My character is a functioning Jack of all trades, I recently posted on an old thread his updated stats, and will repost them here in a minute.  The catch is that my GM gave me a goodly amount of Karma to get me caught up with the group as  I had missed a few months of gaming

So I am debating on what to do with it.  Right now I have spent the 23 Karma on improving his Automatics skill to 4 (letting him throw 15 dice instead of 12) and his Computer to 4 as well.  the computer has to stay as we lost our primary Matrix guy, so it is falling on me now (I can handle it)

However I am looking at Chosen Follower.  If I reduce my Automatics to 2 (have not played with the updated 4, so can change it still) I would have 12 karma, enough to buy Chosen Follower and a couple 1 point skills.  The summer equinox is right upon us, so could go with +2 counterspelling or 2 new spells or +3 Mystic World...all would be extremely useful and would allow me in three months to get another for free.  So it is very attractive to me (10 point quality nets me 24 Karma worth of spells and skills)...all tempting offers....

Here is how he is right now, like I said the Automatics can be dropped a bit...

It's tricky to make recommendations without knowing who the other characters on the team are, what roles they fill, and what gaps might exist.

What's your goal with the SMG? Are you actually hoping to hit something or do you just want to use it for suppressive fire?

Chosen Follower has a lot of flavor to it but mechanically you only receive the benefit once every three months. If it were me, I'd be more inclined to spend the 10 karma on Perceptive II. That will give you +2 to both Perception and Assensing, which would otherwise cost you 16 karma if you were to improve the skills with Jack of All Trades. Since Assensing is something you can do that not everyone else can (unless you have a heavy Awakened group), it might be worth it to prioritize it.

Another option is to Initiate and pick up a power point. Take Magic Sense, which is awesome (basically a quickened spell that can't be dispelled) and maybe a rank of Attribute Boost (AGI). Using Attribute Boost will get you those 2 dice back that you gave up for Automatics, plus you can use it for your other Agility skills as well (Blades, Sneaking, etc.). Then pick up Danger Sense or Improved Sense or something else that will help round out the team, or give you another early-warning detection system.

Another option is to pick up more spells. Mystic adepts make the best Jacks of All Trades because new spells add functionality that's difficult to replicate by other means. Levitate, another combat spell (perhaps something Physical for drones), Detect Enemies, Physical Mask, Trid Phantasm, Petrify... there are many, many good options.

The group is a "Street Sam", a Mystic Adept,  a Mage, and a Rigger...

I have had a lot of the same thoughts, here is my logic against

First of Perceptive II is actually 20 after character gen, so math is off, still considering Perceptive I as it helps with all three perception skills (Computer as well)

The Power Point is an interesting idea, but Attribute raising is kind of out of the question on this character for right now (He uses spells for the same effect, max +4, he has two ways to sustain).  I Could see taking...ugg can't think of name but it is +1 to all social skill rolls, help with 4 of my skills...

If I decided on spells, then we circle back to Chosen follower, my GM will let me get one of the benefits when purchased so +2 spells without needing to study them (saves time and nuyen, plus future benefits)
