Title: Woohoo!
Post by: Namikaze on <02-10-14/1600:28>
Woohoo!  I suppose this is the first post of the new board.  I'm excited about Crossfire.  I love these kinds of games when they work well.  Is there any chance of getting into a beta test?  :)

Beta testing has been going on for over a year now (I think)...doubt they're still taking applicants. That being said, very happy to see this...hopefully it's an indication that we're getting close to a release announcement.

Given the state of the rules I saw the other week, I'm guessing playtesting is all said and done.

Are these rules publicly available?  If so, where can I get my hands on them?

I thought that RNB posted (Jan 22 (http://www.shadowruntabletop.com/2014/01/crossfire-game-play-example/))that they were pretty much done and hoped to be able release them shortly:

First up as we get back on track, here’s the pre-final Crossfire game play example that appears in the back of the book; I say pre-final because it might change very slightly between now and the final rulebook (which, if my evil plans work out, we’ll be leaking soon).

Hopefully we'll be seeing something soon.  ;D

You've been slacking at it recently, so I'm glad there's a chance for you to get back in the game. :)

I am looking forward to it.  This is the first deck-building game I am interested in.

Ino, ino. But it's better to joke about it. :)

So is the model for Crossfire more of a Living Card Game or the Collectible Card Game?  To be clear on the difference: in a Living Card Game you know exactly what you're going to get with each pack or addition.  With the Collectible model, there is a degree of randomness in what you'll get with a pack.

If I recall the information provided correctly, it's an LCG which does expansions. It kinda sounds like more of a boardgame disguised as cardgame.

That was my understanding too.  And honestly this is what I'm hoping for.  But I know that things can change, and I hope that they don't change too much from the original design.

Same here. More of my friends skew towards casual gaming, getting people to sit down to play an RPG just doesn't fly. They don't have the time to devote nor the desire to put in the effort to play in a campaign. But a new card game? In a group that loves games like Dominion and Race For The Galaxy? Oh, this one should be well received.

I have my friends that get together every weekend to play Shadowrun tabletop, but I know for a fact that they would be all over this game as well.  We often have times when a person calls in sick or something, but we still want to get our fix.  This might just do it perfectly.

I pretty much have to buy the main set and check it out. It says Shadowrun after all!
I wonder if it is like dominion/ascension or more like Android:Netrunner.
If it's like the first pair I'll love it!
If it's like the second I'll have to make some difficult choices in the near future ...

LCG means non randomized boosters, no ultra rares or buying your way to the best decks.  If it has deckbuilding strategy it's a card game, no matter how many tokens and counters it seems to want to use.

I was imagining something akin to the Resident Evil deckbuilding game or Legendary rather than the Pathfinder or Game of Thrones card games...

How close to the Original Shadowrun Card Game back in the 90s?

1)  Crossfire is a Deckbuilder Game, not a Living Card Game.

LCG's involve each player buys sets of non-randomized cards, and then building decks from those before the game starts, and once play starts there's not much difference between them and a CCG.  Deckbuilders have each player ultilizing a singular source of cards, and building their decks as they play the game.

2)  It's nothing like the SRTCG from the 90's.

3)  It's a cooperative game.  Each player takes the role of a runner and try to beat challenges and win specific scenarios.

4)  It's closer in general style to Dominion than Netrunner, mainly because of point 1.  Each game always utilizes the same pool of cards, rather than being a bunch of different cards piles you can mix-n-match.

5)  The game is progressive.  That is, each game you can earn karma for your character, and buy skills that give you bonuses for future games.  So, for eaxmple, you might start with more cards or more money each game, or certain cards might be more powerful.  If you've played Pathfinder Deckbuilder, it's a little like that.

6)  There's a Demo Set with stripped down rules and a limited selection of cards that were used to demo the game at Gen Con last year.  CGL also gave a few demo sets away to fans who were playing various Shadowrun games over the weekend. :)

7)  I've played quite a bit with the demo set (and a little with some kitbashed cards utilizing the full rules).  It is a lot of fun. :)

Thanks for the info, Bull.  That actually sounds EVEN BETTER than before.  I especially like the aspect of growth over time.

5 reminds me of the D&D dungeon-crawling boardgame, that's fun. :)

I got a demo copy at GenCon. I love the premise of the game but when someone compared it to Uno I couldn't get that out of my head but it does come down to matching colors. But there is a lot of gameplay that is left out of the demo kit so I'm sure it'll be a lot more meaty than that.

Hopefully they'll release the rule book shortly (as hinted)...that should give us a much better idea as to how things will work. ;D

We also got a demo box at PAX last year when we were doing some demos. We've also added the additional cards that Randall has posted on his blog. It's a really fun game for SR players

I won't try to describe the game here, because I think a lot of others have done a good job of that. However, I got to play a couple of games of it at GenCon this past summer. As merely a player of Shadowrun, I just want to assure you all, that this is a very fun game! I too felt that it was missing something, but then, it was only the demo of the game, not the full, final rule set, so I'm sure there will be even more. I only wish I could have gotten my hands on a demo set myself!

This game looks so fun and I can't wait for it to come out... this looks like a great deck building game with some persistent elements to it and done in a better way than the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, which just bored me to tears.
