Storm Front touched on how the Ghouls and the rest of the Infected are showing more intolerance to sunlight, changes to regen and supposedly a greater hunger/more feral attitude.
How is this going to affect Asamando and the scattered ghoul communities?
They are already not well liked in many corners, but the attitude has been 'well as long as they stay over there and not in my back yard......'
Will some nations, especially those on their borders, decide it may be safer/easier to just remove the threat altogether rather than seek new solutions to the growing issue?
-
The removal for a somewhat cohese country is a possibility but where are those? And in every case if they start a purge like this and succeeed, and supposing the impossible and say "Succede Completely", being ghouldom an infective virus how they think they remain virusless for any string of time?
Oh a purge could happens but not a definitive measure at any lenght.
I don't see a problem in Asamando, well if they really go feral the problem will not be Asamando the facto no more a state to talk on but the near territory... I could see a Lagos zombie battle in the future, as that city wasn't feral enough..
-
The trouble with a purge would be sending in troops. Which are not only what ghouls eat but potentially more ghouls. Maybe a corporation will wipe them out with drones or something to get at their natural resources but I don't think their neighbors have the juice to pull it off.
Edit- I see a ghoul apocalypse on the horizon.
-
The Ghouls in Asamando are also trained in non-lethal combat.
They prefer to take prisoners with invading armies.
Take that as you will.
-
That's why you use drones. 8)
-
How is this going to affect Asamando and the scattered ghoul communities?
Probably badly.

And lots of them.

On the plus side, will finally be able to unload that SPF350 Sunblock been sitting in the warehouse for a bit.

Was afraid a lot of the responses would go straight to blow em up. Pity that synthetic food for ghoul chow has not really worked out, this could have been handy, which is probably why the Big D tried to nudge it along in the Will.
-
Big D had seen another breakout of that virus (or something VERY similar) in past eras, they know what was bound to happens and thought the technology could provide that surrogate metameat, and rightly so seeing our RL technology how did the syntethic meat not so much time ago, well from there to some synthetic meat made of metahuman cell is in the possibility of Megacorp biotech...
That's would be a thing I would see... and I could see how the Megas will use it, goes to some ghouls and say, works for me I'll give you food and maybe some who couldn't resist enter in our property

Do ghouls see zombie movies as exploitative? Or as comedies?
More on topic, killing them is just the natural reaction. Trying to make peace with something that wants to eat you generally doesn't work.

Dragons are a good example for this too....

Yeah you're right and that is bad because some are reasonable as a SR person with a difficult past and present could be (Hannibelle is one), in that Big D see it coming, probably he should do something more about it.
-

That's why "Never deal with a dragon" is a saying. Maybe feed the ghouls to the dragons? Hmm...

Not sure if ghouls taste well for a dragon

Maybe if you stewed them a bit with some veggies and spices, a sort of a ghoulash if you will. ;)

And Paprika, LOTS of paprika, they said that kill the bugs...or you need some awakened paprika... something like you need titanium grinder because... well, the thing tend to be REALLY hot when disturbed
-
Too true, nice 'n spicy.
Anyway, hope there is a future splatbook touching on the changing nature of the Infected. I mean if is it due to a change in mana and they are acting as sort of a barometer, what other changes are going on in the world that are being affected by it?

Another hypothesis is a retarded effect of a previous mana spike or mana level, like they'll respond some years late to the mana level

Or perhaps a failed attempt (or byproduct thereof) to stop/slow the rate at which the mana level was/is increasing. "Just sayin'."

I draw the line for "Can't we all just get along?" when the other side views me as food.
-
In game I think it's just natural occuring event as mana levels rise, maybe they rose to this level early.
Are ghouls and other infected player options in 5E? I know they were intruduced in a splat book in 4th, along with some other options. I"m assuming 5E core is just the primary homo sapiens ______.
-
So far no infected pcs in 5th. Which I find to be a Good Thingtm.
-
I have a feeling that the change to ghouls' behavior is the writer's attempts to turn ghouls back into "bad guys" and less into "snowflakes"....
Which is both bad and good in it's own way.
-
I have no idea what you're talking about.... ::)
-
Can we request NPCs to become ghoul chow?
-
I'm always open to requests, though obviously I can't make any promises....
-

Poor Hannibelle...I feel bad for her (and for all those wannabe ghouls, too)
-
They won't be wannabes for long. ;D
@ Patrick Goodman- My list is pretty long let me think about it for a bit. Clockwork is too obvious even though I'd love to see it in a deal gone wrong with Hannibelle.
-
'Belle's riding the razor's edge at the moment as it is, I think. It wouldn't be hard to do...so I probably wouldn't do it.
Though making him someone's lunch does sound fun.

Nooo... can not kill Clockwork off until CanRay gets that Slamm-O!/Clockwork Yaoi finished. :P
After that I will even bring the garnish and a lovely ghoul cap mushroom dish as an appetizer (no nutritional value for them, but they can still appreciate quality eats). :D

As much as I hate to say it, because I like her, Turbo Bunny during a scavenging trip seems the most plausible. :'(
Also how do you think the Netcat/toaster shipping fiction even happens? Ghoul Clockwork infects Slamm-0! in a moment of passion and the toaster comforts Netcat in more ways than one.

just curious;
Is there a name for your level of crazy?

would be especially bad if they got her while she was back on the BTL and zoned out.
Though that does raise the question, would the brain be more or less tasty if fried on BTL's?
Choosy Ghouls choose......

Does add new dimensions to the term poptart :P

Yes, but if we told you it would make you crazy too. ;)

Wasn't Omnitech and genetic research mentioned in earlier editions?
There might be a story update due for the Pan-African region.....
-
Omnitech has been in the gene business for a long time yeah.
@ Reaver- Malkav. Also I've been to Korea.

Malkav.....? you claiming to be of that brood? Ballsy. Crass, suicidal, but not all that unexpected if true :D
-
Omnitech has been in the gene business for a long time yeah.
Do you have any interesting source books in mind mentioning Omnitech?
Maybe about a drama between Ares and Omnitech?

No specific books about Omnitech unfortunately. Info on them is spread throughout a bunch of books, mostly the Augmentation/Cybertechnology/Shadowtech type books. I know they had a falling out with Aztechnology no beef that I can think of with Ares. My books are all packed away waiting for the movers so I can't do more research.

There is a short story in Street Legend about Knight selecting Firewatch team to join an experimental program with Knight Errant and sent to UO where they are invested with Insect Spirit via a "more technologic" way to construct an astral cocoon
-
Unlimitech is an Ares subsidiary.
-
And, to be clear, Universal Omnitech is not an Ares subsidiary. I've seen the two of them get conflated occasionally, which is why I bring it up.
-
Yes, I didn't clarify as much as I should have. The Firewatch team got sent to Unlimitech, which is an Ares subsidiary, not to UO which is not. In Sacrificial Limb you go in there.

And OK I confused the two bits for similar names. And I think I'm not the only one get confused by the two names, UO don't seems have Insect related tech or things like that or at least none that went somewhat "public" or canon...
-
Yeah, UO is more concerned with other things, like putting a major shareholder back together. The lack of information about them is disturbing really. For all we know they could be experimenting on ghouls or something.
-
The slow rise in ambient magic levels seems to be turning the Infected into the stereotyped monsters of legend, affecting even those already Turned.
The Dragons and I.E. can probably make some guesses as to the eventual (almost certainly tragic) outcome, but given that each World is different, even they might be surprised.
Perhaps living on the edge of an Astral Void or in an Aspected Magic zone might have some effect?
-

They were there pretty early in the VITAS breakout. In fact there were a couple of places on the map were Universal Omnitech were the only corp operating in the area when it reach pnademic levels there....
