Title: Maps for use in campaigns
Post by: cantrip on <06-28-19/1405:45>
Any chance that Catalyst will ever consolidate all of the maps from various adventures and make them available in some form that is compatible for online use or printing out? I'd slot some serious Nuyen for a consolidated SR map product...

They had products like that back in 1e.

Surely if they made money they'd have been repeated since then.

Still, the pdf revolution has happened since then, so maybe it could work in an electronic format.

I can see a one and done even for a success. There are only so many maps people will find valuable. Does remind me I need to dig up sprawl sites. A lot of online maps while more realistic in scope are unwieldy for things like hospitals etc.

Check out SR1 Sprawl Sites (1989), SR4 Sprawl Sites: North America (2012), SR4 Sprawl Sites: High Society and Low Life (2013).

There are also a number of modern maps/tiles available on DTRPG, for example:

Speaking of Shadowplans, once I actually paint some of my 80+ miniatures I intend to print out the Mall at 200 DPI (about 1 inch a square) on a rollable banner. ;D But I never do make time for the painting.

But there's a big difference between Shadowplans and the kind of maps CGL tosses in adventures and whatnot.

What miniatures do you use for Shadowrun? I was looking around, but there don't seem to be any available.

Wait, are those the original miniatures? I had heard they made some back in the early days for Shadowrun, but I was under the impression they weren't being made anymore?  ???

Probably old stock. I found a photo of painted Halloweeners on Google that were like two decades old while I bought the same set two years ago.

There are a lot of decent sci-fi/near future minis out there (Infinity is probably the best "line"), but not much in the way of true SR minis. Interested to see how the new release goes for CGL in August. I'm hoping that there will be enough interest to spark KS (like they're doing for BT).

Yeah right now the ones I bought are the only official ones so only ones I'm allowed to use at Open Events.

I’m more interested in generic SR minis not prime runners. Like knight errant guard, ganger, mercenary, wage mage, shaman etc.

It’s like in d&d they keep releasing packs of special monsters and I’m like cool but I need 20 orcs. The players can custom make theirs if they want to drop money on it. Can’t remember off hand the place that prints them out.

Hero Forge (https://www.heroforge.com/)? I do like HF in that you can purchase the digital file and if you have a friend with a 3D printer (I do, and he charges a 20-oz bottle of soda to print it), you can print it out however many times you want.

Cost of the digital file is $10, and my friend says the cost of the materials is pennies.

Yeah. Hero forge. Made some cool ones
For a d&d game I was in. My players have made some great ones for our games.

I didn’t know you could buy the file. That’s pretty cool. If I had access to a 3D printer that might be a great way to get piles of generic minis. Spend $10 for orc file, skeleton file etc. not sure if they have options for all Humanoid builds like Skelton but they have a pretty big range.

The metal miniatures had plenty of generic ones and that made them extra nice. I got corp guards, swat, cops, different enemy types, and after $250 shipping was free so all I paid was import fees and adminstrative fees from the customs.

I’m not sure about it’s general availability...though you should be able to get direct from developer. They also did a second one via KS...think they are in the process of fulfillment. Hopefully it will hit retail as well.

Also looks really pricey?
And in truth the minis don't look any higher quality then the IWM ones.
Looks like you are paying for a lot of game components that you will not use.

Iron Wind Metals
Corporate Security Guards (5)
$9.71

RAID44 police Team (5)
€34.75 or $39.45

Iron Wind Metals
Cyber Assassin
$3.19

Johnny 'The Machine' Maino
€8.95 or $10.16

Definitely see a difference between the two. Yes, HINT is more expensive, due to paying shipping from the UK, and I have to admit I'm biased against Ironwind since they haven't produced anything new for Shadowrun in about a decade and are focused more on BattleTech.
Title: Re: Maps for use in campaigns
Post by: tenchi2a on <07-01-19/0211:16>
Just to be clear the HINT prices had no shipping includes and where in euros not dollars.
So the cost difference had nothing to do with that.
I used and online currency converter to get the numbers.

Also, I was in no way trying to say that these sets/minis were directly related, only that they had the same number of minis to show the cost per mini differences.

While I understand that you may have a biased against Ironwind due to them not making any new minis for awhile. that to me is more CGL issues then Ironwind's, so I can't hold it against them. You have to first ask if Ironwind has the right to create new Shadowrun minis or only the right to produce and sell already existing one?
And then there is the question if the Shadowrun mini market has any teeth, or if they have such a small turnover that producing new molds is cost prohibitive.

I used and online currency converter to get the numbers.

One thing to bear in mind is that for Euros there is automatically a VAT (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value-added_tax) (Value Added Tax) added that skews price comparisons from different locations.  If my memory serves, it is 15%?  That can throw off any price comparisons.

I am pretty sure with their last KS, they gave on here option to get resin versions of the minis...significantly improving the quality and detail. They being said, I wasn’t able to participate at the time, so missed out.

here's a repost of my collected info on srun miniatures:

Shadowrun Suitable Miniatures

TL:DR almost all the original Srun miniatures are still being made by other smaller companies that picked up the molds over the years. There are also many other smaller shops that sell suitable minis.

These are all of my Shadowrun miniatures going back to 1990 now with added street furniture and "terrain": https://www.dropbox.com/s/0bgjls55ogyw0lb/miniatures.jpeg?dl=0

And the battlefoam case with custom foam inserts: https://www.dropbox.com/s/h8jvpn3hw3zdnni/pack432.jpeg?dl=0

The vehicles and terrain mostly come from Antenocitis Workshop but some are custom 3D printed on my Form2 SLA printer: https://www.antenocitisworkshop.com

Below is my list that consolidates all the many sources for Shadowrun suitable miniatures including the originals from the 90's that are mostly still in production (this is where most of mine came from).

Iron Wind makes most of the "vintage" ones (and these make up the bulk of my collection): http://ironwindmetals.com/store/index.php?cPath=15

Infinity is a great tactical miniatures game that has some awesome shadowrun suitable minis, their motorcycle riders and drones are freaking awesome: https://www.infinitythegame.com

I've got some of these and they are awesomely punkirrific: https://em4miniatures.com/index.php/miniatures/metal-figures.html?p=15

Merliton in italy must own the same rights to some of EM4's but they also have some nice motorcycle folks: http://www.mirliton.it/index.php?cName=future-warrior-28-mm

hasslefree makes some excellent modern ones, I love their sculpts: http://www.hfminis.co.uk

these guys make some nice dwarf types: https://cpmodels.co.uk/product-category/28mm-ranges/28mm-sci-fi/runts-space-dwarfs/

caine the cybertroll: https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/trol/a-z/50287

trenchcoat warriors with style: http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_14&products_id=287

good gangers and corporate types: http://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/range.php?range=FW

these guys make some ok ones: http://www.aberrantgames.com/darktomorrow.html

good drones from anvil industries (I have a few of their tracked drones): http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk

best drones around are the Ground Zero Games drones from their 15mm stargunt line (work's great for the smaller drones in srun, I have a few of their awesome spider drones): http://www.shop.groundzerogames.co.uk/index.php?_a=category&cat_id=79

I also ran my main PC via heroforge in a few different poses/ kit-outs and on a motorcycle, he turned out pretty good.

also this boardgame (they contributed the large spider drones and rotodrones to my collection): https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1803723298/human-interface-nakamura-tower

When ordering miniatures (or anything else) from a European store and shipping to a North American address, is there any kind of import tax imposed, or other unusual fees?

Everyone encounters them, most of the time it's added into the price you're paying when you order the item. You cannot avoid paying for items to clear customs into or out of a country.

Ah... just clarified with my SO who sends and receives stuff from EU, Import taxes and such only hit when coming into the US when it's over $600 or so. (I was going off her shipping TO the EU, which has a much lower threshold for Imports).

The 'Value Added Tax' always sounded to me like the politicians were saying, "We're going to say that this is worth more than it is, just so that we can charge you more tax for it!"

Thanks for the suggestions!  :)
I have some of them - and they do work, we use Roll20 quite a bit so I was looking for low effort maps that could be quickly pulled in for various scenarios. There are some tiles I've picked up from the Market, but I'd still buy a digital resource put out by catalyst for maps from various runs over the years.  ;)
Scanning or taking screenshots is doable, just time consuming.

I have some of the Iron Wind Metals minis - they are dated, but still nice - the deckers for example look they came out of the 80s promo video!  ;D

I really the like the Black Ic (http://ironwindmetals.com/store/popup_image.php?pID=1636&type=jpg) minis they have! I have several sets I need to paint up...for nefarious GM use...

I bought a whole bunch two years ago but still haven't gotten around to painting any. Got the IC.
