RG6: DAMAGE FOR NO DEFENSE
If an attack decreases a target’s Defense Test pool below 0 dice, additional penalties are added to the DV of the attack at a rate of 1 DV per two lost dice. This makes Full Auto or Burst Fire attacks against unaware or restrained foes truly deadly.

Once he gets the messages from Sam he immediately jumps into VR and begins searching for the comms so he can make sure there are no more surprise attackers. Once he finds the 5 comms he sends a message to the others.
<<<Found 5 comms but I'm still missing the deck that I was cracking. Here are the locations...(Insert ARO overlay with locations.)
I'm going to listen in to their chatter and let you know what they are doing.
@Poindexter: I think I got a little lost going between the IC and OOC threads. Does Crumpled know that he's been part of "Blue" team from before this mission or not? Have you shared the info you've gathered with everyone? If you have (or at least shared it with him), he's going to ask you for some information about himself as I don't see a commlink or any info found on him.
"Well... I do have ONE thing to add to it. I believe Chino, Crumple Stilskin, Big "O" right here," he motions to the dwarf as he continues, "and myself have been a team for a while. For the purposes of this discussion, I'll call us blue team. The four of us met the rest of you yesterday. Let's call you red team, shall we? I must assume if you go through your comm history, you'll find something similar. Given this fact, I'm forced to assume that either red team was hired for the job and blue team is extra work put on by the johnson, or vice versa. Follow me?"
In my head, Ohanzee is doing this from inside the Rover - mostly because it's cold outside and the team needs to get moving - but that was never explicitly stated.Yes, he waited until the rover was moving before attempting to open the crate.
Yes, he waited until the rover was moving before attempting to open the crate.
I'm not entirely sure our SINs are not being tracked.
Zweiblumen, the signal connection out here is weak. Noise is currently 3 due your distance from town and the heavy snow currently in progress. Given the obscure nature of the object, the duration of the search could be anywhere from 30 minutes to 12 hours.
Just a reminder to Zweiblumen that Ohanzee would like to have his contacts and commlink added to Crumpled's PAN.
Also, the suggestion was on the table to have Crumpled look into any contacts that people chose to share, if the new players want to see if we can learn more about our past and our options going forward through them.
What's the goal of the Navigation roll? You know where you are, specifically Highway 82 headed west-northwest into Aspen. If you're looking for a place to stay, that would be more of a local area knowledge roll rather than Navigation.
Did Ryo give folks points to spend in Knowledge Skills?
7: The Crumpled Man. Played by: Ravensoracle

Also, Reggie's connection in Aspen was Vinny the Bear. The group has Vinny's commcode, and he is expecting the delivery of his horned bear presently. It has not been pursued beyond that, although Ohanzee was familiar with the name via his Organized Crime knowledge skill.Yeah, we can contact him, but it would be best to leave out the hunters and the horned bear altogether. He's not likely to be in a good mood about not getting his pet. It might be best to contact him in a few days after he's had a chance to cool off. In IC, Ohanzee has put the option on the table (in the old thread) but is currently working under the assumption that we won't be contacting him this evening.
Qualia: Derived from a reptilian species, this hormone
stimulates neural activity in the reptilian hind mind and the sensory-
dedicated lobes, ultimately affecting the intuitive subconscious
grasp of sensory information. Qualia is believed to be a form of
organic storage of raw empirical data associated with prior sensory
stimuli, which can reinforce a subject’s ability to absorb and react
to input from their environment (even on a subconscious level).
Characters with this modification receive a +1 dice pool modifier
to all Intuition-linked skill tests.
Transgenics refers to inserting genes that originate from either non-metahuman species or de novo designs. These can lead to major metabolic or phenotypic alteration. Trangenics encompasses all treatments by which non-metahuman genes and traits are spliced into the recipient’s genome.
Enhanced Protein Exchange
Exchanging the genes of key proteins for optimized versions can alter bodily functions with an adjuvant effect. Similarly, specially designed synthetic proteins can be added to the subject’s genome to optimize the efficiency of various processes.
It's a genetic treatment. Specifically, it's a type of enhanced protein exchange. Crumpled has a high enough Biotech skill that he may know and understand what this means, even without the precise knowledge skills.Guess my question was, where do I put this on his char sheet? :)QuoteTransgenics refers to inserting genes that originate from either non-metahuman species or de novo designs. Ohanzee will be using levitate on it. Not exactly less conspicuous, but at least easier.
I was contemplating using one of the commlinks we procured from the hunters or soldiers as an upgrade for my Renraku Sensei and it got me thinking about the rules on ownership. It takes at least an hour to illegally change ownership (assuming you roll awesome and get 24 hits on your first roll, assuming you can even ROLL that many dice). Which means Crumpled, with his 13 dice, would need about 6 hours on average to change ownership on the deck he liberated. I doubt he had that kind of time. So should it be suspect, or are we using different rules for illegally changing owners?
I accounted for time when I wrote that part and used the normal hardware rules. Hmm...Probably should have mentioned how that worked in my PMs to Tecumseh. Thanks for letting Tecumseh keep this alive, and thank you for giving this beautiful baby a life. And it's awesome that you are still keeping tabs on it for situations like this.
@Tecumseh: what's the noise level now? I want to start looking at what kinds of devices are active in houses looking for one that's unoccupied. On this subject, with 3 Datajacks the 3 noise from before should have been completely negated, unless that was what was left over after the NR from the Datajacks was taken into account. Or if we are playing by rules where the bonus from multiple Jacks doesn't stack. I wasn't clear on that.
That said, you can cast the spell from the privacy of the Rover so that your Centering is not causing a fuss outside where people can see you. Was Ohanzee's Centering method identified? I presume it is singing/chanting/dancing, but a quick search of the Chapter I threads didn't turn anything up.I included the Centering in case I couldn't be available for the roll so things weren't held up. But it doesn't really matter for this one as yes, he could do it in the rover before exiting.
So, first thing, make sure external surveillance in the neighborhood is taken care of so we can't be tracked easily. Second, crack the car so you can command it to commit suicide.
@8-Bit: Chino's Perception skill is 4. You have low-light vision and there's enough ambient light that there's no environmental modifier for that. The snow and wind would affect shooting but the storm isn't heavy enough at this point to block your vision of the immediate area. You can add the +3 from actively looking for something.
@Poindexter
- Let me know what you have planned for the Rover. You have lots of toys.
Ace sees snow. Lots of snow. Thermographically, the snow is cold. There's some trees out there too, he's pretty sure.
You can have 3 extra dice for the "actively looking" bonus.
Ok, before i can decide how much explosive to use, i need to know how much dmg this rover can take.
What sorta roll is that?
For a car bomb to be effective, it needs to be able to destroy the body of the vehicle in which it is hidden (typically the trunk, on/near the engine block, or planted on the undercarriage) and still have enough power to cause damage to the surrounding area. Review the Vehicle Damage Threshold table for the type of vehicle being used. The Damage Value given is the average DV necessary to destroy a standard vehicle using an explosive device.
WOAH! Nice post 8-bit! (Really, Hack? I like Doc better ;) )
And, ideally, without exposing our faces to anyone, including lobby cameras. Disguises would be useful.

(still not sure how looking for specific things in the matrix works. If I'm reading this correctly, I can see everything that's not running silent automatically within 100m, and then I get to ask questions for every hit I get on a search? Either way, here's mine and the agents searchs:

@8-bit
The original message which told Novocrane that Chino has 3 Edge was a typo. Chino actually has Edge 4.
When you check the deck, you see you have every common use and hacking program, as well as a Rating 6 agent.
I'm just now leaving work. I'll try to do the hacking rolling later tonight once I'm home.
@Zweiblumen: While he's busy hacking the security of the van and the house, memories flood back into Doc's mind about normal security protocols. Doc remembers that he has the knowledge skill Matrix Security 4.
<<<@Blue Team [Doc] I second the trust but verify stance. Also, I've got feeds on everyone and can keep an eye out that way.>>>

Intiution 3 + Asesnsing 2 = OH HOLY GOD FIVE 6s ON FIVE DICE!!! (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4728717/)Also, HOLY CRAP!!!
@Poindexter: Be careful with the sub-vocal communications. Only Chino has earbuds, so technically the rest of the team wouldn't be able to hear Sam.
Shouldnt anyone with soundlink or a DNI be able to hear as well?
As Doc had seen, there's a snowmobile and an ATV, plus a good deal of gardening equipment and a tool set. All of the tools look brand new.Gardening tools or mechanical tools? Are they the kind of things Doc is familiar with?
Next person to roll something less probable than 1 in 7,770 triggers the next wave of dubious upgrades!
Behind her mask, Katsina weeps softly at her input being utterly ignored by Ace. I guess that's Charisma 3 catching up with her.
For the record, the best dice roll I've seen personally was 13 hits on 16 dice.
The Pioneer 60 is a sniper rifle, right? Hollow points seem like an odd choice, and you need a shotgun to fire flechettes. Unless this is a mix up, methinks there be another firearm, or two, in the house. Either way is good for me; with some pillows as suppressors, we can make it look like the teenagers had some target practice with Mr. Moran's expensive collection of antique vases from the Qing dynasty -- surely no group of shadowrunners would be that stupid.
Anything can fire Flechettes, shotguns just use different rules and choke settings.
I didn't know that. Always thought of flechettes only as shotgun rounds. Thanks.
I feel like sooner or later, I'm gonna need to take a more active roll in things. But then, on the other hand, with such a large cast of characters, maybe its best if one or two of us kinda play the rear and let the others shine, y'know?

Sam can't carry a snowmobile?
Poindexter, I'm not sure there are canon rules for placing traps. Survival might cover snares and the like but Sam's smart enough (metatype max for troll!) that he can rig up some impromptu booby traps. Provided that you're not planning anything overly elaborate, let's call it a simple Logic+Demolitions test and leave the rest to roleplay. Give me an idea of what you're planning - "I want to rig one of my flashbangs to go off if someone comes in the front door" - and we'll go from there. Let's call it three entrances (front door, back door, garage) and tons of windows (probably more than you have the equipment to deal with). I might recommend setting the traps after you return from the Rover run.
If my creative license conflicts with any pre-established canon regarding our pre-amnesia selves, it's a dream. It might be 100% true, or it might be tainted by whatever caused the amnesia. We won't know until we know.
Grenades and similar explosives can also be
rigged with a tripwire to set up as a basic booby-trap.
This requires an Extended Demolitions + Logic [Mental]
(8, 1 Complex Action) Test.
Poindexter, here's a rule we can use. I found it hidden under Grenades on p. 435 of SR5.QuoteGrenades and similar explosives can also be
rigged with a tripwire to set up as a basic booby-trap.
This requires an Extended Demolitions + Logic [Mental]
(8, 1 Complex Action) Test.
Your other demolitions materiel can qualify as "similar explosives" if you would prefer to use that instead of your 'nades.

Even if it could be tamped, the wisdom of triggering a 20P explosion in the house is debatable.Well, at the doors and directed outwards, this wouldn't be a problem. But, the requiring of 5kg to do is the deal killer. :(
OK, i gotta admit, I'm rather stymied by all of this explosives stuff. I feel sorta like when you play someone elses game of minecraft and you get the basics of the game, but you don't know what all their mods do, y'know? If there's anyone in the group that gets this stuff and wouldnt mind giving me a crash course in explosives 101, or a link to a quick and easy guide of the basics, that would be AWESOME. i don't wanna hold the game up over this any more than i feel like i already have been.

Slight correction of my last roll. Per Ryo's house rules, the alchemy preparation should have resisted with Force 6 - Alchemy 5 = 1 die. That 1 die turned out to be a hit (http://orokos.com/roll/235818) (naturally, a hit when you don't want one), so the final Potency is 5, not 6.
Rooting allows an adept to become a nearly immovable object with a Simple Action. The power provides +1 to the adept’s Physical Limit for Knockdown (p. 194, SR5) only. It also provides a +1 dice pool modifier to any test resisting being knocked down, levitated, or otherwise being displaced against their will. The adept cannot move while the power is active, and she takes a –3 dice pool penalty to Dodge, Block or Parry tests while the power is active. The power can be canceled with a Free Action.
Ach! I have Shadow Spells, which doesn't seem to have been incorporated into Chummer 5 yet.
According to Chino's professional opinion, by which I mean Aeronautics Mechanic (3 hits (http://orokos.com/roll/235856)), the drone is fragged up the hoop and out the slot.
Next steps
- Sam, Chino, and Doc are free to comment further on the drone or to return to the house. Chino can also respond to Sam's comments (in his updated IC post),

I DID kinda drop a conversation bomb all stealth like that back there. 8 Bit might not have noticed it. :)
So, yeah. While Ohanzee's sleeping peacefully, I'm biting my nails wanting to provide input. So, I wrote more dreams.
Ohanzee can't stand not being in the limelight. But at least he's willing to share it.
Oh yeah, also we're supposed to try to post at least once a day, so 10 lines of "zzzzzzzzz" was the other option.
You're welcome. ;D
Though that's still on the table for tomorrow if he's still sleeping...
<<@Team [Uncle Sam] Sounds like a good plan.>>
<<@Team [Chino] Agreed. It will have to wait for tomorrow, I mean, later today. I don't think we can do anymore tonight.>>
If you guys turn it off, he's likely to get paranoid and actively try to listen in. If you are retconning, I'd like the opportunity to as well.
...
And this turned PvP pretty fast :( Sorry guys, I don't mean to be a jerk, but all of us are being super paranoid right now and I don't think it's out of character. Also, Doc actually just has more information to add to the conversation.
comm defense is Int+Firewall, right? If so, Sam has 9 dice to resist. If his is the link you decide to hack, I'll go ahead and make the roll in the interest of speed.

This action lets you intercept Matrix traffic sent to and from your target for as long as you have the target marked. You can listen to, view, or read this data live, or you can save it for later playback/viewing if you have something to store it on (your deck will do).
If we were tasked with destroying it, why did we bother taking it out of the facility? Why not just destroy it there?
If the bomb could have been assembled in less than an hour or so in a moving vehicle then maybe we made the decision to destroy it after liberating it.
If it somehow changed our minds in the facility and convinced us to take it rather than destroy it, why give us amnesia later when we were helping it?
Maybe it can only be destroyed at a particular location, which would explain why we took it and hadn't yet destroyed it as well as why it might fight back by wiping or memories. In which case we'd be well advised to find that place before destroying it.
Basically, unless these issues can be answered sufficiently, Ohanzee will likely advise not destroying it.
More technical details, do we regen a point of edge and I'm assuming all stun damage (as almost all of us get 8ish hours?). Any Physical? I think the first-aid and the magic healing can only be done once each right?

It's what I'm imagining the "presence" as. It has not been definitively identified yet.

I'm going to guess that I still don't see it.
CFD. From Splintered State I believe. Sadly, I don't have that book.
Aside from those, nanotech is mainstream to the point that it isn't specifically mentioned. You get some cyberware installed? Chances are nanites were part of the surgery.
At least that's my take on it.
It should be noted that all of the below is working from memory, as I am away from my books.
Away from my books at the moment, but I believe the "problem" with nanites started with the Sybil/CFD Virus. Basically, AI's and E-ghosts have figured out some way to copy themselves into a biological body; nanites tend to be their most effective carriers. It should be noted that nanites are not required to have CFD, but they help facilitate the infection and control process.
Usually, the process of CFD taking over a host completely erases their personality and will. Sometimes, a person will resist, in which case you get headcases. Headcases are usually not the picture of sanity, as they go between multiple personalities (their own, and whatever he CFD virus fragments into; I think I remember an NPC who once had 5 personalities); although FastJack actually could be considered a headcase, as he is stuck with the AI S.E.A.R.C.H. (Forget what the acronym is for, but I believe it used to be a military combat program) in his head.
CFD is not limited to biological forms. Since it uses nanites as its carriers, it can infect anything that uses nanites to construct and maintain. I know the AK-147 line, which was entirely nanofaxed, has become obsolete, and I'm sure other things have happened as well. I don't think it's been a world-wide problem, because almost everything uses nanomanufacturing (from clothes, to guns, to cyberware, to a bajillion other things, they all use nanites) in 2075. That's the easiest way to mass-produce and make a profit on stuff. Still, it could be a problem.
Anyway, been on a plane all day, I'll check back in on the IC and probably make a post; sorry for my inactivity most of the day.
No luck. Do you want to Edge?I should. Ohanzee is pretty freaked out. I'll do in about 45 minutes when I have access to a proper computer.
When it's time to roll out, I vote we steal that sweet RV next door and use that. Will definite fit all of us and the artifact if we don't blow it up. A little conspicuous but who'd think to look for a bunch of shadow runners in an RV?
I'll get some matrix search/ repair/ medicine rolls up shortly.
I see the problem. Ohanzee misunderstood 'better part of a day'. Doc is gonna need 12-18 hours for his research.
Also, we have more then a day here most likely. Unless we screw up.
That made it look like Ohanzee wanted him in two places at once. Also, he can't rest to heal if he's out skulking around for a car, which peeves him off a bit.
"But Doc and I don't really have a role in that scenario. I think we could work well from the cabin anyway, so there may be little need for us to travel."
As for overwatch, the agent is actively doing that.
I'm fairly new also, but as far as I know, powered off devices are not on the Matrix. Am I wrong about this?
You can grid hop in order to negate that penalty - in Aspen, it is unlikely that any vehicles will be on the public grid since anyone that can afford to come here can afford a lifestyle that provides them better Matrix access.
I'm fairly new also, but as far as I know, powered off devices are not on the Matrix. Am I wrong about this?
i think you are right.
It might not be too conspicuous to have Ace and Katsina use the jet ski to get around town - this is a vacation spot after all.
So these are the concequences as I see them for stealing a car and bringing it to the garage as I see it. Please lemme know if any of these interpretations of the way things work are wrong.
1) I burn at least 1 edge in driving it here
2) We leave very large physcial markers that we are here (the snow tracks)
3) We leave a trace in Grid Guide that we are here
4) if I try to hack grid guide and succeed, we are good to go.
4b) if I fail, I'll probably be out of commision and bringing the heat down on me.
Mal, tell me what to roll, and I'll roll it.
Anyone have any idea how I'd know if a car would be missed or not?
@Poindexter, at 3:05pm Sam's comm is going to chime with a calendar event: "Write to Mom". You may wish to review the IC messages that you found in Chapter 1 (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=17834.msg314666#msg314666).
Poindexter, I'll get to your PM today.
The Concealment power could be counterproductive for Ace and Katsina while they're in town. It's a good way for them to get run over in a crosswalk. ("I'm so sorry, officer! I didn't see them!")If they would request that they not be concealed, Ohanzee can summon a lesser spirit. That would net the spirit one less hit and Ohanzee would not have to Edge reroll the drain resist. Much of the IC conversation would have to be rewritten. Shall I go that route?
Ace and Katsina can provide input on a suitable car for Doc to hack when they go into town.Again, this is a throw away vehicle. Doc could just as easily hack into the camera feed at the ski lift entrance (or wherever the cars drop their passengers off). Once a suitable car (large enough to feasibly hold 6 metas and a large artifact) drops its passengers off and heads off to park itself, he can grab it the moment it is out of view of the owners, then redirect it to Carbondale using Grid Guide. Once it gets there, take manual control and crash it in the outskirts of town (unobserved - loop more cameras?) so that it immediately reports the incident to the owner, speeding up the discovery process. A minor impact would be best so that it isn't suspicious that a car-full of metas walked away form the collision.
ETA2: On further reflection, not having it detect that it has taken on passengers might be more effective since the investigators would assume that the thieves were covering their tracks. The less evidence there is, the more competent it might appear the perpetrators were, rather than leading the authorities to believe it was never occupied. Probably a balance will need to be struck - if there is NOTHING to indicate it was occupied, it might arouse suspicion. Hence the "entry" and "exit" in secluded areas. But we start to tread into the over-thinking it at this point - I think our intent is clear, so we should let the die roll determine how well we did with the details.
Doc could hack into a camera feed at a ski resort parking lot but this is not trivial. It requires hacking the host to which the camera is slaved and then snooping the feeds. All of this adds opportunities to fail and Overwatch Score. It is certainly an option but it's not a freebie. The final approach is ultimately Zweiblumen's choice.Good point. There may be other easier to hack cameras that would provide the same information, but it sounds like having Ace and Kat identify a suitable candidate is just simpler all around.
Katsina would likely request that the concealment not cover her and Ace (and Chino, depending).I'm feeling too lazy to rewrite the post, so we'll keep it at Force 7 - it is merely coincidence that my decision makes sense from a metagaming standpoint as well, but I'll take it.
However, if you wish to reduce the force of the spirit then we'll need to roll to determine which dice of the Spirit resist roll are dropped. This is to prevent OOC knowledge (and metagaming) of which dice are discarded - hits or misses - especially since we already know that this is important for Ohanzee's drain soak and use of Edge. So if you reduce it to Force 6 then we'll roll 1 die, if you reduced to Force 5 then we'll roll 2 dice, and then subtract those (hits or misses) from the Spirit resist, then calculate the drain with your existing rolls (using the Edge reroll if necessary and discarding it if it unnecessary).
Do note that lowering the Force will also reduce the effectiveness of the Concealment power.
Certified credstick: Cash for the late 21st century. A certified credstick is not registered to any specific person— the electronic funds encoded on it belong to the holder, requiring no special ID or authorization to use. The bad news is that you can be physically mugged, any money you have on your credstick jacked and rolled. The good news is that certified credsticks are completely untraceable. They’re not even wireless—you have to slot them into a universal data connector to transfer cash onto or off of them. This makes them enduringly popular with shadowrunners and the Mr. Johnsons who love to hire them.
Deferring to Tec's ruling on the cred stick, but I'd think that you could transfer money to accounts via your comm, but not to another comm. you'd be able to transfer to another stick locally, or from acct to acct wirelessly, but not stick to stick wirelessly.
Correct me if im wrong, but Sam has no credstick on him and no money in any account he can find?
if there's something you're interested in buying I will roll a figure for you.
Deferring to Tec's ruling on the cred stick, but I'd think that you could transfer money to accounts via your comm, but not to another comm. you'd be able to transfer to another stick locally, or from acct to acct wirelessly, but not stick to stick wirelessly.
I wasn't suggesting that money would be transferred from stick-to-stick wirelessly. Rather, that it would go stick1>comm1>comm2>stick2, with the wireless communication taking place between the two commlinks. The money would be loaded onto the commlinks as an intermediary step, not transferred wirelessly directly between the two sticks.
As you plug your commlink into DNI and check the contents, you quickly notice that you have no SIN. You suspect this is a burner, as there are no contacts or accounts or anything on it. You see a lot of phone calls to and from the device, but the recipients are just commcodes without names attached.
@rednblack
The goons outnumber you and they are physically imposing themselves so that costs you 4 dice. Remarkably that only costs you 1 hit so you're still left with 4. Nice rolling.
Charisma 3 + Willpower 2 + Liquid Courage 2 = 7 dice = 2 hits (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4741528/)
@Zweiblumen - the decoy car was supposed to be done earlier rather than later, but better late than never. Ace and Katsina are supposed to find you a candidate while they are in town. But yes, Ohanzee does still want that done.
I'm assuming that the balaclava is roughly equivalent to a standard helmet cost and availability wise? I don't remember seeing anything like that listed in the role books for 5th so Tecumseh will have to make that call.
Lastly, according to the information in the rule book, all RFID tags have enough storage for "one or more files, but not much else".
@8-bit - I have 11 dice to roll vs the availability of 12 for that mask and Tecumseh has been rolling like a champ. I can't do an IC until tomorrow, so let me know if you want to go big or go safe (anything rating 6 or below Tecumseh will let me have without a roll).
Sam has ¥2,960. He has a Middle lifestyle, somewhere.
@8-bit, barring a glitch or a critical glitch, there's no harm in rolling for a higher Availability item. The only potential drawback is if the modifications increase the price beyond ¥1,000 then the delivery time will be extended from one day to two. But PCC does offer some good deals on electronics, so that helps keep the price down.
Zed's is the name of the dive bar where APB was seen with this guy. It's not this guy's name, but we can refer to him as Zed if it makes things easier. He confronts Ace and Katsina around 3pm.
I can't IC post for a while but when she goes astral Katsina will find Zed and Ze Orks outside waiting to jump Ace when he comes out. It's unclear which car is his, although hacking his commlink might work if he has a car slaved to it.
Ok, modified list of stuff to buy. Can we assume this is all known as a shopping list without having to do weird space time breaks?
Ballistic Mask -- Availability 6; 970 nuyen cost.
- Biomonitor
- Gas Mask
- Trodes
- Insulation 1
I really need something better looking to wear, but they are all expensive and (I have the feeling) don't fit it that well with the Aspen crowd. They probably wear 20,000 nuyen suits as "comfort" clothes.
I'd rather not have Doc hack the commlink or the car until it's parked and away from the owner. That way, "Zed" might think it was Ace who nicked it, and that's what I'm going for here. Of course, that doesn't jive with the "hack a car that won't be missed for awhile" plan, but it does provide some other possible incentives, and as Vincent says, "adapt, I Ching" etc. That works, just send a message to the team IC. If you can point out the goons, he should be able to crack his 'link and find the car that way. Once he's found the car, we can stage it so it looks like you nabbed it.
I was under the impression that Ace and Kat would be buying outfits for everyone. At the very least we should be able to do 500 ny suits and have Kat make the necessary alterations to make them look pretty damned good if we have the time.
I was under the impression that Ace and Kat would be buying outfits for everyone. At the very least we should be able to do 500 ny suits and have Kat make the necessary alterations to make them look pretty damned good if we have the time.
This works for me
@Tecumseh/Zweiblumen - I'm sorry. I didn't mean it ... Malevolently. (Ba-Dum-Crash!) Just for clarification, though, if the player assigns specific times to an action, the order is still doesn't matter? That was where my confusion came in - he submitted his report IC at around midnight, and then at that point asked if the car was still necessary. But if it's okay to retcon that so that the car heist happens earlier in the day, then we're all good (and really, it's okay even if it takes place at Midnight - so long as it happens before we are discovered in Aspen, it should serve its purpose).
He looks at his local time readout and sees that it's 19:34 already. He writes up his findings and sends it to the team.
<<<@Team [Doc] There is nothing out in the open that I can find about this artifact. That data is really well hidden and/or being actively hunted/erased. I'm hoop deep in data with none of it specific to our target. However Dr. Winters is another story. If we can find where she was doing her latest research I'm sure I can get her notes. Have we found any more info on her residence or office?>>>
<<<@Ohanzee [Doc] You still want a car sent to another city? I can just grab one from a parking lot at random and get it to set off some alarms once it gets there.>>>
@Zweiblumen/8-bit/Tecumseh - I left the IC vague as to what was ordered so I wouldn't have to update it as the shopping list changes. But Ohanzee will make arrangements for the two items requested.
@Zweiblumen - re: Secure RFID, I might have Doc lock the file, but wireless off and physically hidden should provide some decent operational security. As far as locking the file, I assume that we could use biometric access tied to one or more of the team. The chip may not have the biometric reader built in, but so long as one of us has one, I'm assuming the file itself could be protected with biometrics. Again, this is a rules grey area I think, so it's up to Tecumseh. Speaking of which, does anyone have a biometric reader already? If not, the file lock isn't important enough to purchase one for.

@rednblack, this is not the approach I was expecting but it should be fun to write.
Presuming Ace uses his wireless bonus he gets another 6 dice for sprinting due to his hydraulic jacks. 6 extra dice = 1 extra hit (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4742842/). Sorry I couldn't come up with all sixes like I did for Chino.
AGI 9 * 2 for running = 18 meters/turn
+
4 sprinting hits * 2m/hit = 8 meters/turn
=
26 meters per turn = 8.67 meters/second = 31.2 kph = 19.4 mph.
A little slow, actually, due to my nerfing movement rates. But it was either that or go with the base rules, which would have Ace running at 27mph without sprinting. Who knows, maybe that would have been more a realistic representation for his bionic legs.
Shopping
@8-bit, not problem getting an order in for a ballistic mask. Good news: the biomonitor and the trodes are 20% off because of PCC's leading position in the electronics industry. Final cost is ¥900 instead of ¥970. Mask will be ready tomorrow.
The assumption was the Ace and Katsina were buying street clothes for everyone. I was thinking ¥200/each for casual walk-around clothes. You can spend ¥500 if you want to look better (an okay suit, or designer jeans and a nice sweater). I had ¥1,200 budgeted for this but let me know if you want to spend more. Katsina and Ace have found their clothing and could technically return their purchases.
@8-bit, wearing an Urban Explorer Jumpsuit under clothing is fine if it's something baggy like a jacket and maybe some ski pants, but it's going to look very bulky under non-winter (or indoor) clothing.
Holy hell the things I have to write for this game sometimes.
They will give chase if Ace lures them on, but if Ace keeps running at 20mph then they're going to give up quickly, especially if he heads straight for the central business district.
Another busy day at work today. If all goes well, tomorrow and Friday should be much quieter.
A ruby haze of anger and cuckoldry descends over their eyes as they charge after him.
@Mal: Your IC post says, "He relays his thoughts to the team". Is Ohanzee sharing details of his thinking or just the fact that he's had an epiphany? I'm trying to figure out how much Katsina can respond to.Sorry, it was my shorthand so I didn't have to retype his whole thought process. Assume anything that happened in the astral and in his head up to that point in the post is IC knowledge for the team, at least in broad strokes.
Tests, if I'm understanding them correctly:1. Yes, basically, but this might qualify as an extended test as he intends to spend at least a few minutes, perhaps as much as an hour, examining it.
1. Assensing - you can assense the artifact with a normal roll
2. Touching - you can roll Perception (Touch) if you want
3. Spellcasting - you can cast Mind Net if that is your intent
Very nice job on the shopping list. We can retcon the physical credsticks but not the cred transfers because Katsina doesn't have enough to cover the clothes shopping prior to Ace finding his credstick. (And said credstick isn't public knowledge yet.)I did not account for the cost of clothing at the time. I had 680¥ on my credstick and expected to spend at leat 600¥ of it, so I have no problem giving them the whole thing, but my contribution towards clothing and party shared items will be minor at best. So he would have declined clothing if it wasn't being covered. The discovery of Ace's credstick might change that if Ace is being generous, but the plan really is still for Ohanzee to not leave the house unless fecal matter meets fan, so while a change of clothes would be nice, I don't think it is mission critical for him.
Medkits were on the shopping list too, or resupplies for the current medkits. If the team wants a new medkit then we'll have to pick a rating.Updating now.
As people hear Ohanzee's suggestion to purchase an MCT Fly-Spy, everyone realizes that they have Pilot Aircraft 0.Bleah and double bleah. It could still be useful for things besides Gloria's body and it has a pilot of 3 for 6 dice on its own, so as long as we don't make it do anything tricky, we should be good. But that's up to the folks that have money.
Good news: Fly-Spies (or a locally produced competitor) and other non-restricted drones are 20% off due to PCC's position as a market leader in tech and electronics.
Bad news: A Fly-Spy does not have the range to fly 50km round-trip through the mountains in winter weather conditions. Even if it did, the Noise and Static Zone modifiers would be off the charts (10+).
@Zweiblumen: Go ahead and continue your hack. Getting slapped with a mark doesn't seem to be earning you any extra attention. Perhaps the commlink owner is otherwise engaged at the moment.

We've gone over the limited information we have and have come to the conclusion that we ship guns to whoever this "mom" is. We also noticed it's odd that her last message is 5 minutes later than her previous messages. Beyond that, we got nothing.

Basically, what Pointdexter said.
I mean, we think we've deciphered the first message from "Frank" (Uncle Sam) to Mom, and maybe half of the first reply from Mom. I mean, we have some ideas, but there's really nothing to match it to for verification on which interpretation is correct. So, 1/6 messages deciphered; new record!

Just clarifying - I know you are on a phone and I typed a BUNCH of stuff so no sweat missing it, but just wanted to let you know in case you want to change that IC.
Not to ruin what might be a potentially interesting misunderstanding, but I don't remember where the "with input from the Awakened characters" concept came from ICly. I think there might be some confusion around phrasing. I think what he meant was "without the rest of the team knowing about it (i.e. not in secret)" rather than "with the help and the expertise of the team".

you are correct in your assumption.
I have another question or two - was the bomb specifically tailored to the artifact or just the crate that the artifact was in? Was there any evidence that we may have opened the crate previous to our loss of memory?
The Masked Woman turns her astral perception towards the dwarf as he trudges out into the snow, seeing the vibrancy in his aura and recognizing it as Awakened immediately. She sees he has Essence 6, Magic 6, and is completely unaugmented. He has a Force 2 Power Focus bound to him, which he wears around his neck. He's in fairly strong health, and his emotional state is fearful, and worried. She notices he has an astral signature on him from a health spell that has been fading for a few hours, and sees it is his own. She also sees an astral signature from a high force manipulation spell, also having had several hours to start fading away. This astral signature she recognizes as her own.

no.
What's our ammo situation? If anyone wants any non-APDS speak now and Ace is buying.

What is ammunition? Chino has no guns :)
Not sure whether that's bad or just not good?
Get him a gun anyways. The guy he's pointing it at doesn't know how many dice he has. That's what Ohanzee's gun is for. I mean, he has a few more dice for it, but I can't see him being all that effective with it. Of course, if he does hit, it'll sting some.
Getting spotted astrally gives your physical location? I thought that the mage had to actually know where his/her body was to get back to it, thus the problem of getting 'pranked' by their 'friends' when they move his/her body on them.
As for vehicles, lets steal the RV and just move on. It's a shame we didn't get to actually rest.
And I can't spoof anything to get the device to invite marks right? I have to be the owner for that, which will take me several hours even using a bunch of edge. If we want the RV badly enough, could I burn a point of edge for "Smackdown" on this? The rules on page 57 don't say anything about extended tests, just actions. I'm kinda loathe to burn edge, but if it's the best thing to do I can. I'd love input.
If I get a mark on the device or host, I'll get a mark on the owner. Then I'd be able to, but from what I've read there's debate about wether the device can invite marks or if only the owner can.
Actually, the Detect Enemies spell is Touch targeted, so it could be placed on any one of us. Ace, being the stealthy, fast type, might be ideal as he could scout on foot, quickly in low traffic areas, providing the best option. He might get a different set of pings as Katsina did, and perhaps wildly different than anyone from Blue Team, but hopefully our most dangerous pursuers are looking for all of us.

Well, i can arm the timer on the big bomb, clack it onto the obelisk, and we can make the whole city go boom if ya want...
I'm working off the assumption in my last IC post that Ace wouldn't be able to see the Wolf spirit. Is that correct? He is. But he could be anywhere in the house. I just put him in a position where he could keep a watchful eye on things, Tecumseh put him near the entrance to the kitchen. While he started off laying down pretending to doze, there is no reason his agitation couldn't get the best of him and he could start a proper patrol. And, there's no reason he needs to remain materialized other than saving a complex action when some soft (non astral) targets show up. Of course, not being materialized (https://developer.android.com/design/material/index.html) when those "soft targets" have heavy weapons might also be an advantage, so again, whatever fits the narrative.
I hope no one minds me discussing this OOC here first. It'll be a part of IC once we have a consensus on action, but I figure this sort of detail work makes for boring and onerous IC, so...
Don't forget to chime in on the RV and the elderly couple next door too. Katsina would prefer not to kill them but won't put up a huge degree of resistance if that is the will of the group. If that happens, she would volunteer to do it to ensure that things are done humanely.
@rednblack
I was thinking that Wolf had materialized in the kitchen because I liked the mental image of a beast spirit chilling out in the middle of the action. I would say that everyone can see Wolf, but if Ohanzee wants Wolf to rest up on the astral than it's his call.
As for the lamb, I made a Morrocan tagine. I've always liked sweet/salty or sweet/savory combinations. The recipe includes dates and pomegranate seeds in addition to plenty of spice and garlic. This is the recipe:
http://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1015873-lamb-shank-tagine-with-dates
If you have any intentions of making it, let me know. I have made it twice now and can recommend improvements.
I don't understand why the people need to be killed. Can't we just grab the RV and go?
I don't understand why the people need to be killed. Can't we just grab the RV and go?
Not fond of the kidnapping idea as that is just HORRIBLY complicated, unless you mind wipe them, anyone happen to have some laésal wine handy?
If we had time, someone going over and getting them completely knackered so they passed out in a blurry haze would work, but we don't have that kind of time.
Do they use license plates anymore? I would have thought they'd use wireless IDs (ownership ids), and like a SIN, walking around without announcing it would be cause for suspicion. We'd need to run the risk having it on until we got clear of town, then run it wirelessly until we got someplace we could take it off the road and re-owner-ize (new word!) it.
That said, the more I think about it, the more murdering the old folks seems like the safest play... assuming it's done without leaving a trail.
Still, I think Doc would prefer liberating it to killing the old folks. But he's logical and won't put up much of a fuss about killing them.
@rednblack, I will PM you with recipe tips tonight. If anyone else wants them, let me know.
Ohanzee has Control Thoughts, but that has its own consequences. Brain fragging is still a major no-no.
8-bit is correct. They still do use license plates. I was wondering that myself but then I read an explicit reference to them just a day or two ago. I think it was in Stolen Souls, in the long section about extractions. Presumably there are lots of RFID tags too.

There's also a morphing license plate you can buy for your wheel man chars. I'm not sure what book that is in, except that it's one I don't have yet
And thank you.
So, cheese - Control Thoughts the owner of the RV (gotta figure which one it is), command them to transfer ownership of the RV to Chino. Knock them out (sleeping pills?) before the spell wears off. Clean up all evidence of magic (a few combat turns) and drive off in our new RV. They should be out for a few hours before they can wake up and wonder what happened.
This gets into the weeds with ownership. Even though they "voluntarily" transferred ownership, presumably there is still a paper trail leading to Chino (or a false ID that he doesn't have) and probably some sort of unique ID for the RV (besides its license plate) that would make it traceable. In other words, short of making them disappear (killing/kidnapping/tying up) once they report it stolen it can be traced if online, even if we have transferred ownership.
Unless we do it non-legitimately. My assumption about the hours long process (as opposed to the couple second action) to transfer ownership is that you clean the item of any identifying information that can be linked to its previous owner - serial numbers, paper trails, etc - and give it counterfeit ones that are just as good as real ones.
If we do a legitimate transfer of ownership (by Puppeteer or Spoof Command or mind control/coercion) then it can still be reported stolen and tracked. If we do it the illegal (and thus riskier) way, then it is ours free and clear with no discernible connection to its prior owners.
But that's how I interpret the rules. If compelling the device to legitimately change owners provides us with a clean device, then my cheese above could be the plan. Otherwise, like Zweiblumen, we need them unconscious for a few hours so that we can get out of Aspen and park somewhere "safe" and spend the time to take ownership.
Or dead. Per IC thoughts, Ohanzee would be opposed to this unless no other option was available. What kind of stuff does our "host" have in his medicine cabinet - or could we juryrig something from our medkit supplies? It seems simple sleeping pills should be fairly easy to come by.
Even that is risky. No idea if the sleeping pills will overdose them, or if they have medical conditions, etc. Anything we juryrig is unlikely to be medical standard, so we have no idea what effects it might have. Definitely less messy though.

This makes me think we should control em, pill em, and change the ownership as fast as we can while we drive.
If the plan is to destroy the cabin - especially in an explosive fashion - then Katsina would point out that the emergency responders might try to evacuate the neighboring homes. If the firemen and paramedics find an older couple doped out of their minds it is going to look suspicious.

even if we made it look like smoke inhalation was the culprit behind said doping?

Easier said than done. We are starting to get into multi hour prep times to do this.
A hacker can’t hack into your bone lacing and break your bones, but a hacker can tell your bone lacing that your bones are broken, causing your bone lacing to tell your commlink to call DocWagon, or tell your medkit that you need painkillers.
@rednblack, the house is not run on propane. The city (and the house) is powered by a combination of geothermal wells combined with solar thermal panels designed to take advantage of Aspen's 250 days of sun each year.
That said, Katsina would point out that destroying the spirits doesn't take address the root problem, as the summoners will presumably just summon more. KOing the current spirits might set back the search a few minutes, but the summoners already have Ohanzee's signature from their spirits (via the spirit-summoner link) so newly summoned spirits could resume the search.Ah. I was under the impression that the spirit-summoner link was limited to communication that could be relayed verbally. The part about not allowing "any other visual or audio connection" made me think that images (including astral) were out of the picture. But I guess it could also be read as "no real-time streaming of audio/video" from the summoner to the spirit (or vice versa).
Which brings up an interesting question - can spirits "hear"? Astral perception is the only perception they have. Light and sound have no natural analog in the astral (spirits can't see colors in the material world and so can't read signs of computer displays), so would a spirit be able to listen in on a conversation in meat space?
[Street Magic pg 114: Other Senses]
Characters may converse and be heard in astral space, and language
is still a communication barrier there, but an assensing
character will be struck more by the emotive content rather
than by the words themselves. It is also possible to eavesdrop
on the noises, communications, and even smells of the physical
world from the astral plane, but just like reading a physical
book, the assensing character will perceive the emotional tone
and impressions rather than the physical sensation.
The spirit-summoner link allows the summoner to see/hear/feel everything that the spirit does, although these senses cannot be transferred or conveyed via electronic means. (I suppose a summoner with a bunch of headware could be an interesting exception, but that would be an outlier.)
> CAST translations can produce some funky results. I test drove a biodrone dog the other day, and the range of smells those buggers have is so large it gets translated into translucent color fields for easier metahuman processing.
> Rigger X
> There are limitations to the system. Higher-order brains make CAST translation incrementally harder if not impossible, since complex neural structures link a lot of subconscious processing and memory associations with sensory stimuli. For example, applying CAST to a shark is fairly simple. Even though there are a multitude of highly-developed senses, the brain that processes the perceptions is very simple, and thus it is not hard to translate the total perception into a signal. Same for reptiles, birds, small mammals, and bugs.
> The Smiling Bandit
> And what about paracritters? I don’t want to think about a rigged hellhound with astral sight.
> Jimmy No
> That’s still far ahead of the curve. Astral perception and similar abilities have yet to be linked to a specific part of the brain. There are people working on it, no doubt, but any biodrone with this capacity would be a fluke and almost priceless.

Can we make Hardware tests to see if detonating the Electric stove would be able to blow up anything else to blow up the house? Or would that be Demolitions?
When materialized, the spirit uses astral perception (its only perception) to perceive the physical world.
When materialized, the spirit is able to perceive the physical world much as other material beings do.
@8-bit and @rednblack: Demolitions is for things that explode. Setting the house on fire is easy and can be done in a variety of creative ways, many of which don't even require a test. The tricky part is making it look like an accident. Unless you don't care about making it look like an accident, figuring that you'll be long gone by then (and that any of the bloodthirsty teams pursuing you are a more pressing issue than any threat that a lingering arson investigation might pose).
Katsina would vote against explosives. While it might eliminate a few pursuers, she's going to guess that the powers that be are willing to throw people at this obelisk until they have it. Fourth World artifacts don't just turn up every day after all. Better to keep the arson as low-key as possible, in her opinion.
enough fire is
Since I'm batting 0 on figuring out a good way to bring the house down, can we do a teamwork test to see what might be the best plan of action here?
LOG + Hardware (see how to burn the house down) (http://orokos.com/roll/242007): 7d6t5 1
Katsina would question the value of luring the spirits into an ambush.
@Tec - How are you handling spell range? Is there a range penalty for spells, or is it "if you can see it, you can hit it"? The binoculars will give me better visual acuity, but I'm assuming that sniping with Fireball from over a mile away is too cheesy. Or sniping with Control Thoughts. Granted, it's not too OP as they will likely have mages enough to counterspell anyway, but if we do come up against an entirely mundane group of opponents, I just want to know what the limits are for ranged casting.
Also, when the conversation turns to smooth-talking your way into the neighbor's home, Ace remembers that he's a pretty good BS artist himself. Ace has Con 4.
I'd have to retcon my last post, but I'm fine with that too.
Another quick question on rules - the illusion spell is obvious in the Astral, but does it still obfuscate or cover objects within/behind it (similar to a mana barrier or any other Astral object) or is it completely pierced with no ill effect for the observer?
What's the loose plan here? Are you waiting for a certain opening before you act or are you wanting to converse with this fellow for a while?
@Zweiblumen, Doc has turned up everything he can find within the 1 minute threshold. He'll need to dedicate more time to it (30 minutes) to find out anything more.Figured as much on the search (man that was a bad roll). Thanks.
The devs have stated that a device needs to be online the entire time that ownership is being hacked. I think the idea was to make it almost impossible to hack ownership without getting unrealistically lucky on the 15-minute interval rolls for your Overwatch Score. However, as Zweiblumen points out, transferring ownership isn't even a matrix action. It requires Hardware and would not generate any OS on its own since it is neither an Attack nor a Sleaze action.
As a middle ground, let's say that hacking ownership does require a Matrix signal but does not incur OS.
@rednblack
Hitting it with a shock hand will likely disable it. Without hacking it, Ace wouldn't know at what exact point a call for help would be made. Hardware could also be used to manually disable it.
OOCly, I wrote a longer post to avoid a sentence-by-sentence back-and-forth of "the drone says this, do you want to act now? then the drone says this, do you want to act now?" If Ace would preemptively KO an autodoc upon its appearance, or at a certain point in its speech, then we can do that. Ace has the reflexes to intervene quickly.
Even with the drone KO'd, it'd be prudent to have Doc direct connect and check if the call has gone out, cancel it if it has, and hack the biomonitors to report everything normal. rednblack can put that in his IC or I can once the whole drone thing is resolved.
I had a whole plan involving Trid Phantasm and a call to the emergency dispatcher by Mr. Nately waving them off. In either case, he'll be outside to greet Doc and usher him in, and he and the Mrs. will be preforming a pre-journey inspection on the RV so that any neighbors watching think things are on the up and up.
Electronic equipment and drones can also be affected
by Electricity damage. They never suffer Stun damage
so Electricity damage is Physical when used against
electronics and drones.
Given we've moved on, I'm guessing we don't need/want me to repair the droid and check him or continue to hack the biomonitor or anything?
If not, I'd be down for working on medical cocktails to safely keep the Nately's sedated. We should have plenty of supplies with the medkit reloads we picked up.
Or I can start on stealing the RV, unless we don't want to do that now that we've kidnapped the Nately's.
There were rating 1 devices in the house, and Tec mentioned that you could use that to mark the host. Though with your roll, you could simply do it from the RV and kill two birds with one stone. We've left the house, so that ship sailed. I wasn't able to get anything done in the house before you guys left. I guess since I never IC'd leaving the house, I could stay behind and then come catch up to you guys. That said, the roll is pretty good, and I'm confident it would work from the RV just fine.
I'm guessing that control device would work for having the biomonitor report what you desire. I don't think they were slaved to the house, so you will have to hack them separately (which you would have to do anyway). I think you already rolled for Mrs. Nately's earlier. Control device might work? Dunno, I can see needing to constantly do that though. Just one "report a-ok" might work, but I don't know what to report to. Dunno what to do about subsequent reports either, which is why I was asking. I have indeed already hacked Mrs. Nately's but we haven't found Mr. Nately's yet.
Successfully getting a mark on the phone "unlocks" it, though you might need additional marks in order to access additional features. Ohanzee has no need for his phone, so you should just hold on to it - maybe dig through it for useful info. Not that I have much idea what you would look for. Where did you read about the mark "unlocks" and the list of features? I've not read any reference to any of this, but I've missed lots and lots that was right in front of my face, so just looking to learn here. And Doc would hand Ohanzee the phone to send the message unless he remembers he's got con/etiquette. Otherwise, a -1 on his 3 char isn't a very good die pool.
Since we aren't in combat, I'm thinking you could do whatever before we left the house. Basically we are largely doing our IC around the leaving of the houses, getting each character up to the point of boarding the RV ready to leave town.

I'm also of this impression, or I wouldn't have posted to move things along. Since Tecumseh didn't respond to this, can we please get some clarification, Tec?
Drones have two damage tracks, Physical and Matrix.
Fill up either one and it’s bye-bye birdie as the drone is
either irreparably destroyed and joins the spare parts
collections, or it gets bricked and it’s time to completely
rewire its guts. But up until that final box is filled, damage
done to a drone can be repaired.
Sigh, I hate myself sometimes.
Chino would have Assensed anyway, so that works for me. Completely missed that it could fit the snowmobile in. I'm thinking it wouldn't be worth it to retcon it, we can just take 2 ATVs? Assuming everyone else is okay with that.
In either instance, they would try to make a deal, but who knows whether they would play it straight or if they'd really just be buying time to get their assets in place to murderize the team.

Let's go ahead and do the second initiative phase. It's possible the others could intervene but it seems unlikely.

Hunters comms should be off. AFAIK no one is being protected by Doc except for Ohanzee and maybe Ace's. I can't remember. I'm pretty sure Chino and Sam cut me off after the stunt I pulled and Kat never gave me access.
As for the roof hatch, it depends on what your goal is. Ace would certainly have no trouble hopping up to do a pull-up, although how he'd support himself while shooting remains to be seen. He could stand on the roof but that creates additional risks.
@rednblack, you can roll Computer+Intuition for Matrix Perception to look for marks.
The commlinks from the hunters are off, yes.

Turning off wireless is a Free Action, but it is up to the GM how many of those you get per IP (usually one, and I don't see why this would be an exception).
Also, is Send Message a free action or a simple action?
Defending Mark (Will 5 + FW 6 = 11) (http://orokos.com/roll/245100): 11d6t5 3
Also, is Send Message a free action or a simple action?
Send Message is a Free Action if it is short (for example, a short sentence). This is using the Speak/Text/Transmit Phrase combat action from p. 164. If you're using DNI (datajack or trodes) and spend a Simple you can send up to a short paragraph. This is from the Send Message matrix action on p. 242.
I think you can add your VR bonus to defense. I've been playing it that way. If this is wrong, someone let me know, but I figure defending against a "matrix action" is a much of action as the initiating action itself.
Either way, mark defended.
Still working on that IC post.
I never really thought about it, but if you include the VR bonus, do you include noise/distance "bonuses" as well?
Minutemen, I fuckin' knew it. Not sure how Ace could have exploited it, but I knew the Natelys were some "X"reich motherfuckers. OOC, I'm worried that we stirred up some shit with some secret society types, but Ace won't be able to put that together unless he hears something about what the opposing icon looks like.
I'd like a round of posts from everyone of what the PCs are doing in anticipation of running into trouble. Also, your general location in the RV. Chino is driving although he does not need to be; he could program Katsina's route into GridGuide easily enough. The passenger seat is currently empty. In the RV, their are multiple places to sit or stand, including the kitchen/dining area, the bathroom, and the bedroom. These posts can be IC or OOC, but IC earns you participation credit!

Dunno if Doc would know the same things you do (I don't know the significance of the Minutemen reference). To not meta game (I know Tec said that it's almost impossible for Doc to meta, but it makes me feel like I'm cheating :P) he made a pretty straightforward yet still somewhat oblique reference to it in his report of what happened. He'll respond to any questions thrown his way.
Most jurisdictions restrict vehicle nodes from operating in hidden
mode (see p. 211, SR4) and additionally require vehicles to broadcast
their access ID, license plate, and sometimes their registration and
insurance information as well as the SIN and license data of the driver.
My IC is fine - his instructions to not engage were prior to all hell breaking loose, and with that happening, his caution to be prepared should they attack first now comes in to play. His IC takes place as soon as we picked them up as a tail, at which point we were still basically in town. I think they had the same idea we did - to get out of town and someplace private before engaging in hostilities. Their attack probably means that they feel we have now entered such a place.

Everyone firing from the RV will be subject to the "Attacker firing from a moving vehicle –2" penalty.
As for keeping your balance on the roof, it shouldn't be a problem unless Chino has to drive evasively or needs to make a challenging control test. Under those circumstances it will be a Gymnastics roll to stay in one place (with a threshold dependent on the situation), although this could change to a brute Strength test if Ace does something like anchor himself with his cyberspur.
I generally prefer a black trenchcoat game but I can already tell that we're going to have the RV up on two wheels with Ace clinging to the side while dangling over the gulch and returning laser fire to a rotodrone that's hosing everyone down on full auto.I prefer black trenchcoat generally as well, but that sounds pretty damn awesome.

Ford-Canada Buffalo (RV)
While an RV is too conspicuous in most cities, in the wilderness
it is the perfect mobile headquarters for both shadowrunners
and corp security teams. With off -road capabilities and sleeping
arrangements for six, it may not be able to go cross country, but it
can easily manage the network of old abandoned roads that crisscross
all but the most remote of areas. Because there are enough
others out on the road (or off it, as the case may be), it doesn’t
raise too much suspicion unless it is somewhere it clearly does
not belong.

Getting Ace to the roof is easy. Between his hydraulic jacks and his cyberstrength, it should be trivial. Ace's base pool is Agility 9 + Athletics skill group 2 + Hydraulic Jacks 6 = 17. He only really needs two hits to get his hands on the ledge and do a pull-up (or zero if he's standing on an oven), but it's entirely possible for him to get six hits and just land on the roof on his feet.
You're only supposed to be able to vertically leap 1.5x your height but I would rule that with hydraulic jacks only your Physical limit holds you back. And with a +6 limit from the jacks, that means Ace's limit would be 13, or 6.5m, or 21 feet. Hops!
@Zweiblumen
Correct. In addition to the seven devices you listed, the following devices are NOT running silently:
8. Tata Hotspur
9. GMC Bulldog
10. Rotodrone - this icon looks like a jumped-in rigger
11. a persona not running silently in the Bulldog
12. a new persona that just appeared that's probably an Agent
I'm guessing it would be relatively easy for Ace to jump onto the trailer once he was on the roof, so he could take cover behind a snowmobile or ATV?
I'm guessing it would be relatively easy for Ace to jump onto the trailer once he was on the roof, so he could take cover behind a snowmobile or ATV?
Yes, as long as Chino isn't taking evasive maneuvers this would be relatively straight-forward. Ace's hydraulic jacks mean that he can fall quite a distance without incurring any damage. Complications would include being riddled with bullets while getting into position.
I'm debating whether this sequence (jump, run across the roof, drop down) would be one or two IPs of movement.
@8-bit, welcome back.
Chino is very experienced with spirits and knows that there's a fire spirit in the RV. He doesn't see it in the rear view mirror because RVs only have mirrors on the sides, not the center, but he can hear it and feel the heat.
The sequence of actions sounds good. As for activating astral perception, were you planning on attacking the spirit with astral combat?
Pros: astral spirits are dodgy bastards and difficult to hit physically, punching fire spirits hurts like hell
Cons: can't do as much damage astrally as physically
Long OOC post coming.
@8-bit
Chino will need to spend a Free Action to activate Killing Hands to bypass the spirits' Immunity to Normal Weapons.
Or you could just not tell people that you're putting the RV on autopilot, and hope that they trust you enough not to drive the RV into Slaughterhouse Gulch.
The second man, an ork, uses his weapon on the spirit, a short three note staccato, and the bullets pass harmlessly through Wolf's ethereal form. Where they collide with the interior of the vehicle, small blooms of fire break out.
The bullets did hit Wolf and explode. Wolf just soaked all the damage.
@rednblack
The Lancer is a two-handed rifle. You can fire it with two hands with the cyberspur extended on the left hand, unless you want to fire it one-handed for cinematic purposes (although that does involve a -2 penalty, see above).
Lancers do not have smartlinks. Ares dropped the ball on that one.
Ace's shot, minus smartlink: 4 hits (http://orokos.com/roll/246577)
Spirit dodge: 6 hits (http://orokos.com/roll/246878), no luck
Can Ace parry with his cyber spurs if he has that hand bracing the weapon?
ETA: To clarifty, do you impose a penalty on all firearms SMG and larger, when not fired with 2 hands?
-3 firing from cover using an imaging device
-2 firing from a moving vehicle
-1 firing two-handed firearms with one hand (usually a -2 penalty but its only -1 for trolls)
+1 from smartlink
Agility 9 + Heavy Weapons 5 - 5 net modifiers = 9 dice
What type of grenade? Flashbang, frag, or thermal smoke.
@rednblack
Parrying an elemental with Energy Aura is a mixed proposition. While you can avoid the main damage component of the melee attack, you are still subject to the energy aura. DV = Force, AP = (negative) Force.
This isn't explicitly in the rules but it's a halfway point between what is in the rules (DV*2 for a successful melee attack against an elemental with energy aura - I'm looking at you 8-bit) and the fluff. Dodging is the safest bet.
@MalSorry, yes. I thought I'd mentioned it but it is not in any of my posts either IC or OOC. Whoops - that's all my fault. Character sheets reflect the change. Let me know if you want me to update an IC post - I'd have taken it as soon as they started following us, so he's probably a few minutes into it.
Your wound modifiers are -3 unless you took advantage of a medkit-stimpatch possibility that I mentioned, although I don't recall you saying so. That said, losing a die doesn't affect the outcome of your roll.
Spirit defense: 0 hits (http://orokos.com/roll/246996), Ohanzee connects!Holy. Wow. With a -2 to the spirit's dice pool, Ohanzee might very well have a chance. If he can turn his luck with the dice gods around...
We don't happen to know the type of spirits that Kat and I are fighting do we? The materialized are obviously fire, but I can't find the type for the remaining two.You don't know what kind of spirits are on the astral, no. Identifying them would require a Assensing test. That said, all spirits types are equal on the astral. Obviously Force differentiates them, but their astral attributes are the same. (Some spirit type have Intuition + 1 but I think this is a typo, as it is not reflected in their Initiative values nor in the fluff.)
Also, you said there were six people in the Bulldog. The driver, the mage, and three assailants have been identified so far. I'm guessing the sixth is the decker?
When crashing, a vehicle is treated as if it rammed itself, resisting with Body+Armor as normal. Half of the unresisted damage is applied to the passengers of the vehicle, resisted with Body+Armor -6 AP. If a passenger is not properly secured (wearing a safety belt/harness), then they must resist the full initial damage of the crash instead, and may be hurled from the vehicle (gamemaster discretion). This may result in further damage from impact with the terrain or other vehicles.
A preparation taking a single box of Physical damage will not make it lose its magic. This would render Disjoining obsolete, as you could disarm preparations without risking Drain just by smacking them. Instead, a sufficiently damaged preparation is immediately triggered.
Damage to a Preparation does not release the magic unless it is completely destroyed/ruined/scraped off the object. Alchemists shouldn't be at a constant risk of self destructing simply from putting their preparations in the same pocket as their car keys.
@8-bit
Cool, I finally made you learn your Charisma. Chino has Charisma 3. Doc's Charisma is the only attribute holdout (there are still some skills, spells, and qualities left to learn about), but will stay hidden for a while since Doc doesn't need to roll Composure.
Wound modifiers do apply to Attribute-only rolls, except for soaking damage and drain.
Sorry, I didn't intend the comment to be insulting, just that the next scene was going to be fantastic as in fantasy and as in cool. :( sorry for the misplaced comment.

1. Sam = 3P
2. Agility + Reaction vs. Threshold 3 to keep hold of your weapons (Sam, Ace, Katsina). Poindexter, if you're trying to keep your Alpha then this is your test to get your arm inside the RV before it gets crushed and ground into kibble.
3. Agility + Gymanstics vs. Threshold 6 to land on your feet (Sam, Ace, Katsina). Otherwise you will be prone.
4. Per p. 202, a Composure test vs. Threshold 4 (everyone but Doc). There will be a dice pool penalty to how many hits you miss the threshold by, for a number of Combat Turns equal to the same number. So if you only roll 1 hit you will have a -3 modifier for 3 combat turns.
Vehicle crashes are rare, and though they can be spectacular in many cases they do not involve a lot of damage.

Good news, bad news.
Good news: LOOK AT THIS EXPLODING 6 ZWEIBLUMEN ROLLED: [6, 6, 6, 6, 1] ARE YOU KIDDING ME THAT'S FOUR HITS FROM ONE DIE
Bad news: You didn't account for the -6 AP. I'm not going to scratch them from the end because that would nix 8 of your hits due to the exploding 6s. Please roll 6 exploding dice and subtract the results from your total. You rolled 4 to hits to spare, so you have a nice cushion to work with.
And our ride's busted. Hopefully we can grab the Bulldog without it taking too much damage. And the drone would be nice to own.
On a side note, I'm totally digging the action. But I have a question about the Fireball spell. The damage for a fireball spell is (Force)P DV -Force AP, with the net hits from the scatter test being added. Since the threshold for the scatter test is 3 and the mage rolled 3, the damage for this fireball should be either 12P -12 AP (serious overcast - he's taking 8P drain!) or 6P -6 AP (2 drain, stun if he has 6+ Magic, otherwise physical). So, are your numbers correct on that, or did you get Elemental Attack (single target) confused with Fireball when running the numbers?
4- Composure from the crash (http://orokos.com/roll/247198): 7d6t5 1 Should I play the penalty like Sam is enraged and making bad decisions since it doesn't really seem like he took much of a banging in the crash?

Our ride is busted, but we do have the ATV and a Snowmobile in the trailer. Which probably can't carry everyone for very long, but might suffice in an emergency. Assuming we can get to the trailer, that is.
I also have a question about the Fireball.
If it was Force 12 (to get 12P, -12 AP), then wouldn't it sort of explode in the middle of the car and hit multiple people? The radius would be 12 meters, more than enough to at least hit Chino, if no one else. Unless the mage somehow pinpointed it to hit only Sam. Force 6 would be much smaller (and less damage), but I would think would still hit someone else. Unless I've got the dimensions of the vehicle completely off in my head, which is completely possible.
@Tec: In case it wasn't obvious, thanks for doing all of this work. It ain't easy being green(or a GM), and as a player I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into this. I'd buy you a beer or 3 if I could.

Doc's limp form tumbles out of the couch on the left and somehow lands comfortably against the back of the dinette booth on the right.

What is Prep(4)? Is that for Combat Sense? This is a soak roll, not a dodge/defense roll, so unfortunately Combat Sense would not apply. (Also, the spell technically hasn't gone off yet since the preparation won't trigger until the same impact that Ace is soaking breaks the preparation.)
If that's what it was, please roll 4 dice and subtract the hits from Ace's total. If it's for something else that I've forgotten, please let me know.
@Tec: would Doc have any idea about the crash? I don't think anyone is letting him use their goggles/earbuds anymore, but if someone is lemme know! :)
If aware, he'd use an edge to jump to the front of the line. The last thing the team needs right now is the decker getting the upper hand on us.
Agent: Agent's Matrix Perception on hiden icon Rating(6)*2+2 for all rolls + VR 2 = 16 (http://orokos.com/roll/247852): 16d6t5 5 (#6)[/url]

You have cyber eyes, so you could watch your own video feed - presumably leaving your eyes open won't cause any issues (except to freak out observers) since they don't likely need to be kept moist like a regular eye. And you have a subvocal mic that you could listen in on. Noticing that the RV has left the road might be curious enough to you to choose to activate one or more of thee methods.
Oops, you fell into a trap. The enemy decker is on Full Matrix Defense, hoping that Doc would get overly aggressive.
Do you have my total edge spent? I think it's 3, but I might be missing something in my notes. Also, you mentioned the only stat missing now is my CHA, but I've got that, it's my base STR that I'm missing (I've got my cyber arm) unless that was noted somewhere and I missed it :(
Oops, you fell into a trap. The enemy decker is on Full Matrix Defense, hoping that Doc would get overly aggressive.
Par for the course :) I'm not so good at this!
Fire Spirit
The other materialized fire spirit (the one that's not lighting everything on fire) is using the Accident power on Ace, Chino, Katsina, Ohanzee, and Sam. This is a Magic+Willpower vs. Reaction + Intuition test, with modifiers. This was going to be a lot more interesting pre-crash, but I'm sure it will still be fun.
Accident: 2 hits (http://orokos.com/roll/247951)
Rotodrone
The rotodrone swings around the front of the RV to shoot Sam through the windshield.
Agility (AGI instead of LOG because the rigger is jumped-in) + Gunnery + Smartlink: 1 hit (http://orokos.com/roll/247883)
Windshield soaking: 3 hits (http://orokos.com/roll/247884), forgot AP but dropping last two dice wouldn't matter
@Poindexter: Sam has to dodge 1 hit. He's at +4 for Good Cover but -2 Constrained and -3 Composure and -2 for Short Burst, so -3 overall. That still leaves Sam with 6 dice to roll a hit (and not glitch).
If Sam doesn't roll any hits, the base damage is 10P + 1 net hit - 3 Windshield Soak = 8P -2AP
Avoid fire from the rotodrone (http://orokos.com/roll/248000): 6d6t5 0
yeah, a glitch! Cause why the fuck WOULDNT it be?!
soak bullet dmg (http://orokos.com/roll/248001): 24d6t5 3

so, that's 5 stun.

Par for the course :) I'm not so good at this!
Don't feel bad. So far, nearly every action I've taken in every PbP Ive ever played has been falling into some NPC's trap.
You lit that rotodrone up pretty well. He's probably gonna have a hard time dodging 8 hits on full auto.
You lit that rotodrone up pretty well. He's probably gonna have a hard time dodging 8 hits on full auto.
Yeah, now all we have to do is fight off 2 carloads full of heavily armed and magically awakened corp assassins, deckers, riggers, and their small army of spirits while leaving the bulldog intact, load our two ton cargo up into it and disappear into the mountains before their air support can get here.
OR sam can strap that bomb onto the obelisk like he should have last night without saying a word to anyone...
Accidents
A bottle of expensive hard liquor breaks and catches fire. Chino's on his back in the middle of it. Chino has to soak 3P -2AP (with armor) of fire damage, and his armor has to roll its armor rating against 3P -2AP to avoid catching fire. See p. 171.
@MalevolenceOh, good. For some reason I thought it reset each Combat Turn. Per combat phase is much more reasonable. I'm glad I was reading that wrong.
The "Defender has Defended Against Previous Attacks" counter was reset when Wolf acted. See p. 189.
Spirit astrally attacking OhanzeeWhelp, 7-5 is 2 dice, so less than a 50% chance. Here goes...
Force * 2 - Wound Modifier: 1 hit (http://orokos.com/roll/248034)
@Malevolence, please dodge 1 hit. Wound and composure modifiers apply, but not Ohanzee's physical constraints (i.e. the jammed seatbelt).
If you pull a Poindexter and can't manage a hit to dodge, then base damage is 2P + 1 for the net hit. Roll Willpower to soak (since Willpower is Body on the astral).
Projecting magicianAnd he gets a new, meaty initiative. Imma guess he's out of actions this CT. Wolf is going to let him get some alone time with a heal spell while he teaches a certain ork a lesson. Nah, just kidding. Wolf needs to make sure he doesn't try banishing. He'd probably be okay for one since he has 2 services and the mage only has about a 3 die advantage (assuming 6 magic and 6 Banishing), and probably less. But still, the way rolls have been going, I'd rather avoid the risk.
Magician stops projecting and returns to his broken body.
Sam is certain it was an assault rifle. He would bet an Ares Alpha or a Yamaha Raiden. Usually the Raiden is easy to identify because its electronic firing mechanism sounds completely different, but the buzz of the rotodrone masked the sound of the firing pin (or electronic mechanism) so Sam can't say for sure. He'll probably be able to tell once he looks at the wreckage, but he's not optimistic about the condition of the weapon.
That will conclude IP3, at which point we will roll Initiative again.
Agent goes on full matrix defense to protect the 'deck.
Doc will cut to the chase and just start smashing the persona and not bother with the marks.
Please list your deck configuration pretty much every time you make take a Matrix action.
You only rolled 2d6 for Doc.
I think Sam may be carrying the rifle Ace is looking for.

The hunter's rifle is a Springfield M1A. There's also a PJSS Model 55 shotgun available from the hunters.
Edit: The M1A has a smartlink mounted on it. The wireless functionality of the smartlink is currently OFF. If anyone is looking for the missing hunter, and if they know to look for the smartlinked rifle, then turning on wireless may alert authorities to the gun's location.
I'm still a bit confused on the whole matrix vs. meatspace geographical overlay. As you need to do a trace icon to find where it is in the meat world, but you see things moving around in AR/VR as things move in RL, so I've never gotten a good grasp on that.
Baring any other information to go on, he's just going to go after the biggest gear first as a guess for biggest threat. So if there's no other data to go on, he'll go with Device #1 a Hermes Ikon! Actions still apply, having the Agent get more info on it while he grabs a mark.
If said smartlinked rifle had wireless functionality turned on but running silent, that would make it very difficult for anyone scanning to find said rifle, correct?
That pioneer rifle Sam is carrying, does that have a sling? If not, I'm not certain how Sam is carrying it. Guess I need to figure that out before it becomes relevant.
I assume the rifle isn't troll sized, correct? What's the penalty for firing it?
The extra costs dwarfs and trolls pay mean they have equipment that fits them. When using an item not customized for their hand sizes, by contrast, dwarf and troll characters receive a –2 modifier on their dice pools for using human-sized weapons and equipment. This modifier also applies in reverse; an elf trying to use a dwarf-modified weapon suffers a –2 dice pool modifier. This effect is also cumulative, in the unlikely event it comes up, so a dwarf forced to use a troll-modified tool (or vice versa) suffers a –4 dice pool modifier (and possibly a hernia). In some cases it may be simply impossible for a dwarf or troll to use the other’s gear, like armor constructed for completely the wrong build.
8-bit don't forget Doc is essentially a combat surgeon. You can let him know you need help. We've not been particularly good about communicating. I'll try to have Doc update everyone on what's going on in the matrix next IP.
Wolf will finish off the mage, and then exit the vehicle through the most expedient route to get to the combat mage. He's also going to go Full Defense again (should have done that at the top of the round, or at the very least after the first time he got nailed).
Attack Mage [Agility 7 + Unarmed 6 - Wounds 3] (http://orokos.com/roll/248851): 10d6t5 2
Ugh, that's terrible. Hopefully the mage can't muster much of a dodge.
@rednblack Walking doesn't require an action. Ace can walk 4-5 meters, which is enough for him to get out of the RV. However, if he wants to get to the end of the RV so that he can have an angle to shoot at the Bulldog or Tata, he will have to run, which is a Free Action. Ace, being a cyborg, has enough movement to do that, but if that's the plan then there will be a -2 penalty for firing in the same IP as running. He can shoulder open the hatch on his way.
Ace is ambidextrous so he doesn't have any penalties for firing from his off-hand. From the back of the RV it's 12 meters to the front of the Bulldog and 25 meters to the front of the Tata.
Just wanted to lay that all out before confirming your action. If that sounds good and you still want to proceed, go ahead and roll 2 dice to subtract from your shot total.
Wolf can leap out the passenger-side window that Sam's grenade took out. Do you want him on Full Defense now?I had forgotten to account for it not taking effect against the Mage's Direct damage spells. Instead of heading for the mage, he's going to try to find cover from the mage somewhere where the mage is unlikely to be able to move to easily. His plan going forward is to snipe the street sam with Fear since it is LOS rather than melee range and basically try to break up the group so that they can be picked off one at a time. If he can find sufficient cover from the enemy combatants, he won't need FD, otherwise he'll try to minimize his exposure to enemy fire with an emphasis on the mage and go FD. The "top" of the RV seems like a good place that gives him cover and makes it nearly impossible for the enemy to reach him quickly.
Ace's base walking speed is 9 meters.
Does the street sam get a defense roll? I'm assuming yes, but I'm not sure how engrossed he is with the melee combat.

Per the Fire Spirit's Accident (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=18731.msg345853#msg345853) power, Sam is still prone. Also, the obelisk is currently covered by the burning remnants of its crate.
Sam would need to:
1. Stand up (Simple)
2. Pick up Object (Simple)
3. Move (two IPs of walking or one IP of running as a Free Action)
4. Address burning crate (variable)
5. Activate & Attach (two Simples / one Complex)
how many boxes left till he's down?
Not like Sam can do anything about it...
So Wolf can't make the RV in one IP?
From the back of the RV it's 12 meters to the front of the Bulldog and 25 meters to the front of the Tata.
Ace's base walking speed is 9 meters.
Ace's base walking rate is 9 meters per Combat Turn. As Ace will have two IPs, his per-IP movement rate is half of the base rate.
EDIT: Every single post that goes by makes me a little bit more sorry I didn't just blow it up while everyone was sleeping. You or Sam?

I still get the feeling that you know something we don't (IC and OOC) because of your comments even after we have determined that it would a) be small nuclear detonation level disruptive and b) it isn't the thing infecting us. It DOES hold our old memories, but we have only a 50/50 chance that destroying it will return them (it could just as easily make them lost forever, taking away any chance we have of recovering them).
Or (like the whole Raven-Ohanzee IC fiasco) have I missed something major again?
Sam's situation is similar to what Ace's was at the start of the Combat Turn. If he wants to go outside, acquire a target, and shoot, he will have to run in order to cover the necessary distance. The actions would look something like this:
Free Action(s): Drop bomb and run
Simple Action: Ready XM30
Simple Action: Fire XM30 (-2 running penalty, -2 Composure, +1 smartlink)
The more-apocalyptic scenario is Katsina's interpretation of what would happen. She could, of course, be misleading everyone else for her own ends, but her Con skill is non-existent. People are free to roll Judge Intentions if they like.
is the hotspur close enough to the bulldog that it could damage it, were it to explode?
Also, are any of the people Sam can see obviously armed, or aiming weapons at Ace?
also, if Sam were to go the other way, trying to set up a crossfire with Ace, would that be feasible and is there cover thataway?
CT 2, IP 2Free: Snap picture using cyber eyes (if allowed)Bah, Ace still has to use his free to Run. Ok, so no pics this IP. I'm assuming text/transmit short phrase is out as well.
Simple: Take Aim
Simple: 1 shot with Lancer. This time, we're going to go for the combat mage that just fried Ace. Maybe I'll get lucky as said mage's armor is 10 or less. If it's a hit, it should just be beastly for him/her to soak with just Body. *fingers crossed*
AGI (9) + Laser (6) + Take Aim (1) - Wound Modifier (1) - Running (2) = 13
Lancer v. Combat Mage's face (http://orokos.com/roll/249279): 13d6t5 4
Hitting the statistical norm. That's 7P -10AP to the Combat Mage
Lancer is at 4/10 ammo-wise.
So much for the back-up ride. Was there any particular place Sam is aiming for? Through the windshield? Underneath the chassis?
Sam drops the grenade on a dime. Having spent his free actions on running and dropping the bomb, he will have to wait until the following IP to issue the command to detonate.
Ork samurai
Oh, so THAT'S the guy who tried to blow me up with a grenade earlier! Sam is getting a Long Burst of SMG fire.
Long Burst: 3 hits (http://orokos.com/roll/249600) + 1 hit (http://orokos.com/roll/249602) from Sam being a large target = 4 hits
@Poindexter Roll your defense, +4 good cover +2 running -2 Composure -5 Full Burst, so -1 net
The rounds are explosive, so base DV is 8P -1AP.
If i dont have enough to wireless detonate, I'll just use the proximity function, cool?
dodge smg fire (http://orokos.com/roll/249669): 11d6t5 4
so, a hit, but a grazing hit?
Chino is going to try and stop being on fire now. It was kind of cool and cinematic for a bit, but now it's just painful.
The book's example is a Complex Action with a Drop Prone Free Action (so, all my bloody actions) to do a "Stop, Drop, and Roll". What would be the best way to deal with this? I'm not sure how you, as the GM, want to interpret the necessary actions to try and put out the fire.
By the way, is the floor still covered in alcohol from the broken bottle? Because that seems like a bad thing to roll into.
If i dont have enough to wireless detonate, I'll just use the proximity function, cool?
There isn't a proximity function in the core rulebook, and if they added it in a supplement then I missed it. Is there another name for what you're thinking of? Or if there is a proximity function then please give me a page reference so I can look it up.
Motion Sensor: Projectile explosives using a motion sensor or impact trigger are extremely dangerous. Once armed (after the projectile has traveled 5 meters unless the safety features are disarmed), the projectile explodes after any sudden stop or change in direction, meaning hitting the wall, floor, or target. This method uses the standard Ranged Attack rules but adds an extra step if it misses the target (no net hits on the attack roll).
After a failed attack roll, you must roll for scatter and the projectile scatters the full amount before exploding immediately. A glitch on the attack roll means the projectile does not detonate on initial impact and scatters further, double the scatter distance. A Critical Glitch means the arming mechanism misfires and the explosive detonates immediately, affecting the attacker and those around him. (Did we mention these things are extremely dangerous?)
Chino has several valid options for extinguishing the fire:
1) Standing under the stream of water that Ace created when he knocked off the kitchen sink faucet; or
2) Grabbing the fire extinguisher that Katsina was trying to use and applying it liberally to himself; or
3) Running outside and jumping in the snow.
@8-bit
A Simple Action to pick up the fire extinguisher and a Simple Action to apply it to yourself. Katsina already pulled the pin so that saves an action. It doesn't require any rolling from you; I made Katsina roll because operating it remotely via Magic Fingers was awkward. You still have a Free Action available if you want one.
is the windshield on the hotspur shattered?
The windshield itself shatters.
General rule of thumb? Better to crash the gun or the smartlink? And I'm guessing it's another complex action to see which gun is active?
I still get the feeling that you (Poindexter) know something we don't (IC and OOC) because of your comments even after we have determined that it would a) be small nuclear detonation level disruptive and b) it isn't the thing infecting us. It DOES hold our old memories, but we have only a 50/50 chance that destroying it will return them (it could just as easily make them lost forever, taking away any chance we have of recovering them).
Or (like the whole Raven-Ohanzee IC fiasco) have I missed something major again?
I'm worried that mask knows something we dont. Im worrying that she's the reason we didnt blow it up before the memory loss. I'm worried that once that bomb leaves sam's hand, thats the last he will see of it.
A gun will still fire even if it's been bricked. You could brick the samurai's smartlink to negated that bonus for all of his guns, but he could still use a laser sight if any of his weapons have those.
If a device is bricked, it stops working: batteries are drained, mechanical parts are fused or gummed up with melted internals, and so on. That said, not all devices are completely useless when bricked. A vibro- sword is still sharp, a roto-drone glides to the ground on auto-gyro, a lock stays locked. The firing pin on an assault rifle might not work, but its bayonet works just fine for stabbing smug hackers. And you can’t exactly brick a katana, ne? And don’t panic when your tricked- out combat bike gets bricked; it will ride again ... if you know a competent technician.
[...]OOC, I know that Doc is already on the Street Sam, but Ace doesn't know that[...]

Is this a houserule? If so, cool, just *really* changes tactics. If it doesn't prevent a device from functioning but only keeps it from doing matrix actions, that's a reasonable thing and I'll just concentrate purely on comms.Quote from: CRB p. 228If a device is bricked, it stops working: batteries are drained, mechanical parts are fused or gummed up with melted internals, and so on. If the Matrix Condition Monitor of a device is com- pletely filled, the device ceases functioning. This is called bricking a device. Devices that are bricked never fail non-spectacularly. Smoke, sparks, pops, bangs, siz- zles, nasty smells, and occasionally even small fires are common features of a device in the process of becom- ing a brick. If you’re using your deck in VR when it gets bricked, you are dumped from the Matrix and suffer dumpshock (see p. 229). A bricked device is damaged and useless until it is repaired (described in the next bit, Repairing Matrix Damage).Emphasis mine
The type of action this is (i.e., Free, Simple, Standard, and Complex) is the same as the type of action attempt- ed with the device, and it requires 1 mark for Free Ac- tions, 2 marks for Simple Actions, and 3 marks for Stan- dard or Complex Actions.Does that mean the agent can make a control devices check to eject the clip as a free action?
Does that mean the agent can make a control devices check to eject the clip as a free action?
Poindexter, if Sam wants to use some tactics with Ace, I'm very fine with that, and will play out my pass under Sam's direction. Just let me know.
Hmm. Maybe my message should be "we need those cars". I'm assuming doc can keep them from driving of without filing their matrix condition monitor.
The device on which this action is performed shuts down and immediately reboots. The device comes back online at the end of the following Combat Turn. The de- vice ceases electronic functions and disappears from the Matrix until its reboot time is over.
When you reboot the device your persona is on, your OS is reset to zero and all of your marks, as well as the ones others may have put on your icon, are erased. If you’re in VR when you reboot, you suffer from dump- shock (see p. 229). When you come back online, your icon can be on any grid to which you have legitimate ac- cess, or the public grid if you have no other grid access.
When you perform this action, you can choose a de- lay of any amount of time between the time the device shuts down and the time it comes back online. Anyone with physical access to the device can override this delay by hitting the power button, which starts the boot process and brings the device online at the end of the following Combat Turn.
This action only works on devices. It doesn’t work on hosts, living beings (like technomancers, although they can “reboot” themselves, p. 251), or Resonance con- structs (like sprites), and the only persona it works on is your own. If you’re the owner of the device you’re reboot- ing, you don’t have to make a test. You can’t use this ac- tion on a device that is link-locked (p. 229).
In the Bulldog, Wolf can see:
1. the driver
2. the man who was sitting behind the mage (who was shooting Wolf with a revolver)
3. the troll in the backseat
4. the ork samurai in the front seat (probably)
The ork samurai is the biggest stretch. If he were a human or smaller I'd say no, but since he's an ork (and a big one at that) I'll say yes.
Let's look at our little diagram:
*| ||[G]|* /RV/
*| ||[M]|* A /RV/ <----- A is for Ace
*| || |* /RV/
*| || |* /RV/
Wolf *| || |*[ATV] S <----- Sam (and Snowmobile / ATV / Gas Grenade)
*| || |*
*| || E |* <----- Elven female staggering toward Tata
(cliff) *| || |*
*| ||[T]|* <----- Troll on the passenger side of the Tata
*| ||[H]|*
*| || |*
Running the opposite direction from Ace would take you toward the Tata. If you want to get an angle on the Bulldog's driver you could run west/northwest (toward Wolf, or splitting the angle between Ace and Wolf) to try and shoot the driver from behind-left.
There would be a -2 modifier for running; there is no good cover this IP. This would leave Sam exposed to the troll standing at the Tata.
Next IP you could either hop the railing on the side of the road for Partial Cover, or tuck yourself against the left side of the Bulldog. The elven female is not openly carrying a weapon and does not appear to be much of a threat.
could i run NE along the side of the RV and get a shot at the driver from the other side?
You couldn't get a shot off this IP by running along the east side of the RV. The RV is 10 meters long and Sam is maybe 2-3 meters behind the RV. Sam's running rate is 9/meter per IP (18 per Combat Turn), so he couldn't cover the necessary distance to get a shot off without Sprinting, but that would be a Complex Action and wouldn't leave a Simple action to shoot.
The east side of the RV is also exposed to the troll at the Tata.
I don't think Sam would find supporting a team mate in a firefight to be "wrong" even if it aint exactly what he'd prefer to be doing at the moment.
Right now Ace is glad for the support, but it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out when/if he finds out it came from mental manipulation magic.Ohanzee's horrible at keeping secrets. He's very likely the only character that doesn't have any at the moment. It's a disadvantage he's not fond of, so he does intend to work on his ability to keep them going forward.
Doc has mearly a miniscule hint to his past, outside of that (disturbing) bit of info he's secret free at this point. That said, he's been estranged from the blue team with his shinanagins the first night and isn't trusted by the red team. *And* he's the only matrix monkey around.
So, while having no secrets, it's obvious nobody trusts him :P

But Ace has come clean. He just wasn't very impressed with the lack of secret sharing that followed, so he's a little weary of blue team as a result of that.

Yeah, Doc had nothing else to share!
Many of you have Contacts that you have not reached out to for one reason or another. If you want to figure out who you were, maybe you should talk to someone who knows. We're getting there. I think we've exhausted our contacts in Aspen, and, if not, our welcome. I think the current plan is to head to Denver (the City of Three Nations) and try our luck there, so we'll be looking into those contacts once we have half a chance to breathe.
Sam has shared what he knows with Blue Team (re: the Johnson, Mom) but not Red Team.Off the top of my head, here are the secrets being kept:
Shooting Ace with a Short Burst: 5 hits (http://orokos.com/roll/250759)
@rednblack Dodge 5, +2 running +4 Combat Sense - 2 short burst
If you don't dodge, base DV is 11P -2AP + net hits.
Ace is next. I've given rednblack the option of continuing to shoot the driver or to switch targets to the man with the assault rifle instead.

Where does "Dodge 5" come from?
I have: AGI (9) + Laser (6) + Take Aim (1) - Wound Penalty (1) - Running (2) = 13
pew pew v. driver (http://orokos.com/roll/250010): 13d6t5 5
Base Damage is 7P -10AP
Laser rifle is at 2/10 ammo-wise.
Actually, Ohanzee might have trouble with that since he can't move. So, let's save that roll for next round and have Ohanzee attempt to escape his seatbelt - what kind of roll do I need?

OOC knowledge (Ohanzee may or may not know)
Ace + Katsina: Their apartment
Katsina: Her use of Influence on at least Ohanzee prior to the amnesia
Sam: As Tec mentioned, the Johnson and Mom
Doc: I am not aware of any at this point, though an argument could be made for Ace and Katsina's earlier shenanigans at their apartment but it's more likely an oversight.
IC Knowledge
Ace + Katsina: He's about to spot the blood bags and will then wonder where they got them and why they didn't mention them before when he specifically asked about medical equipment that might indicate treatment for the unknown illness
Sam: He knows about the Johnson and Mom, and he has let slip info about it in conversations that Red team could pick up on (not intentionally - like I said, he's bad at secrets)
Doc: Again, none that I'm aware of
Stuff I don't know
All: Not sure because I don't know it. I suspect (as a player) that there have been private messages with information that each player could elect to share or not. I have shared all of mine (honest!), but I have my suspicions that others have not. I'm not calling people out - if you aren't ready to share it with the characters, then it makes it easier for us to separate IC vs. OOC knowledge if you don't share it with the players - keep doing what you're doing. I'm just saying that I see secrets everywhere, which is awesome for a presumably cooperative game. It's like a psychology experiment or game theory - we should be helping each other (showing all of our cards improves our odds of success), but even as players we are being cautious, just like our characters would likely be.
What kinda penalties am I looking at to fire past him?
What kinda rules cascade are we looking at if i wanna shoot through him?
EDIT: Also, is wolf going after him? might wolf bring him down before he gets in my way?
Yeah, I just found the post where Tec mentioned that. I think all he has is his gun. Simple to draw and Simple to shoot? Should I roll the shot?
A player can declare a Delayed
Action on any of his Initiative Passes and can continue
to delay action until a later Initiative Pass. When the
character decides to act, he replaces his normal Action
Phase for that Initiative Pass with the Delayed Action and
then acts on an Initiative Score lower than their own.
But, in order to save an APDS round, he will (Free) call off Wolf, (Simple) ask for help, (Simple) ponder the futility of it all (I honestly don't have a good idea what to do with a simple action - maybe draw his gun just in case it becomes useful later).
If Sam were to instead attack the ork using unarmed, what kinda penalties would either of them face for being surprised to see the other one so close and unexpectedly? I mean, you and I know that sam and the ork are about to come round the same corner, but sam and the ork don't, y'know?
@MalevolenceAlso on pg. 161:
I don't see anything in the rules that says you can't delay until the next IP unless you go first. I'm looking at p. 161:
With my Initiative of 4, delaying into the next IP would leave me with a -6 and thus forfeit my action.
If the character does not act before the end of the Initiative Pass, they incur the standard reduction of 10 at the end of the Initiative Pass.
What do you mean "call off Wolf"? Call off Wolf from what? From targeting the driver with Fear. He's informing Wolf that we need the vehicle as he is aware that Wolf intends to send it away. This will change Wolf's tactics slightly so he will go for a different target. I chose the Troll with the shotgun as the next most immediate threat, though with the mage not astrally perceiving, he might have also gone with de-materializing and using sneaking to get behind the m age, materialize again, and rip his guts out (over the course of a few action passes, of course).
QuoteIf the character does not act before the end of the Initiative Pass, they incur the standard reduction of 10 at the end of the Initiative Pass. With my Initiative of 4, delaying into the next IP would leave me with a -6 and thus forfeit my action.
Long story short, if you only have a single IP and want to use it during IP2 rather than IP1 then I won't have any problems with it.Can I still get my Free Action for the first IP and use that to let Wolf know that the Bulldog is tactically important to our survival, then take my IP2 Free action at the top of the pass to ask for help, then delay a Complex Action for later in IP2? Cause I'll do that if I can.

I think Doc is our best bet now for stopping the Bulldog. Any one of us can message him as a free action to let him know assuming he isn't already aware from what he can see in the matrix.
Or this :pI think Doc is our best bet now for stopping the Bulldog. Any one of us can message him as a free action to let him know assuming he isn't already aware from what he can see in the matrix.
Sam sent a message to the whole team.

Alright, reloading it is. Can Ace palm the dropped mag when he inserts the new?

Who is the "human" that Doc wants to mark?
Doc can see the icon of the Bulldog beginning to move. I'm guessing he would tell the agent to Control Device so I'll roll against that while we figure out who Doc is trying to mark.
Bulldog resist: 1 hit (http://orokos.com/roll/251747)
The agent kills the engine and the Bulldog begins to coast. It only made it about 10 meters but it is still moving while it drifts to a stop. The rest of Ace's action's will depend on what he can see while prone
Ace can't see much. He can see the Bulldog beginning to move and he can see a guy in the back hosing down the area with suppressive fire. He can see the dirt and snow in front of his face. Hiding from the 6-hit suppressive fire and reloading is likely the best use of the IP. If there's something specific you wanted to know if you could see, let me know.

Everyone else, roll Initiative
CONTROL OvERRIDE(wow, wierd cut and paste... oh well)
A device can only be controlled one way at a time. You can’t, for example, have a person manually firing a tur- ret at the same time you’re firing the same turret to get extra shots. Some control methods can be overridden by other methods, and the highest in this order controls the device. At the top of the order is rigger control, fol- lowed by remote control, then manual control, and lastly autopilot. You can override someone else’s control on a device by using a method that comes in higher on that list, so if you issue a command through a control rig, at- tempts to maneuver at the same time using a remote control or manual control will be overridden. Once a de- vice’s control is overridden, it cannot be controlled by a method equal to or lower than it in the order until the Initiative Pass after the current controller relinquishes control (voluntarily ... or not).
As the agent is going before me next CT, is there *any* chance it's smart enough to apply the breaks as it's first action?
Does that mean that while I'm Remote controlling the device, the person at the manual controls can't override that? For example, can I have the agent control device to apply the brakes and it essentially immobilizes the car?
What windows of the Bulldog are still intact? Also, how to lasers interact with windows?
Did the elf make her way to the Tata last IP?
Also, did I somehow destroy a spirit while I had no internet access? Presumably it didn't blow up on me, but I don't see any indication of it in IC. I would post some details in IC, but I'm not sure which spirit I disrupted.

So I've pissed off orokos or something... 47 dice, 8 hits... that's under half the statistical average. (Tec, you have the formulas for those odds just known or do you use a tool for that? My math isn't that great ;p)
Doc lost ANOTHER deck!I don't remember the fate of the enemy decker's deck. It was garbage, but it might work. Also, depending on how we are handling Matrix damage, his deck might still be repairable (his old deck was toast due to downloading a high-speed lead projectile). RAW in the core was that a full matrix monitor means irreparably destroyed, but Missions I believe rules that it could still be repaired. So it depends on what interpretation we are going with here.
REPAIRING MATRIX DAMAGE
If you have a device with Matrix damage, you can re- pair it with a toolkit, an hour of work, and a Hardware + Logic [Mental] test. Every hit you get can be used to either remove one box of Matrix damage or cut the time required in half; the first die spent toward time re- duces the time to half an hour, the second to 15 min- utes, and so on, to a minimum of one Combat Turn (3 seconds). Bricked or not, the device is off-line and un- usable during the repair process.
If you critically glitch on the roll to repair your device, that’s it. The device is permanently bricked. You can use it as a paperweight, an object lesson, or (if you need one) a brick. If you glitch, the device can be restored to functionality, but it becomes a bit glitchy (the gamemas- ter will tell you how at an appropriate moment).
@Tec: Where is the remaining enemy Mage in that map? I thought he was outside the Bulldog. I was thinking that backing the Bulldog over the mage would be a sound strategy.
From where Ohanzee sits (hangs, whatever), what can he see as far as the Bulldog? Can he see the driver? I'm looking on the scene with an eye for a strategic use of Control Thoughts.
Yeah, this is gonna be bad... His deck just got bricked because he didn't have time to repair it from the stupid Minuteman :P
Soak 12dv Matrix Damage (Firewall 6 + DR 4 = 10) (http://orokos.com/roll/251821): 10d6t5 4 8 damage which is 2 more than it has left.
Can the medkit aleviate the disorientation?

How close to the driver's side of the Bulldog can Ace get to this pass? This turn?
So are those of us who had devices slaved to aware that it's offline now?
If so, what sort of actions does sam need to take to get everything back and secure on his own PAN?
And those are just the ones we know about.
Yeah, all in all, a pretty productive 16 hours or so.
Also, I'm not sure of what everyone's conditions are. I think Mal has kept Ohanzee's sheet up to date with condition monitors, but I no one else has. Since healing is going to be a thing, will everyone with a biomonitor that Doc would be able to get a roll call on let me know what state they are in? :P
At least the GMC is currently stopped and the engine is off. Bought you guys probably 1 CT to get control of it?
Ace is going to fire at the elf first, then run toward the back driver's side fender of the GMC.
I had thought of that, but the launcher is currently loaded up with frags. By the time I get it loaded and fire one off, i fear we may already be full of holes. Seems like the better option to just geek the driver?
Sam does have the throwing skill; he just never tried to use it. Sam has Throwing Weapons 4.
Can launcher meant grenades be thrown like regular grenades?
-1 Moving Over Broken Ground (a slope with snow, ice, shrubs, underbrush, etc.)
Taking a single shot is fine but it does require a Free Action to change the firing mode via smartlink. This can be done simultaneously while running.
Simple: can I trade this in for another free action? If so, make the above free a switch firing modes and this trade in free will be communicating.
The device sailed in a beautiful arc, landing with a loud clink! on the floor inside the open side door of the van.
Composing and sending the mental message, he responds, <<@Team [Uncle Sam] Not enough time or ammo.>>

Hey, are you manually entering in the individual dice results in the brackets there, or is there an option to have that included in the copy pasta link Orokos generates for you?
CT 4, Action Pass 2 - Acting on Initiative 4 (If Doc does not have the Medkit)
Simple Action - Observe in Detail (aka, look for it)
Simple Action - Pick it up, if I found it (if I haven't, another Perception test)
Free Action? (If it is one) - Hand it to Doc
Doc doesn't have the medkit yet. Chino spots it and picks it up. Who knows what kind of action handing it to Doc is. Free action Drop? We'll say that Doc has it now.
Thursdays are generally quieter for me but I have some lunchtime appointments that will keep me away for a few hours. I'll push us to CT5 this afternoon or evening.
Chino's getting a little wordy for a single IP but since the action (such as it is) inside the RV is relatively contained compared to what's happening outside (i.e. they're not overlapping much), we can be liberal.
*Am I allowed to delay action until Doc accepts the medkit and can confirm he's standing without help? I know from an outside perspective, it's no problem, but it doesn't make much sense ICly to pick him up, ask him if he's alright, then immediately drop him.
Just going to take a peek outside the RV.
Which reminds me, how have the Natelys fared? That'll have to be one of the first things we check on once the fight dies down.
He's wearing a seatbelt so it's probably two IPs of action:
CT5 IP1
Simple: Open passenger-side door
Free: Enter Bulldog
Simple: Undo driver's seat belt
CT5 IP2
Simple: Open driver's side door
Simple: Push driver out
Free: Take driver's seat
The vehicle is in the process of rebooting, so there's nothing Sam can do to speed the process. It will be back online at the end of CT5.
Without getting into long physics equations about the Tata's acceleration versus Ace's running rate, which varies with hits on Sprinting tests, the advantage is actually Wolf's.Okay, Wolf will do the honors.
@Tec: You don't happen to have a handy account of which damage Ohanzee has taken is from drain and which is actually healable? I can dig through the posts, but if you had it handy it'd save me some time.
Also, Ohanzee will take 2S sometime during the first ten minutes (probably around minute 9) from the makeshift stim patch that was made using the Medkit. The original 1S is from drain and I'm assuming that it doesn't suddenly become healable as a result of using the patch, but is the additional 1S healable?
Looting ammo/consumables is a good idea. I noticed the ork had a Warhawk - I would like that ammo. I assume that while moving bodies that they will be cleaned of usable items. The owners aren't likely to come looking for them anytime soon.
Minute 1- Can I go get that bomb yet? if so, that's what im doing first
minute 2 and 3- Sam will do as instructed. What do our chances of climbing down to get that decker look like?
@tec want me to use that previous first aid (stabalize-pain med) roll for actions here, or re-roll since the situation is different?
Minute 1: First aid on those I can... I think we're going to have to break this down almost into combat rounds yes? (He's only getting one IP per CT for the most part as he's at 5 right now with his wound modifiers)
First 60 Seconds

Go ahead and keep that roll and apply it here. Full Combat Turns is too micromanage-y, and I don't want to do all the math for walking rates and everything. Let's keep it fun instead of work.
I don't want to presume that you just stack it all into the Bulldog like cords of wood and drive off like some sort of demented Shadowrunner Santa.
The Natelys have suffered grievous injuries in the crash. Without medical attention, they will die within minutes. It's up to Ace whether he wants to let nature take its course or if he wants to leave marks on the body for the authorities to find.
As for the toe, the dashboard is sideways. Thus it is tricky to set anything on it.
Restocking the cooler is a good idea but its contents scattered everywhere. Ace's lineup looks good but is more likely to take 3 minutes than 2.
Chino - astrally perceiving?
4P of his damage is from Drain and thus cannot be Healed. See this post: http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=17816.msg318259#msg318259 (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=17816.msg318259#msg318259)
@rednblack Ace piths Mr. and Mrs. Nately. He takes off Mr. Nately's slippers, lops off the toe, and stuffs it in the old man's mouth. Note to self not to cross Ace.
Doc would want to at the least try to destroy the comlinks and such if we've time. Don't want recordings of what happened if possible.
Otherwise, that list looks good to me.
/me is missing a deck at the moment.
It'll take 1+ hours to repair his.
I was thinking just puting them in a pile and lighting them on fire, or droping a troll on them or something.
(including the troll with the shock frills, and the pulpy mess of the mage that Wolf ate)Two mages.
Two mages.
What?
What's the question? Or are you just innocently calling attention to the fact that Wolf ate two mages instead of one?Yes, it was supposed to be the innocent response when everyone looks disbelievingly at the person that mentioned something disturbing. Wolf doesn't want to be shortchanged when people are regaling enthralled listeners with his thrilling exploits.
Not going to have glue/tape in it?
Okay, how much time will it take for Doc to trundle back and try to find some tape/glue?
He steps into the Bulldog and shoves a dead driver out onto the road. Sure, the seat's covered in blood, and the guy, or girl, whatever gender it used to be, is no longer recognizable, but considering what they had already gone through, this was nothing special.
Yeah, I figured on the buying time bit. The only reason I didn't just shoot him in the face for saying that is the amnesia aspect. But he probably doesn't have any real info being the driver/gunner.
FWIW, Doc is leaning towards just shooting.
He steps into the Bulldog and shoves a dead driver out onto the road. Sure, the seat's covered in blood, and the guy, or girl, whatever gender it used to be, is no longer recognizable, but considering what they had already gone through, this was nothing special.
Uncle Sam had already shoved the Bulldog driver into the road. Far from being unrecognizable, the driver is the only member of the opposition who is still conscious. He has crawled to the side of the road to get out of easy reach, although it's not very hard to notice him because he's a troll. (He's a small troll, one of the smallest you've seen, but still a troll.) He's holding something to his neck to stop the bleeding from where Uncle Sam shot him. He seems to be waiting for DocWagon. He's wearing a nice pair of sunglasses.
Once things are settled and people are healed, Ohanzee will check for a spare.
Things look bleak for the mighty troll who had taken to calling himself "Uncle Sam" a few days ago, almost as a joke.Just an FYI, it is only about 18-20 hours after waking up. It sure seems like days, but it's been less than one.
I take this seriously and just spent 5+ hours rereading all of Chapter II's IC posts.
Just an FYI, it is only about 18-20 hours after waking up. It sure seems like days, but it's been less than one.
Huh. I would have thought that was Delta. Which means the next question is who Delta was. From the order of the messages, it must be the first person Doc hit with an Attack action. Which would have been the enemy decker. I'm at a loss as to who else might have detected Matrix contact before the decker.
Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, the phrasing of the "awakened target" + the surprise at the level of opposition lead me to believe that this cell is only aware of 1 team. Either Katsina or Ohanzee was their main target.
I'm assuming there was nothing in the chatter relating to the number, or nature, of opponents -- us -- that they were engaging, so I don't know which is more likely for Ace to assume IC, but OOC, things aren't much clearer. Katsina has been trying to protect the obelisk since we got it, but it seems more likely that Ohanzee and his team were the ones orchestrating its extraction at the beginning. Things are still fuzzy there for me.
They were definitely coming after Kat since her detect enemies spell pinged them.
Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, the phrasing of the "awakened target" + the surprise at the level of opposition lead me to believe that this cell is only aware of 1 team.
If their intent had been to attack the vehicle she was in, even though they didnt know she was in there, would that still set it off?
I feel like if they had been after Katsina, they'd have come heavier.
Geez, man, how much heavier do you want? Okay, next time it'll be 8 fire spirits instead of 4.
I feel like if they had been after Katsina, they'd have come heavier.

Kat was planted before the artifact was stolen
@Poindexter: I'm leaving an opening for Sam to get treated in my IC. I'll leave it open ended so you can let Sam get treated or not. Feel free to have Doc react either way to your response. If you rebuff him again, he'll respond with something along the lines of "your loss chummer, believe it or not, I'm just here to help." If you accept, he respond with something along the lines of "good, a healthy you leads a better chance of a healthy me." :)
Bricked or not, the device is off-line and un- usable during the repair process.Repairing deck (Hardware 5 + Logic 9 = 14) (http://orokos.com/roll/255416): 14d6t5 4
Unlike other forms of damage, there is no penalty for having Matrix damage until your Matrix Condition Mon- itor is completely filled.BUT, it doesn't say anything about once it's completely filled how much you have to repair to get it functional again :(
Kat was planted before the artifact was stolen
I doubt it. Nobody on Sam's team had any contact record with her during the planning phase of this job. Everyone elses goes back for months.
Well, they knew about the artifact, so that means that they were hired by someone who knew we had it... KE probably wouldn't hire runners to come after us, that's kinda their thing... Which leaves the people we stole it from, and the people who hired us to steal it. The MO is interesting here in that there are obviously two groups comming together, which is the same as Kat/Ace/APB and Ohanzee/Sam/Chino/Doc.
I'm officially shutting up about the level of our opposition from now on.
BUT, it doesn't say anything about once it's completely filled how much you have to repair to get it functional again :(
Either, way I've repaired 2 boxes of damage. If I can use it, awesome, if I can't cool. I'll roll another repair ruoll when I know I'll have more time to devote to fixing it again :)
My wording may have been awkward, but I was saying that she was on to our plan and tasked to intercept us even before we stole the artifact (from her conversation with Daria - all OOC knowledge for us, of course).
Just make sure the GMC is running wireless off and we should be g2g.
Most jurisdictions restrict vehicle nodes from operating in hidden
mode (see p. 211, SR4) and additionally require vehicles to broadcast
their access ID, license plate, and sometimes their registration and
insurance information as well as the SIN and license data of the driver.
It's the communication from her commlink. To be fair, it was more of a one way thing with Daria directing her to find what we presume from the picture she had to be Ace. While it never explicitly states what she's supposed to coerce Ace to do, considering they ended up with us, it seems safe to assume that it had something to do with the artifact, and most likely us as well.My wording may have been awkward, but I was saying that she was on to our plan and tasked to intercept us even before we stole the artifact (from her conversation with Daria - all OOC knowledge for us, of course).OOCly, Katsina hasn't contacted Daria yet, so I don't know what conversation you are alluding to.
6. Katsina used Manipulation magic on Sam. What's up with that?
11. What's with the infestation of hard nanites in Red Team?
6- Sam is unaware of this fact, correct?
11- Chino made it sound like He and Sam were infested as well. Am i misremembering?
6) Katsina's shamanic mask would have lit her up. Sam would notice with 1 hit on a Perception test. Feel free to roll that with the -3 Composure modifier that Sam had at the time. If Sam gets a hit, then it's up to you whether he'd know spellcasting when he saw it.
I've already been playing it like he doesn't know about it for so long, can I just auto-fail this roll? I think it'd make for a better scene down the road when someone tells him about it. Maybe he noticed the mask, but assumed it was just part of the whole "battling fire spirits in close proximity" thing, eh?

1. Both of the houses are on the Local Grid. The local grid is called AspeNet and is provided by the PCC itself (since the PCC is a corporation in its own right). The Local Grid is superb, as "Pueblo is well known for its cutting edge Matrix systems, computer engineering, and even its spectacular public AR systems" (per Sixth World Almanac, p. 182). Once inside, you realize there is no Noise for targets within 1 km.
One hit is all I need.
At least in my narrative, though the flow of time isn't terribly strict for non-combat sequences.
Does Katsina know about the differences between HMHVV strains? 1 hit (http://orokos.com/roll/256215). Barely.
OOCly, Ryo created Katsina pre-Run Faster, using some 4e rules from Runner's Companion in conjunction with the critter description on p. 406 of SR5. Much of the way I've been handling her is based on earlier conversations I had with Ryo. Run Faster makes it clear that going outside fully clothed during the daytime would not work well for the Infected, even on dark and cloudy days, but since that was not our understanding when she was developed I have grandfathered her in to keep her playable and to avoid some major retconning.
"I've shared everything I know about myself. If you want information from the others, you can ask them yourself. But right now the floor belongs to Katsina. I won't compel anyone," he glances darkly at Katsina as he says 'compel', "but I strongly suggest we are as open as possible. Right now, I deem what I don't know about Katsina to be the largest risk to the team - Blue AND Red, a distinction I disdain, but one that aptly describes our origins. So far, I think I've been right; Infected and actively pursued by powerful organization seems like the sort of thing the people working with - and sleeping in proximity to - her might need to know."
"Of the information I am aware of, none has been as important for all members of the team to be aware of as this. But I'll share with you why I am concerned. From what I know, Blue Team was tasked by certain individuals to retrieve the artifact. We don't know who these individuals are, but I suspect they are weapon smugglers, and that Sam was our point of contact. There is reason to believe that Blue Team was in contact with each other leading up to the job in question, though no real information one way or the other as to whether we had worked together prior to that. The curious thing, however, is we have no indication that we were to work with anyone from Red Team. Other than waking up in the same van, there is nothing to tie us together - that I am aware of. I want to know what Red Team was up to in the days leading up to us obtaining the artifact. Were you friend or foe? Katsina believes that the Black Lodge was expecting to find her with the artifact, not just her, but her AND the artifact. Why? What information does she have that makes he think that? That seems relevant to determining what Red Team's purpose was, which in turn can help us determine who is after us - both as Red and Blue teams and as, for wont of a better designation, Purple team."
"In short, we know that Blue Team was there to steal something - almost certainly the artifact - but we don't know if Red Team was there to help us, hinder us, or just there completely by coincidence. If you two worked for the people we stole the obelisk from
Really?
After a character suffers their first box of damage,
Stun or Physical, they are considered to have frostbite
and suffer a –2 dice pool penalty to all actions performed
with their extremities.
Really?
That's why we roll.
You may wish to use Edge. In addition to the Stun damage, there is an addition effect from Cold damage. From Run & Gun, p. 149:QuoteAfter a character suffers their first box of damage,
Stun or Physical, they are considered to have frostbite
and suffer a –2 dice pool penalty to all actions performed
with their extremities.
This would affect things like repairing your deck.
However, use of Edge will be subject to the Bad Luck quality, should you choose to roll it.
Think you're only at 1S - it was a soak test, so your one hit takes 2S to 1S.I was already at 1S, so after soaking 1 of 2S, that would add to the point I had left, which puts me at a total of 2S. Though Tec pointed out the problems with frostbite, so I'm edging it. I've soaked it, but if Bad Luck kicks in, I'll glitch, so proabably end up frostbitten anyway. ;)
As we worked out, Chino has the Denver Smuggling Routes skill. Since we're on the run, again, I would think it would be a decent time to start thinking about things like "how the hell do we get away from the place where people keep trying to kill us?" May I roll the knowledge skill, so that I can maybe roll that into the IC?
Thought I already had badluck today? Have to check, but thought it was before we grabbed the Nately's. But either way, yeah, I'm gonna edge that.
Another wordy IC. I've got to work on that, but I'm terrible with conversations - normally it would be a back and forth, but that would take forever in PbP.
@all - is it just me or is the site really slow today (and yesterday, for that matter)?
There are a number of topics I want to broach IC, but I just have to wait for the right time. I intend to keep Doc busy again with research. I intend to suggest we start reaching out to contacts (once verified). I intend to look into the Atlantean Foundation for a possible buyer of the artifact, as well as DIMR (which I think was mentioned earlier, though I don't remember if it was IC or OOC). I'm just trying to interject them at logical points in the narrative.
@all - is it just me or is the site really slow today (and yesterday, for that matter)?
You find the following video on your new cyberdeck:
You look down at your arm, checking out the cyberdeck screen on your forearm and hitting a few buttons on it.
"Yeah, you see that? You see, you fucking dick biscuit? I took your shit and made it my shit. Your deck is my deck now. Fucking asshole shooting my motherfuckin' gear." You hear yourself say, before lowering your arm to look down at the table in front of you, where the broken Renraku Tsurugi sits in pieces. Hardware and Cybertechnology tools are also littered about, making it obvious that you just switched out the decks.
"Look at what you did! LOOK AT IT! Didn't even have the decency to spare the drives, trog knocker. Do you have any idea how many files I lost? My whole trid library! All my music! All my porn! If I hadn't already killed you I'd kill you again!" You turn around at this point, seeing a body on another table, a sizeable hole in the skull where an implant was torn out. You point your arm at the body palm first and you hear the massive retort of a shotgun, and the head is pulped by the blast of flechette.
"Oh well, I guess I'll have to start over. I'll just have to make this video the first entry in a new collection of my dead enemies. Peace out, sweat monkey. I'm gonna feed your corpse to the barghests in the yard. Hope you rot in hell."
The video ends. You have the disturbing realization that you may have been something of a psychopath.
Ah, yes. Those were images and such. Tecumseh, lemme know if those would just be public searches then (images and such). I'll use the first two rolls for Ohanzee, and the next three on data about what Katsina gave me, as that was the order I received the data in.
.... ID for the soldiers, which identify them as a Knight Errant security HTR squad. There's also a file with an image of a strange metallic statue or tablet or something. Just looks like a weird geometric shape to you. There are also several pictures of you, Uncle Sam, Chino and Ohanzee, which look like they were taken from security cameras.
There's also a video. When played, it shows a camera with an outside view of some structure, pointed at a wall. Then the wall explodes outwards and Chino stumbles through, looking like he just kicked the wall open like it was a door with a bad latch. Following him are yourself and Ohanzee, who is gesturing towards the crate and levitating it through. Then Uncle Sam comes out, walking backwards while firing back through the breach on full auto.
Also, guessing that I've finished my searches now. Got some more to do from what Ace sent me.
OH WAIT! Sam is still covered in blood and has nothing else to wear, huh?
OH WAIT! Sam is still covered in blood and has nothing else to wear, huh?
Everyone has ¥200 of clothing that Ace and Katsina purchased for them on their shopping trip into Aspen. (Doc spent ¥500 so he'll look fashionable, with some designer labels.) You'll look entirely normal and middle class. You can buy different footwear if you like.
@Tec - I see in the group inventory that we have two commlinks. Where are those from? I'm assuming at least one is from the hunters, but is the other from APB? I don't think we ever looked into that one.
3. I want to roll the Smuggling Routes to just put them down in AROs for the team. Should Chino die, at least they'll have his knowledge. Not sure if you want me to roll it or use my previous knowledge roll.
3. I want to roll the Smuggling Routes to just put them down in AROs for the team. Should Chino die, at least they'll have his knowledge. Not sure if you want me to roll it or use my previous knowledge roll.
This sounds like a cool IC conversation to have while Chino and Sam ditch the van.
Sam recognizes the shotgun as a PJSS model 55, and the hunting rifle as a Springfield M1A, with a smartlink mounted on it.
@8-bit
1. Rolling BTL Dealers sounds good. You're rolling for Denver, right, as opposed to Carbondale or Defiance? Go ahead and roll it.
2. You can roll Area Knowledge: Denver to know about a flophouse, but your threshold will be relatively high. Ohanzee's Shadow Community (Safehouses) knowledge skill is a better bet, if he can shed some wound modifiers.
3. You don't need to roll Smuggling Routes again. You can use your previous roll to produce AROs and routes for the team.
The only exception is the combat knife, which might be a rating 2 check, but since Ohanzee has a rating 3 SIN I'm going to say he auto-passes.Not that it matters, but it is a survival knife, not a combat knife.
Good Guy Ace. As long as he doesn't have you at gunpoint.
@Rednblack, are you offering to pick up the shared purchases (medkits, van rental) or everything (survival knives, hiking boots, etc.)?
Roger that. Lets finish this puppy off folks!
Soon as Sam gets back to the bulldog, he's gonna blow the obelisk up. ;D ;D
Ace adds a couple gallons of bleach and a 12 pack of real beer to the growing number of supplies on his cart, and heads toward the checkout line. He smiles at the clerk as he slots his credstick, and offers, "Hope your shift goes smoothly," before loading up the bags and heading to the Bulldog.
@8-bit and @Poindexter This is your opportunity to have your smuggling route discussion.
@Zweiblumen I'll get your search results up later. Big report due tomorrow so it's crunch time at work today.
Doc whistles appreciatively as he's pulling up info on Ace's SIN. From the shadows of the Matrix, he finds out that Ace puts the hurt on folks.
...
<<<@Team [Doc] Welp, our chummer Ace here definitely has a name for himself in the shadows. Seems he's a fairly effective recovery specialist for Ares. See attached file. And our shooter is another version of him, though with a bit more of a cloud of mystery around him.

"So, what, you're done with her already? You're on to the next one? Got a thing for dark-haired elves, I see. Think you got it where it counts, do you? Want to find out?" He pushes up his sleeves a bit.
His buddies chime in after looking around for witnesses.

Ork 2: "Ever make idiot wine? Find a guy moving in on your girl and STOMP 'IM."

Another camera. Chino runs onto the scene and collides with Katsina, who was running from another direction with her claymore drawn. Chino, being much larger, is hardly fazed, but Katsina is knocked to the ground and drops her sword. Chino looks unsympathetic. "Ever make idiot wine?" he shouts at her as she rolls to her back, assuming a defensive posture. "Find a gang moving in on your turf and STOMP 'EM!"

Then something else hits him. There's really no evidence that I am, either."
Ace was a corper, Kat is a vampire, and APB had a criminal SIN - though for what we don't yet know.
A corper, yes, but one who is hard to find, tough to get hold of, almost seemingly in retirement. Came out at the request, it seems, of a vampire. Not just ANY vampire though. A vampire who prefers to drink cold blood from a bag than from warm flesh, AND who worships and has a personal connection with Hecate, the goddess of light. The first thing the two of them did was look up some infamous technomancer and convince her to go with them on whatever mission they were on.
Or Ohanzee can roll two hits on a spellcasting test and then soak two drain. If I fail to drain a single point, I pass out. Again. I'm certainly willing to risk it - my odds of failing to soak that are slim, but my odds of failing to summon a force six spirit were slim, and I did it twice. Randomness is a bitch.
Consider, however, that blood is but her dietary requirement. She still needs Essence. It only drops one point per month so long as she doesn't tax her powers, but still, at some point she needs a live meal.
But, yes, they sound like the good guys. APBs rap sheet is probably her foiling some corrupt official/executive nefarious plan and paying the price for doing the Right Thing®.
Ace may or may not have worked for Ares - he may have been undercover there but working for another party. And despite what Ace says, we haven't seen any evidence that his loyalties changed prior to his amnesia. He came to Aspen looking for someone - an unknown female operative, possibly Ares but possibly for whatever third party he may have worked for. Not Katsina, since Katsina was sent to look for him, or at least someone that looked a lot like him - there may be a whole squad of Ace clones for all we know. So maybe APB, but like Ace points out IC, it doesn't really fit, but it can't necessarily be ruled out. To my knowledge, he has not shared the dossier that was attached to the message he shared with the group, so we don't have much information to go on.
We don't know how recently Katsina became a vampire. It may have happened after coming to Aspen for all we know. Likely not relevant.
Unless you all want to draw dicks on Ohanzee's face while he's passed out. Could be role playing gold...
Unless you all want to draw dicks on Ohanzee's face while he's passed out. Could be role playing gold...
Katsina has the Artisan skill. Her specialization is carving though.
Someone post something ICly or I'm going to have Ace sobbing and drinking alone while driving to Defiance.
Sam would still get a hearing check if he's not asleep yet. Actually, he would get a roll even if he were asleep, but with a negative modifier.
Those who have nanites in their system will find themselves craving beer; the more nanites, the more you want a beer. That said, the more nanites you have in your system, the less of a buzz you get. As a general reminder of nanite levels:
Doc = 10
Chino = 6
Sam/Ohanzee = 2-3
Ace = <1
Katsina = 0
Currently, only Ace can get a buzz from beer, which might be a clue as to what the nanites are doing.
Everyone please roll Perception, unless your character is asleep. Use whichever dice pool is best for your PC.
Also, please inform me what, if any, of your equipment is 1) on, 2) using wireless, and 3) running silent.
I wasn't aware we all had nanites. I thought it was just Doc who was overloading. OOC, does this happen to be the malady we assensed?

This large and robust VTOL recon drone is capable of hovering and has a sturdy frame for its light weight. It is about the size of a lawn mower when stored, and when deployed is the size of a large hang glider. Lone Star and Knight Errant have both licensed the design for urban surveillance and patrol duties.
I wasn't aware we all had nanites. I thought it was just Doc who was overloading. OOC, does this happen to be the malady we assensed?
Yes, correct. This is the "non-biological viral entity" that Chino, Ohanzee, and Katsina have all assensed. Doc has referred to them as "nanites" three times, and Katsina and Ohanzee have used the term too, so Chino likely would have made the connection ICly.
And if we can get some help with our mystery affliction, all the better.
Ohanzee's game to levitate it after an hour of rest. Having a few more points of stun to work with will do wonders for his willingness to attempt casting. But besides that, it seems worthwhile to check to see if maybe the safehouse already has a secure parking area, since leaving the van where it is would ruin the illusion of the inn being unoccupied.
While we are "locked down" are we allowed to visit the van freely? Or should we move the obelisk to one of our rooms?
Sam plans on sleeping in the van with the obelisk, so we'll have eyes on it. Fear not.
Yes, that is a good summary of the situation. During a normal game, where days are the standard unit of measurement, the length of rituals is less of a factor. But for us, counting hours and minutes, they are a major commitment.Sam plans on sleeping in the van with the obelisk, so we'll have eyes on it. Fear not.
As you wish. Sam should still come in to sign in, take a leak, and get something to eat, unless he wanted to cross his legs and eat a frozen burger patty out of the cooler.
Current time in-game is 6pm. Doc is voting to wait a couple hours. Anyone else?
There is definitely not a bathroom in the van. The vehicle with a bathroom was flipped on its side and engulfed in flames a couple hours ago.
Sam looks around and sees the cave is large enough to accommodate a couple vehicles. He wonders if it would be acceptable to urinate in the corner.
Pee in the cave? Charisma 3 + Etiquette 1 (http://orokos.com/roll/262692): 4d6t5 2 hits
Sam suspects the proprietors would be less-than-pleased if he were to relieve himself in their parking lot.
Sam has Etiquette 1.
Pee in the cave? Charisma 3 + Etiquette 1 (http://orokos.com/roll/262692): 4d6t5 2 hits
After about 20 minutes in the bathroom alone, the giant troll emerges back into the common area clean shaven, shampooed, and wearing nothing but an enormous troll-fit white terry cloth robe and a pair of matching fuzzy bath slippers. He's almost smiling as he says to whomever is present "What's the food situation like here?"
Yeah, lets head in. Mal, Doc will give you a medicine roll to up the # of dice you get for natural healing.
With the assumption that we make it to a room:
Medicine roll to help Ohanzee (Med 5 + Log 9 = 14) (http://orokos.com/roll/261413): 14d6t5 6
Booyah! 6 extra dice omae! With 15 dice to heal with, you should be doing pretty damn well after an hour of rest ;)
HotF on Datalock (Hacking 6 + Log 9 + VR 2 = 17) (http://orokos.com/roll/263646): 10#17d6t5 4 6 2 7 4 9 7 6 5 4
@8-bit and @Poindexter Go ahead and IC post what Chino and Sam are doing too. The time after dinner is 7:00-7:30. A bit early for people to go to bed, although you can if your PC is feeling drained from the day's adrenaline. You can watch the events in the library, go play in the game room, read (if your PC knows how to read), slot BTLs, seduce Kimama, etc.
Oh shit, Reagan's Alzheimer's. Maybe it's cause I'm drunk at the bar I work, maybe it's cause for me Reagan was always Ray-gun, but I have lots of guilty giggles going.
Thank ghost for uber. (And thanks, Poindexter)
what have I done to be worthy of thanks?
Drive a cab for the drunks of the south. Personally, the north counts too, as I used to love in Montana but I don't know if you've cabbied up there ;-)
Ah, that. Tip well, good sir.
Also, most cab drivers will accept weed in lieu of cash if one should find themselves in a bind.
Chino does not have other BTLs. Kimama has a full library for sale:
Dreamchips: The Data Lock (romantic), Sex & Drugs & Trogrock (you're a rocker with groupies), The Jester of King Henry VIII (comedy), The Discipleship of Mark (Biblical/historical), Bloody Monday (action/adventure)
Moodchips: The Rage of Achilles, Boundless Love, Chamberlain at Night
Personafixs: Penelope's Patience, Picard's Inner Light, Reagan's Alzheimer's
Tripchips: Penguins Unleashed, Lavender Tears and Silhouette Eyes, Molecular Haze
There hasn't been any hard evidence that Sam is a gun runner. He is an experienced shooter (Automatics, Longarms, Heavy Weapons, Gunnery), and knows a lot about guns (Firearms knowledge skill). The idea that he is/was a gun runner has been inferred from the available evidence, but never explicitly stated or confirmed.
Well, you can't say Chino didn't warn you about the chip ...
Well if you're looking for friends then the lady who cooks and cleans and eats people to live is nice.

Sure, let's just ignore the sleeping dwarf...
I'm probably more in the dark than you are - I haven't any of those things either, nor have I seen the BTL recording.
I've toyed with doing another dream sequence, but considering what we suspect now, I'd have to do something more... disturbing ... and I'm not sure I'm in the frame of mind for that, so I think I'll skip it this time. If something hits me, I'll just update my previous IC with it, so I'm ready for things to move to morning.
Hell, he doesn't even have a BTL to reference.
Hell, he doesn't even have a BTL to reference.
Doc hasn't seen the BTL?!

No one but Chino and Sam has seen it.
"Whatever the hell you are, I suppose I owe you a debt of thanks. You've given me a second chance, so for that at least, Thank you."
One of the things that we're exploring in this film, is what it is that makes us who we are. And, when you strip an individual of his identity, is there some spark, some essence there that keeps them being human, gives them some sort of identity? --Alex Proyas (writer/director/producer)
He turns to Sam and says, "I've got a favor to ask. Once we're through in here, I was hoping you could take the smartlink system off that hunter's rifle and attach it to mine. Could come in handy for what's coming next."
Plus, it was not like she was out using her mojo to frag around with anyone's minds, or anything.

Ah, the blissful ignorance.

If Doc hears this request (i.e. if he's not sleeping in), he will remember that he has Armorer 2.
Also, does Doc have the tools necissary to check on the nanite levels? I seem to recall I did something to find them previously, but can't find the post.
After the info revealed (that Blue Team might have been hired by a cult), I wonder if Ohanzee was the "handler", since these cults tend to be magic based and he seems to fit the role. So he's probably a cult member tasked with overseeing the hired psychos. The time frame for planning and executing the job is now at most about 2 months (discovery of artifact in late November at the earliest). Still a mystery as to how we ended up in the same van. I wonder if Team Ares convinced the psychos to turn with the promise of a nice big reward. A little mind magic from Katsina converts Ohanzee, at least for a little bit, and voila - Team Purple.
Lots of great speculation to be had! Don't be afraid to make it IC, if it's something your character would say. That's my intent, but I'm busy at work and don't know when I'll get to that. Spending more than a minute or two at a time is iffy at least until after lunch.
Also, does Doc have the tools necissary to check on the nanite levels? I seem to recall I did something to find them previously, but can't find the post.Sure, Doc is smart enough to figure something out.
Doc is certifiable.FTFY.
Doc is certifiable.FTFY.
Does Sam have the ability to disarm the bomb remotely?
The problem being finding a fixer that can afford 1M¥ on short notice and who is willing to take on the risk inherent in dealing with such a significant item.
A fixer big enough to deal with heavy hitters like us will be able to do a mil, i bet.
One of the big deal magical groups had better come off a mil EACH
and if we're talking about one of the big 10? I say 5 mil each.
Sam dun really give a SHIT about the money anymore though. All he wants it answers, the nanites out of him, and to be left alone.
Doc seemed very focused on risk/reward in terms of payout (not information or other intangibles) in his IC. While he was motivated to survive the encounter, he was searching for the largest possible payout even if it entailed additional risk. He was opposed to simply dumping it for a fraction of its value and washing his hands of the whole business. He wanted to get enough money up front to set up a new life rather than (safely) dumping the item for a pittance and relying on the team's skills and each other to provide security and answers going forward. While money makes setting up a new life easier, we are fully capable of starting anew without it, but that seemed an option that Doc was strongly against entertaining.
For Ohanzee, he wants to use the exchange as a way to advertise to all interested parties that they no longer have the item and any income is entirely incidental. Simply dumping it over a ravine would be an option except that people would still be coming after all of us hard to try to get the item. If we sell it to another party and make the transaction public enough that all parties know we no longer have it, they might still want to kill us, but they would have a harder time justifying ridiculous resources to it. And really, in the short term, they'd have to divert their resources to recovering it from whoever we sold it to, a likely more expensive prospect, leaving them with little to throw at us for a short while, giving us some breathing room to vanish and start anew. As Tec continually states, the less we ask, the less likely their cost/benefit calculation shifts toward geek the runners and steal the item. Giving it away isn't off the table, but it is likely that we won't be taken seriously unless we ask for something. A million seemed like a nice starting bid, but if some neutral fixer is willing to throw 100 grand our way for it, no questions asked, Ohanzee would consider it if he felt those pursuing them would turn their attention to negotiating with the fixer and leave them alone for a bit.Doc would be happy to sell it to a fixer for ¥100k if a. you could find a fixer with that kind of cash, and b. it would get people to stop shooting at them. Neither of which does he think are likely to happen.
Hell, dropping it in a pit and just putting an ARO with the location in downtown Denver and letting everyone throw their resources into getting there first in force to claim it sounds pretty appealing to him. Everyone would throw every resource they had into beating the others to the artifact so that Team Purple could have a reprieve long enough to escape, and anyone bent on revenge would likely be bloodied enough from the effort that they would be able to pursue them less effectively for a bit. The major downsides to this are that a) dozens, if not hundreds, of people would likely die in the mad rush, and b) the artifact would be at risk for catching a stray bullet (or worse), risking its destruction and ensuing chaos. So we are back to plan A - public bid, private exchange.Yeah, I don't see a situation where we can even reasonably guess at what "all of their resources" are to the point of estimating our chances of survival.
It sounded from Doc's words that unless there was a significant payout from the artifact's sale, Doc wasn't interested, eliminating a large swath of options (some outlined above). He really wanted the middle ground of DIMR, which is why he brought it up so many times. That what he thought was the safest solution that would get the best results. Artifact would end up in "good" hands, they would have the resources to help out with the amnesia and nanites potentially, and enough money to help us disappear if not actually clear our names. The big downside is that Ace wants to go back to Ares... and that would leave him in a bad spot. There are tradeoffs for everything.
"My cover ID was a bank in Denver, so that may be worth a shot, but we're going to need a location with outside the safehouse to reach out from, and we need a plan there."
Is there anything your PCs were planning on doing between now and check-out time later today? If so, we can start to figure that out and do any rolling that's needed. If not, we can get ready to fast-forward once we're done at breakfast.
Probably don't need it, but Doc can help with that... He'll have 11 dice to try and add to your pool if you want.

WHOA! That's WAY better than what Sam's got. Maybe Sam should be helping doc do this mod instead of the other way around, huh?
All healed. I think that I would normally get six more dice for the medkit, or would Doc have taken that (he didn't in his roll)? It's irrelevant for this, but I'm curious as to where it gets rolled usually.

I think folks are pretty frustrated with the site performance. I've seen two games basically stop because of it :(
Does Doc think that the Auto-doc delivery will work, and if so does he need to do anything but put the requistion/prescription(s) in the system?
Medical Procedure Knowledge Check (Log 9 + MP 4 = 13) (http://orokos.com/roll/274290): 13d6t5 5
Gonna start the hacking rolls now, and will post IC with the result of the knowledge check.
Deck Configuration:
A: 4 S: 7 (8 ) D: 5 (6) F: 6
Agent; Toolbox; Exploit; Stealth
HotF Hospital Host (Log 9 + Hack 6 + VR 2 = 17) (http://orokos.com/roll/274291): 17d6t5 6
Forgot 2 dice for Exploit:
forgot 2 dice (http://orokos.com/roll/274292): 2d6t5 1
Limit is 8, 7 hits. There's a big pool to defend, but I'm just going for one mark here.
If I get my mark, I'll enter the host, then time for some MP checks.
Note, I'm not running silent. He's going in looking like a legit user (with a valid mark and everything!). Just looking through files like he's supposed to be there ;) Dunno if you want a matrix search, or a matrix perception (both could apply IMHO), so here's both ;P
Looking for Files MS (Log 9 + Comp 5 + VR 2 = 16) (http://orokos.com/roll/274294): 16d6t5 1 (that didn't work)
Here's 5 more of the search:
Looking for Files MS (Log 9 + Comp 5 + VR 2 = 16) (http://orokos.com/roll/274296): 5#16d6t5 4 4 2 2 2
Looking for Files MP (Log 9 + Comp 5 + Spec 2 + VR 2 = 18) (http://orokos.com/roll/274298): 6#18d6t5 7 7 5 2 4 6
Limit is 6 for all of those.
Once I find the file(s) can I do a Spoof Command to unlock it? Requiers the same number of marks, but is a sleaze action instead of an attack one.
Spoof Command (Int 4 + Hack 6 + Ganglia 1 + VR 2 = 13) (http://orokos.com/roll/274302): 13d6t5 4
Edge to re-roll misses:
re-roll misses 9 (http://orokos.com/roll/274304): 9d6t5 3
Limit 8, 7 hits
Here's hoping that worked!
If you succeed with an Attack action, your target becomes aware that it is under attack by another icon, but it doesn’t automatically spot you.
- The marks on an icon, but not their owners.
Maybe just drop the bags into the biohazard waste receptacle a few minutes before a collection? Unless they scan RFIDs on outgoing waste...
Rifle is an interesting situation. It's more like a community clinic that happens to have a Level IV trauma center attached. Most of what the clinic does is outpatient work, so it only has 25 beds. But they have a helicopter landing pad and doctors, nurses, and shamans staffed around-the-clock. Security-wise, it's a smaller clinic than Defiance, so there are fewer security personnel and only one spirit on patrol instead of two. The town is slightly smaller (population 9,200) than Defiance. There is quite a bit of ranching in the area. Local residents are known for their habits of carrying rifles and/or large handguns with them at all times to deal with poachers, predators, and other varmits, so mind the locals.
Hopefully, 8-bit will return soon. I know he'll still be welcome at the "table" that I'm GMing. More than anything, I hope that he's ok.
@Zweiblumen: Survival is linked to Willpower, not Intuition. However, Doc's Willpower is the same rating as his Intuition+Ganglia, so the end result is the same.Opps! #allswellthatendswell
Doc does not have to act erratically. As I stated earlier, Chino does not have to continue acting erratically either. Feel free to do so if you think it makes for interesting RP, or just keep doing what you're doing.
OOCly, one of the possibilites of CFD is that you can have multiple strains of nanites fighting for control. Eventually, one strain wins out and the personality is more established with less variability. Perhaps Chino is still in the "nanites battling for control" stage while Doc has progressed beyond that and is in his final form. Or not. It's up to you, as I didn't want to put myself in a position where I was bossing people around about their RP.
Doc keeps an eye on Chino as well.
Medicine Roll for CFD (Med 5 + Log 9 = 14) (http://orokos.com/roll/281382): 14d6t5 7
@Poindexter, let me know if you had a rough plan or outline of what you wanted to do on patrol. Go ahead and make any rolls you feel are appropriate and I'll tell you what's what.
Small Unit Tactics would be the closest. Survival would be not freezing to death while you're out. Navigation would not be getting lost while you're out, but I don't see a need for that here.
Ace's Security Design knowledge skill would be relevant as well. Let's have it be a teamwork test with Ace in the lead and Sam providing extra dice with hits from Small Unit Tactics.
If Rednblack sees this first, go ahead and roll 9 dice (your base skill) plus 6 dice (the maximum number of hits from Sam's roll) and we'll subtract dice off the end based on how many hits Poindexter rolls.
Still traveling for work. I'll be in meetings for a couple hours then flying home. I should get an IC post up over the weekend.

Alternatively, Sam could pay 1 point of Edge to use the Sixth Sense ability to buy himself a defense test. Of course, 7 hits is a tall mountain to climb, especially when your base defense pool is 9, but every little bit helps. Sam would still be able to spend Edge on the defense test itself (i.e. it wouldn't be a case of spending Edge twice on the same test).
Perception is one of my least favorite things to figure out, given the various senses and the modifiers that each of them have individually. Presumably taste doesn't apply here but theoretically the rest of them do.
You didn't take the +2 large target bonus, which for simplicity's sake I will say offsets any negative modifier from not having a good bead on the target.
And don't ugh over 4 hits; that's the expected roll for your dicepool.
Dodging kick to the knee: 1 hit (http://orokos.com/roll/285540), that's a legitimate ugh
Base damage is 11P, staged up to 14P with net hits.
Soaking: 5 hits (http://orokos.com/roll/285541), CRUNCH
Net damage is 9P, which probably implies some broken bones and lacerated arteries.
Poindexter, go ahead and IC post it. I'm behind at work so I'll tackle the next actions later today.
Next
IC posts for Sam and Ohanzee
Everyone roll your initiative for CT2. Go ahead and post your intentions plus your rolls too, as I'm doubting that they'll beat you on initiative.
OOC, I'm playing this like Ace has no idea what he's up against. If we're playing it that bandersnatches regenerate, and some other chars know that, they should let Ace know. Otherwise, once they go down, he's just going to move on to the next one.
@Poindexter, you get to dodge 6 hits. Having already spent edge for a defense roll against this attacker, I'll say that you can roll defense as normal (without having to spend more Edge).
The ARO is not being auto-updated; Ohanzee has to update it manually, since the position of the ARO is based on something (Ohanzee's astral sight) that his equipment can't reference.
Ace can see Sam defending against #2 and blocking a blow aimed at his face, so he has a pretty good idea where #2 is. He still can't see him, but we'll call it a -2 penalty instead of -6 for Blind Fire.
I was in a rush to do the action sequence while Zweiblumen was out of town, so I inadvertently cut off the big reveal about the burner commlinks that Sam has been leaving behind. Credit goes to rednblack for having Ace refresh the topic.

I quite enjoyed the big reveal and then having to leave it hanging, being dropped right into danger. I feel like that's the way a movie would have done it. It was cool.
Sam dun wanna save one exactly. He just dun wanna hurry it along the path. He'd like to see if anything interesting happens before then, y'know?
Maybe the others will come back or something. Who knows?
He was also curious as to how the nanites would respond to such a malady infringing on their turf. Though he wouldn't have wished this on any of his friends, it did present an opportunity to see if the nanites provided them any resistance to infections or toxins (other than alcohol). They seemed to get along with Kat's Infection well enough, but HMHVV was as much (or more) magic as it was disease and so might escape the ability of the little machines to detect.
Just to be clear, Katsina does not have any nanites in her system. She is the only one completely free of them. (Ace's levels are extremely low, but not 0.) It's possible that Ohanzee has observed nanites attempting to infect Katsina, only to have her Regeneration overwhelm them easily.
Two extra hits coming from exploding 6s, a little below average and didn't beat my limit, but it's 9 extra dice for Sam if Poindexter wants 'em!

So we healed you're damage to start. And you've at least 3 points of edge left, so you could definitely post-roll edge those rolls and likely not only survive but not be infected. Again, if you want to play an infected that's cool, just sayin' that it's RARE that someone can beat it and if you did that would be a story to tell Sam's grandkids!
Dual-Natured: Sam can now see the Astral, although it probably confuses the shit out of him. He can learn Assensing.
Dual-Natured: Sam can now see the Astral, although it probably confuses the shit out of him. He can learn Assensing.
Does this mean he can't NOT astrally perceive? And if he can't turn it off, does he just get the -2 on physical actions for being distracted forever now? If so, that's -3 on all Sam's combat pools, including the lost agility.
Doc can do little at this point other than keep Sam warm and hydrated. He keeps watch until fatigue overtakes him, then joins Ace and turns in.Damn, I was in the middle of writing my post when Tec put that in. Want me to change mine?
Question: Does anyone know if having a Magic attribute automatically implies that you are an adept, magician, or mystic adept? Is it possible for a sapient critter to be Awakened (and not burned out, i.e. Magic 1+) but not be one of the above? I don't know if Sam is automatically one of those simply because he has a point of Magic now. He could be a magician with no spells and no skills, but I didn't know if it was automatic. I'm inclined to think that it is but I figured I'd bounce it off the other GMs and lawyers. From Run Faster p 141:
The Infected are, by definition, Awakened and have a Magic Rating, though not all are necessarily magicians or adepts. Most of their powers are magical in nature. Should their Magic Rating ever be reduced to 0, either temporarily or permanently, they lose the use of any of their powers except for Armor, any Enhanced Senses, and Natural Weapons. So I'd say no, he just has a Magic attribute to use for determining things like the strength of his Corrosive Secretions and Magical Guard. I would rule that it would allow him to purchase the Magician, Adept, or Mystical Adept quality post chargen - something that is normally not allowed to my knowledge. So, if he wants to become a PhysAd he could do so with 40 karma, or just 20 if we choose not to double the point cost of those qualities post chargen.
