Title: Forum appearance weirdness
Post by: JM_Hardy on <07-18-11/1349:08>
You may notice some weirdness about the appearance of the forums today. An upgrade to the software is causing odd behavior in the main theme. We'll be working on it, and we apologize for any inconvenience this might cause!

Related to this upgrade is a peculiar problem: you'll note your text box for any new posts is going on forever to the right. No more word wrap.
The solution to this issue is to clear your cache, then reload the page. This should clear that problem right up.

If you're noticing any other issues, please report them here. But please only after clearing your cache and reloading the page, as it might resolve other problems as well.

Some comments within threads seem to be randomly indented to the right.  Comments appear on top of other comments (making the text of both comments all but unreadable).

Edit: Active page within a thread seems to be set to render as black text on a slate background, a horrible color combination, causes halification and is altogether difficult to read.

Remove, quote, and modify no longer render in a line or column.  They appear to be left justified which causes the first two options to appear next to the username and the third to appear at the far left, beneath the username.

It appears to have to do with the "basics" of the forum layout, since different themes are affected the same way.

Although using the "Core" theme seems to look the best at this time.

My brain hurts worse than usual right now...  I blame the forums.

Forum scapegoating? ...that's low :P

Right now, it looks like the only theme that didn't get borked in the update is the default "Curve" theme. I'm working on updating the FastJack theme and will hopefully have something by this weekend.

Good. I don't like having Shadowrun and BattleTech looking like the same forum. ;)

Borked.... is that a technical term?  :P

Yes.  It's official designation means:  "The item is broken so badly that the English Language has taken damage."

It was referred to in my Tech Support job for the network providing people with Internet services all the time.  Once, it was borked by Minivan.

Borked (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=borked):

To have broken something so entirely, you break the words used to describe the item.

Update: The JackPoint theme is working better than the former default, so I'm going to be switching things over.

Much better and much appreciated.

The quick reply box still extends out to forever ("My God, it's full of stars!"), and I'm looking into a fix for it, but it's kinda late right now. See what I can do tomorrow.

[Edit:] And, Bull, I'll see if I can't put together an Ork Underground theme this weekend that isn't "Pansy-ass Elven Green". ;)

So the green will be the same color as orc snot....got it.

The text is much easier to read now, though I'm finding it really hard to discern between the icon colours since they're all small, similar shades (light green, light grey, and teal?) and on that light grey background.

Switched to Jackpoint look much better now.

Anyway to increase font size?  Might just be my resolution but font or default resolution could stand to be just little bigger.  Have it at 140% in Chrome and looks good.

Why not just make it a black background with green text?  :P

and shrink it to a 4:3 13" image too.

We would need blinking animated icons.

And maybe some dancing babies.

God no, don't do anything to shrink anything...

I can't be the only person who likes to kick back and relax 14 feet from their monitor when they Internet, can I?  Antiquated px and em configurations on websites should be criminalized for their lack of forward thinking.  20 years from now only slaves will sit hunched over a desk staring at images on a plane just a dozen inches or so from their faces.  Shoot, only slaves do that now.

So, FastJack, going to try and get a "Quote Of The Day" going, or is this like Shadowland where we only have the one quote to greet us?

"I have taken all knowledge to be my province." - Francis Bacon.  ;)

I'm looking into that. ;)

Note that for those who prefer a darker-hued theme, the Ork Underground theme is now available and should work fine. Check it out if you're interested!

By the elder gods but this is an ugly theme . . but it does take care of the indented postings . .
/me wants sinful silver to be fixed damn it! <.<

And the reload of the JackPoint theme corrected the "Infinite" Quick Reply box issue.

Hmm... let me see if I can tweak the Sinful Silver theme (and maybe customize it a bit for the Shadows). No promises, though, since GenCon is next week and my weekend might be filled up with trying to kill the cold that started bugging me yesterday.

Not sure if this particular problem has been reported/addressed yet, and I'm not even sure how to describe the 'weirdness' of the looks for me now. So I'll just post a screenshot:

Any insight?

I'm not sure if this has been reported or not, but saw other issues about layout in this thread, so thought I'd add my 2 bits. As you can see in the attached image, the layout for the user information that is on the left isn't always large enough so the next post in the thread is caused to be over to the right relative to the previous post.
I'm guessing from looking at this that the block that holds the user information needs to have a minimum size that is set by the amount of information present (name, role, forum rank, avatar, etc...).
This is with Firefox 8 on WinXP.

Unfortunately, that's a theme that I don't have access to update. The default JackPoint theme should be working correctly, though.
