. She was the only person he could ever say he truly loved, not his parents, not his trainers.  Only she had been enough to keep him in the so called "civilized society" until one day she was ripped from his life at the hands of the undead plague.  After her death he realized he could only find people worthy enough to be his allies in the shadows and this provided the clearest opportunity to avenge his dear sister.  So he took out a loan to equip himself with the tools necessary to start his shadowrunning career and build the contacts and power base to accomplish his goal.
Working on the changes and have decided to take a number of the recommendations to heart.  I should have the updated character sheet up in a couple of days.  I do have a couple of questions for the prospective group members.  I am definitely keeping the van and have left in the metahuman seat adjustments for a Troll and a Dwarf, just to maximize their comfort.  I was thinking of adding a weapon mount for the rigger to operate if present on board.  What would be good for you?

Wheely 2.0 is on the way, while finishing it let's see the others

@RaiderJoseph

Not much to say, that's a big troll hammer. You could probably drop Prototype Transhuman and/or Biocompatibility because you don't need Essence that badly.

Note that regular clothes are generally counted into the Lifestyle cost so you don't need to buy them separatly.

Mulcarn is completely right that you need some mod on your armor, you are in melee so you are more vulnerable than the others, even for a Troll.

With 14 STR you can get up to +16 Armor so it could be worth to try to raise that a bit. If you can manage to find the Nuyen the best armor you could get is : Sleeping Tiger (with Gel Packs) + Synergist Business Line Longcoat + Custom Ballistic Mask + Forearm Guards + PPP Legs Kit for a total of 17900 Nuyen and 22 Armor. Sleeping Tiger is particularly expensive so if it is too much stick with the Armor Jacket. Also consider having a Shield, you won't be able to get it with you everywhere but the +6 Armor is really nice when you need it.

@Ennui

Consider some specialization for your skills. For example you could reduce Edge to 2 and pick Hardware and Electronic Warfare with Karma which leaves you 4 Skill points for Specialization. Cybercombat could particularly benefit from it, probably Device if you want to brick a lot.

For Program Carrier you need to chose a program and you won't be able to change it. I recommend Hammer on it. You only have 3 Programs but 5 program slots (because of Virtual Machine) by the way. Some suggestions : Baby Monitor (you don't want GOD to come at you), Fork (Brick 2 devices at once), Wrapper (this thing is really amazing to hide stuff in plain sight in the Matrix), Configurator (it's cheap and it allows you to quickly go into Matrix combat mode), Signal Scrub (once again cheap and really useful if you have big noise to compensate).

@Stuttrboy

What with all those people that don't know how to avoid Debt?

The character is good. Check with your Ground Vehicle Operation (it's called Pilot Ground Craft btw), if you've raised it from 1 to 2 with Karma it should cost 4 not 3 and it's cheaper to raise Instruction from 0 to 1 for 2 Karma instead and use the Skill point on Pilot Ground Craft.

Like Ennui you could use some Specialization : Sneaking (Urban), Perception (Visual), Pilot Ground Craft (Bike) are classics.

Specializations are 1 point with initial skill points and 7 with karma correct?  I'm not sure how much I want to do that.  I will take a look though.

October 1st is when the campaign officially starts.  Although Gilga may start it earlier but that would be up to him.

I've reviewed and gone over your characters and have checked some things out with Jack and Gilga.  You guys look set for the most part. (Still waiting to see what changes Mercy Merchant has in mind) The three of us have deliberated and nuanced to no end whole manners of ideas and the subsequent practices of those ideas.  Ranging from the setting to the NPCs, to the game mechanics, to the lore and fluff, and the world itself.

If you have any questions or concerns then now would be the time to voice them.  Questions about the House Rules, Professional Ratings, Game World, Important Plot Points, Mechanics, Missions, Critters, Gear and Equipment, Other Player Characters, etc.

All in all, I think you'll have fun... and nightmares.  ;)

Latest version of my character.

Nicole Monet was a promising physician in the Renraku system.  She was born to mid-level corporate parents and had everything she could really ask for.  She was educated in the the right schools and given opportunities only available to a small percentage of the population.  She was on the verge of having her future set as a corporate surgeon specializing in cybernetic medicine and could look ahead to a lifetime of ease.  She married the son of a rising corporate star and was on the list to be allowed to have her first child when everything went wrong.

Unforeseen complications on the operating table led to the unfortunate death of a senior VP and the family started looking for someone to blame.  The surgeon and her team were the obvious choices.

The corporation still has its claws into her but gives her the freedom to act on her own.....as long as she remembers that Renraku is watching.  Two years ago she fell in with a group of undead hunters who were in need of a combat medic.  Sadly, most of those people died and the others left the group.  She is now looking for another group to join and has recently moved to Seattle from Denver, hearing that the sprawl is home to many of the creatures she hunts.  As a side venture, she has found a niche as a street cyberware technician, using her van as a home as well as a workplace.

Looks like Wheely won't be the only one living in his car! You have 1900 Nuyen left, use them to get a better commlink, at this price the Renraku Sensei is ideal.

Or even cheaper: Spend 500 for electronic parts and get the persona mod added to your medkit for a cheap R6 commlink (provided you keep the medkit on your person)

Yes, Simone will be sleeping in her vehicle, but she high amenities and a special bed.

Keeping the medkit on me at all times could be a chore so I just got a Blue Defender instead.

I just realize that I forgot to answer about the weapon on your van. Well the first thing is to put it with Concealed Visibility because it's illegal and we don't want your van to be seized by cops right?A Flexible Flexibility is the minimum on a vehicle imo because it can't turn as easily as a drone which limit us to Light Size. A SMG with Full Auto would be the best since a Van would completely ignore any recoil.

It's 6750¥ + weapon but if you can't afford it just forget it, I already have drones to attack.
Title: Re: Into the Chaos Chapter 2 Recruitment
Post by: Mercy Merchant on <09-17-16/1447:25>
It is cool.  I will have to wait to get that done, I think, especially if you do not really need it and have your own vehicle.  The van does have a couple of landing drone racks for mini drones that were installed when she was running with another rigger.  I have modified the vehicle to add a rigger cocoon and reduced a language skill to pay for it.  You do not have to use the van, but you can if you want to, as you will most likely be far more able to use it than I am.  We can add mounts and weapons as we go.
