Piercing the Night

You heard the scream. It’s important to remember that. Sometimes, when it’s late, and you hear something that sounds like a scream echoing through dark alleys, you try to convince yourself that it was something else. An animal. An illusion. Anything but what it sounded like.

But it was a scream. You heard it, and you’ll hear it again, because in the Sixth World, the supply of terror is growing. Bug spirits work to devour corporations from within. Shedim claim dead bodies and mobilize to their own dark ends. And the hidden corners of the metaplanes and the Matrix contain creatures that are best not imagined, because to imagine them is to sever ties with reason.

Dark Terrors is a catalog of the horrors lurking under the surface of the Sixth World. With plot updates and hooks, critter stats, and campaign information presented in an immersive style, it’s an invaluable resource for players ready to stay on the edge of their seats. It is for use with Shadowrun, Fifth Edition and Shadowrun: Anarchy.

Darn it, I was going to say something, but can't get the spoiler tag to work correctly.

Enjoying it very much so far!

Enjoying the fluff quite a lot, so far!
I have a bit of mixed feelings about the crunch (SR absolutely didn't need even more stuff only mages can handle), but seeing Twist post again was really nice. Happy to see he is still considered "being alive", basically one of my favourite runners. Just a bit surprised nobody seemed to recognise him, considering his associates back in the day.

Some groovy stuff in the mix, that's for certain.

To whomever wrote him:
Please make this Mantis-Spirit Jackpointer a semi-regular.
So much potential for wird, funny and strange viewpoints/comments.

Got a Matrix rule question from p. 132.  Anyone mind if I ask, or would that be a spoiler?

Edit: to heck with it.  Does the Dox rules apply only to technos?  The book states that deckers and technos are subject to Dox attacks.  However, to see if the Dox is aware of the hacker, 2D6 is compared to the hacker's Submersion grade.  So are deckers screwed, are only technos subject to the Dox, or is this a typo, with something else other than the Submersion grade (Firewall?) being compared?

Why is CGL ok with this?

Small typo with MASSIVE weight. Very much to be corrected.

Hmmm... wouldn't that be something like an errata?

I just wanted to say that this book both filled me with excitement and made me nauseous. It’s well written with some nasty surprises. Good job!

Nauseous? Eek! Might I ask what upset you?

Project Garden was a very discomforting read, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be printed. Tamanous is that kind of organization.
Well that section and the five year old “wine”

That these sections have that affect on me is twofold: one, it means they are really well written. Two I have become a lot more emotional and easy to influence after having spawn of my own.

So please, take my reaction as the praise it honestly is

Jason posted earlier that print copies have hit the warehouse. Hopefully we’ll see them hit the streets shortly. ;D

I picked this up during the drivethru sale. I love this book. It's fluff is great to read. I had a ton of fun reading about the new Matrix threats. I like to seeing the metaplot for Asamando get an update. Sounds like it's ready to collapse in on itself releasing a plague of HMHVV infected across the world. Also a bit disappointed in the resolution with Boston with no conclusion for the missing  Eliohann and Cerius. But the updates to Evo and NeoNET were interesting. I like that the new Evo CEO is a naga. That's pretty damn Shadowrun right there. I really do think we need more weird CEOs that aren't your traditional human. I'm still working through the book. But what a fun read.

Dark Terrors is now available in print form :)
It's available from Noble Knight (https://www.nobleknight.com/P/2147695231/Dark-Terrors), for instance.

Such a tempting book to get, one of the few fluff books I would want as deadwood along with its older two brethren

For all the German players: Dark Terrors is also available in print as "Im Herz der Dunkelheit". It also contains a nice add on section about the state of the ADL  :)

Darn-it, I need the French line to catch up to the German one (or, you know, Catalyst to capture all these cool German add-ons into english)

Why is there another randomized roll during character creation again? It might likely be NPC considering that its some sort of infected stuff but still.. Did it even take in  consideration the bellcurve?

Triskavanski, I think you may have left something out in your post...

What random roll are you talking about?
Title: Re: [SR5] Dark Terrors (Plot Sourcebook)
Post by: Jack_Spade on <09-16-18/1414:04>
I guess Triskavanski is talking about the wildcard chimera negative qualities. As things go, it's not too bad with bioluminescense as the the most often drawn quality.

Post by: Triskavanski on <09-16-18/1425:56>
Yeah, its not as bad as changeling qualities, but its still a randomized character element in a point buy game. Even Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder have been pulling away from randomized elements like this with their stats.

Post by: ShadowMaster on <09-19-18/0901:09>
I do not care much for the random nature of the changeling qualities or other random parts of character creation.
The should have been setup as a pool of positive and negative qualities that must be taken based on the degree of changelingness. So many from this group of posititive so many from this group and so on. instead we got random drek.
