Moving to Denver or Los Angeles would be cool someday. Nothing saying the characters couldn't get sent there on a run and stay for a month or two.... ;)

I have no problem with the GM having a character that advances at the same rate as the party. I mean, if someone else GMs after a while, you don't want to be at a massive disadvantage.

Personally, as for game type, I like a combination of both. I guess it depends what type of group we get too. If we get a bunch of hackers and infiltrators, might be more of a mellow game than if we get combat mages, street sams, and riggers with attack drones coming out the wazoo.

For my personal characters, I have a soft spot for trolls, and will probably end up playing one if no one else does. (Gotta get some meta-diveristy in there ;)) As for an archetype, I'm good with anything that doesn't involve the matrix beyond basic computer searches.

Hi...I am on Pacific Time, but the Friday times work for me.  I haven't played in a long time, but I have plenty of materials for the game.

I will go with a rigger....human or elf.  Which do you think works better for that character?  Also, are we playing 4TH Edition, or an earlier one?

Awesome :D Thanks guys! I think we're probably going to go with 4th edition, unless anyone has any issues with that. That's the only one I've ever played x_x

I think either one would make a good rigger.

For people that are building, go with the standard 400 bp I think, or if you prefer the karma system, 750 karma. Does that sound ok to everyone?

Sounds good to me, I'll review the rules in 4TH Edition and get a character made up.  I haven't dealt much with the Karma system, but I'll check it out.  Also, I have a pile of source books, maps, and forms in PDF if anybody wants them for use in the game (pending GM approval).

Would it be better for the team to create a vehicle type rigger, or a drone based rigger?  Oh...and how much cash do we get for creation?

Yep, I have all those PDFs too. I don't think you'll need anything more, though if anyone doesn't have all those PDFs I'm sure you'll survive, as long as you have access to a corebook and whatever else you need for your particular character.

As for what type of rigger, whatever you prefer to play yourself. You have to actually enjoy your character or the game just becomes a chore.

Yeah, I personally prefer Karma too, but I tend to build well rounded characters instead of specialists.

Sounds good to me...I'll build a rigger that does both I think.  I normally play characters who shoot first and think later, so a rigger will be a fun change.

Ok, let's get this whole thing rolling.

First, could people please PM me with a contact email address?  That will make contact much easier.

Next, a solid core of 5 players (not including me) is idea so if Koo want in, I'm ok with it (brings the runner to 6).

I've never tried a Karma build for a game before, but what the hell...

A couple general restrictions (sorry if you dislike them but I'm not bending on this):
I am not allowing Genetic anything, Nano anything.  None of military books (from pre generations or post, such as War).  Also no infected char types or SURGE concepts.  No non-metahumans (so no AI, free spirits or shapeshifters). I'm _really_ _really_ leery of any of the alternative meta-types but I might be convinced if the char background is good enough.

Anyway, here is the layout for the into.  I like to try different angles/hooks.  And yes, this will be a higher pt starting game:

(into)
Game: Fool's Gold

Welcome to the Sprawl!
Sucks, don't it?   Least if you're drek poor and eatin soycrap out of garbage cans.  Like every other teenage SINless out there, you want more, dream of more.  The 'Trid and 'Sims show how wiz being a runner is.  That's the dream right?  Freedom and Nuyen!  Of course for most, that's all it ever is or ever will be.  Just a dream.

Except for you...you and the others (whether you're friends or just happened to be at the same spot when it all went down) got lucky.  Like holy fragging drek lucky...  Lost amidst the refuse and rubble of one building, a metallic briefcase peeked out.  And when you and the others opened it...paydirt.  It was loaded with platinum grade credsticks.  And not just a couple either...A BUNCH.  You grabbed your handful and hauled your hoop outta there before anyone came looking.

This was your shot!  You're way out.  A little training, some surgery for the 'ware and you're ready to go.  Now, you've got the gear... Do you have what it takes to survive the Shadows?  Hell with that!  Survive?  Eat drek, slag.  You're gonna RULE.

(end intro)

Ok, there's 2 option for char creation (both are equal in point value, just some restrictions change):

1) Experienced Runner
800 Karma to build
Same restrictions as starting char in main book.  (max 250k on gear, 12R is max available, max 100 karma for gear (= 250k), etc)
Qualities and Flaws must cancel each other out.

2) Lucky SOB
You are one of the kids/SINless/punks/etc who found the haul of a lifetime...
750 Karma
Max Skill (group or otherwise) is a 2.  You may pick 2 skills (or 1 group) to have at a 3.
Qualities and Flaws must cancel each other out.  You must take SINless (5pt).
As regular char creation for gear (100karma = 250k) with the following adjustments: +125,000 nuyen.  Max restriction bumps to 16R (nothing F though).  And you are required to buy a fake SIN.

Oh... If you have a dice pool that hits 15 dice, I'm likely gonna call powergamer on ya. ;)  (Unless you're a troll tank and we're talking soak rolls or something.)

Hope that's enough to get you all working/thinking of char concepts.  If people wish to have a common contact (ie a fixer), that is fine with me.  But it must be decided and agreed up the level on contact.  The final cost would be split evenly among you.

Any questions, let me know (hence the PM/Email being mentioned above).

As for medium, I hope someone has a preference.  All I've done in the past is txt based-irc games.

First off. I normally cap my skills at 16 for almost any character. 16 dice for primary and 12 for my secondary roles. Option one is the only option I could life with, the other option is a not viable.

An experienced runner should be good at his primary 14 Dice or so. 18 and 20 is hit a little too high.

An experienced anything would have his primary skills above 3

I am not a fan of the balancing of Positive and Neg qualities.

I am happy to PM you with my email address.

750 karma and normal skill maxes work for me. Hell the ganger I have maxed out his skills at 4 he has a lot of them thou. I can send you him and his back story if you like. You would be amazed at what you get with 750 Karma. With Karmagen it is more efficient to have a well rounded character. Bp the efficiency is in min-maxing. That is why you normally get supers-specialized characters.

Skype and Maptools I have found to be the best for online gaming and they are free.

Hey guys. It's looking like the group is already full, but I figured I might as well try and see if I can get in. Fair warning about me: I have never played this before. I have read through the core book awhile back, but I could not find a group in my area to play with. If there is a space available and you wouldn't mind having someone who is new to playing, then I would love to be part of the group.

I can reread the core book and have a character made by the date listed in the thread and I would be very open to criticism on my character and play style since it would be my first time after all. If there is no room currently, then I wouldn't mind being wait listed until there is an opening. I am open any day and any time. I live in the central time zone and it looks like the times that you were talking about would work perfect for me. Thanks in advance for your considering me.

EDIT: I have played games like this before (D&D 3.5 a decent amount and a few sessions of Paranoia) but never Shadowrun specifically. I understand the group requires a time commitment for the story to move on at a good pace. I would just need some patience on learning the finer points of this particular rpg.

I like Seattle, it's a good place to start working.  I'd kinda like to play it smart, dodging the 'man', breaking what rules we can without catching to much heat and taking anything shiny that isn't nailed down.

So where going with Cyora's restrictions? alright I going to have to change a few things and look into karma.
