Title: The Frame Job
Post by: AJCarrington on <06-01-19/0933:08>
Figured I'd create a separate thread to pull all the links for various parts of this series as they come out:

The Frame Job, Part 1: Yu (https://store.catalystgamelabs.com/products/shadowrun-the-frame-job-part-1-yu)

THE FIRST SHADOWRUN FICTION SET IN THE SIXTH WORLD EDITION OF THE GAME!

FIVE RUNNERS. ONE JOB. AND A WHOLE LOT OF TROUBLE...

It should have been a simple walk in the corp. Stroll into a mid-level corporation disguised as a nameless mid-level manager in a suit, deliver an unknown data package to an isolated network, and stroll out again.

But nothing is ever simple in the shadows.

Now five shadowrunners are on the run themselves. Framed by their employer, the mysterious Mr. Johnson, and marked for termination by every hired cop, corp security, and fellow shadowrunner in Seattle, the team must find out who set them up, why they did it, and figure out how to deliver payback—without getting killed in the process.

The Frame Job, Part 1 is the first in a brand-new, six-novella story set in the gritty, dark future, magic-and-machine world of Shadowrun. This ZIP file contains both the Kindle (.mobi) and the ebook versions of the story.

PART TWO OF THE ORIGINAL SHADOWRUN SIXTH WORLD EDITION NOVELLA SERIES!

FIVE RUNNERS. ONE JOB. AND A WHOLE LOT OF TROUBLE...

Now that the shadowrunning team knows they've been double-crossed by one of the largest megacorps in the Sixth World, they've got two jobs to do: clear their name and deliver payback with a vengeance.

While hiding out on the outskirts of Seattle, Aussie rigger Emu begins taking steps toward that exact plan by trying to find out who set them up with Knight Errant, but she's also got other problems; juggling an outstanding mob debt and handling a side courier run for a friend in exchange for intel on the corp Johnson.

However, even the best laid plans can go wrong, and Emu has to find a way to accomplish all all three jobs while staying one step ahead of her enemies...and their bullets.

Note: This ZIP file contains both the ebook and Kindle (.mobi) versions of this story.

FIVE RUNNERS. ONE JOB. AND A WHOLE LOT OF TROUBLE...

Rude didn’t have much planned after the Telestrian run…sleep in and wait for his share of the payday. But when Zipfile calls asking him to run stealthy back-up on Yu’s meet with the Johnson for payment, the troll heads to the warehouse district to keep an eye on things…and finds a lot more than he bargained for.

Now, after fighting his way through the high-level ambush that nearly killed Yu, Rude hits the streets looking for information on who tried to kill them…and who hired them to do it.

But the infinite pixels of the Matrix only lead to more questions at first, until the resourceful dwarf approaches their problem from a new angle…that nearly gets her and another team member killed.

Before their run is over, Zipfile uncovers even more danger in the neon sprawl of the Matrix…and those bits and bytes of data could prove more deadly than anything in the meat world…

THE THRILLING CONCLUSION OF THE FRAME JOB SERIES!

Double-crossed. Ambushed. One, and possibly two megacorps out for their heads...

Yu, Emu, Rude, Frostburn, and Zipfile have been through a lot in the last few days. Their backs are against the wall. And when that happens, there’s only one thing left to do—come out swinging (or in Rude’s case, shooting).

Their recon and data-gathering has all paid off. They know who to hit, where to hit them, and how. Now all they gotta do is infiltrate a heavily secure corp building in a busy business area of Seattle in broad daylight and bring it down…from the inside. And all that stands in their way is Mr. Johnson himself, corp security, and another hundred and one things that could go wrong…

And, assuming they can pull this mission off, there’s still the matter of the second Johnson who hired them…and who might want to ensure there are no loose ends after this job. Will the Frame Job be the team's last one, or will they use everything they have to find a way to come out on top?

This file contains both the Kindle (.mobi) and the ebook versions of the story.

I'd been waiting for this to all be released before I started reading, as I wanted to make sure there wouldn't be any downtime once I began.

Picked up part one last night. I'm only about a third into it, but so far it's interesting.

I'm also waiting for a single volume... plus the idea of paying $24 for all the individual shorts is a bit steep for me.

Nothing that I’ve heard of, but one never knows. If they do, I would not expect it anytime in the near future.

A really poor attempt to create a 30th anniversary logo.

Yes, why don't we put the international symbol for smut on our cover...

Critical glitch identified.

what's wrong with the also widely known number 30 in Roman numerals? Worked for the Superbowl 30 logo, works for the Shadowrun anniversary logo thing.

1)  XXX is literally the international symbol for adult content, meaning nudity.  Is that what this is?  No.
2)  The Superbowl is literally the only example I can think of that counts past 20 in roman numerals.  It's extremely uncommon.  A quick Google search is all you need to see how ubiquitous the usage of xxx is.
2.5)  The Superbowl is known to have counted their way up in roman numerals.  This just has xxx slapped on out of nowhere.

Is it a huge deal?  No.  Is it at all helpful to the company to use that as a logo?  Not in the least.  That's why I consider it an extremely intelligent design *atomic eyeroll*

It also doesn't help that it is in pink neon ... but XXX is the proper Roman numerical for 30
Title: Re: The Frame Job
Post by: Noble Drake on <09-24-19/1750:12>
does it help? No.
does it have to help? No.
does it hurt? No.

Are there plenty of things that have had usage of the roman numeral for 30 that aren't the allegedly widely used notation for adult content? Definitely. Wrestlemania 30 is another example.

And while XXX has been used as a marker of adult content since the late 60s, it's actually more common now to find materials simply labeled as "adult" or with a specific age limitation than for them to say XXX.

So again, I am left wondering what the big deal about a neon pink stylized 30 on a product is.

Below it you can read "Est. 1989", making clear it's a year thing.

So again, I am left wondering what the big deal about a neon pink stylized 30 on a product is.

It’s just bad graphic design. Pink neon XXX is too ambiguous. It leaves the viewer with no clear interpretation of what the iconography is meant to represent and shows that someone with no training or even a basic understanding of graphic design is working on this product. It brings down everything else that has been done with the book, all the excellent artwork, the page layout, the font choices and degrades the IP

Just one more instance of the powers that be not taking any pride whatsoever in their product.

Because we know they've always been very serious about the image of Shadowrun.

Pink XXX with Est. 1989 underneath it is too ambiguous and a reason to attack the integrity of CGL??? Hell no the anniversary logo is awesome. I got two shirts with it.

FastJack, that image is very much Shadowrun. A perfect representation of substance and attitude. The 30th logo is just bad design ascetics, the BattleTech anniversary logo is just as bad. They both show a lack of thought and inability to focus on the details within the decision chain.

There is so much that is good within this IP, and this company, but that lack of attention to the details is hurting the line, the IP and the company in the long run.

It's not "bad design aesthetics" just because you don't personally like it.
It's not "bad graphic design" because that's an objective thing you are stating your subjective opinion as (see the difference between the phrases "I'm not a fan" and "it's trash" and the way people use them as synonymous despite those differences.)
And it's not "too ambiguous" by a long shot. I seriously doubt anyone won't either immediately understand the purpose of the XXX, or get the meaning via the provided context of "Est. 1989" and the product with the logo on it being released in 2019, as even the complaints against the usage of Roman numerals come from people that are aware that XXX is a number too.

Did CGL have any copies of Shadowrun: The Complete Frame Job printed for Gen Con?

I'm Primarily into BT these days, but I still enjoy the SR Fiction.  I got into SR when it was "New", though I don't have anyone to game with anymore, so I haven't gotten any game stuff since the 2nd Edition.  I bought a LOT of BT stuff at GC, and some SR novels, but I can't remember if I got this there or not.  I'm also in the process of moving, so I'm not 100% Certain where all my "GC Loot" is at the moment.   :-\

I saw something on FB earlier, about this being available on Amazon, but since I know they will sometimes print stuff for GC, I wasn't sure if that was the case for this book or not.  For all I know, the last part was recently written/published, so it might not have even been Complete to make it to GC.  Anyway, I'd rather know Before I possibly buy a 2nd copy.   ;D

On an Unrelated note, your "Verify the Letters" thing is a bit difficult for me to read.  I was able to get it correct, though I clicked the "Listen To" link to double-check.  I've got bad eyesight anyway, but your "Verification" thing is the worst I've had to deal with.  Sadly, I ALSO understand WHY you've got it.   :(

Finally, Godzilla is also a large flying lizard that breathes fire. :P   ;D
