I'm ambivalent about this. It's not something I'd use.

In my admin experience, chats normally cause decent conversation concepts to devolve into mindless drivel in record time.

Forums are a nice neat way to separate what you do and don't want to read about.
- Are you going to have a separate Chat session for every forum topic?
- Just every grouping?
- Just one big Chat for all logged-in users?

Seems like a lot of effort, for little reward.

Well my whole purpose would be so that if someone replies to your post with something you don't understand you don't have to go through 6 pages of one sentence posts to finally get it figured out.

Nope, instead you can wait a day until Time-zones match, and in the meantime deal with other users hogging the chat lines.

Or you might find that person B) understood your post, and corrected person A) before you even realised.

Every communication medium has flaws....
