The Next Round is a cliche and that's part of its charm. The fake wood paneling was the bright idea of the previous manager, put up to hide the yellowed tobacco stained walls. The main bar isn't much to look at, the long bar with the old circular spinning stools bolted to the ground and two rows of booths. The ork Gunderson sits at the booth furthest from the entrance an ever present fixture in this place. Opposite him is the stairwell one flight leading up, one flight leading down.
The cage matches held downstairs are brutal and bloody just like people like them. Standing at the staircase are an odd pair. A moderately sized troll with round Lennon glasses and a beatnik beard dreadlocks and a necklace of beads named Jacob and a new guy crew cut blonde hair obvious armor that looks like a Wild hunt knockoff, he may not be as tall as Jacob but he looks about as big around as he is. They stop anyone who doesn't belong upstairs or down. Upstairs is another story you have no idea what goes on other than the ghostly clack of billiards tables in use.
You both arrive with time to spare.

Sky doesn't goes into the bar as soon as she enters. Instead, she spends a moment to look at the crowd. Probably checking the situation... Or looking for something...or someone.
In the end, apparently satisfied, she enters, and goes straight to Gunderson. She really doesn't want to spend more time than absolutely necessary in here "Hi."

Tedd grabs a stool by the bar and orders a glass of water, he is broke to a degree where even fake beer seems expensive. Until he delivers the car to Oz that is.
He spots Gunderson talking with someone, and knows better than disturb the man. The last thing he needs is to learn about something he should not know and get on the bad side of his creditor.

Gunderson waves Ted over and starts once he joins you. We need to track down a creature we believe is infected, that's infected with a capital I. We are thinking so sort of new ghoul type maybe. The poor sap was a fellow named Murphy who was being killed by another one of these things but got interrupted. The killer fled and Murphy was left for dead but upon returning the body was gone. Seems it walked off on its own. We got a good deal of it's blood and we will provide you with a way to track this thing but it will involve some ritual magic. I don't know the details Sky, but Jack will lead it he said he'd need two bodies with magic to cast it, so that's you two. If you accept I will tell you where to meet Jack to get started. You two up for this?

Sky nods warily at Tedd, then listens quietly.
She then shrugs and answers Gunderson's question "Like I said yesterday, it'll depend on what that Jack has to say. He's the one we have to talk to about the conditions of the job after all, right? But an unknown type of Infected? None of those are exactly easy to deal with, and all of them are dangerous. To say nothing of our own risks to be infected in turn. So I'll want to make sure that this Jack knows what he's doing. And that the job pays accordingly of course."

Ted attempts not to burst in laughter once Gunderson mentions ritual magic. In an honest attempt to keep serious. "Ritual magic?!it is not like you to pull my leg like that... He took a deep breath and said
Now seriously, I do not do magic. I am technically awakened but I certainly cannot perform any rituals.I have no problem to do the job but you better find someone else for rituals. There are many mundane things that I can do to find that person.

"I was told this Jack doesn't need people able to perform rituals, as long as they're awakened. We'll probably just have to stand and keep our mouths shut or some such."

Tedd seems shaken he asks "Which is probably what I should do now before I get into more troubles, but may I ask what sort of magic are we talking about? He is not going to practice blood magic or something that dangerous right?"

Sky shrugs "Probably not something that bad. And if it's the case, there'll be one less blood mage in town so..."

"Well I do not like the idea of serving as a battery for some evil magic but my options are limited, I am Tedd by the way" He then added "A driver and decker. Do you need a ride?"

I don't really know shit about magic but Jack's a stand up guy I doubt he's into anything "evil". He's real anti-corporate but he has a special kind of hate for those Atzlan douchebags. Gunderson looks at Sky and continues speaking directly to her. I, er, told him a little of your past. Just enough to keep him from interrogating you, you know with your accent. I didn't want him to assume, ya know. Kept it professional though no real details.
I'm offering 15 grand for taking care of the problem. I mean if he's a ghoul and not feral just tell him to follow the rules and we won't need him dead, but if he's dangerous we need to put him down. I can give you access to any special equipment you might need, within reason. Big ticket items would have to be returned in decent condition, yadda yadda yadda. You guys interested? If not I gotta find some more people and we are a little pressed for time.

Sky first answers to Tedd with a nod "I'm Sky."
She listens quietly to Gunderson. Not really liking the first part of his speech, but admitting it's probably for the best. At the second part, she frowns suspiciously "Are you trying to take advantage of my good heart by admitting you're pressed for time, hoping I won't use that to agree to raise that payment a bit?"
She smiles ruefully "Because if that's the case, you're out of luck. I'll admit 15k is a reasonable basis but it's only that, a basis. A rush job concerning an Infected..." She shakes her head. After a second, she adds "Oh and in addition, I'll want you to tell me more about Jack. To keep things fair, since you told him about me."

Sky Seems to hesitate a couple of seconds, while glancing at Ted. It's mostly for show though, 10k apiece is quite the payout. She does have the slightest idea of what she could do with that, but she doesn't doubt she'll be able to find something.
So of course, she nods "Alright, that enough for me. Where do we meet this Jack? Oh and I'll still need you to send me some data on him to even things out."

"Fine" Said Tedd , "just reduce my debt 10k when I am done." The things I need to do for money... Ritual magic and shit... If I ever get off the hook I am never borrowing a cent in my life."
"Do you need a ride ?" Asked Tedd, and then texted Oz >> Your car is ready when can you pick her up?

Tedd texted Oz - "Sure thing, I'll head right back to my shop - meet there in 30 min." (or any other time it would take Tedd to get back home). Excited, Tedd looked at Gunderson and Sky and said "So it is settled we'll do it, send the contact details and I'll schedule a meeting with the mage guy. "
Looking at Sky he asked "So are you riding with me - or do we meet there?"

The appointment is now. Here's the address. Ask for Jack and they will see you up to him. The address is to a club called the Asylum
As for Jacks past I don't know much about it except he was in San Diego when Atzlan invaded California and something happened to him there. He hates Atzlan.

Sky grumbles "Yeah well, that makes two of us." She shakes her head, then looks at Tedd. "And yes, I'll need a lift. I was told going to that sort of things on my bike wasn't the most efficient way to make a good impression. Go figure."

Tedd said " Well my Morgan is all for impression... Not much more than a strong engine on a reinforced cage. Doors are over rated. We won't be too long to get there.
Once in the Morgan Tedd speed up, he clearly loved that Buggy. "We are going to do a bit of detour, but I am a fast driver no worries. Your negotiation skills might help. I need to deliver a car I fixed before going on this gig."
He drove very fast with a euphoric smile on his face to meet Oz.

Sky stays silent for a couple of seconds "Let me be sure I understand right. We got a job, we're supposed to meet someone for said job as soon as possible, you decide to go on a random personal task without asking for my opinion, a thing that you should have done before coming to the meet, and instead of admitting that maybe it's not the thing to do, you propose to drop me back at the bar to let me go alone while you do your thing? Did I get everything right or is there something I misunderstood?"

Look gangsters do not wake up early and I live in a bad hood. I am going to deliver the fixed car while it is still pristine. You can either hop along or not, but I am not trusting my monthly survival on ritual magic. I have it rough already without someone trying to hinder my efforts to get a decent pay on that work. You are either in or out... not in between.

Sku shrugs "Well then I'm out. Drop me at the ritual place or back at the bar. I do not care about gangsters waking hours or stuff like that. What I care about is that this drek is not professional at all. And unlike you, this is not something I do on the side and can afford to half-ass."

Tedd enters, saying "I am here alright, let's do that darn ritual. Do I get a candle or anything? " Looking at Sky nursing her mug, he smiles and asks "How is their tea?" Tedd would have been mad, but having some money feels good. Ofcourse, he'll just give that money to Gunderson... but still for the time being it is his money.

When Tedd enters, Sky glances lazily in his direction. She cocks an eyebrow, surprised, but doesn't say anything. She empties her cup of tea and thanks Jesus, then gets into the elevator to go to Jack.

Tedd watches Sky empties her glass and comments "Still stressed I see, next time try chamomile I heard it is relaxing." he joins the rest in the elevator.

Sky sighs, rubbing her eyes tiredly "Are you trying as hard as you can to be obnoxious or is it a natural gift?" she shakes her head "Never mind, I'm not here for that. Let's complete this job quickly."

"Well we could already be chanting and dancing if you just tagged along... Nevermind that - it is a job and you do not have to text me afterwards. Let's hold candles and chant or whatever..."
To be sincere Mages just rub Tedd in a bad way and well there may be two in that elevator with him... Tedd indeed hope that the ritual will end quickly and the couple can move back to relaying on actual science. "Can't trust a guy that performs a ritual rather than hack stuff to discover something."

Sky scowls "Seriously? I refused to go on your 'errand', so according to you it's now my fault we're late? There's something really wrong with you, hombre."
She shakes her head. As the elevator stops, she gets down and nods at Jesus "Thanks Jesus, I know the way I suppose."

Tedd scoffed "Bitch please, you had me going here twice, nearly doubled my mileage. Well at least you had some tea." Well they did not just grab some awakened from the street to fill their little unholy Minyan... that was a plus for Tedd. Not that they were that easy to come by.

Sky's eyebrows rise "Oh, and now you're insulting? That's even better..." she pinches the edge of her nose. After a moment, she squares her shoulders and advances, looking for Jack.

Tedd said "Insulting? You are over sensitive... That was me being nice. I mean I brought you here on time didn't I? How can you possibly complain. Your tight ass is safe - by the book, you are a metronome a swiss clock - or whatever."

Not turning back, Sky simply says "I'm sure." but doesn't bother detailing whatever she's sure about... Though given her tone, she could have said "Yeah right." or "Whatever." and it would have been the same thing...

Jack apparently notices your arrival because you see him strutting through the tent flaps heading your way. He's beaming at the two of you. All right kiddos lets get this show on the road. He comes up short, hand out to greet Tedd, apparently notices the tension between the two of you and shrugs. Animosity will help fuel the spell. Not sure it makes for a great team though.

Sky sighs "Probably not." She shakes her head lightly, then shrugs "So, what is it we're supposed to do, since none of us knows anything about rituals?"

Tedd shock Jacks hand and nodded.

Okay no need for introductions then. So basically you two stand here and here, he says indicating your spots in the magic circle. I'll place a few things on the altar do a little chanting in Latin then when I reach out to touch the altar you guys touch your finger tips to the altar as well and that's it.
Once he is sure you have it he has you stand in place and begins. He takes a swig of some sort of alcohol you can smell from where you're standing and spits it out in a spray covering the altar. He lights two candles, places them in the center and lays a compass between them. He picks up a chalice and pours a thick red liquid over the compass and candles extinguishing their flames. He picks up a tome and begins chanting in a loud commanding voice reading a passage from the book in Latin, shouting the last few words then places his hand on the Altar.

Sky very obviously does not react when Jack comments about the need for introductions. She listens quietly when he explains about what she needs to do. Good thing is, even if she doesn't know anything about rituals, she can't screw this up... All the while, she looks into the Astral, curious to see how it translates on that side. When the time comes, she does as she was told to, putting her hand on the Altar as soon as Jack does so.

Ouch! cried Tedd with as he placed his finger on the alter... I feel like someone kicked me from the inside.

In the meat world nothing very interesting happens. There's a flash of light and your ears ring a bit. When your vision clears the red liquid is gone, but those who can see into the astral see whorls and wisps of mana eddy and pool in the geometric confines of the magic circle as it pulls off your body. When you reach forward to touch the altar the mana rushes up the altar in glowing streams following the rivulets of the red liquid that run down its sides. The mana rushes into the compass and the astral explodes in a scintillating spray of colors.
There ya go, says Jack. The compass should point toward whatever this thing is instead of north.
He gathers a few things into a shoulder satchel and turns back to you. Let's go kids. I got somewhere I need to be.

Sky looks a bit dubiously at the compass "I suppose so... I suppose it doesn't take elevation into account, so we'd better hope he's not hiding in a tower or the sewers I suppose?"

If you hold it on the side it can give give elevation, but that will only work once fairly close to the target.

Tedd thanks Jack and heads down to his car. He tried to put that entire magic thing behind him. "Lets follow the compass " he said to Sky and then added you like giving orders so you hold it."

Sky shrugs. She considers saying something for a moment, but it would just escalate the conflict. Best get this over and done with as soon as possible and put that stuff behind.
