Post by: Shadowrun2007 on <02-11-20/1315:26>

Is that the Microsoft abomination?
If so, probably not ... or at the very least not in connection with the current license holders.

Microsoft owns the license for videogames, so they're the only ones that can bring those servers up.

Microsoft said Catalyst Game Labs is in charge of the servers now

I wonder if CGL knows that, lol ... it has least not been even hinted at in the trickle down information we get on the demo team.

Is there anyway to let CGLs know that they are in charge of that and that there is a community that would like to see that game comeback If Shadowrun 2007 was on Steam rn it would most likely have traction

Interesting enough just heard back from him and he said as far as he knows Catalyst does not own any of the Microsoft products, but people are free to contact him if they want or have further information.

EDIT: cleaned up for further clarity... grrr typing on phone

Yeah I’m guessing that CGL has the rights to the game and might have to green light to Microsoft to let the servers back on but I’m not sure Michael might be right it might just be Microsoft’s problem. Microsoft’s license might be gone now that might be the issue

What I remember from Shadowrun Returns and Shadowrun Lockdown, is that Microsoft owns the videogame license rights and any videogame developer needs to sublicense from them. The same way that Topps owns the tabletop license and goodies license, and CGL sublicenses the tabletop rights (and seems to have finally made a deal for goodie rights as well, given the t-shirts).

Yeah I betting that's a case of the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. Looks like that response is from the xbox team and the answer is in the hands of the Microsoft home office.

There is a lot of issues also with the game.

Remember, it was one of the first games included in Windows new "LIVE" services that were to be a host of cross platform games and apps for PC and Xbox. As such it contains coding structures embedded for both xbox and PC..... a version of windows and a service (Live) that is no longer supported....

Add in the actual costs of the server, no new customer base to buy a 12 year old game...
I doubt very much Mircosoft will fork out the $5000 a month to keep a server going.
(Based off the costs to run the CoH private server)

Yeah that would make sense why they shut the servers off it really sucks because this was a game just put out at the wrong time. It had multiplayer down but it came out when Halo 3 did literally so it never got the attention it garnered. If it had launched now it wouldn’t have received so much flak.

Well except that it had nothing to do with Shadowrun.  I actually liked playing it as long as I didn't think about what they called it.

Do I remember correctly that multiplayer was online only?

I believe so yes.

Nerd Slayer did a "Death of a Game" video on it.

While not Multiplayer, might I suggest people that haven't tried Shadowrun:  Returns, Shadowrun:  Dragonfall, and Shadowrun:  Hong Kong give those a shot.  They're all on Steam, and are by Harebrained Schemes, who licensed the video games from Microsoft.

Microsoft owns the rights to Shadowrun as a video game.  Topps owns the rights to Shadowrun as a Tabletop game (and CGL licenses it from them.).

If you're into Retro Gaming, there is also the SNES and Sega Genesis Shadowrun games.

And for my next trick, anvils!
