I'm new to shadowrun and after hearing about some of the different options available to me I decided on being a rigger.

A little bit about the game I'm going to be running in.  I believe our gm is going to be running a "npc" hacker so that the players don't have to do this.  We were given 500 build points to play with.  I've already gotten my basic character finished and will upload the stats from it a bit later when I'm not having to use my cell phone for internet.  I have 300000¥ to play with and was wondering where I should start.

I'm probably going to be sitting in the car for most missions unless its one of those where I need to be inside to operate my drones or something... anyhow 300000¥ never played before an d wanting to play a rigger any advice would be appretiated

Get yourself an Airplane (Fiat Fokker Tundra 9) or a used Helicopter (Hughes Stallion)

That really depends upon what Kind of Char do You want to play . What is his Job ?
is he the Stunt/Escape Driver ?
the Chauffeur for the Group ?
Is he Drone Rigger and responsible for Intel ?
Or for Back Up Heavy Artillery ?
Is He responsible for Matrix security of the Team ?
Is his Job to Fight other Drones and/or to become the "Anti-Spider" (by entering the CHN and granting Acces to his Chummers and fighting the Security Spider(= Building Rigger in control of Home Drones and Home Security)
(and for Advanced Chars : will he be driving a Mech ?)
or a Mix of two Jobs ?
Which one is it ?

If You know ,what You want to play ,than we can Help.
Or else You'll get 20 different Opinions from a Dozen players here

so I'm not even 100% sure what will be expected of me
Ask them !
If You would be playing with Me ,I'd expect you to do a good job

One thing I'll mention is that you want to be careful about how much money you sink into your vehicle.  Cars in Shadowrun tend to get wrecked up a lot, and it hurts as a rigger to cross off your pimped out westwind because it got wrapped around a lamp post and hit by an RPG.

That said, the vehicle I keep coming back to as a rigger is the humble GMC Bulldog.  Common enough that no one will look at it twice, lots of room for drones, teammates, gear, ect.  Put a Chameleon coating on it, Gridlink Override, Oil Slick Sprayers and a Morphing Plate and you'll be good to go.

The Bulldog and Citymaster have been the Rigger's mobile HQ for pretty much as long as there have been Riggers. I'd suggest at least one Ferret drone for recon. Extra mod slots and ease of camouflage make them excellent for infiltration. Once you've got that down, see the questions above. Its pretty easy to build recon and fire support drones.

Oh, and get sat links for everything you can afford to. It'll be a long time before you have to worry about Signal 8 being jammed.

What books are you using?

Core has limited options compared to what's in Arsenal..
