I made a list so you all can stop speculating on what special forces, ops, etc. units exist. I listed them alphabetically by parent organization/sponsor.

Ooh, very nice! Thank you!
-
Beautiful. Thanks.
-
Excellent work! Thanks!!
-
This is super helpful for backstory purposes. Thanks for taking the time putting this together!
-
Updated and given its own (really pretty) page.
-
Thanks for the list. How ever if I can make a suggestion to the powers that be....
Minute men? MINUTE MEN?! Nononononononononono. They are the Cola Commandos. Get on that will you.

General, another settlement needs your help...
On topic: Awesome list, thanks. Several of those books I don't own, so I'd never have spotted them.

I'd prefer that be the name for a competitor.

Thanks. That was the goal.
I updated the link to the proper page.

An interesting list... just as a note though, when linked to Facebook the preview is talking about North American sports teams.

Thanks. I'm trying to fix the problem now.
EDIT: I think I fixed it.

There seems to be no love for the Salish. Back in NAN1, they stood their own against the Wildcats in some military exercise. Maybe the issue is that they don't specialize their troops that way. Anyway, I want to say there are 3 groups: The Border Patrol, the Coast Guard and the Security Force (combination military/police).
-
They suffered a lot during the war with Tsimshian in terms of casualties and dilution of talent when the Rangers had their best removed to form the core of the Salish Defense Force.
Also, just the be clear, these are the groups actually identified in existing material. Some has been clarified, but for the most part they are as presented in the source material. There's nothing precluding the existence of elite Salish Rangers or SDF units, but none have been identified as of yet. That said, who can say? The Salish will probably be mentioned to some extent in Seattle Sprawl.
-
Like I said, they were mentioned back in NAN1 back in 1st edition.
I'm also going to throw out there that the Smoke Jumpers are stationed in Salish territory. While they aren't a military force, they do routinely drop into the most hazardous situations imaginable.
Maybe I'm just too sensitized that the Salish have been largely ignored despite being to intrinsically linked to Seattle.
-
It didn't indicate a permanent and discrete unit within the Rangers, though, and I'm not inclined to describe an entire national paramilitary police/security force as an elite unit.
However, that may change. I can't say.

Gendarmerie is a Canadian Thing, The Gendarmerie Royal du Canada (you probably know them on the Mounties term)
the Québec "equivalent" will be The Sureté du Québec, it will translate : Surety or Sureness of Québec, I think
So thechnically Gendarmerie Special Team will be a UCAS thing
-
Cool. Thanks.
The Gendarmerie is the current name since Lone Star, but I could see it becoming Sureté in the future. Or some other group taking up the name.
-
it was just a basic misunderstanding of the first editor. Normally it will have been Sureté all along
But you know Canada and Québec seems pretty the same thing when you see it from the exterior
They probably know since the third edition of Shadowrun and never botter to change it
-
Those ayone of you have a little bit of Information on the Anarchist Black Star ?
-
It's in Loose Alliances, War!, and Storm Front. Though it took a massive hit at the end of the Az-Am War by getting involved against the Azzies.
-
During the Am-Azt War, Black Star was pretty much destroyed in the Battle of Bogota. The only known survivor (at this time) is Aufheben. After being thought dead, he reappeared as the de-facto leader of a resistance movement in Bogota known as Bright Star (see the Southern Insurrection section of Bloody Business for more info), who are fighting against Aztlan rule in the former free city. Aztlan has tried to go after him and his lieutenants, but with mixed results.

Metroplex Guard Special Forces............. that almost sounds like it contradicts itself.
Tangent, but for whoever runs that website the Sports teams could use updating.
In Runfaster, Infected Section, there is a line about how the Phoenix Coyotes Hockey team is now in Seattle.
Also it has the Thunderbirds listed as both Combat Cyclist & Basketball teams. I'm thinking that is supposed to be the Suns.
-
Oops. Thanks.

Is this the reason why the Texas Rangers didn't make the list? Or, are they non-canon? You'll have to forgive my ignorance on that point.
Great list, for sure. Thanks for taking the time.

Yes. The short answer is that the Rangers incorporated the Texas SDF and became a full-blown paramilitary unit. That being said, there are full-blown Rangers who ...
I'll get back to you.

Great post Crimsondude, as always!
Couple minor points -
1) CAS Marines would likely have a FAST team as well, There are currently (as of 2016) units at least Company strength stationed in King's Bay GA, Guantanamo Bay, Norfolk and yorkstown. These likely would have gone with CAS in the split.
2) No love for Scout/Snipers? ;) You might have just assumed they were part of MARSOC but they are seperate from Force Recon/Raiders.
Otherwise, love it.
-
Thanks. This is just a list of units that have been identified in existing products (Although I need to double-check on the last couple of releases). I had the list with the citations somewhere.
Anyway, I'd like to put together a more comprehensive list of what exists, but I can't right now.

I figured as much, but I couldn't help myself ;) Have to defend my beloved Corps

They are mentioned in Street Legends Supplemental PDF when they do Hard Exit's bio. I definitely would add them as I bet they are even more hardcore after Texas was independent from the CAS for a while back I think in the 40s.

As a paramilitary unit, the Texas Rangers as an organization handles the state's intelligence and counterintelligence operations. Spy Games also mentions that fully badged Texas Rangers, not deputy Rangers or other uniformed officers, etc., are expected to run their own espionage and CI rings and be very self-sustaining as part of the whole "One riot, one Ranger" ethos.

Thank you for the information. That is very interesting to know.

First, it's awesome that the Coca Cola analogue gets Minute Men lol.
But to my on topic point, I noticed that the Tir Na Nog Paladins are not listed. My knowledge of the Sixth World is fragmentary at best at the moment and considering the sheer volume it'll be a while before that changes, so if something happened to the Paladins that moved them off the board then I apologize for my ignorance and I thank you in advance for explaining it. I am merely just curios as to why they didn't make the list.
Also apologies if this has already been answered.
-
The Paladins, as far as I'm aware, would never have made it onto the board, as they are less a SpecForce than a general collection of people who use the term. Some - many - Paladins are indeed highly capable combat individuals, and groups of paladins do indeed work together, but since paladins each individually swear alliegence to something, they are not a group together, per se.
-
Paladin is a catchall term for a lot of different people. Some of them are also members of the Ghosts, but not all Ghosts are Paladins. Also, a lot of those old Paladins went into exile with Surehand or died. They did swear a magical, lifetime oath to Surehand, after all. Although some interpreted it as to the office, not the man.
Anyway, no Paladins here. Nor their Tír na nÓg equivalents, and specifically the Order of Cú Chulainn. It's a warrior class, and there are elite of the warrior class (Reach Fuileach).
-
According to the Tir Tairngir book, there are basically two kinds of paladins. The most common would be those who swear an oath to a person, group, or cause, and do what they are able to support them. This can include bad-ass assassins, spies, and the like, but it can also be businessmen supporting a specific cause, or other, decidedly noncombat types.
Less commonly, there are the paladins that show up in the parades, decked out in the medieval-looking (but 6th world tech) armor, and acted as Surehand's guards. These guys were certainly no slouches as warriors, but they were basically an elite bodyguard order, like the US Secret Service. Not that they aren't bad-ass, but there's a distinct difference in mission, skills, and training between elite protectors and elite operators. Sure, they can be cross-trained into the other role, but that's similar to cross-training SWAT and Homicide detectives. It can be done, but not necessarily the best use of resources.

I never attached this: Citation list sourcing all of the units mentioned.

Still can't find the sources for "ATO-M". In SR the BGS merely consists of the different GSG units and the GSG9, as it's only field of operation is border protection (unlike in RL where the BGS was reorganized into the Bundespolizei (Federal Police)) and protection of special (international) locations like airports, train stations and harbors.
Anyway the list for Germany or German corporations is incomplete, so I will post additional ones here (based upon this here: https://shadowhelix.de/Spezialeinheit )
Germany:
*Mobiles Einsatzkommando (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landespolizei#Operational), MEK ("Mobile Deployment Commando"; part of the Landespolizei / State Police LKA)
*Observationseinheit Zoll, OEZ ("Customs Observation Unit", part of the Federal Customs Service, comparable to a MEK)
*Spezialeinsatzkommando (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Deployment_Commando), SEK ("Special Deployment Commando" part of the Landespolizei / State Police LKA, SWAT-Unit)
*Sonderabteilung für Pharmazeutische und Digitale Suchtmittel, SAPHADIS (Anti-Drug-Unit, cooperation between FCS and the Federal Criminal Police Office)
*Zentrale Unterstützungsgruppe Zoll, ZUZ ("Central Customs Support Group", part of the Federal Customs Service, comparable to GSG9)
Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces):
*Fernspäher ("Long-Distance Reconnaissance")
*HAZARD-Teams (CBRNN response unit)
*Kampfschwimmer ("Combat Swimmers" - Frogmen)
*Kommando Spezialkräfte, KSK ("Special Forces Command")
MET2000:
*CBRNe Ops
*MET2000 Special Operations Division, MSOD
*Recon Infiltration Commando, RICO
*Sturmfalken ("Stomhawks")
*Tactical Assault Group, TAG
Sternschutz:
*Spezielle Operationen, SOP ("Special Operations")
*Territorialschutz, TTS ("Territorial Defense", comparable to BGS)
*Zugriffskommandos, ZK ("Grasp Commandos", hard to translate as "Zugriff" just means access or grasp, but is the term used when a police unit engage a suspect or storm a house, so it's more used in the meaning of "arrest", Sternschutz's version of an SEK)
Corporations:
*Schwarze Marshalls ("Black Marshalls") - Schwarze Sheriffs (Renraku / Munich)
*Taktische Einsatzteams,TETs ("Tactical Operation Teams") - AG Chemie
-
This is Super Awesome! Now that my team is running in Germany its good to know those names.
Thanks Chummer.

Sorry. Lars told me about them.

Lokii posted the source before the Forum went down, but the post is now gone. Apparently it's an odd mentioning in DidS 2 (the 2nd Germany Sourcebook, that was never translated) https://shadowhelix.de/Anti_Terror_Organisation_-_Matrix
