Attribute Boost, Shadowrun 20th Anniversary Edition, p. 195

"To gain the boost, make a Magic + (Attribute Boost) Test."

Does this mean each level purchased in Attribute Boost (at .25 per level) or do I get one die for every 4 levels I purchase?

You get one die per level of Attribute Boost purchase.  So one per .25 invested in it.

As the drain you have to resist is equal to the rating of the power, it's not really worth it to take higher then rating 1 or 2.

Mäx makes a good point. Since the Level of your ability is only adding to the die roll to generate hits, and the hits themselves determine the boost to your stat, paying out for four levels instead of two increases your chances of taking stun damage as opposed to the number of hits you get on the test.

My understanding is that each level adds one die to the activation roll, increasing the probability of more hits.

I am not arguing against the Drain though.

Yes, but changing it from a Magic 6 + Boost 2 test to a Magic 6 + Boost 4 test doesn't feel like it outweighs the difference between 2S Drain and 4S Drain.

Perhaps, but if you were to overcast, you might justify looking like Akira :-p

For clarity, it's an adept power, not a spell, so there is no overcasting.
