Title: Getting Schooled at dice.
Post by: Sendaz on <01-05-16/2037:23>
So my granddaughter, age 10, comes up  and proclaims to me she has mastered the dice so that she can always roll a 7 or 11 on two six sided dice.

Amused by her statement, I told her alright let's see what you can do.

She rolls the first time...  it's a 7.

Rolls a second time, it's an 11.

Now I am figuring she got some loaded dice from her uncle, who is a bit of a rogue.

So I ask if I can see the dice, which she hands over to me.

They are both a clear red plastic so I can see right through them, so there is none of the usual inner holes/metal bits you might expect.

Rolling them in the hand and just doing a rough feel of the sides tells me they are not noticeably weighted to any one side or misshaped.

So I roll the dice... sure enough it comes up a 7 the first time followed by an 11 on the next throw.

I sit there pondering this trying to think of what I missed, all the while my granddaughter is giggling away at me.

Then as I really look at the dice, it hits me.

One die has all 5s on it's sides while the other die has just 2s and 6s. So 7 and 11 is ALL it can possibly roll.
I failed to notice it because I was just so used to looking at the TOP of the dice to read the numbers, the rest of the die is incidental.

So we both had a good laugh at silly grandpa.

Well she certainly seems like Charisma 7 to me, but that may be grandparental bias. :P

And she does seem to try to negotiate a lot when we tell her to do things, so yeah it could be her calling. ;)
