I'm brand-new to Shadowrun and I'm currently trying to stumble through making my first character.
I'm mostly looking for help with catching errors, correcting obvious mis-steps ("What? You did't take the Pottery skill? Everyone knows that's absolutely vital to all runners!),and... gear. I'm so totally lost on gear that it isn't even funny. It's just that there's so much of it that it's a little daunting. I know I want some cyber enhancements, and weapons are obviously necessary, so beyond that I'm clueless.
Without further ado, he's my crummy newb character:
Name: Jesus DeJesus, "Eight-Stone"
Metatype: Troll (40 BP)
Background: Jesus DeJesus was born a SINless troll in crippling poverty, like many, many others. Blessed with good genes, he grew to truly intimidating proportions rather quickly. He learned that a man that can take a punch is always in high demand, and quickly made a meager career as a mercenary, selling his strong arm to whichever of the local petty gangs could keep him flush with cash, drugs and favors. It wasn't long before he was able to scrape up enough money and influence to begin shadowrunning in his home town of WhereverIsConvenientFortheDMVille.
Luckily, men who can take a punch (or a bullet, or a concussive blast, or a massive electric shock... Jesus prides himself on his versatility) like "Eight-Stone" are in pretty low supply. Renowned for his toughness, the nickname Eight-Stone is a rough estimate of how many thrown rocks to the head it would take to bring Jesus down.
For his part, Eight-Stone considers himself to simply be another working shlub. He's a shadowrunner because it seems like the most amount of money he can make for the least amount of work. He's had some success so far, but some of his old gang contacts resent him for his disloyal, sellsword ways.
Eight-Stone's only real, discernible passion for anything is his love of video games. He plays modern games like Sword of Ages and Grand Arcanum, but his all time favorite game is the ancient and venerable battle of wits known as Starcraft. Eight-Stone is prone to opening up an AR window to play a quick game when things get too "boring" at a work. Though only a moderately-skilled player at best, Eight-Stone hopes to someday be good enough to go pro. In the meantime, running the shadows will have to suffice.

Contacts
Silas Sesselman (Connection 3, Loyalty 2, 5 BP)- Affable Australian street doc that installed much of Eight-Stone's cyberware.
"Mr. Twist" (Connection 4, Loyalty 1, 5 BP)- Aloof and shadowy fixer that helped Eight-Stone graduate from petty thuggery to less-than-petty thuggery (also known as shadowrunning). They've only met face-to-face once or twice, and even then, Mr. Twist took pains to conceal his appearance. The man's a bit paranoid.
Julissa "Claw" Oramas (Connection 2, Loyalty 4, 5 BP)- The only person from Eight-Stone's gang days that he's still on relatively friendly terms with. She's a tough street ork that keeps an ear to the ground for Eight-Stone. In return, Eight-Stone punches out the occasional ex-boyfriend.
