Title: SR5 Brony Edition
Post by: Agonar on <02-17-14/1925:11>
Since there were only a very few amount of the Brony Edition printed, any chance of allowing for a POD copy of the book with that cover from Drive-thru?  My son is into Shadowrun, and has been watching MLP on Netflix, so I think it would be cool if I could get ahold of a copy somehow

As far as I know, it's not even what would really be called an "edition."  There were a handful printed custom as a joke (mostly at the expense of Jason Hardy, our boss).  Who knows what kind of tangled mess of licensing and property rights and stuff it'd take to get "real" copies printed?

WTF is Agonar talking about?  Why would anyone have a Brony Edition of Shadowrun?  Mind you, I'm familiar with what a Brony is...  but that seems like it's ludicrous.

I'm not sure how to respond to this other than by point up-screen to the post I made just before yours.  A very small number of in-joke Shadowrun, Fifth Edition, books were printed, with "Brony" covers.  I know I'm not the only one that uploaded a picture to the interwebs while Jason got his, so a Google Image search should find you the cover art, etc.

Why would anyone actually want to pay money for that though?  I get that it was a joke, but the OP sounds serious.

Yes, I am serious.  It would make an awesome novelty copy of the game, and if I wasn't willing to spend money on obtaining one, I wouldn't have asked about the potential of a POD version, since I doubt one of the developer gifts would ever show up on eBay or anything.

I don't know if what you're asking for would rightly be called an Edition.  It sounds like this was an internal joke, and never intended to be sold.  As Critias pointed out, the licensing alone would be a nightmare.

The inside was same SR its just the Cover and back of the book they are really after with the Cyberpunked up MLP with the Ancients tat on the front with some other pics on the back.

And yeah, don't even want to think what hoops you have to jump through for that licensing....

Wouldn't it be possible to, say, get scans of the front cover, back cover and perhaps the spine of the book and make your own sleeve for the rulebook?

I mean, that should be more legal, especially if it's not done for profit and would basically be a fan product... Which would obviously be downloadable for free?

Or, you know, just sell those Brony editions online and get enough funding from crazy bronies to actually get the licensing done and publish a legit version.

PS. Only the first two lines of this message should be taken seriously.

No, and no. It's still licensed property from Hasbro, even if there is no money involved.

And what about the tons of fan-made material posted on sites like Deviantart and such daily? How would this be different?

There's a big difference between fair use by individuals and one company using the other company's licensed property.

Sue someone on dA, and get a lot of bad PR and maybe a few thousand dollars.

Sue another company, get maybe a little bad PR (but more likely nothing), and get a drekpot of money.

So instead of going on with the Brony idea.. we need a fresh angle to call our own.

We could do SuperDeformed Runners, so big eyes/big headed short versions of runners on the cover :P (wait, doesn't CanRay look like that normally?)

Or replace the various races with quasi-animal humanoid forms like in Apocalypse Meow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apocalypse_Meow)
So you could use something like :
Human = Monkeys
Orc = Bears
Elf=Cats
Dwarf = Badgers
Troll=Elephant/Rhino/Turtles?

The Furries already have SURGE.  ;D

EDIT:  I should know, one of my players made a catboi nurse who escaped from a bunraku parlor.

SURGE works better anyway. You can mix and match as desired. I should know, it's what I do. :P You could just have a team of SURGEd runners.

-

Why not do AnimeRun? Bishounen, magical girls and Japanese antics galore!
Wait that sounds horrifying.

OMG that does sound horrifying.  I know for a fact that one of my players would be all over this - please delete your post so that he can't ever see it!  :P

Still better than Sheep.

I refuse to accept that, having been subjected to an hour long Brony debate. How in the world can Bronies, even ShadowBronies, be better than the sheep? ???

Stealth Sheep, with Ruthenium Polymer Wool?

And a set of Second Skin underneath. Which means the Sheep's wool is part of the Zoë line.

No accusations of subtlety at all! ;D The Sheep IncidentTM was not described in there, other than being used as a reference for not poking your nose into things. Being as we were never given the full horror of the sheep, and having experienced the lows to which Bronies will take their conversations, I still hold that Bronies are by far the greater evil.

I jest though; I've always rather liked her from the start, and I love what you did with her in the Street Legends supplement.  ;)

Oops, my bad! I still have trouble putting the user name here with the author's name on the products!  :-\

Still, good work with her in Safehouses!  ;D  I like seeing her character grow more as a shadowrunner.

The more I read this topic, the more I wish we had rules on SURGE for 5E already. As well as a few other things. Just so I can DM a game where people are hired to back up a group of shadowbronies as they try to rescue anime nurse AIs from a catboi-run bunraku parlor. And have the catbois cast their spells via showtunes.

Add in Sheep Shamans and poor Mungo may end up permanently traumatized.
